Asia meets Europe in Edinburgh this August 12 August – 4 September 2011 Experience the unique atmosphere of Edinburgh in August during an unforgettable three weeks of the very best in international opera, music, theatre, dance and the visual arts.

Festival 2011 celebrates the vibrant and diverse cultures of Asia with the finest artists from China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea and Vietnam joining others from around the world to explore our shared passions.

Immerse yourself in the sublime fantasy of the Mariinsky Opera’s Die Frau ohne Schatten, conducted by the legendary Valery Gergiev, or cross the boundary between reality and dreams in a staged production of Haruki Murakami’s The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle. Enjoy captivating dance from China, India, New York and Vietnam or experience Tim Supple’s erotic, witty and

brutal One Thousand and One Nights, a pulsating adaptation of the famous Arabic tales.

East meets west in unique adaptations of classic Shakespearean stories, from a one-man King Lear to the Shanghai Peking Opera Troupe’s breathtaking version of Hamlet, or hear the world’s finest orchestras, ensembles and soloists perform programmes of traditional Asian music and western classical repertoire inspired by the vibrant cultures of the east.

All against the iconic backdrop of Scotland’s stunning capital city.
