Long, winding road leads home From the Editor by Tim Miejan
IT WAS the end of my freshman year of high school and I was signing up for classes for the next year. I was stymied. I needed to take one more elective class, and I didn’t know what to choose. I happened to mention this during a meeting of my Civil Air Patrol squadron, and our cadet commander at the time suggested journalism. Why not? I had delivered newspapers for several years. Remember the kid who would ride a bicycle along the sidewalk and toss a paper on the doorstep? That was me. I woke up at 4 in the morning, rolled the papers and put rubberbands on them, and then loaded them into the doublesided wire basket attached over the rear wheel of my bike. I rode my route and then went back to bed. I constantly woke up for school in a panic, not remembering if I did my route or not. So I took journalism my sophomore year, loved it and knew that it was my calling. That one synchronistic suggestion for me to take journalism led to me becoming: editor of my high school paper; a writer and columnist on my college paper; a reporter, editor and page designer on a daily newspaper following college; and managing editor and co-publisher of The Edge. Why did I happen to mention needing suggestions for that journalism class when I did? Why did I listen when the suggestion was made? Was it because it was part of the plan I had created for myself before I incarnated into the body — and following the plan was just a matter of time?
dawn of the internet
For several years, a co-worker at the daily newspaper where I worked kept encouraging me to get a personal computer. I finally did, and then I became one of the 1-million subscribers to America Online (AOL). It was 1994, when “blazing 56k” internet connections over the phone line were being promoted. At that time, AOL was a growing community that allowed members to glean information and news and chat with other subscribers in THE EDGE MAGAZINE 763.433.9291 P.O. hundreds of chatrooms where people gathered to not only meet other singles, but to communicate with others who shared their interests…in gardening, in cars, in sports…and in spirituality. I was a regular visitor to a chatroom that focused just on A Course in Miracles, which supports spiritual transformation, and another chatroom that focused just on Reiki healing. At some point, while chatting with regulars in both chatrooms, I realized that one person was in both groups with me. We began to strike up an online friendship, and in time, we moved from chatting online to speaking on the phone. We shared so many synchronicities that were “uncanny” — she was the same age as my sister, we both grew up with two other siblings, we were interested in spirituality and healing, we loved the same music, we loved exploring nature — and it wasn’t long before I took a road trip north from Missouri where I lived to Minnesota so I could meet this new friend, who became my wife. A free publication
During that trip, I picked up a copy of a free publication called The Edge at the Mississippi Market co-op at its former location on Randolph in St. Paul. I loved my first introduction to Minnesota, and it wasn’t long before I chose to move up north. I applied for work at the Star-Tribune, Pioneer Press and The Edge. It just so happened that at that exact time the editor of The Edge was leaving to form her own publication (Twin Cities Wellness), and the job was mine for the asking. The rest, as they say, is history. My life circumstances have been one synchronicity after another — and yours have, too. Rest assured that we create them for ourselves! Oh, and what did my mom cover me with to protect me from the rain when she brought me home from the hospital as an infant? A newspaper. a Tim Miejan is editor and co-publisher of The Edge. Wind over Fire center in Rochester hosts two international healers Healing Meditation with Master Gregory Antyuhin A gifted medical intuitive, energy visionary and spiritual leader known as Master Gregory Antyuhin, a Renaissance man who was dubbed “Doctor X-ray” by the BBC, has the ability to scan the internal body and detect conditions that normally can only be found with X-rays, MRI and a battery of medical tests. He also uses various energy healing methods, herbal teas, essential oils and other holistic methods to improve chronic conditions for clients, and he teaches clients how to take control of their own health and how to heal others. Master Gregory will speak about his abilities and his teaching and offer a transformative healing meditation on June 3 at the BE Group gathering ($10). He will offer two-hour private sessions ($175). Master Gregory events will take place at the Wind over Fire Healing Arts Center in Rochester, MN. A graduate of the Medical Institute of Stavropol, Russia, Master Gregory specialized in psychiatry, focusing on depressive states. Before coming to the United States, he was the head of a medical clinic in the health resort of Pyatigorsk, Russia, where he founded the school of alternative, spiritual and energy medicine. Since 1996, he has offered private consultations as a medical intuitive, and teaches a series of classes on Bio-Energetic Medicine: Your Personal Journey to Health & Transformation. With more than 2,000 students and interns in his international program (North and South America, Bali and Europe), he teaches people techniques for developing their psychic abilities to heal and achieve harmony of mind, body and spirit. He is the author of three books in English and Russian: How to be Healthy and Live a Long Life, Journey Towards Transformation, and Shaman Without a Drum. During a session, Master Gregory detects what influences — toxins, infections, parasites, stress, radiation, poisons and many others — are causing changes in the body’s organs and systems and predispositions to any dysfunctions. In a private session with Master Gregory, the client remains fully clothed and simply sits while he “scans” them. He also can work with people who are hundreds of miles away. His “scans” reportedly are about 94 percent accurate and have been demonstrated in rigorous tests. Contact Mary Laven at the Wind over Fire Healing Arts Center at 507.281.6649 for more information and to set an appointment.
Master Tao Huang presents Xin Le Qu sessions Master Tao Huang, a noted Taoist master in I Ching and author of many books, will return June 13-23 to the Wind over Fire Healing Arts Center in Rochester, MN — and June 16-18 in Minneapolis — to offer Xin Le Qu (pronounced Chin La Shu) bodywork sessions. Xin Le Qu sessions remove the karmic holding in our bodies from the four generations or 15 family members that we hold space for (our self, our parents, our grandparents and our great-grandparents), giving us more space for our souls to fully become embodied. This transformational bodywork provides insight into the effects that your ancestral lineage has on your physical body and leaves you thinking differently about your family forever. Master Tao Huang grew up in Northwest China. According to a prophecy revealed to his family by a local shaman, he was destined to be a healer and shaman. He felt a calling to go to the United States to be able to provide this gift of healing that he was given that he called Xin Le Qu. He emigrated in 1990 to offer the teachings of Laoism and the practices of Taoism. He is the author of The Secret Teachings of the Tao Te Ching, Laoism: The Complete Teachings of Lao Zi, Spiritual Anatomy, and Angelic Wings, Twin Flames’ Revelation of the Meridian System. Master Tao says ancestral and genetic codings of four generations are passed on to us and, as a result, we have “contracts” to work through in this lifetime. We are responsible to remove or end at least one-third of these ancestral codes. As we remove ancestral and karmic blockages that separate and degrade us from divine love, we become more of the universal self that we were intended to be. The more we are in our bodies, we relate to people more compassionately and divinely. It is not uncommon to feel a little out of sorts after Tao’s work. One does a great deal of clearing out when you work with ancestral contracts and depending on what your contracts were, they could be painful and then exhausting. The “holding” Master Tao does on the body is for as long as it takes to release the tension that is held by you at those meridian points. This can occur by holding or touching multiple meridian points at one time. Contact Mary Laven of Wind over Fire Healing Arts Center at 507.281.6649 to set an appointment. a

