Allen Waddell and Robbie Rhodes first met as college students in 2007, working together on football radio broadcasts for Southeastern Louisiana University. What began as a college connection grew into a lasting friendship and eventually a successful business partnership. As Insight Insurance celebrates its 10-year anniversary, Robbie and Allen reflect on their journey from a single cubicle to being part of a threebranch insurance agency with more than 4,400 customers In 2016, Robbie worked for an insurance firm when he had the opportunity to open his own agency. Taking the opportunity would have required moving his family from Louisiana to another state. Unsure of what to do, he called Allen for advice. That conversation led to an opportunity for Robbie right here at home. Around that Same time, Allen's college roommate, Justin Morgan, and his business partner, Cory Chandler, opened an independent agency called Insight Insurance in Alexandria. Justin reached out to see if Allen was interested in getting into the insurance business in South Louisiana. Allen already knew exactly who he wanted to bring into the conversation. “I have just your guy,” he told Justin.

When Allen’s father, Gregg, asked what the initial investment would cost, Robbie replied, “Mr. Gregg, all I need is a laptop.” On January 2, 2017, Robbie, Allen, and their new laptop began the venture with Insight Insurance in Ponchatoula without a single customer. Within three years, the agency had surpassed $1 million in its book of business. Allen works behind the scenes, helping with business operations and finance, while Robbie’s marketing, customer service and insurance expertise have helped drive the agency’s growth. Their different strengths complement one another and have helped create a successful partnership. Today, Insight has offices in Alexandria and Ponchatoula, along with its newest location in Slidell. The Slidell expansion came through the acquisition of the book of business from All Phase Insurance. Insight offers personal and commercial coverage, including but not limited to auto, flood, homeowners, business property, general liability, and workers’ compensation.

Insight Insurance is licensed to insure in Louisiana and Mississippi. Find out more on their website insighthelps.com.

“If you have something to be covered, we can find a place for it,” Robbie said. For the group, having access to so many carriers is about giving customers choices. If an auto insurance renewal suddenly increases, for example, Insight can search its network for another option rather than simply accepting the higher price. The agency serves a diverse group of customers, including car dealerships, churches, golf courses, restaurants, HVAC companies, condominium associations, gyms and government entities. Much of its growth has come through word-of-mouth referrals, built on a simple philosophy:

Do a good job, earn people’s trust, and let those relationships grow. As Insight celebrates its 10th anniversary and opens its new Slidell office, Robbie and Allen are looking ahead to the next chapter. What started as a conversation between two college friends has grown into an agency serving thousands of customers across South Louisiana. They are proud of that growth, but the relationships behind it matter most. As they continue to expand, they remain committed to maintaining the level of service that has been central to the agency’s success.

PONCHATOULA CELEBRATES PONCHATOULA CELEBRATES

VETERANS

DOWNTOWN PONCHATOULA

Written by Hannelore Noahson

Ponchatoula is gearing up for its 2nd annual celebration honoring veterans, and this year’s event promises to be bigger and better than ever. The official name is “Ponchatoula Celebrates Veterans,” and according to event organizer Parish Councilwoman Strader Dufreche Cieutat, “this is for all veterans of Tangipahoa Parish and beyond.” Veterans from neighboring parishes like Livingston and St. Tammany are also invited to join in the festivities, making it a truly regional salute to service. 14| ||TangiLifestyles.com TangiLifestyles.com TangiLifestyles.com 1414

On October 31st, the big day kicks off in downtown Ponchatoula with the parade passing through Main Street at 9:30 a.m. “Just like last year, we’re going to roll down Main Street, turn on Sixth Street, and head into Memorial Park,” Cieutat explained. Once the parade wraps up, the celebration continues in Memorial Park starting at 11 a.m. There, attendees can enjoy a line-up that includes the national anthem, entertainment, a classic car show, and a variety of displays throughout the park. One of the highlights is the range of resources available to veterans and their families, ensuring that support goes hand in hand with celebration. As for entertainment, Cieutat shared, “We are excited to announce that both the Victory Belles and the United States Marine Corps Band will be there again this year”. The grand marshal for this year’s parade is Mr. Will E. Davis, a Vietnam veteran from Hammond who has lived in Tangipahoa Parish his entire life.“We’re super excited to have him lead our parade this year and be our grand marshal,” said Cieutat.

