This series of pedagogical pieces was composed following the initiative of Geir Draugsvoll, accordionist and professor at the Royal Danish Academy of Music, who invited me to take part in a joint FOKU project. FOKU stands for Research, Artistic Practice, and Development Activities, with support from the Royal Danish Academy of Music and the Danish Ministry of Culture. The pieces are a continuation of Educate·S, a series of pedagogical pieces for children and young people published by Edition·S. However, these first four études – Livre 1 – are intended for an advanced level, relevant for students immediately before entering the conservatory or in the early stages of their studies, for example. They will be followed by Livre 2 with four easier études at an intermediate level. As a part of the project, Geir Draugsvoll will record the Accordion Études, Livres 1 & 2 for a digital release in the Spring 2025.
Special thanks to Geir Draugsvoll for his guidance, commitment, and immersion in the technical challenges and artistic expression of the pieces, as well as the accordionist Luca Bellto, an Italian student at the Royal Danish Academy of Music, for his comments and advice. The first overall premiere of Livre 1 will be performed by Luca Bello at NordAccordion, Voss, Norway, in August 2024.
