THE TAU

Il TAU è il segno con cui San Francesco d’Assisi amava firmare le lettere e le benedizioni. Il TAU infatti, ultima lettera dell’alfabeto ebraico, è indicato nella Bibbia come simbolo di salvezza. Nel libro del profeta Ezechiele e nel libro dell’Apocalisse esso è segno profetico della redenzione attraverso la Croce di Cristo.“Il Signore disse: passa in mezzo alla città, in mezzo a Gerusalemme e segna un TAU sulla fronte degli uomini che sospirano e piangono.” (Ez. 9,4). “È un segno di potente protezione contro il male.” (Ez.9,6). Quello per il TAU era un amore che scaturiva da una appassionata venerazione per la santa croce, per l’umiltà del Cristo, oggetto continuo delle meditazioni di Francesco. Il TAU era inoltre per il Santo il segno concreto della sua salvezza e la vittoria di Cristo sul male. Oggi il TAU è simbolo della spiritualità francescana che si esprime nell’amore per la pace, la letizia, il Creato.

The TAU is the sign with which St. Francis of Assisi loved signing his letters and blessings. Indeed, the TAU, the last letter of the Hebrew alphabet, is indicated in the Bible as a symbol of salvation. In the book of Ezekiel and in Revelation it is a prophetic sign of redemption through the Cross of Christ.

“The Lord said: go throughout the city of Jerusalem and mark the TAU on the foreheads of those who grieve and lament.” (Ezek. 9.4). “It is a sign of powerful protection against evil ...” (Ez. 9, 6). The love for the TAU was a love that sprang from a passionate reverence for the holy cross, for the humility of Christ, the subject of ongoing meditations of Saint Francis. For the Saint, the TAU was also the concrete sign of his salvation and of the victory of Christ over evil. Today, the TAU is the symbol of Franciscan spirituality that expresses the love for peace, joy, and God’s creation.

THE MESSAGE

IL MESSAGGIO Il TAU è emblema di un percorso di fede che ruota intorno a Dio e come le vicende della vita si susseguono risolvendosi nella fede, così i TAU di Humilis si ripercorrono creando reciprocamente una sequenza senza fine, come dire eterna. esportazioni (era al 16% all’inizio del nuovo secolo). Come altre industrie del made in Italy, anche l’attività orafa è localizzata in siti precisi.I distretti industriali italiani hanno assunto – per meriti acquisiti – una caratterizzazione giuridica e con ciò hanno potenziato le forze per le rispettive azioni operative e per raggiungere un’efficiente organizzazione in rete. Con questo network di aziende, il distretto orafo (e altri distretti del Made in Italy) non rappresenta soltanto un luogo dove si produce qualcosa, ma un vero e proprio sistema produttivo, nonché sociale. A seguito della cadenza trimestrale della pubblicazione dei dati per provincia, l’analisi delle esportazioni dai vari distretti orafi fa riferimento al primo semestre 2015.L’analisi delle provenienze dei gioielli esportati nel primo semestre 2015 mette in luce l’ulteriore balzo in su delle esportazioni della gioielleria di eccellenza di Valenza Po, +52,3%, e il nuovo recupero di Vicenza (+9,6%). Per contro, da Arezzo è stato rilevato un sia pur limitato ridimensionamento (-4%). A seguito dei ricordati movimenti, la quota sul totale di Valenza (26,4%) è salita al secondo posto nella graduatoria dei distretti esportatori, dopo Arezzo (28,6%). Segue Vicenza con il 23,2%.

Si è così rafforzato l’accentramento territoriale delle vendite all’estero di gioielleria dai tre principali distretti, raggiungendo quasi quattro quinti del totale. Nel nuovo contesto competitivo e con l’affermarsi impetuoso delle nuove tecnologie, anche i distretti – così come le singole aziende – necessitano di un ampliamento dell’offerta di servizi alle imprese e di una riorganizzazione gestionale per facilitare il sorgere e lo sviluppo dell’intera filiera orafa italiana. Sul piano delle destinazioni dei gioielli (in valori nominali), emergono alcune inversioni di tendenza delle esportazioni in taluni dei più importanti paesi acquirenti. Così gli Emirati Arabi, dopo una serie di arretramenti nella prima parte del 2015, hanno ripreso a crescere nel bimestre giugno-luglio: +26,2% anno su anno. Ma nel complesso dei primi sette mesi marcano ancora una flessione del -11,5%. Al contrario, la Svizzera, dopo uno slancio iniziale, ha rallentato la corsa nel bimestre giugnoluglio (+7,2%). Comunque mantiene nel periodo dei primi sette mesi un aumento del +18,7%; un aumento che supera quello dell’export complessivo. Altri paesi – grandi acquirenti di gioielleria italiana – hanno continuato a crescere: Hong

Con gli aumenti – in termini nominali – di metà 2015, l’export italiano ha così superato i livelli massimi del 2000 (3.339 miliardi di euro, sempre nei primi sette mesi). Ma, in termini reali, il distacco delle consistenze attuali da quelle del 2000 rimane ancora consistente per effetto del balzo in su dei prezzi delle materie prime preziose. In particolare, i corsi internazionali dell’oro sono più che triplicati: da 303 euro per oncia del 2000 a 1.073 euro del 2015 (fonte Wgc). Comunque, con questi risultati l’industria italiana della gioielleria ha accentuato la già spiccata vocazione internazionale, con riferimento soprattutto agli oggetti di alta gamma. In un mondo globalizzato dove si moltiplicano le presenze di concorrenti, la qualità rimane vitale per la competitività della produzione italiana (e quindi per recuperare quote di mercato), naturalmente unita all’indispensabile attività d’investimento in nuove tecnologie e in servizi a sostegno del prodotto. L’industria della gioielleria italiana si conferma come una delle eccellenze del paese.