We are excited to announce the Victory Belles again this year.” The parade itself is unique with the participants being veterans and veteran-owned businesses. Cieutat emphasized, “We’re asking the public when they come out to understand that they are coming out to show their appreciation to our veterans, rather than expecting beads and candy.” Instead, parade-goers can expect small American flags and plenty of patriotic spirit. Reserved seating areas for veterans will be set up along the parade route, and there are opportunities to participate in the car show or to have a name displayed on the “honor wall.” There will also be flag raisings the morning of the event: Downtown Ponchatoula-the Ponchatoula MinuteMen will raise the large flag, and the American Legion Post #47 will raise the flags at the Ponchatoula Cemetery. For more information or to register for the parade, car show, or honor wall, visit Ponchatoula Celebrates Veterans on Facebook or contact Strader Cieutat directly at 985-355-0588 or district10@gmail.com. The parade registration deadline is October 15, 2026.

Retired Army Sgt. 1st Class Will Ernest Davis has served God and country for decades. This fall, he will serve as grand marshal for the annual veterans parade in Ponchatoula. Born in Ponchatoula, Davis moved to Hammond at a young age to live with his sister after his mother passed away. Now 91, he remains active at Hammond Emmanuel Seventh-day Adventist Church. One of his favorite hobbies is sending text messages that inspire, encourage, and remind people they are remembered. When asked whether he still keeps in touch with his fellow servicemen, Mr. Will replied, “Yes and no, ma’am. We went off to Vietnam—many of my friends never returned. But I began writing to a pen pal from Michigan, and we’ve been writing for over 65 years now.” After raising nine children, he and his wife Shirley now enjoy traveling together, making the most of their October/November 2026 | 15 timeshares and taking cruises.

At Center of Hope, small acts of kindness bring hope to every aisle.

Compassion on the Corner Written by Artie Johns | Photos by Lee Mason Center of Hope is more than just a resale shop—it’s a lifeline for the community. The retail store is now located in a newly opened 9,000-square-foot Community Resource Hub at 1713 Corbin in Hammond. Founded with the vision of Beth Elizabeth Lafarge, the store operates as a local nonprofit run by Center of Hope for Tangipahoa, and its mission is simple: Help anyone in need, no matter their circumstances From the outside, Center of Hope might look like a typical thrift store, but step inside and you’ll discover a place brimming with compassion and community spirit. The Anchor of Hope program is at the core of their work, connecting donations directly with people who need them most. Donations that aren’t immediately matched to a need are sold in the shop, and those funds go straight back to supporting individuals facing all kinds of crises.

"I call it little miracles every day. So they'll come in needing something specific, and it's like, okay, we will never see that item. And as they walk out, they're brushing shoulders with the person that has it in their hand. And that's an everyday thing. And I just, I'm grateful to be here, and I'm grateful to get to see that," says store manager, Cayla Lemons.

On a busy day, the shop sees up to 100 transactions, but the real work happens behind the scenes. Whether it’s helping a family who needs medical equipment after surgery, finding furniture for a veteran recovering at home, or providing clothes for a child who just arrived in foster care, Center of Hope is always ready to step in—even if that means opening the warehouse on a Sunday to meet a need. Their impact stretches across several parishes, with disaster recovery support in St. Helena and Tangipahoa, and ongoing aid to individuals in Livingston and Washington Parishes. The team works closely with local churches and organizations, ensuring that anyone who asks for help is connected to the right resources, even if that means referring them to another group better suited to a particular need.

20 | TangiLifestyles.com

Tiffany Cressionnie, the executive director, puts it

simply: "We help whomever God sends us, whoever

shows up, whatever they need. We'll try, and God

will provide for you. Because a lot of times I'm

shaking my head thinking, there's just no way; that is just too oddly specific, and then it appears."

