The selection process for proposals begins in January.

The Department of Theatre Arts creates live theatre to engage an audience and illuminate the human condition. Absurd Person Singular by Alan Ayckbourn Documents the changing fortunes of three married couples. Each of three acts takes place at a Christmas celebration at one of the couples’ homes on successive Christmas Eves. Love’s Labor’s Lost by William Shakespeare The King and three noble companions take an oath to devote themselves to three years of study without giving in to women—then all fall comically in love with the princess and her ladies. Urinetown by Mark Hallmannby Satirizes the legal system, capitalism, social irresponsibility, populism, bureaucracy, corporate mismanagement, and municipal politics—and parodizes other musicals.

Small classes afford ample opportunity for student development and mentoring by the professor. Faculty are practicing professionals within their specialization as well as engaged, committed educators. Art Department learning also extends into the community. Madison is a hub for art and culture creating a lively backdrop and easy access for student discovery. The Art Department integrates field experience, internships, community-based initiatives, and faculty-led international travel into the curriculum.