Un’eccellenza non solo perché ha una leadership qualitativa e di design globalmente riconosciuta, ma anche perché ha saputo difendersi dalla crisi degli ultimi anni. Questo non era un esito scontato. Infatti il ricordato rafforzamento della crescita dell’export è avvenuto nonostante la caduta della domanda in vari paesi e le penalizzazioni delle esportazioni italiane su vari fronti. Tra le altre, le barriere doganali e non doganali, le politiche commerciali non corrette (come le falsificazioni e il dumping), i rapporti dei cambi valutari che riducono la competitività dei prodotti italiani (ed europei), gli elevati dazi doganali sui valori dei gioielli. Dazi che vanno a colpire anche la quota di valore generata dalla bolla inflazionistica dei metalli preziosi. Dopo le incertezze dei primi mesi dell’anno, anche la domanda interna di gioielleria ha presentato recuperi. Nei primi sette mesi 2015 il fatturato interno è cresciuto del 5,7% anno su anno, per effetto anche del nuovo rialzo dei prezzi impliciti in euro. Le ricostituzioni di scorte presso le catene distributive hanno stimolato anche le importazioni che, nello stesso periodo, hanno segnato un balzo del +49,3%, a una cifra che rappresenta il 42% delle 2016 Orafo

seven months). However, in real terms, the gap of the current consistencies from those of 2000 is still remarkable due to the increase of prices of raw materials for precious items. In particular, the price of gold is more than triplicated: from 303 Euros per ounce in 2000 to 1,073 Euros in 2015 (source: Wgc). However, with these results, the Italian Jewellery industry has emphasised its already evident international vocation, mainly with reference to high range jewels. In a 10,0 globalised world where the competitors multiply, the quality remains the critical element for the competitiveness of Italian manufacturing (and 100,0 therefore it should be used to win back some market shares), obviously combined with the essential investments in new technologies and services supporting the product. The Italian jewellery industry confirms itself as one of the excellences of the country. This not only for its globally acknowledged qualitative and design leadership, but also because it managed to withstand the crises over the last years. This was not a foregone conclusion. In fact the above mentioned strengthening in the growth of export occurred despite the drop in the demand in various countries and the penalizations of Italian exports on various fronts. Among others, customs and non customs barriers, unfair trade policies (such as counterfeiting and dumping) the ratio of currency exchanges reducing the competitiveness of Italian (and European) products, the high

Kong+Cina (+17,8%), Stati Uniti (+15,7%) e soprattutto la Francia che ha quasi raddoppiato i suoi acquisti, salendo così al quarto posto (con il 9,7%) nella graduatoria dei paesi acquirenti, precedendo gli Stati Uniti. Com’è noto, le vendite delle imprese italiane segnano un ulteriore accentramento delle destinazioni, nonostante un ventaglio di circa 100 paesi acquirenti. Nei primi sette mesi 2015, cinque paesi anno acquisito oltre due terzi delle esportazioni totali e la metà a tre paesi soltanto.

Naturalmente le quote delle spedizioni ai singoli paesi non corrispondono a quote di consumo di gioielleria italiana. Alcuni paesi svolgono funzioni commerciali, di smistamento. Le riesportazioni complessive da questi paesi rappresentano più della metà dell’export italiano di gioielleria. Una quantità rilevante di gioielli di cui gli operatori non conoscono il mercato finale di consumo. Il recupero delle vendite italiane di gioielleria, se saprà intercettare le opportunità dei nuovi (e vecchi) mercati, potrà manifestarsi anche nei prossimi trimestri. L’industria della gioielleria soffre ancora di un eccesso di capacità produttiva inutilizzata. Ma è un settore su cui si potrebbe scommettere un nuovo rilancio. Il traino dell’euro debole non è certo l’unica leva su cui può contare. Il sistema orafo distrettuale si è dimostrato competitivo, con andamenti delle vendite superiori a quelle di altri comparti del made in Italy.

26,4% reorganization to favour the rising and development of the whole Italian goldsmith supply chain. As for the destinations of jewels (in nominal values) some turnarounds of exports in some of the most important purchasing countries emerge.

Therefore, the Arab Emirates, after a series of reversions in the first part of 2015, started growing again in June-July: +26,2% yearly. However, as a whole, in the first seven months they still evidence a drop by -11.5%. On the contrary Switzerland, after an initial momentum, slowed down in June-July (+7,2%).

However, in the first seven months, it maintains an increase by +18.7%, which surpasses the total export. Other countries, big buyers of Italian jewellery, have continued to grow. Hong Kong+China (+17.8%), United States (+15.7%) and above all France that has nearly doubled its purchases, thus reaching the fourth place (with 9.7%) in the list of purchasing countries, before the United States. As known, the sales of Italian companies evidence a further centralization of destinations, despite a range of around 100 purchasing countries. In the first seven months of 2015, five countries have acquired over two thirds of total exports and half in three countries only. The shares of deliveries to the individual countries obviously do not correspond to shares of Italian jewellery consumption. Some countries have commercial functions connected to sorting. The total re-exports from these countries represent over half of the Italian export for jewellery. A significant quantity of jewels of which the operators do not know the final consumption market. The recovery of the Italian sales of jewellery could be evident also in the following quarters, provided that it will be able to intercept the opportunities of new (and old) markets.

The jewellery sector is still suffering of an excess of unused production capacity. However it is a sector on which to stake on for a new relaunch. The drive of a weak Euro is certainly not the only lever to rely on. The district goldsmith system proved to be competitive, with sale trends greater than those for other sectors of Made in Italy.

customs duties on the values of jewels. Duties that also impact on the share of value generated by the inflation bubble of precious metals. After the uncertainties of the first months of the year, also the domestic demand of jewellery evidenced a recovery. In the first seven months of 2015, the domestic sales have increased by +5.7% yearly, also due to the increase of implicit prices in Euro. The restocking at the distribution chains also stimulated imports that, in the same period, registered a leap forward by 49.3%, with an amount accounting for 42% of exports (16% at the beginning of the new century). As other sectors of Made in Italy, also the goldsmith activity is located in specific sites. Italian industrial districts obtained, for acquired merits, a legal characterisation strengthening themselves for the respective operation actions and to reach an efficient network organisation.