The stories are endless—bathroom rugs making a new house feel like home, a wedding dress appearing just in time for a bride whose father battled cancer, or finding the perfect item for a child’s school spirit week. Each act of kindness is woven into the fabric of Center of Hope’s mission. In a world where red tape and bureaucracy often slow down assistance, the Anchor of Hope program stands out for its speed and personalization. There’s paperwork, sure, but it never gets in the way of compassion.

Brett & Tiffany Cressionnie

At Center of Hope, community isn’t just a buzzword—it’s a daily reality, built one small miracle at a time. The doors are open to anyone looking for a purposeful place to volunteer and donate goods, or to someone looking to decorate on a dime. Discover more by visiting the store at 1713 Corbin, Hammond, or at hopefortangi.org.

“Hootie and the Crawfish”

Beauty Lives Here

The Photography Journey of DeeDee Mahony Written by Hannalore Noahson | Photos by DeeDee Mahoney

DeeDee Mahony didn’t set out to become a nature photographer. Her journey began in the most unassuming way: by snapping photos in her backyard for her kids. With only her cell phone, she captured close-up shots of bugs so her children could see their intricate details up close. Through these photos, she discovered Louisiana’s world of hidden beauty. DeeDee’s passion for nature photography blossomed, and her curiosity took her beyond insects to birds, squirrels, raccoons, and rabbits. In 2021, her husband, Rusty, recognized her evolving passion and gifted DeeDee a Nikon camera. With her new camera, what began as a hobby grew into something much bigger.

October/November 2026 | 27

2026 is a year of major milestones for DeeDee. In February, she hosted her first exhibit at Twin Steeples in Ponchatoula, which is a significant achievement for any photographer. Later in the year, DeeDee entered the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries hard card contest and emerged as one of only four winners. Her winning photo, “Hootie and the Crawfish,” is now featured as one of the hard card options for hunting and fishing licenses in the state. DeeDee and Hootie were also featured in the July/August 2025 issue of Louisiana Life Magazine and will be included in the 2027 Louisiana State Parks calendar. Two of DeeDee’s pieces, including her favorite, a stunning image of a roseate spoonbill, debuted in the 19th Annual Louisiana Fine Arts Showcase. “Louisiana artists submit their work to be displayed in the home of the Southeastern Louisiana University president for a year, and a panel of judges from SLU's art department select pieces from those entries,” she explained. Despite all the recognition, she remains humble and continues to find joy in the simple act of being outdoors with her camera. “I love getting out in nature. There’s just something about being outside. I love taking pictures and discovering something that I didn’t know was here,” she says. Her Facebook page, Humble Heart Nature Photography, has become a place for DeeDee’s patrons to connect with her, browse her work, and purchase prints. Some images are available in select sizes, but DeeDee is happy to chat with anyone interested in something special. Fans may also visit her newly developed website at humbleheartphotos.com. For those looking for an afternoon art experience, should mark their calendars for October 17, 2026. DeeDee has been invited to display her art at The Big Easel in Lafayette, an annual outdoor fine art festival held in the River Ranch Town Square, where artist tents transform the square into a vibrant open-air gallery. Looking to the future, DeeDee doesn’t have grand plans beyond enjoying the ride. She’s content exploring Louisiana, always on the lookout for her next subject—her current bucket list animal is a coyote. “There’s beauty here, too, and I feel like that’s true for Louisiana. We’re so used to seeing things here that we just kind of look over them. But even the bird in the parking lot at Target can be beautiful.” Her story is proof that sometimes the most extraordinary things happen when you simply follow your curiosity and take a closer look at the world around you. When you stroll through the local farmers market on a Saturday morning, you’ll likely catch the inviting scent of freshly brewed espresso mingling with laughter and the earthy feel of handmade pottery. At the center of this vibrant scene is Denise Austin of True Brew Coffee—a woman whose story is as rich and layered as the cappuccinos she serves. Denise’s journey began with a love for coffee and a deep sense of community. After moving from New Orleans to Hammond post-Katrina, following the loss of her husband, Denise reinvented her passion by bringing her original 1985 cappuccino machine back into action. Encouraged by her friend Christy Womack, she set up at the market and, as Denise puts it, “it just kind of grew from there.” The coffee is only part of the magic. The other half? Clay. Once the market manager learned of Denise’s pottery skills, she was urged to add handmade mugs and bowls to her booth. Now in her thirteenth year, Denise is proud to say, “One of the things that I like to say about my little entrepreneurship here is that it’s about coffee, clay, and community.” Pulling double duty as both barista and potter, Denise has become a fixture at the market. She serves on the farmers market committee too, helping to maintain the close-knit, welcoming vibe that sets this market apart. “When people walk up, you know their name, you know what they want to drink,” Denise shares. The market, which typically features around 35 to 40 vendors, is more than just a place to shop. It’s a weekly hub for locals, with everything from pop-up markets to blood drives and pet adoptions. “We like to tune in to what’s going on around the town. We give a lot of information on Facebook… people can get the newsletter every week that gives you what the lineup is,” Denise explains. For artists and makers, the market is a special space. Becoming a vendor is a thoughtful process—applicants submit samples, and the market’s board ensures a diverse, high-quality selection. Denise welcomes the other potter at the market “with open arms,” but when it comes to coffee, she jokes, “That’s my niche.” Through ups and downs, Denise’s stall remains a gathering place for friends old and new, where a good cup of coffee comes with a side of conversation and genuine connection.

