Leif Kayser (1919–2001) var en af Danmarks mest produktive komponister af især orgel- og kirkemusik. Han udgav og forhandlede selv de fleste af sine værker i sirligt kalligraferede udgaver, som han lod trykke hos Atelier Elektra. Efter hans død har det været vanskeligt at erhverve hans noder; mange har desuden været udsolgt. Endelig har enkelte værker fra Kaysers sene år kun foreligget som fotokopier. En kreds af organister tog derfor i 2016 initiativ til en genudgivelse af Kaysers orgelmusik. Vi er meget taknemmelige for den store imødekommenhed vi har oplevet, fra Leif Kaysers arvinger, Edition·S, Det Kongelige Bibliotek, og mange andre som har kunnet bidrage.

I videst muligt omfang er Kaysers egne udgivelser og trykforlæg benyttet til facsimileudgaver.

Originalformaterne er blevet tilpasset det lidt større B4-format, hvorved læseligheden er blevet forøget.

Hvor Kayser har anvendt C-nøgle, er værkerne blevet skrevet om i udgaver med almindelige nøgler. Notationen i renskrifterne følger LKs forlæg tættest muligt, således også de særlige korte bindebuer. Enkelte steder kan hjælpefortegn uden for systemerne dog være sat foran den pågældende node i stedet. Pedalet har overvejende fået sit eget system, hvor Kayser af pladshensyn ofte har noteret det i venstrehåndssystemet.

Originaludgaverne kan ses på Edition·S’ hjemmeside. I facsimileudgaverne er biblioteksstempler og katalognumre retoucheret bort efter aftale med Det Kongelige Bibliotek.

Leif Kayser (1919–2001) was one of Denmark’s most productive composers, especially of organ and church music. He personally published and sold most of his works in elegantly calligraphed editions which he had printed at Atelier Elektra. It has been difficult to procure his music after his death; much of it is also sold out. Furthermore, individual works from Kayser’s later years have only existed as photocopies. In 2016, a group of organists therefore took the initiative for a new edition of Kayser’s organ music. We are extremely grateful for the great cooperativeness shown us by Leif Kayser’s heirs, Edition·S, The Royal Danish Library – and many others who have been able to contribute.

To the greatest extent possible, Kayser’s own publications and printing sources have been used to make facsimile editions. The original formats have been adapted to the slightly larger B4 format, which enhances the readability of the music.

Where Kayser has used the C-clef, the works have been rewritten using common clefs in the new editions. Notation in the fair copies follows LK’s originals as closely as possible; this also applies to the special short ties. At certain points, however, courtesy accidentals outside the staves have been inserted instead before the affected note. In general, the pedal has been given its own stave, while Kayser, for reasons of space, has often notated it in the left-hand stave.

The original editions can be accessed on the Edition·S website. In the facsimile editions, the library copies and catalogue numbers have been removed, as agreed with The Royal Library.

For editorial reasons, the original page numbers have also been removed.
