It is my absolute pleasure to be the first to welcome you to our beloved home and school. As a proud 1990 graduate of Edgewood High School, I cannot fully express the pride I feel in beginning this new chapter as Superintendent and returning home to lead our Bulldogs into a bright future.
Edgewood ISD has always stood at the forefront of student achievement and success. As we begin this new school year together, my ultimate goal is not only to continue that legacy but to strengthen and expand it in every way possible.
We want to become the undisputed best student centered small school district in the state. We are beginning the process of transforming the “unprecedented” into the norm. We are working to awaken once distant, bold goals and bring them to life, ensuring that every Edgewood student receives an experience that is rich, meaningful, and lasting. Our mission is to “max out” the experience for every Edgewood student.
I know these goals may sound a bit far reaching, but my career is full of experiences that confirm, what I already know, that our pride in the purple and gold is powerful. I believe our wildest dreams are just beyond the obstacles we place in front of them ourselves. We will succeed. Our students will have the kind of experience that, like it did for me and so many others, stays with them for a lifetime and makes being an Edgewood Bulldog a truly special part of their lives.

WINNING WITH WIN!
What I Need... Providing each student what they need to be successful.
Goal 1 of the Edgewood ISD Strategic Plan is Excellence for all students.
Edgewood ISD is committed to helping every student reach their full potential by providing a personalized approach to learning. One key element of this approach is the inclusion of a dedicated WIN period in campus schedules. WIN stands for "What I Need" and gives students the opportunity to receive the support, reinforcement, or enrichment they need when they need it. This time is intentionally structured and thoughtfully planned as part of each school day.
During WIN, students work toward personalized learning goals using one of the district’s many web based programs aligned with grade level or above grade level standards. The focus is on mastering concepts, reinforcing skills, and extending learning. WIN also encourages students to apply their newly acquired skills to real world problems and areas of interest, promoting deeper understanding and engagement. Additionally, WIN time allows students to be pulled for supplemental services such as RTI for reading and math, speech, GT, dyslexia, and ESL with minimal disruption to core instructional time.
Because WIN time is tailored to meet students' individual needs, its structure may vary by grade level and campus. Across all four campuses, however, it serves as a valuable opportunity to build school culture, provide academic support, deliver Social Emotional Learning (SEL) lessons and activities, and offer individual or small group counseling. At the middle school and high school levels, WIN time also supports college and career exploration, giving students time and access to school resources to research their future options.

I am truly honored to serve as the new Edgewood Elementary Principal. The warm, family-oriented atmosphere that Mrs. Jones and the staff have cultivated is inspiring and reflects a strong commitment to student growth. I am eager to build upon the solid foundation of student success that has already been established and look forward to collaborating with everyone to achieve even greater accomplishments.
Before joining the Edgewood family, I served as the principal of Ellis Elementary in Community ISD. My experience also includes working as an elementary assistant principal in CarrolltonFarmers Branch and as an instructional math specialist and teacher in Lubbock ISD in Lubbock, Texas. My teaching background encompasses kindergarten, first grade, second grade math, and fourth grade math. I am passionate about fostering relationships with teachers, students, and families, as I believe that these connections are vital for student success. Together, we can create an enriching environment where every child thrives.

I am truly honored and excited to join such a wonderful district as Edgewood ISD. After speaking with Mrs. Cassell, I quickly realized that I am stepping onto a campus that operates like a well-oiled machine. I am coming from Martin's Mill ISD, where I served as the High School and Middle School Principal. Over the course of my 32 years in public education, I have had the privilege of serving students and communities across Texas as a Teacher, Coach, Athletic Director, and Principal. My journey in school leadership began in Granbury ISD, where I held my first administrative role as the Assistant Principal at Oakwoods Intermediate School.
My family, which includes my wife Kristin, our three children Meagan, Matt, and Colby, and our granddaughter Ivy, are very excited about the opportunity to become part of the Edgewood community. We are all looking forward to building meaningful relationships and becoming actively involved in the life of this wonderful community.