With this network of companies, the goldsmith district (as well as other Made in Italy districts) is not only a place where something is manufactured, but a true production and social system. Following the quarterly publication of data for each province, the analysis of exports from the various goldsmith districts refers to the first half-year of 2015.

The analysis of the origins of the jewels exported in the first half-year of 2015 evidences the further leap forward of exports in the excellence jewellery of Valenza Po, +52,3% and the new catching up of Vicenza (+9,6%). On the other hand, Arezzo recorded a limited decrease (-4%). Following the above mentioned movements, the share on the total value of Valenza (26.4%) obtained the second place in the list of exporting districts, after Arezzo (28.6%). Vicenza follows with 23.2%. The territorial centralization of the sales abroad of jewellery from the three main districts was strengthened, reaching almost four fifths of the total. Barbie. The Icon È nata il 9 marzo 1959 a Willows (Wisconsin) e nei suoi 56 anni di vita è riuscita a diventare un'icona culturale, sociale e di stile. Il suo nome di battesimo è Barbara Millicent Roberts (dal nome di una famosa socialite dell’epoca) ma nel mondo è meglio conosciuta come Barbie. Una bambola concepita come giocattolo che tuttavia ha saputo connettersi con il mondo che la circondava. Il Museo delle Culture di Milano (Mudec) ha deciso quindi di dedicarle una mostra aperta fino al 13 marzo 2016 dal titolo Barbie. The Icon.

L'esposizione ripercorre la storia di Barbie in cinque tappe, dal mondo della moda, con i look in miniatura che alcuni stilisti hanno creato per lei, alla famiglia e agli amici, con le sorelle e il fidanzato Ken. C’è l’universo delle professioni, che l'hanno vista indossare i panni non solo della modella ma anche del soldato, del medico o dell’aviatore. Dato l’enorme successo ottenuto negli anni, si può affermare che Barbie ha unito milioni di bambine creando un legame tra le diverse culture e le generazioni. A questo aspetto multiculturale il Mudec ha deciso di dedicare un'intera sezione vestendo le Barbie con i costumi tradizionali dei diversi paesi del mondo. L'ultima area rende omaggio a tutte le donne e dive in cui la famosa bambola si è trasformata, come Cleopatra, Elisabetta I, Caterina de’ Medici e Madame de Pompadour.

Chiude l'esposizione la Barbie Mudec, realizzata in esclusiva per questa occasione come simbolo di multiculturalità.

■ She was born on 9th March 1959 in Willows (Wisconsins) and in the course of her 56 years of life she has managed to become a cultural, social and style icon. Her full name is Barbara Millicent Roberts (after the name of a famous socialite of the time), but she is better known globally as Barbie. A doll designed as a toy that, however, was able to connect to the world surrounding her. Therefore, the Museo delle Culture di Milano (Mudec) has decided to dedicate her an exhibition open until 13th March 2016 and entitled Barbie. The Icon. The exhibition goes back over the history of Barbie in five steps, from the fashion world, with the miniature looks that some fashion designers created for her, to family and friends with her sisters and her boyfriend Ken. There is the world of professions where she is a model, but also a soldier, a doctor as well as an airwoman. Given the huge success obtained over the years, we can affirm that Barbie united millions of girls creating a bond between different cultures and generations. Mudec has decided to dedicate an entire section to this multicultural aspect having Barbie wearing the traditional costumes of different countries in the world. The last area is a homage to all women and divas the famous doll embodied, such as Cleopatra, Elisabeth I, Caterina de’ Medici and Madame de Pompadour.

The exhibition is concluded with Barbie Mudec created exclusively for this event as a symbol of multiculturalism.

I curatori della mostra Paola Bertola e Vittorio Linfante hanno deciso di non definirli stilisti emergenti ma "protagonisti della moda italiana oggi". Non è un caso quindi che l'esposizione aperta alla Triennale di Milano fino al 6 marzo 2016 sia stata intitolata Il nuovo vocabolario della moda italiana e che celebri coloro che negli ultimi 20 anni hanno recuperato e rinnovato il DNA culturale, tecnico e tecnologico della tradizione, interpretandolo con un linguaggio del tutto originale. Dalla A alla Z il vocabolario ripercorre alcuni concetti del Made in Italy contemporaneo, come Dettaglio (D), Laboratorio (L) e Superficie (S), grazie ad abiti, calzature, bijoux, occhiali e cappelli inseriti all'interno di installazioni che illustrano il prodotto e il relativo processo creativo. La mostra si allontana così dai grandi miti del Made in Italy nati negli anni Novanta e testimonia la capacità di rigenerazione della moda attraverso una nuova e talentuosa leva di designer.

■ Paolo Bertola and Vittorio Linfante, the curators of the exhibition, decided not to define them as emerging fashion designers, but "protagonists of today's Italian fashion". It is not by chance that the exhibition open at the Triennal of Milan until 6th March 2016 was entitled Il Nuovo Vocabolario della Moda Italiana (The new vocabulary of Italian fashion) and that it celebrates all those that, over the last 20 years, have recovered and renewed the cultural, technical and technological DNA of tradition, reinterpreting it with an absolutely original language. From A to Z, the vocabulary traces back some concepts of contemporary Made in Italy, such as Detail (D), Laboratory (L) and Surface (S) thanks to clothes, shoes, costume jewels, glasses and hats included within installations describing the product and the related creative process. Therefore, the exhibition distances itself from the great myths of Made in Italy born in the nineties and witnesses the regeneration capacity of fashion through a new generation of designers.