tangiFitness Impact tangi

For Independence resident Keylan Spears, fitness is more than just a numbers game. It's about discipline, growth, and discovering your own purpose. Spears, who grew up in a religious household, credits the morals and values from his upbringing with guiding his journey—both in life and in business.

40 | TangiLifestyles.com

“I’ve made it a mission to get to a point where I understand why I was put on this earth,” Spears says. That search for meaning is at the heart of everything he does, especially as the founder of Outwork, a gym that’s become a staple in downtown Hammond. Ironically, Spears wasn’t always a fan of working out. As a young man, basketball was his game. Exercise, on the other hand, felt like a chore, something he was forced to do to build discipline. “I quite honestly hated it at the time,” he admits. But looking back, he realizes those early mornings in the gym laid the foundation for much of his success. Spears got serious about fitness in 2017, earning his certification as a trainer and joining Downtown Fitness, where Tabitha Davis encouraged him to get started. The early days were all about learning on the job: working with clients, making mistakes, and refining his approach to training. Over time, he discovered that helping others transform their lives was more rewarding than any personal record he could set.

“I always want to one-up myself. There is always room to be and do better,” Spears explains.

A knee injury in 2021 changed everything. The road to recovery made Spears see fitness in a new light, not just as a way to look good, but as a way to truly help people overcome challenges. That experience inspired the philosophy behind Outwork, a brand he built with his father (who even designed the logo). Outwork isn’t about who can lift the most; it’s about competing with yourself. Today, Outwork is more than a gym; it’s a community. Spears works hard to create a supportive, approachable space for everyone, from college students at Southeastern Louisiana University to longtime clients who have been with him for over seven years. Whether you’re new to fitness, stuck in a rut, or working on your nutrition, Spears wants Outwork to be a resource that meets you where you are. Looking ahead, Spears plans to add nutrition services to Outwork’s offerings. He believes real results come from pairing exercise with healthy eating habits. “You’re not going to see those results unless you couple the two,” he says. And as for growth? Spears hopes to expand Outwork to new locations and keep making a positive impact in the community. What keeps him going through all the early mornings and late nights? It’s simple: the people. “Like most entrepreneurs, I do this because I want to help people,” Spears says. And as long as he’s outworking yesterday’s version of himself, he knows he’s on the right path.

Kim is a familiar face around Tangipahoa. A Hammond High Graduate (’91), she earned her undergrad in elementary education (’96) and masters in school counseling (’99) from Southeastern, and then taught at Loranger Middle School for three years. She and her husband Brian then moved to North Carolina for 10 years where she was an elementary school counselor. In 2009, Kim and Brian returned to Hammond and in 2011 founded 5 Stones, a digital marketing company, which now operates as Shop Marketing Pros and specializes in marketing for independent auto repair shops across the country. In May of this year Kim and Brian’s son Payton (24) graduated from West Point and is a U.S. Army 2nd Lieutenant! She is active in the Mission Church and attributes all life’s successes to her strong faith. Aside from her husband, son, faith, and successful business, these are her 5 favorite things. 44 44 || TangiLifestyles.com TangiLifestyles.com

1

Morning Quiet Time Kim wakes up at 5am daily and eases into a cozy chair in her sunroom. She starts her days there with God, silence, and her pups. She often uses this time to write devotionals.

