Technology enhances ideas, innovation, progress as well as many new developments, some of them useful, others less so. The unstoppable expansion of Peter Franzmair smartphones has created the imperative of always CEO, Editel Austria being on, wherever we are. We expect both information and merchandise to be available always and everywhere. The Internet makes it happen.

As a technology partner, EDITEL is committed to providing top-notch support to its clients to prepare them for this development and to make them be part of the mobile revolution. Thus, we actively support the GS1 working group for e-commerce standardization, whose work will considerably increase the efficiency of logistics processes for online stores.

In addition, we have created a convenient app for our Web EDI/tradeIT clients (see page 2), which is available immediately and will allow them to access order data directly from their smartphone or tablet. And for those who would like to check delivery addresses even when they’re not in the office, our Location Finder is the perfect choice. In this system, not only Austrian retailers, but also system catering businesses make useful information available to their suppliers (see page 4).

In the spirit of information exchange, clients and business partners met at this year’s Smarter Integration Forum to discuss how they can work together to design their business processes and set themselves up for success in the long run. This event was organized by EDITEL and its business partner of many years, IBM (see page 3).

Last but not least, don’t forget to read our lead story. Grocery store or gas station convenience store? Sometimes, the lines are blurred. Either way, I encourage you to read this article that will show you how electronic processes can help gas stations create a wide range of product offerings.

This allows for the exact amount of products required to get delivered right to gas station convenience stores each and every day. It makes no difference which products will eventually go on the shelves: EDI is commonly used for many different purposes, including food and engine oil orders and even magazine returns or invoicing processes for gas station services for fleet partners such as carwash and fuel cards. All necessary order, delivery, invoice and other logistics-related data are exchanged with connected business partners via our eXite® platform.

It’s worth it!

At MPREIS, completely electronic invoices really do pay off.

More than 1,000 invoices are currently electronically processed, checked and archived.

here are efforts that pay off and efforts that don’t. The manual inspection of individual invoice items for hundreds of incoming invoices definitely falls in the latter category. Which is exactly what prompted MPREIS to automate the invoicing process. The starting point was January 1, 2013, which marked the date that electronic invoices received the same legal status as paper invoices. Since then, the Tyrolean retail company has been gradually switching to electronic invoicing. Martin Tscherner, project manager at MPREIS, is pleased with the project:

“In the current phase, we process approximately 1,000 INVOIC messages per month completely paperless and this number is expected to increase. Switching from paper to electronic invoices requires a fair amount of time and communication efforts between us and our suppliers. Initially, but as soon as we stop sending paper invoices altogether, the time and effort we have all put into this will pay off and we will reap the benefits now and in the future.” Among others, these benefits include 24/7 information regarding the status of all invoice documents. Also, PDFs can be provided as needed, even for archived invoices.

Via an interface with the EDI platform ­eXite®, all participating partners are efficiently connected to the system and electronic invoices are safely transferred.

Overall, MPREIS receives goods from more than 250 suppliers. More business partners are expected to switch to the paperless system soon. n

Smart exchange The 2015 Smarter Data Interchange Forum, organized by EDITEL CZ in cooperation with IBM on March 17, was all about reducing complexity and making B2B processes more transparent. Jan Mvrik, managing director of EDITEL CZ, reflects on the event: “B2B process integration is a major issue for our clients. This forum has been created to serve as a platform to discuss all related aspects from a business and a technological point of view. he sporting goods industry is unlike any other in terms of special offers, end-of-season sales and store openings, which translates into constantly fluctuating prices, orders, deliveries and inventory.