With 19 years of experience in education, 14 of those proudly spent in Edgewood, I have had the privilege of serving the last 9 years as Principal of Edgewood Middle School. My teaching background spans a wide range of subjects, including Middle School Science, High School Chemistry, IPC, Biology, Anatomy and Physiology, and College Biology for TVCC.
I am deeply passionate about both learning and teaching, especially at the Middle School level. I truly enjoy building meaningful relationships with students and strive to understand the unique developmental stages they are navigating. This understanding allows me to lead with empathy and offer the support students need to thrive.
At Edgewood Middle School, my goal is to make sure every student feels valued, supported, and empowered to succeed. I believe in leading by serving others and creating a positive environment where students can thrive. By working closely with teachers, families, and the community, we aim to build strong relationships and open lines of communication that put students first. Together, we’re creating a school where every student has the tools, encouragement, and opportunities they need to grow and reach their full potential.

I have proudly served as the High School Principal at Edgewood ISD for the past three years. My background includes 12 years of experience in secondary administration and 15 years as a teacher, department head, and coach. These roles have shaped my passion for education and my commitment to student success.
My core philosophy is simple: relationships are everything. I believe that if you don’t take the time to build a positive relationship with the people you encounter - students, staff, or community - you are already at a disadvantage. I firmly believe that all students can learn when the right relationships are in place. Mutual respect, strong moral values, and a genuine care for students lay the foundation for success.

One device for each student helps to incorporate technology in the classroom.
It is the mission of Edgewood Independent School District to create an environment to allow our students to be future ready learners in a technology driven society by providing the tools they need to accomplish this task. Therefore, Edgewood ISD has been a 1:1 district since 2020.
The 1:1 initiative looks a little different on each campus.
Elementary: 1 cart per classroom for use in that classroom
Intermediate: 1 chromebook per student picked up in the morning and returned in the afternoon.
Middle School and High School: 1 device per student that is his/her responsibility for the entire school year.
The Device Agreement must be signed yearly and explains proper care and fines for damages.
In accordance to the Children’s Internet Protection Act (CIPA), Edgewood ISD provides filtering technology on all student devices. For the chromebooks, the same policies applied during the day at school are also in place on the devices when at home.
DISTRICT ISSUED DEVICE: Maintained by Edgewood ISD.

Devices are provided at no cost to families, aligning with educational funding regulations.

COLLEGE, CAREER, AND MILITARY
READINESS
Goal 2 of the Edgewood ISD Strategic Plan is Students prepared for life beyond Edgewood ISD.
Edgewood ISD offers 10 Career and Technical Education pathways, including Food Science, Animal Science, Plant Science, Agricultural Technology, Graphic Design, Business Management, Teaching and Training, Health Science, Law Enforcement, and Fire Science.
Each pathway includes an industry-based certification to support students entering the workforce in that field. Every Edgewood High School student will complete at least one pathway, and the goal is for each student to also earn the related certification. Students may complete multiple pathways and certifications as their schedule allows.
Edgewood ISD partners with Trinity Valley Community College to offer Dual Credit opportunities tailored to student goals. Whether taking a few classes to get started, becoming core complete, or working toward an associate degree, students have flexible options. EISD supports this by covering the cost of two college courses per semester for eligible juniors and seniors who meet admission requirements.
We also offer a Dual Credit and CTE partnership with Kilgore College through the Fire Science and EMT Program. Students can complete the Fire Academy, begin EMT training, and earn college credit while still in high school. To reinforce commitment to the program, families are required to pay a 25% deposit upfront, while EISD covers the remaining 75% of the cost.
EISD supports college readiness by offering the SAT and ACT during the school day. The district covers the cost for each 11th and 12th grade student to take one SAT and one ACT per year. We also pay for 8th and 9th grade students to take the PSAT, and for 10th and 11th grade students to take the PSAT/NMSQT. These assessments give students practice and help identify areas of strength and growth.
To help students prepare for college and meet college readiness, all students take the TSIA 2.0. Those who do not pass or qualify for an exemption are required to take remedial courses in college. To prepare students for college, EISD is adding the Texas College Bridge curriculum to senior-level Math and English classes for students who still need to meet TSIA 2.0 standards. Students who complete the program can use it to satisfy TSIA 2.0 requirements at participating Texas colleges if they enroll within one year of completion.
A LOOK AT OUR SECURITY MEASURES
Edgewood ISD currently employees two full time Police Officers: Mr. Jason Groom, Chief of Police, and Mr. Tim Scharfenberg, Police Officer.
Additionally Mr. Phillip Clay is a Law Enforcement Teacher and part time Police Officer.