les italiens de paris La pittura italiana e internazionale di fine Ottocento è protagonista del nuovo appuntamento espositivo (fino al 21 febbraio) di GAMManzoni, Centro Studi per l’arte Moderna e Contemporanea di Milano. La mostra Belle Époque. La Parigi di Boldini, De Nittis e Zandomeneghi ripercorre l'arte dei tre “Italiens de Paris” attraverso 35 opere che fanno rivivere gli anni della Belle Époque e li arricchisce con le opere di altri artisti italiani attivi a Parigi nello stesso periodo, quali Vittorio Matteo Corcos, Antonio Mancini ed Edoardo Tofano. Il vivere borghese dei salotti parigini è rappresentato da Giuseppe De Nittis, che nelle sue tele coglieva anche lo splendore urbano della Parigi di quegli anni. La moda raffinatissima e assai strutturata del periodo è invece colta da Giovanni Boldini che prediligeva i ritratti delle signore dell'alta società. The Paris of Boldini, De Nittis and Zandomeneghi traces back the art of three “Italiens de Paris” through 35 works that bring to life the years of the Belle Epoque enriching them with works of other Italian artists active in Paris in the same period, such as Vittorio Matteo Corcos, Antonio Mancini, Edoardo Tofano. The bourgeois life of Paris salons is represented by Giuseppe De Nittis that, in his paintings, also caught the urban splendour of Paris in those years. The very refined and extremely structured fashion of the period is caught by Giovanni Boldini that preferred the portraits of high society ladies. The same female subjects were chosen

by Federico Zandomeneghi that, however, took inspirations from the works of such impressionist painters as Renoir and Cézanne rather than from public news.

Lee Miller: A Woman’s War A Settant'anni dalla fine della Seconda Guerra Mondiale l'Imperial War Museum di Londra rende omaggio a Lee Miller con la mostra Lee Miller: A Woman’s War. La Miller fu infatti una delle quattro fotografe professioniste accreditate come corrispondenti ufficiali durante la II guerra mondiale ed ebbe così la possibilità di ritrarre l'impatto del conflitto sulla vita delle donne, documentandone le esperienze e il punto di vista. La mostra si articola in quattro sezioni suddivise in fasce temporali: la prima (Women before the Second World War) racconta il percorso che ha portato la Miller a diventare fotografa di guerra; la seconda e la terza (Women in Wartime Britain e Women in Wartime Europe) testimoniano l'inesorabile trasformazione della vita delle donne durante la guerra; l'ultima (Women after the Second World War) conclude il ciclo con una visione del processo di recupero e rinascita successivi al conflitto. L'esposizione sarà aperta al pubblico fino al 24 aprile 2016.

■ Seventy years after the end of World War II, the Imperial War Museum of London pays a homage to Lee Miller with the exhibition Lee Miller: A Woman’s War. Miller was one of the four professional female photographer accredited as official war reporters and, therefore, had the possibility to open a window on the impact of the conflict

on the life of women, recording their experience and point of view. The exhibition is organised in four sections divided into time periods: the first (Women before the Second World War) tells the path leading Miller to become a war photographer, the second and third (Women in Wartime Britain and Women in Wartime Europe) testify the inevitable transformation of the life of women during the war; the last (Women after the Second World War) ends the cycle with an overview of the process of recovery and rebirth following the conflict. The exhibition will be open to the public until 24th April 2016.

Manus x machina: fashion in an age of technology Ciò che da sempre ha distinto la haute couture dal prêt-àporter è la tecnica di produzione, che nel primo caso prevede la realizzazione a mano e nel secondo l'utilizzo dei macchinari.

La situazione è stata però rivoluzionata dalle nuove tecnologie, che hanno cambiato radicalmente il modo di concepire e produrre un abito. Sarà proprio la tecnologia infatti il tema portante della prossima esposizione al Costume Institute del Metropolitan Museum di New York. Manus x machina: fashion in an age of technology, questo il titolo della mostra, aprirà al pubblico dal 5 Maggio al 14 agosto ed esplorerà, attraverso più di 100 creazioni tra Chanel, Dior, Balenciaga e molti altri, l'impatto della tecnologia sulla moda e il modo in cui i designer stanno affrontando e sfruttando, dal punto di vista creativo, la dicotomia mano/macchina. ■ The production technique has always characterised both haute couture and prêt-à-porter. In the former it implies a hand manufacturing while in the latter it involves the use of machinery. The situation, though, was revolutionised by new technologies that radically changed the way of designing and manufacturing a piece of clothing.

Technology will be the main theme in the next exhibition at the Costume Institute of the Metropolitan Museum of New York. splendour and misery Il lusso e il degrado della prostituzione parigina del diciannovesimo secolo sono in mostra al Musée d’Orsay fino al 17 gennaio con Splendour and Misery.

Images of Prostitution 1850-1910. Ispirata all'omonimo romanzo di Honoré de Balzac, l’esposizione è un viaggio artistico tra i bordelli, i Café Chantant e i boulevard di Parigi attraverso i dipinti di Picasso, Degas, Cézanne, Van Gogh, Manet e molti altri artisti che hanno fatto delle prostitute le loro muse ispiratrici. Nei quadri troviamo infatti la vita quotidiana delle case chiuse, dalle visite mediche alla preparazione davanti allo specchio, scene immaginate o realmente vissute dagli artisti stessi. La mostra raccoglie anche testimonianze varie della Parigi dell'Ottocento, tra documenti scritti, quadri e fotografie appartenuti alle cortigiane facoltose, alle attrici sospettate di doppia vita (tra queste anche Blanche d'Antigny e Sarah Bernhardt), e alle prostitute da strada. Al termine della tappa francese la mostra proseguirà al Van Gogh Museum di Amsterdam dal 19 febbraio al 19 giugno 2016.

■ The luxury and degradation of Paris prostitution of the nineteenth century are on display at the Musée d’Orsay until 17th January with Splendour and Misery.

