PERFORMANCE NOTES This piece is for saxophone, percussion & tape. The taped part is recorded beforehand and played together with the live part. General
Staging
: Whistled notes (p. 4). Arrow up: air outward (normal whistling), arrow down: air inward.
Saxophone : Stream of air through the saxophone. No defined pitch. The positioning on the note lines refer only to the “phonetic” shape of the mouth while blowing. The higher the “note”, the lighter/ sharper/more trebly.
Percussion í 7 wood blocks (2 small, 3 medium, 2 large), wrapped in different materials: s

: Breathe in through the saxophone.

: Breathe in normally (with sounding voice). : Breathe out normally (with sounding voice).
2: paper 3: tin foil
: The letters or numbers above a note refer to a certain grip. The actual grip is optional, but A obviously refers to an A, B to B and so on.
: Breathe out through the saxophone (loose lips).

4: cloth 5: plastic foil 6: paper 7: plastic foil
Three different types of sticks are used: whiskers, rods, and snare sticks. í Sand paper rubbed on a piece of paper or cartboard (fastned to a table). For the tape part 3 types of sand paper roughness are needed (A-B-C, C being the roughest). í Small tam (tape) and medium tam (live), both bowed.
: Played notes (upper voice) are transposed (tr.). Sung notes (lower voice) are written as they sound (s.r.)! They are always sung bocca chiusa (closed mouth) with either an m- or n/ng-sound.
í 2 suspended cymbals, small and medium, both bowed (tape part only). í Wine glass (tuned with water). The tone is produced by sliding a wet finger slowly along the edge of the glass.