2

Two Pups

3

Her pups bring extra love and life into the home. Lindy, a cocker spaniel, is named after a Kenny Chesney song and is a kind, loyal “Velcro” dog. Dutton, a British lab, is named after the Dutton Ranch and is a sweet, crazy, lunatic mess. Both are immensely loved.

4

Front Porch Swing Back Yard Pavillion Her home isn’t restricted to the walls of the house. Whether it’s reading books, eating lunch, playing with pups or visiting with friends, her backyard is a peaceful oasis. It allows her to be away from the world but still be in it.

5

Though the back yard is more private, the “southern feel” of her front porch has its unique benefits. This is Kim’s first house with a front porch and she loves it. Brian has a comfortable chair, and Kim has a super comfy bed swing with lots of pillows. Wind chimes enhance the experience.

Sunrise Mornings Grayton Beach is her favorite beach spot and where Kim has enjoyed her most memorable sunrises. Her dream of dreams is to be a volunteer for the Friends of Grayton Beach Sea Turtle Watch Team. October/November 2026 | 45

Weddings WITH A

PERSONAL TOUCH

Written by Drew Barzenick | Photos by Johnny Chauvin

What began as a dream for her daughter’s wedding has grown into something much bigger for Sandy Braddy. After seeing how much her family and guests loved the experience, Sandy wanted to create a place where other couples and their families could make those same kinds of memories. Today, that personal connection remains at the heart of everything she does at Wolf Hill. “When I see a mom looking at her daughter, it reminds me of the time I spent with my daughter on her wedding day,” Sandy says. That is why she does not want couples to simply pick a wedding venue. She wants them to choose a place that feels like home, feels special, and allows them to relax and enjoy the people around them. She wants every bride who comes to Wolf Hill to feel like family. Sandy has thought about the entire experience, from how the property looks, sounds, feels, and even smells, to the little things that can become stressful on a wedding day. Such as an extensive selection of complimentary decor for the couple to choose from. She sends brides reminders about marriage licenses and wedding-dress bustle tips and works to have solutions ready

when something unexpected happens. All brides have access to Sandy’s personal cell number. Wolf Hill closes for two months each year for renovations and improvements, but those months also allow flexibility when couples need to change their plans. Recently, a military couple learned the groom would be deployed before their October wedding. Sandy helped them move their wedding so they could celebrate before he left, reminding her why keeping those two months open matters. The property itself is designed to create an experience. The Sunset Peninsula surrounds couples with water, woods, and fountains, especially beautiful during golden hour. Sandy spent an entire year photographing sunsets each month so couples can see what their ceremony setting will look like throughout the seasons and plan their ceremony and photography around the light. Wolf Hill is continually being improved, with recent updates including a renovated covered porch with a wall of windows and climate control, new landscaping and lighting, fresh exterior and chapel paint, and improved walkways. Wolf Hill offers a variety of unique rooms and suites. The main building offers a naturally lit bridal suite with a full bathroom, balcony, and private entrance. The bridal party can enjoy breakfast, lunch, brunch, and mimosas while getting ready. The groomsmen have a hidden, speakeasy-style space with a TV and comfortable seating, plus a stocked fishing pond and the option to bring in a barber for trims and shaves. There is a quiet room for children or adults with special needs, breastfeeding moms, or parents with toddlers, offering a quiet escape from the celebration. On the property, at Wolf Hill Manor, you’ll find the honeymoon suite available exclusively for couples. The amenities include private parking, its own separate entrance, a spacious bedroom, a living room with a fireplace and TV, Wolf Hill robes, and a kitchenette stocked with breakfast goodies, vitamin waters, and Liquid I.V. to help recharge after a night of celebrating. For Sandy, it is about giving couples space to celebrate their dream wedding while the Wolf Hill staff is there to handle all the details along the way.