Images of Prostitution 1850-1910. Inspired by the homonymous novel by Honoré de Balzac, the exhibition is an artistic journey among brothels, the Ville Lumière and the boulevards of Paris through the paintings by Picasso, Degas, Cézanne, Van Gogh, Manet and many others that turned these women into their muses. In fact, the paintings portray the daily life of prostitutes, from medical examinations to the preparation in front of the mirror, scenes that were imagined or really lived by the artists themselves. The exhibition also includes the artistic witnesses of nineteenth century Paris, among written documents, paintings and pictures that belonged to affluent courtesans, to actresses suspected of double life (among them also Blanche d'Antigny and Sarah Bernhardt), as well as to streetwalkers. After the French event the exhibition will continue at the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam from 19th February to 19th June 2016.

ToulouseLautrec Lussuria, decadenza e bellezza hanno circondato la vita di Henri de ToulouseLautrec, arricchendo e caratterizzando le sue opere. La sua fama nacque nell'atelier che l’artista aveva allestito nel cuore di Montmartre e dove creava i suoi più importanti lavori. Il mondo di Toulouse-Lautrec era quello della Belle Époque parigina, sempre ricco di nuove idee e personaggi stravaganti, con una predilezione per le donne dei luoghi che l’artista frequentava di più: il Moulin Rouge con le ballerine di can-can, i teatri dove si esibivano attrici e cantanti e le maison closes tra le nudità delle prostitute.

Luci e ombre di Montmartre che raccoglie le opere dedicate a Montmartre, ai teatri, alle prostitute, ma anche le opere giovanili su cavalli, circo e vita quotidiana.

His fame grew so rapidly that even the most important magazines of the time, such as Figaro Illustré, Courrier Francais or La Revue blanche, commissioned him some illustrations. A fame that today leads his works to be on display at the Palazzo Blu of Pisa until 14th February 2016 with the exhibition Toulouse-Lautrec. Lights and shadows of Montmartre including works dedicated to Montmartre, theatres, prostitutes, but also early works on horses, circus and daily life.

Undressed: A Brief History of Underwear Il Victoria & Albert Museum si “spoglia” per mostrare cosa si nasconde sotto gli abiti. Il 16 Aprile 2016 infatti inaugurerà la mostra Undressed: A Brief History of Underwear che si concluderà il 12 Marzo 2017. Non si tratterà di un semplice excursus sull'evoluzione e sulla storia dei capi intimi, ma di una analisi del rapporto che essi hanno con il mondo della moda e con la sessualità, prendendo in esame le forme del corpo ritenute perfette, la relazione tra underwear e outerwear e il modo in cui il taglio, la vestibilità e le decorazioni possono mostrare moralità o immoralità. Saranno esposti più di 200 capi intimi, per uomo e donna, tra corsetti, crinoline, boxer, reggiseni, calze e lingerie accanto a fotografie, pubblicità e packaging. Tra i capi da non perdere l'intimo indossato dalla madre della regina Vittoria, la cintura da uomo del 1842 usata in occasione dei matrimoni, le calze di Mary Quant del 1960, un abito trasparente creato da Liza Bruce e indossato da Kate Moss e i leggings color carne con una foglia di fico a coprire le parti intime realizzati da Vivienne Westwood. ■ The Victoria & Albert Museum “undresses” to show what is hidden under clothes. On 16th April 2016 the exhibition Undressed: A Brief History of Underwear will be opened to end on 12th March 2017. It is not intended as a mere excursus on the evolution and history of underwear, but as an analysis of the relationship these pieces of clothing have with the fashion world and sexuality, looking at the body shapes considered as perfect, the relationship between underwear and outerwear and the way in which the cutting, wearability and decorations can show morality and immorality. Over 200 pieces of female and male underwear will be on display among corsets, crinolines, boxer shorts, bras, stockings and lingerie along with pictures, advertisements and packaging. Among the pieces of clothing not to be missed we find the underwear worn by queen Victoria, the 1842 male belt used at weddings, the 1960 stockings by Mary Quant, a transparent dress designed by Liza Bruce and worn by Kate Moss and the nude look leggings with a fig leaf covering the private parts realised by Vivienne Westwood.

Il mondo del jewellery design, fino a qualche decennio fa prettamente maschile per motivi socioculturali, si è progressivamente arricchito della presenza di donne designer. In passato infatti solo gli uomini erano in grado di fondare un'azienda dedicata alla produzione di gioielli; adesso anche le donne diventano manager e disegnano per le donne, cercando di interpretarne i gusti anche in base ai propri. In questo servizio presentiamo alcuni dei nomi più significativi di due generazioni di creatività tutta al femminile, tra volti noti e nuovi talenti. Ad accomunare queste designer è la stessa passione per l'arte e il design a cui va aggiunto il patrimonio culturale coltivato personalmente o ereditato dalle famiglie e quello acquisito durante i viaggi in giro per il mondo. Due generazioni che, nonostante i punti in comune, creano gioielli dagli stili più diversi, passando dal classico e tradizionale di alcune al minimalismo punk di altre, fino ad arrivare ai pezzi più ludici e provocatori.

■ The world of jewellery design, until a few decades ago a strictly male preserve for social and cultural reasons, has been progressively enriched by the presence of female designers. In the past, in fact, only men were able to set up companies dedicated to making jewels; today, women too become managers and design for women, trying to interpret their tastes on the basis of their own as well. In this report, we present some of the most significant names of two generations of wholly female creativity, speaking both of well-known and new talents. These designers all share the same passion for art and design, but add to this the culture they have acquired personally or inherited from their families, as well as what they have picked up during their travels around the world.