Edgewood ISD uses STOPit, an online and app-based system, to empower students, parents, teachers, and others to anonymously report anything of concern to school officials - from cyber-bullying to threats of violence or self-harm. During the 2022-2023 school year, the Edgewood ISD Board of Trustees voted to implement the Guardian Program in the district.
The Guardian Program allows hand picked staff members to carry a weapon on campus. Armed staff provide self defense prior to the arrival of Law Enforcement in the event of an active shooter on campus.
Staff members undergo rigorous training by a licensed instructor that include live fire qualification, simulation training, and classroom instruction.
Visitors are defined as: anyone other than an EISD staff member who wishes to enter a campus building during normal hours of operation during the school year.
Preparation is key. To ensure a secure environment, all visitors must schedule appointments through the campus office before arriving.
Visitor Check-In:
All visitors must first check in at the Administration Building with a state-issued ID. IDs are scanned through Raptor, our visitor management system.
Approved visitors receive a photo ID badge, worn on the top left corner of their shirt. The campus will be notified of your visit before you are allowed entry. Upon arrival at the campus, staff will verify your identity and visitor badge.
Campus Entry Protocol:
All visitors must state:
1. Full name
2. Purpose of visit
3. Show visitor badge
4. No badge? You'll be redirected to the Administration Building.
Dropping Off Items:
Visitors will not need a badge to drop off items since they will not need to enter the the building.
Ring the buzzer.
Use the drop box for lunches, backpacks, or other items.
Dropping Off Students:
PK-5 students arriving after 7:55 AM must be walked to the door and buzzed in.
Grades 6-12 may buzz themselves in and report to the office.
Early Student Pick-Up:
If a student is needed before 2:50 PM
Ring the buzzer, present ID, and wait at the door for staff to bring your child.
After 2:50 PM: Pick-up changes may not be possible due to time and staffing constraints.
For our emergency plans to work effectively, we rely on the support of local emergency services and our parents. Your cooperation is essential to keeping students and staff safe.
What Parents Should Do:
Stay informed. In an emergency, updates will be posted every 15 minutes on Facebook and the Edgewood ISD app. Make sure your contact info is current to receive emergency alerts. Talk to your children. Encourage them to follow directions from teachers and staff. Report concerns. Use the StopIT app to report suspicious or unsafe situations anonymously.
What Parents Should Not Do:
Do not come to the school unless instructed. Emergency crews may need access to roads and parking.
Do not call the school. Phone lines must remain open for emergency use. Do not spread unverified information on social media. Misinformation can create confusion and risks.

Edgewood ISD offers several ways for parents, students, staff, and the community to stay connected.
One of the most important ways Edgewood ISD stays connected with families is through Parent Portal, a powerful online tool that gives you direct access to your student’s academic progress throughout the school year.
As a new parent, you will receive an email with your student’s unique Parent Portal ID. Once you have this ID, you can link it to your student’s profile and begin monitoring key areas such as grades, attendance, and important updates.

Progress Reports and Report Cards for students in grades 6 through 12 are distributed only through Parent Portal, paper copies are not sent home.

WHEELS IN MOTION:
A quick look at Transportation.
The Edgewood ISD Transportation Department is dedicated to providing safe, efficient, and courteous transportation for all students who are eligible for this service.
Transportation to and from school is a privilege offered by Edgewood ISD. It is not mandated by state or federal law. While the State of Texas funds transportation for students who live two or more miles from their assigned campus, EISD goes beyond this requirement by offering transportation to many students regardless of distance.
In cases where multiple buses serve the same area, the Director of Transportation will determine bus assignments based on student addresses.
Please be aware that, in accordance with the Edgewood ISD Student Code of Conduct, students may be removed from the bus for behavior violations.
Due to limited space and ongoing construction across Edgewood ISD campuses, car rider dropoff and pick-up areas are often congested. To help families navigate these busy times, the district has created helpful videos demonstrating the correct drop-off and pick-up procedures for each campus.

Student Parking Information
All bus riders are required to complete a transportation request form each school year. This information helps ensure student safety and allows the district to keep accurate records of who is riding each bus.

High School students who drive to school must have a valid parking pass assigned by the High School office. To receive a parking pass, students must provide the following:
A valid driver’s license
Proof of current auto insurance
A $15.00 payment
Passes are required for all student drivers and must be visible when parked on campus.
