Jeppe Ernst Suite A (2024) for solo violin

INTRODUCTION

Suite A is a piece for solo violin, the first in a cycle consisting of three pieces all with the overall title ‘Suite’. All three pieces are composed using the same overall form and same stepwise melodic structure.

General Instructions

The violinist stands with their back to the audience throughout the piece. At the end of each phrase the violinist is to ‘freeze’ the bow in a specific position. The piece is to be memorized.

Interludes

In the interludes between the five movements the musician takes down their instrument and faces downwards. The notated dotted arrow indicates the gradual movement from the playing position to the resting position and vice versa.