Two generations which, despite what they have in common, create jewels in different styles, ranging from the classic and traditional of some to the punk minimalism of others, all the way to the most playful or provocative jewels.

the brain hidden behind the brand Édéenne (a name chosen for its assonance with the Eden) reflect and enhance the beauty of every woman, whether she is a modern Cinderella with a pumpkin-shaped ring or an eternal romantic with a handpiece studded with shining butterflies. The designer's original scientific education allows her to understand physical phenomena and to create the perfect combination between metals and gems, while her sensitivity allows her to tune in to other people. And finally, gemmology and jewellery courses completed her specific knowledge.The creative process of Édéenne, therefore, is based on the study of light refraction and on the analysis of the various matches of colours and materials considering the personality of each customer. This passion, and the consistent care for every single detail, allowed Édéenne to conquer the elite customers she meets on appointment in her Paris boutique located in Rue de la Paix, near Place Vendôme.

From the Fendi women she inherited the love for theatre and the passion for jewels, art and architecture as well as a talent for public relations. Today, even thanks to this heritage, she boasts her own brand, a boutique in London and her presence in the permanent collection of the Musée des Arts Décoratifs of Paris, located in the Marsan area of the Louvre. Wearing one of her jewels is like a travel in the Surrealism of the Twenties, between mouths and eyes hanging on gold and silver threads. Conversation pieces worthy of the Avantgarde movements of the early 20th century, characterised by the combination of precious stones, pearls and black diamonds with iron, copper, marble, ceramic and resin, always manufactured according to traditional Italian goldsmithery techniques that tie the past to a design projecting towards the future.

La carriera di Jade Chíu inizia nella Silicon Valley con una laurea in new graphic design e una carriera successiva interamente svolta online. Presto comprende il suo grande amore per la moda e decide di frequentare il corso in Fashion and Accessories design al FIT and Parsons School of Design a New York. Nella Grande Mela collaborerà con Anna Sui, L.A.M.B., Diane von Fürstenberg e Baby Phat e creerà la sua linea di gioielli attingendo al proprio background artistico/grafico.

La passione e la tenacia portano Jade Chíu e i suoi gioielli dagli Stati Uniti a tutto il mondo, con tappe anche alla Milano Fashion Week 2015. I suoi gioielli non conquistano però solo le passerelle ma anche le star, tra le quali Madonna e Skylar Grey, e le riviste, come Vogue Italia (che ha definito la designer una tra le sedici migliori del settore) e i-D. Un successo dettato dalla particolarità delle creazioni, che assumono forme stravaganti ispirate alla cultura asiatica e all'amore nei confronti della natura. Dalla passione di Jade Chíu per lo zodiaco nasce inoltre la collezione Fusion Lovers in cui si combinano pelle, catene e cristalli nelle forme dei dodici segni zodiacali. Natura e astrologia che influenzeranno anche le sue collezioni future.

Soon, she understands her great love for fashion and decides to attend the Fashion and Accessories design course at the FIT and Parsons School of Design in New York. In the Big Apple, she will work with Anna Sui, L.A.M.B, Diane von Fürstenberg and Baby Phat and will create her jewellery line drawing on her art/graphic background.

Passion and perseverance bring Jade Chíu and her jewels from the United States to the rest of the world, including an appearance to the 2015 Milan Fashion Week. Her jewels do not reach fashion shows only, but also stars, including Madonna and Skylar Grey, and magazines like Vogue Italia (who defined the stylist one of the best sixteen in her field) and i-D. A success dictated by the peculiarity of her creations, which assume extravagant shapes inspired

by Asian culture and by the love for the nature. Moreover, her passion for zodiac has inspired the Fusion Lovers collection, where leather matches chains and crystals in the shapes of the twelve zodiac signs. Nature and astrology will also influence her future collections.

Anna Maga Visconti

surrounded by figures like the Pomodoro sculptor brothers, Giò and Arnaldo. A desire for search and novelties led her to travel around the world, from London to New York passing through India, Thailand and Nepal and finally arriving in Brazil, the country that inspired her subsequent designs. Once back in Italy, she attended the Italian Gemmology Institute and the IED, graduating in Jewellery Design. She started designing for well-known brands like Maison Versace, and then in 2011 she decided to create something under her name. Two years later, Beijaflor was released, the first collection signed Anna Maga Visconti, characterised by elements like the triangle, associated with primeval unity, the circle, symbol of perfection and union, and salt, bearer of energy and positivity.

Contaminati dai viaggi in giro per il mondo, dal background culturale e dagli studi nel campo della gemmologia, i gioielli di Anna Maga Visconti sono carichi di simbolismo e suggestione. Nata a Milano, è cresciuta in un ambiente artistico, circondata da personaggi come i fratelli scultori Giò e Arnaldo Pomodoro. Il desiderio di ricerca e novità l'ha portata a viaggiare in giro per il mondo, da Londra a New York, passando per India, Thailandia e Nepal, fino ad arrivare al Brasile che ha ispirato i suoi successivi progetti. Tornata in Italia, Anna ha frequentato l'Istituto Gemmologico Italiano e lo IED, laureandosi in Design del Gioiello. Ha iniziato quindi a disegnare per marchi già affermati come la Maison Versace, per poi decidere nel 2011 di creare qualcosa con il proprio nome. Nasce, due anni dopo, Beijaflor, la prima collezione firmata Anna Maga Visconti, caratterizzata da elementi come il triangolo, legato al ritorno all'unità primordiale, il cerchio, simbolo di perfezione e unione, e il sale, portatore di energia e positività.

Kara Ross Cresciuta in Pennsylvania, Kara Ross ha mostrato il proprio talento per i gioielli sin da quando, all'età di tredici anni, ha disegnato il suo primo pezzo partendo da una tormalina acquistata durante un safari in Africa. In seguito, dopo aver frequentato la Agnes Irwin School insieme con la fashion designer Tory Burch (con cui è rimasta amica) e aver lavorato da Ann Taylor, si è laureata all'università di Georgetown e si è spostata a New York per seguire la campagna vendite di Harper's Bazaar. Diventata in seguito gemmologa certificata, ha iniziato a disegnare la propria linea di gioielli creando pezzi unici.

