ANNOUNCEMENTS Family Salsa Night, Friday, December 1st - 5:30-8PM – Thank you to PTA VP Ayesha Mayagoitia (our Ed Foundation representative) and all the members of the PTA Board and other volunteers who created such a fun Family Salsa Night last week! In our first Salsa Tasting Competition, Teacher Martha st rd Cueva took 1 and 3 places and Luhanda Garvin nd took 2 . Maestras Murcia and Ipiña led salsa dance lessons, Luhanda Garvin and students reprised their th Celia Cruz dance tribute, and 14 5 graders gave an encore ballroom dance performance. We even had our first ever outdoor movie night on the big screen in the courtyard! Nearly 70% of Edison families have donated to the Education Foundation this year – the highest percentage in the whole district! Congratulations to the new parent representatives on the Edison Site Council: Gina Engler, Daniela Morato, and John Zimmerman. Thanks to the following parents who are concluding their terms on Site Council: Luis Carlos Villegas, Cecilia Tovar and Michael Kremer. We have appreciated your leadership and dedication. The Site Council meeting on Wednesday, December 13 (4:006:00 pm) is an orientation for new members and business meeting for the current Council. New members will officially take their places on 1/17/18. Lost and Found – Has your child lost a sweater, sweatshirt, coat, lunchbox, water bottle, or plastic lunch containers? Please check the Edison Lost and Found – we have quite a large collection of items! Those that are not claimed before winter break will be donated to charity over the holiday.

FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK: DECEMBER – EVERY DAY COUNTS!

School was only scheduled to be in session 15 and a half days in December. Now, with the early dismissals and closures for fire emergencies, there are even fewer days. Add to that the events that needed to be rescheduled because of the closures and these last two weeks will be super busy! December is also prime learning time, so please do your best to avoid any further absences these next two weeks. Please note the dates below: Edison’s Música en Español program for Pre-school, Transitional st nd Kindergarten, Kinder, 1 and 2 grades will still hold informances in Room 107 on the following dates: • Monday, December 11: 10:15-10:45 am – Maestra Newman (TK); 10:55-11:25 am - Maestra Melendez (2); 11:30-12:00 noon - Maestra Cervantes (1); 12:30-1:00 pm- Maestra Fullerton (K); 1:05-1:35 pm Maestra Jimenez (2);2:10-2:40 -Maestra Tejeda (1) • Friday, December 15: 10:15-10:45 am – Maestras Patty y Flavia (Preschool); 10:55-11:25 am - Maestra Banks (K); 12:30 – 1:00 pm Maestra Meade (K); 1:05-1:35 pm- Maestra Martinez (2); 2:10-2:40 pm - Maestra Cueva (1). Winter Concerts and Informances for Instrumental and Choral Music for Grades 4 and 5: th • 4 Grade – Thursday, December 14 at 8:40 a. in students’ music classrooms. Please sign in at the Front Office and staff will direct you to the appropriate classroom. th • 5 Grade Concert – Has been rescheduled to take place on Tuesday, December 19 at 8:40 am in the Cafeteria. Holiday Gift Sales will be held the week of December 11 in the mornings at drop off. PTA will be offering small low-cost items that children may wish to purchase as holiday gifts for their parents, sibs, grandparents etc. That same week, Novica will be offering gifts for sale with a % of sales supporting Edison. Room 203’s field trip to the Skirball, originally scheduled for Tuesday, December 12 is being rescheduled. Stay tuned for the new date. Catalina payments originally due December 1, will be accepted th through December 15 . If you had an SST, IEP, or 504 meeting scheduled on a day when we had a school closure, staff will contact you about rescheduling. PTA Board Meeting originally scheduled for December 6 will now be held on Wednesday, December 13.
