Quarter tones
b lowers the note a quarter tone, # raises the note a quarter tone, # raises the note three-quarters of a tone.
Air
Air sound only, no pitch. (on trombone and bassoon)
Play on bridge
Play directly on the bridge, no pitch. (on contrabass)
Individual tempo
In these sections, repeat the bar as many times as shown, each time slower than before (the more repetitions, the slower it should get).
Each musician plays in their own tempo, not following each other.
After the repetitions hold the fermata note until everyone is on the fermata – then continue together.
A note on breaths in section G (for the trombone): Take breaths when necessary, but always before a piano note.