“Timeless isn’t Just about the building. It’s about the people, the experience and the memories that are created here.” ~ Barbara Coats

What began as an unexpected opportunity has grown into a beautiful event destination built on vision, creativity, friendship and family. For Barbara Coats, the story of Timeless Event Venue began when she discovered a property that had potential, even though it didn’t initially resemble the elegant venue she imagined. With her fiance, Clyde, Barbara began looking beyond what the property was and envisioning what it could become. “Once we started, the vision Just kept growing and growing,’’ Barbara says. Today, Timeless is entering an exciting new chapter with a major expansion that will include a spacious bridal suite, dedicated groom’s room, indoor/outdoor bar, additional storage, and restroom facilities. A large covered pavilion will provide a comfortable setting for celebrations year-round, with fans for warmer months and heaters for cooler weather. The expansion will allow Timeless to welcome larger guest counts while offering even more possibilities for weddings, corporate events, family reunions, parties, and special celebrations. The existing venue features approximately 1,900 square feet of indoor space with seating for up to 61 guests, along with expansive outdoor grounds, an outdoor dance floor, custom lighting, and a signature live oak tree. A newly added pond behind the tree has created another picturesque backdrop for wedding portraits, family photos and special moments. And when evening arrives, Timeless truly comes alive. ‘’When the sun goes down, everything lights up and the venue is absolutely breathtaking,” Barbara says. Barbara’s love of’ decorating and creating beautiful environments is at the heart of the Timeless experience. Clients can choose from decor options and packages and may bring their own licensed and insured vendors or select from Timeless’ preferred vendor list. Barbara is also quick to recognize the friends who have helped bring her vision to life. What began as friends simply lending a hand has grown into a close-knit ‘’Timeless family.” Tiffany Pierce, Barbara’s operating partner: plays an important role in helping manage and grow the venue.

Picking your wedding cake might be the most delicious part of planning your big day! With endless flavors, dreamy designs, and Instagram-worthy inspiration, choosing a wedding cake is less about tradition and more about creating something that feels uniquely you

A SWEET ADVENTURE Choosing the Perfect Wedding Cake Here’s how to make the process fun, stress-free, and of course, extra sweet.

Start With Your Style

Your wedding cake should fit the theme of your big day. Will there be a rustic feel with barn wood tables and wildflowers? Maybe a semi-naked cake adorned with fresh blooms pairs perfectly. Going classic and elegant? Smooth fondant and delicate piping always impress. Or, if your style is bold and modern, think geometric tiers or a splash of metallic. Bring pictures of your dress, venue, and flowers to your baker—these clues help them design a cake that’s truly “you.”

Consider the Season

Your cake shouldn’t just look good—it should taste amazing on your wedding day. Keep the weather in mind. Buttercream can melt on a hot summer afternoon, while rich flavors like caramel or spice cake are perfect for cozy fall or winter weddings. Ask your baker for recommendations that work with the season and setting.

Flavor Is Everything

Gone are the days when vanilla or fruitcake were your only choices. Today’s couples are having fun with flavors. Love chocolate and hazelnut, lemon and raspberry, or funfetti? Go for it! You can even have a different flavor for each tier—so everyone gets a taste of something they love. Don’t forget about fillings and frostings. Cream cheese, ganache, fruit preserves—the possibilities are endless. Schedule a tasting (the best homework ever!) and trust your taste buds.

Budget Wisely

Cakes can be surprisingly pricey, especially with intricate designs or lots of fresh flowers. Be upfront about your budget. Bakers are creative pros who can suggest ways to get the look you want—maybe with fewer tiers, simpler decorations, or faux layers mixed with real cake.

Personalize It

Your cake is a chance to show off your personality as a couple. Add a quirky cake topper, include your pet in the design, or sneak in a favorite quote. It’s the little touches that make your cake memorable. Bottom line: choosing your wedding cake should be a joyful experience. Savor the tastings, have fun with the design, and remember—no matter what, you’ll end up with something delicious to celebrate your happily ever after!