Pochi modelli sono diventati in breve una collezione completa con il lancio del proprio marchio Kara Ross New York e il debutto da Bergdorf Goodman. La particolarità dei suoi gioielli sta nella fusione dei tradizionali oro, platino e diamanti con materiali organici come l'ebano, l'acero e le pietre dure. Contaminazione che si ritrova anche nella sua linea di borse gioiello con fibbie arricchite da gemme. Tra le sue clienti si contano Anne Hathaway, Kate Hudson, Alicia Keys, Demi Moore, Oprah Winfrey e la first lady Michelle Obama. Quest’ultima le ha chiesto di creare un'esclusiva linea di gioielli utilizzando il legno di un albero di magnolia della Casa Bianca: una capsule collection da regalare ai capi di stato in visita e ai membri femminili dello staff.

■ Kara Ross grew in Pennsylvania and showed her passion for jewels since, at the age of thirteen, she designed her first piece starting from a tourmaline purchased during a safari in Africa. Later on, after having attended the Agnes Irwin School together with Tory Burch (and they remained friends) and having worked for Ann Taylor, she graduated at the Georgetown University and moved to New York to follow the sale campaign of Harper’s Bazaar. Afterwards, she became a certified gemmologist and started designing her own jewellery line, creating unique pieces. A few models soon became a complete collection, with the launch of the Kara Ross New York brand and the debut at Bergdorf Goodman. The peculiarity of her jewels lies in the combination of traditional - gold, silver and diamonds - and organic materials, like ebony and maple. This contamination is also found in her line of jewel bags, with gem-enriched buckles. Her customers include Anne Hathaway, Kate Hudson, Alicia Keys, Demi Moore, Oprah Winfrey and the First Lady Michelle Obama. The latter asked her to create an exclusive jewellery line using the wood of a magnolia tree of the White House: a capsule collection, to be presented to visiting heads of state and to female staff members.

Solange Azagury-Partridge La carriera di Solange Azagury-Partridge inizia nell’atelier del gioielliere britannico Nicky Butler e prosegue poi dal rivenditore di arti decorative Gordon Watson dove la designer scopre i grandi pezzi della gioielleria del ventesimo secolo. Da quel momento la sua passione per i gioielli cresce fino al momento in cui, nel 1987, decide di creare il proprio anello di fidanzamento, una fascia in oro con un diamante grezzo. Solo tre anni dopo fonda il suo brand e nel 1995 apre il primo negozio a Londra, nel famoso quartiere di Notting Hill. I gioielli che Solange realizza assumono un aspetto a cavallo tra la pop art e l’esoterismo dei talismani e si caratterizzano per l'utilizzo degli smalti e delle gemme che li caricano di colore e fantasia. Il talento dimostrato la porta nel 2001 a essere contattata da Tom Ford per ricoprire il ruolo di Direttore Creativo di Boucheron, lo storico marchio francese di gioielli, dove resta fino al 2004. Le sue creazioni per Boucheron fanno oggi parte della collezione permanente del Musée des Arts Décoratifs a Parigi e del Victoria & Albert Museum a Londra.

■ Solange Azagury-Partridge career starts in the atelier of the British jeweller Nicky Butler and then continues with Gordon Watson, the decorative arts dealer, where she discovers the great pieces of the 20th century jewellery.

Henceforth, her passion for jewellery grows until, in 1987, she decided to create her own engagement ring, a gold band with a raw diamond. Only three years later, she starts her own company and, in 1995, she opens her first shop in London, in the famous Notting Hill district. The jewels made

by Solange assume a look that bridges the pop art and the esoterism of talismans, and are characterised by the use of enamels and gems that load them with colour and fantasy.

In 2001, her proven talent leads Tom Ford to contact her to assume the role of Creative Manager for Boucheron, the historical French jewellery brand, a position she maintained until 2004. Her creations for Boucheron are now part of the permanent collections of the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris and of the Victoria & Albert Museum in London.

Luna Scamuzzi Milano è la sua sede operativa e proprio dal primo gioielliere milanese del Medioevo prende il nome il suo marchio Lucifer Vir Honestus. La passione di Luna Francesca Scamuzzi per la gioielleria è nata ai tempi dell'università, quando il marito, ai tempi fidanzato e collega di architettura, le disegnava i gioielli su misura e li faceva realizzare da un artigiano orafo.

La curiosità per questo mondo l'ha portata a cimentarsi nella creazione di monili trasformando una passione in una professione con la fondazione del suo brand nel 1998. La realizzazione dei suoi gioielli avviene utilizzando la cera.

Lei infatti la scolpisce creando bracciali, collane, orecchini e anelli (che rimangono i suoi preferiti) e in seguito riveste le creazioni con l'oro, facendo fondere la cera interna.

Alla fine del processo ogni suo gioiello viene arricchito da particolari preziosi come diamanti, zaffiri o perle barocche che rispecchiano il suo mondo onirico e fantastico.

■ Milan is her operational headquarters and her brand, Lucifer Vir Honestus, is named after the first Middle Age Milanese jeweller. Luna Francesca Scamuzzi's love for jewellery originated in her university days, when her husband - at that time her boyfriend and architecture colleague designed custom jewels for her and had them manufactured by a goldsmith. Curiosity for this world leads her to attempt creating jewels, turning a passion into a profession with the foundation of her brand in 1998. Her jewels are made using wax. In fact, she sculpts it in wax creating bracelets, necklaces, earrings and rings (which remain her favourites) and then coats her creations with gold making the wax melt.

At the end of the process, every one of her jewels is enriched with precious details, such as diamonds, sapphires or baroque pearls, which reflect her dreamlike and fantastic world.

