SPAR‘S PATH TO INCREASED ENERGY ­EFFICIENCY With the introduction of EDI, SPAR Österreich has not only complied with the Austrian Energy Efficiency Act. Electronic Data Interchange also provides an overview of all ­consumption data which will serve as a basis for future ­energy-saving action.

A

s part of the ISO 50001 certification and inspired by the climate conference in Paris, SPAR has set ambitious goals for increased energy efficiency that the company wants to reach by 2050. The company has persistently been pursuing these goals with the implementation of an energy management system. This includes first and foremost specific energy-saving goals that SPAR plans

to reach by introducing a number of measures. This is happening against the background of the Austrian Energy Efficiency Act that pursues, among other goals, energy efficiency improvement by 20% by the year 2020.

One of these measures is Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) for power bills and related consumption data. Thanks to a collaboration between

In our last issue, we had once again shown that EDI processes significantly benefit companies in a variePeter Franzmair ty of sectors and industries. SpecifCEO ically, we addressed e-business Editel Austria solutions for legal matters. I am pleased to go even further and present yet another diverse set of companies and projects that benefit from our work.

This issue will feature articles about the implementation of requirements based on the Austrian Energy Efficiency Act with the help of EDI at the SPAR Österreich chain of grocery stores, solutions for the catering business Sodexo (page 2), and the digital archive of the Slovak confectionary manufacturer IDC (page 3). In addition, there’s information about the EDI Integration at the Czech subsidiary of Panasonic Automotive Industrial Systems (page 3), an article about reporting services at the insurance company Uniqa, which has a strong presence throughout Europe (page 3), and pharmaceutical giant Herba Chemosan’s pilot projects in Austria.

One thing remains true across all countries, sectors, industries and company sizes; and it is what propels all these exciting projects: the drive to innovate, optimize and to run a future-proof business. Those are the pillars that make it possible for companies to transform the marketplace and to offer their services in an increasingly customer-friendly way. We are putting a new spin on a classic saying: if there’s potential, there’s a way.

THE AUSTRIAN ENERGY EFFICIENCY ACT Enacted in Austria on 1 January 2015, the Energy Efficiency Act is meant to increase energy efficiency in Austria by 20% by the year 2020 as defined by the Federal Ministry of Science, Research and Economy. The Energy Efficiency Act requires large businesses to implement a management system or to carry out an energy audit every four years.

­ DITEL and the Association of AusE trian Electric Utility Providers (EDA), all energy providers in Austria are now connected to the EDI platform ­eXite®. In practice, this means that all power bills will be sent as ebUtilities-Invoices (which is the XML standard of the Association of Austrian Electric Utility Providers for exchanging invoices) to SPAR via eXite® in a fully automated manner. SPAR currently receives consumption data from 1,500 SPAR stores that use different energy providers. Thanks to EDI, SPAR is now in a position to digitize received invoices and to determine energy consumption and optimization potential for each and every store.

Franz Hölzl, who is in charge of sustainability at SPAR, is happy about the result, and said that “Electronic Data Interchange allows us to go beyond the compliance with the Energy Efficiency Act. It gives us the opportunity to access all consumption data, which offers great potential for additional energy-saving measures.” n

INVOICING TO SMALL ­CLIENTS WITH PDF ­e-INVOICE

usinesses that issue a large number of invoices to many small clients often face an especially high amount of work and effort when it comes to invoicing. Electronic invoicing with PDFs can translate into considerable savings of time and money. Milan Peremsky, Solution Delivery Lead at PepsiCo Czech Republic, commented on the recent introduction of a PDF invoicing solution at his company: “We were looking for an electronic invoicing option that required no technical infrastructure on the part of our small trading partners and that would easily adapt to the formal and legal requirements in different countries. PDF e-Invoice is exactly the solution we needed and EDITEL is a highly competent partner for its implementation.”

n collaboration with the ERP software provider delegate, EDITEL will help Sodexo gradually switch its order processes at more than 400 locations to Electronic Data Interchange (EDI).

The first project phase included the exchange of electronic article master data (PRICAT) including product data relevant for the EU food information regulation, orders (ORDERS) and despatch advices (DESADV) between Sodexo Germany and its suppliers.

Phase two will be all about the implementation of an electronic credit memo procedure. Just like in Austria, the data transfer will be done via e­ Xite®.

Susanne Sperlich, director of purchasing for D|A|CH at Sodexo, explains her satisfaction with the project: “After the highly successful project in Austria we are very pleased to be able to work with EDITEL in Germany as well. We are now in a position of not only optimizing our procurement of goods processes in the long term, but also of harmonizing these processes across countries. We therefore plan to connect our Swiss locations as well.”

he Slovak confectionary producer IDC needed a new solution for digital archiving, given the large number of legal requirements regarding the archiving of electronic documents as well as the company’s intention of archiving the many different formats it receives from business partners in all countries where IDC is active.

Since 2007, IDC has used EDI ser­ vices provided by EDITEL and has

now decided to rely on EDITEL’s expertise in the area of digital archiving.

Martin Miškolci, EDI Application Manager at IDC, comments on the project: “The biggest challenge about this project was taking into account the large number of different processes which result from our many ­different business partners in different countries. he subsidiary of Panasonic Automotive Industrial Systems Europe located in Pardubice in eastern Bohemia employs more than 1,300 people and has received three awards as the best employer in the region. When it comes to creating the technical basis for smooth Electronic Data Interchange (EDI in short) with its business partners, this company is also a trailblazer. It is the first Czech automotive company to use the IBM Sterling B2B Integrator.

Originally, Panasonic Automotive Systems Czech planned to upgrade its existing process integration systems. After an in-depth analysis, this upgrade turned out to be highly complicated and expensive, which prompted Panasonic to choose a new solution altogether, the IBM Sterling B2B Integrator distributed by its EDI service provider EDITEL. EDITEL experts were also entrusted with the implementation of the project. They made sure that the system migration was efficient and seamless. To reach the goal of generating maximum benefit for all participants in the procurement process now and in the future, thorough preparations were needed, in addition to the concise definition of existing processes and available master data.

Since the GS1 standard is used, all participating partners can rely on the same interface, which also makes for a multiplier effect on both sides.
