ETRO Austria is one of the local pioneers in this area as it has been relying on EDI technology since the early 90s. At METRO, the challenges related to orders and deliveries are, first and foremost, the large range of goods and the resulting high number of suppliers. Another challenge is maintaining a detailed overview of ongo-

ing EDI processes. This is why METRO Austria introduced an EDI monitoring solution early this year which makes order and delivery processes more transparent. The digital transformation is in full swing in all industries and business sectors. In the area of merchandise logistics, this disPeter Franzmair ruption has been going on for quite CEO, Editel Austria a few years. In addition to embracing this transformation, the top priorities in this industry are the correct handling of digital data, which must be checked, processed, exchanged and then processed once again.

How can businesses keep an eye on everything and ensure that all processes, from ordering to invoicing, run smoothly and without a glitch? METRO has found an answer to this question: Business Monitoring Solution by EDITEL. You might enjoy reading more about this in our lead article on page 1. And the Slovak electronics retailer NAY has made its business processes more efficient now and in the future by connecting its ERP system to its EDI structure.

In addition to introducing innovations, such as our EDI service eXite® (more information on this is available in the enclosed special supplement), keeping existing EDI processes up and running is key. SPAR has taken an important step forward by insisting on the use of the goods received message RECADV. The implementation of this EDI message permanently solves the problem of volume-related inconsistencies. In an interview on page 4, Daniel Schuster of SPAR Austria shares his insight into this approach.

All this goes to show that there are myriad opportunities of managing data in a transparent manner. EDI is a valuable tool in this process. I hope the projects highlighted in this issue will serve as inspiration.

he optimization of all business processes is the first priority for the restaurant chain VAPIANO: in addition to overhauling its entire ERP and POS system, VAPIANO is introducing Electronic Data Interchange (EDI). Following a call for tenders for the fully automated exchange of article and order data as well as advices of receipt, ­VAPIANO chose EDITEL as its EDI partner.

Both companies teamed up to successfully introduce EDI at as many as three locations in Germany since the start of the pilot phase in early 2017. As a next step, EDI will gradually be introduced at other locations in Germany and subsequently in other countries as well. n www.vapiano.com

NAY INCREASES ITS BUSINESS VOLUME WITH EDITEL U

ntil recently, the use of EDI at the Slovak electronics wholesaler NAY focused mainly on traditional procurement of goods processes. The acquisition of the Czech “Electro World” in 2014 was a good time to expand the use of EDI to other areas as well. This is where EDITEL came in, who has been the EDI services provider of choice of NAY since 2008.

e-invoicing solution as well as the introduction of additional messages including despatch advice (DESADV), receiving advice (RECADV) and inventory report (INVRPT). One of the big projects for the current year is connecting more than 100 national and international suppliers to the EDI network. Concurrently, EDITEL is preparing a customized interface for the newly introduced SAP information system. n

From Business Breakfast to Working Group Late last year, the Croatian team hosted its first “Business Breakfast.” This new event series has been designed to provide interesting and hands-on insight into a variety of EDI topics for clients and partners, all in a relaxed setting.

Exchanging ideas and experiences is also high on the agenda. ­Re­­­­­presentatives of renowned com­ panies such as BILLA, Kaufland, dm-drogeriemarkt and SPAR ­Hrvatska attended the event. A very

promising result of this get-together was the creation of a dedicated ­working group for “e-invoicing in Croatia.” Another Business Breakfast about e-invoices in PDF format was also very well received. The Croatian business newspaper “IN Store” is the media partner for the entire event series. The next events are coming up soon. n www.editel.hr

SPAR RELIES ON RECADV ECADV is so much more than just a merchandise receipt message. ­RECADV (receiving advice) can shorten information flows, minimize invoicing discrepancies and reduce the workload at the warehouse, at the sales location, and in the accounting department. SPAR Austria leverages these advantages for both its own benefit and for the benefit of its suppliers. Daniel Schuster (head of e-purchasing and B2B projects) at SPAR Austria elaborates on this issue in the following interview:

SPAR Austria recently ­started using RECADV. Why is that?

Which parts of the company benefit the most?

We are seeing great benefits in all areas that deal with volume and invoicing discrepancies. Our employees at our sales locations and in the warehouse no longer have to report volume discrepancies. In purchasing and accounting, RECADV reduces verifications related to invoicing discrepancies or even eliminates them.

Another benefit for our suppliers is that they can issue their invoices right after delivering the merchandise, which eliminates the risk of complaints and the need for further processing (corrections or credits).

What kind of support does SPAR provide to its suppliers to implement RECADV? SPAR does a test run with every single supplier who would like to receive a confirmation of delivered volumes via RECADV.

ost pressure, individualization and complexity emerged as the top 15 trends identified by the recently presented comprehensive BVL study. Other high priority trends include the digitalization of business processes, transparency in the value creation chain as well as increasingly networked processes. According to the study, increasing digitalization has a considerable impact on logistics and supply chain management. It follows that digital expertise and correct data handling open up great opportunities for any business. However, in order to capitalize on these opportunities, businesses must be willing to innovate and take risks in the area of IT, which ultimately comes down to handling data correctly and in accordance with established business practices.

To achieve that, businesses will need a more intuitive approach to all things IT, both on the subject-matter level and on the management level. In addition, necessary resources need to be provided and employees must be trained appropriately. Technologies like Electronic Data Interchange have the ability to master the ever-increasing complexity of merchandise flows, to increase productivity and to meet client-specific demands. n
