Tickets will also be on sale at every home for $10 per person during the Parade.

One ticket is good for admission to all of the homes on Saturday and Sunday.

You will be asked to remove your shoes while touring each home; we suggest that you wear slip-ons. Shoe coverings will be provided. Strollers must be left at the door.

Toddlers and young children are the parent’s responsibility. Please supervise your children closely.

How to Enjoy

The Parade of Homes

As sponsor of the Parade of Homes, the Home Builders Association of Great Falls would like to ensure that everyone enjoys the Parade and gains new ideas for their current or future home.

The following tips are offered by the HBA GF to make the Parade more enjoyable for both you and the people around you, while protecting each of our home’s aesthetics.

Booties. These will be provided to you at the first

home you choose to tour. These booties are yours to keep and must be worn over your socks each time you enter a home and removed as you leave. The booties protect floor coverings from dirt and oil. A bag will be provided for you to carry your shoes.

Photographs. Each home belongs to a

homeowner or to the builders and he/she may not want pictures or measurements taken for various reasons.

Neighborhoods. Please consider where and how you park, be sensitive to noise, and walk on pavement, sidewalks, or designated travel routes.

Furniture & Accessories. These items

are for viewing only. Please do not sit on furniture at any time or handle the furnishings in the home.

Children. Children are welcome at the Parade of Homes. However, please hold their hands.

Teach them to respect what other people own.

Bathrooms. Portable toilets have been

provided at all of the homes for your convenience.

Bathrooms in the homes are not for public use.

CHECK FOR PROPER INSURANCE

Make sure the builder/remodeler has sufficient workers compensation and general liability insurance. If not, you may be liable for any construction-related accidents on your premises.

Keep in mind a Worker’s Comp waiver is allowed for the owner but not their employees.

FINDING & HIRING A BUILDER OR REMODELER

CHECK REFERENCES

Ask the builder/remodeler to provide you with names of previous customers. If they won’t, beware.

If they do, ask the customers if they would hire the builder/remodeler again.

INSPECT THEIR WORK

Ask if you can see the builder/remodelers work, both completed and in progress. Check for quality of workmanship and materials.

ASK FOR REFERRALS

LOOK FOR A GOOD COMMUNICATOR

Check with the Great Falls Home Builder Association for names of member builders and remodelers. You can also ask family, friends or coworkers for recommendations.

Do you feel you can easily communicate with the builder/remodeler? Remember you will be in close contact with them throughout the construction process and afterward as you live in your new home.

CHECK OUT THEIR REPUTATION

Make sure the builder or home remodeler has a permanent business location and a good reputation with local banks and suppliers. Chat up the folks at the contractors’ desk at the local lumber yard or other suppliers.

LOOK FOR EXPERIENCE AND LONGEVITY

Find out how long they have been in the building business. It usually takes three to five years to establish a financially sound business. You want to make sure they will be around after the construction is complete to service any warranties.

FIND OUT HOW THEY RATE

Check out the company’s rating and if there have been any complaints filed with your local Better Business Bureau: www.bbb.org. It is also becoming more common for builders to have Internet ratings which can be helpful.

GET IT IN WRITING

Make sure the builder/remodeler provides you with a complete and clearly written contract. The contract will benefit both of you. If you are having a new home built, get and review a copy of the home warranty and homeowner manual as well. All new built homes must have contracts per state laws.

Remodels do not require a contract.

PAY IN STAGES

Never pay for work in-full up front. It is reasonable to pay a deposit, but hold the remaining payment until work is completed to your satisfaction.

BEWARE OF LOWBALL BIDS

Be cautious of unusually low-priced bids. If the builder/remodeler is unable to pay for the materials and labor as the project proceeds, this may indicate a potential problem. Keep in mind that less expensive does not necessarily mean better!
