PREFACE
The “Dances under Open Skies” were composed for the 75th anniversary of the church in Gurre (close to Elsinore on Zealand in Denmark) in 1993 and performed for the first time by the composer in the celebration concert the 9th of June together with the Symphony No. 2 by the French composer Louis Vierne.
• The organ in the church of Gurre has 20 stops on two manuals (Great and Swell), and the style is inspired by French romantic organ building.
• The suggestions for the use of stops were made by the composer.
• Any organist who wishes to play the dances will have to adapt the work to fit the organ concerned and the venue in which it is to be played.
The titles for each movement are connected by the composer to different flowers and trees. The English translations are as follows:
I Dance of the Spring Rain (Lilac and Golden Shower)
II Dance of the Inner Quiet (Globe-Flower)
III Dance of the Heavenward Aspiration (Japanese Flowering Cherry and Magnolia)
I Dansen i forårsregnen (Syren og guldregn)
