Directions is written as a companion piece to Movements, which was premiered by the Odense Symphony Orchestra in 2023. Directions is a further development of the basic ideas behind the piece, but this time aimed at amateur and/or children’s orchestras.
Special techniques in the 2nd movement
In the woodwinds, there are notes notated with square noteheads and the text “air”. These are to be played purely with air, no tone.
In the brass there are notes notated with cross-noteheads and the text “hand on the instrument”. Lightly strike the bell of the instrument for a percussive noise sound.
In the strings, col legno is notated with cross-noteheads. The focus here is on the wooden sound from the bow, the pitch is not that important (i.e. different sounding overtones are perfectly fine).

Retninger er skrevet som et ledsagerstykke til Bevægelser, som blev uropført af Odense Symfoniorkester i 2023.
Retninger er en videreudvikling af de grundlæggende idéer bag stykket, men denne gang målrettet amatør- og/eller børneorkester.
Særlige teknikker i 2. sats
I træblæserne er der noder noteret med kvadratiske nodehoveder og teksten “luft”. Disse spilles med ren luft, ingen tone.
I messingblæserne er der noder noteret med kryds-hoveder og teksten “hånd på instrumentet”. Slå let på schallstykket af instrumentet for en percussiv støjlyd.
I strygerne er col legno noteret med kryds-hoveder. Fokus er her på træ-lyden fra buen, tonen er ikke så vigtig (dvs. forskellige klingende overtoner er helt ok).