Maria Vittoria Paolillo Cresciuta in una famiglia di gioiellieri per tradizione, fin da piccola Maria Vittoria Paolillo ha avuto la possibilità di toccare e osservare da vicino pietre e metalli preziosi. Da grande ha poi potuto acquisire conoscenze più approfondite grazie agli studi in gemmologia. Creando il proprio marchio MVP ha però voluto svincolarsi dall'attività di famiglia per confrontarsi con materiali differenti e dedicarsi alla ricerca e sperimentazione nel campo del design. Il risultato dei suoi studi e della sua esperienza sono volumi leggeri e immagini lineari, come nell'ultima collezione in cui ripropone l'elemento geometrico. I materiali che utilizza sono lavorati dai maestri orafi come se fossero filamenti di un tessuto prezioso che si intrecciano in linee rette o sinuose giocando con superfici piene e vuote. La lavorazione crea così una specie di gabbia gioiello che viene impreziosita dall'inserimento di perle e smalti dalle tonalità marine vivaci che esaltano l'aspetto dinamico e futurista dei gioielli MVP. ■ Being raised in a family of jewellers, Maria Vittoria Paolillo has had the possibility of touching and closely observing precious stones and metals since her childhood.

Once she grew up, she was able to acquire in-depth knowledge thanks to her gemmology studies. By creating her own MVP brand, however, she decided to free herself from the family business to tackle with different materials and to dedicate herself to research and experimentation in the field of design. The results of her studies and experience are light volumes and linear images, like in her last collection, where she revives the geometrical element. The materials she uses are worked by master goldsmiths as if they were threads of a precious fabric intersecting in straight or twisting lines, playing with filled and empty surfaces. In this way, the manufacturing almost creates a jewel cage, enriched by the addition of pearls and enamels with bright marine hues that highlight the dynamic and futurist look of MVP jewels.

Kimberly McDonald is representative of her passion for jewels, for stones with peculiar colours and for the combination of raw and worked materials. All these aspects come together in the jewellery line named after her.

Creation, not destruction is the basis of her creative process; Kimberly McDonald, in fact, respects nature through the recycle of materials like gold and diamonds already previously used, according to a sustainability principle and leaving the natural aspect of each material, without too many artifices, to speak for itself. Every single piece she creates is conceived to tell a story and to create links between the jewel, the customer and the designer herself. Many stars appreciated her jewels and wore one, from Joan Burstein and Cindy Crawford to Cameron Diaz. Even the U.S. First Lady wore a Kimberly McDonald piece at the Second Inaugural Ball: a jewel that now is on display at the Smithsonian National Museum of American History.

Lydia Courteille The ties with these two names immediately reveal the unconventional and aesthetically revolutionary character of her jewels. History and myth are inexhaustible sources of ideas for her: in fact, she draws information from esoteric rites, from Middle Age bestiaries, from preColumbian gardens, from Napoleonic cameos and from the Greek-Roman mythology as well. In addition to history, her travels across the world, from Asia to South America, allowed her to be exposed to the cultures, customs and colours of those lands. A kaleidoscope of places and ages that materializes in jewels far removed from minimalism. Il legame con questi due nomi fa subito capire il carattere non convenzionale ed esteticamente rivoluzionario dei suoi gioielli. La storia e il mito sono per lei fonti inesauribili di idee e infatti ha attinto informazioni dai riti esoterici, dai bestiari medievali, dai giardini precolombiani e dai cammei napoleonici nonché dalla mitologia greco-romana. È stato proprio l'elemento marino a suggerirle, nel 2012, il tema della Sirena come motivo centrale di una collezione che a tutt'oggi continua a riscuotere grande successo a livello internazionale. La collezione "Le Sirene" comprende i ciondoli originali in cui coda e busto delle creature marine si possono facilmente sostituire con altri di diverso colore e finitura, grazie a un procedimento brevettato, e bracciali rigidi in bronzo placcato oro e smaltati. It was the sea which suggested to her, in 2012, the theme of the Mermaid as the central motif of a collection which still today continues to enjoy great international success. The “Mermaid” collection includes original pendants where tail and bust of the sea creatures can easily be replaced by others with different colour and finish, thanks to a patented procedure, and gold plated and glazed bronze bracelets. Other water creatures – the sea horse, a little crab, a mermaid, a jellyfish and a sea star – animate the lively coloured bracelets of the “What mood are you in?” line. The little animals – each of which is associated with a different mood – have been made of white, yellow and pink plated bronze.

■ All products manufactured by Keep Out, a young company based in Casale Monferrato, take its origin from a tradition of Latin America: in fact, it is told that once grandmothers gave their daughters and granddaughters who were about to leave the family house a small thimble, as a protection against everything that could hurt them in the course of their life.

The thimble was then passed down through generations.

Therefore, a few years ago a team of industry experts created a collection of good luck jewels fully based on the thimble theme. Bracelets, necklaces, rings and earrings are made in silver, plated silver chromatically treated and sometimes combined with leather, handmade in Italy: jewels to wear, give, preserve as a homage to a tradition or as a sign of protection and affection for a beloved one.

■ Spoleto Gioielli was founded over ten years ago by Enrico Morbidoni, a reputed gemmologist, designer and great lover of the best Italian goldsmith tradition. Each jewel is entirely hand made and is the result of the great passion and experience of Enrico Morbidoni that personally selects the precious or semiprecious gems (characterised by an unusual shape and size) more suitable to his creations, unique items or small series, resulting in extremely refined jewels which evidence a definite originality and modern design. They are innovative both on the aesthetic point of view and for their technical solutions, sometimes based on patented systems allowing to create modular or customised jewels in the most surprising and creative ways. It is not by chance that the creations of this beautiful company from Umbria are more and more appreciated also by international markets.

■ For ten years Tererò, based at the Goldsmith Centre “Il Tarì” in Marcianise, has been manufacturing jewels made of sterling silver that are entirely conceived and produced in Italy.