possible solutions, etc. Self-control of Harmful Emotions: Not taking out your own frustrations on your children. Controlling yourself and speaking calmly, yet directly, without anger. Instead of exploding saying, “Let’s find a way to work this out.” Or “What is hurting you so much that you are behaving this way?” These words spoken with genuine caring bring solutions and harmony. Appreciation: Commenting on the good
points of your child, expressing how rich your child makes your life and how much you care and admire her/him for various reasons.

Love and Parenting - Part 1 The Behaviors of Love by Carole Cravath
First of a four-part series Love is so important that the success of our parenting depends on it! Its power to warm hearts, transform difficult situations and help us rise above our pettiness is unquestionable. Love is respect for the individual beingness and unique qualities and life path of another including our children. Love is awesome in its requirement to set aside our egos and stop insisting that our kids must do it our way or be like us. They are individuals. Love insists on parental selfcontrol to transform anger and frustration into temperance and patience, and thus do no harm. Love’s tolerance sees differences between ourselves and our children as a tapestry of rich variation completing a dynamic whole. Love’s magnanimity takes work as we learn to understand our children instead of being irritated with their weaknesses or mistakes. Love protects, and that includes protecting kids from our own bad moods and outbursts by decisively taking charge of our behavior and emotions. Love expands within us through listening attentively to and learning from the perspectives and perceptions of our offspring. Love is a spiritual action and takes work, discipline and growth on our part! It can be cultivated, and is the most fulfilling and important quality we can develop in life and in parenting. Love is a gift we give ourselves and our kids. We think of love as affection and, of

course, it is! Love also takes on many additional forms and behaviors in our daily interactions with children. The behaviors of love include:
what happened yesterday as part of the past. Allow you and your child to learn and grow through mistakes. Offer some ideas for change and work with your child to come up with a solution. For example, “Let me show you a good way to do that I think will work well for you.” Or, “How do you think we can improve this situation.” “What do we need to do to make this work better?”

Kindness: Being helpful and warm; soothing, stroking and offering your good wishes. Seeing a need and fulfilling it without a request. Reaching out to your child with encouraging, uplifting words or actions. Empathy: Getting inside your child’s shoes

Interest/Connection: Making time to
inquire about and listen to your child’s concerns, interests, experiences, etc. Delving into the heart and soul of your kids to know what makes them happy, what specifically they like about art or tennis, and how to help them overcome fears, etc. Attend to their inner life, their spirit, what goes on inside them.
Compassion: Helping, aiding or supporting a child who is suffering or struggling. Creatively assisting with a challenging task, soothing hurt feelings, offering varied

Setting ego aside: Do not give orders or say, “Do it because I said so.” The words and demeanor of control, intimidation and forcing lead to a child who is insecure, weak, angry and without confidence or trust. All of the research shows that this non-loving behavior creates troubled kids with multiple problems. If this is an issue for you, educate yourself in the skills of respectful communication, conflict resolution and anger management. Look online for references and excellent materials.
Remember, we grow into love with intent, focus, practice and the desire to improve ourselves and the lives of our children. The value of connecting with Spirit on our human journey with a sincere purpose in our hearts Spirit Leaves by Janet Michele Red Feather
Ignorance is most certainly not bliss. As a thirtysomething living in California, my spirituality was just opening. Without benefit of hothouse protection, I bloomed among gypsies, tramps and thieves. Drawn into Native spirituality like a dragonfly to a shimmering algaeencrusted pond, I often made poor and hasty choices. My quest for wisdom and knowledge led me through a succession of false teachers. Ultimately, through a chain of unsavory people, I was led to a true Traditional Person. My trip to North Dakota in 1993 led to a defining U-turn in my life’s nimble path. Fasting is a great equalizer. With the help of a Mandan Medicine Man, Eagle Turning Back, I found myself atop a butte overlooking Lake Sakakawea. I was not instantly graced by dreams and visions. First, mosquitos came. They bit my feet, ankles and legs. I wrapped my blanket tighter and prayed. Flyers found my arms and neck. I brushed them off with my blanket and rewrapped, this time lifting the blanket higher before encircling my shoulders with the edges. There was yet no saving breeze. The insects were content to feast upon my cheeks, ears and scalp. Ultimately, I was covered from head to toe with bites, only my swollen eyes peeking out at the view from this isolated precipice. Later I learned I could have lit the sage I had with me; its smoke acts as a natural deterrent. Yellow jackets buzzed around me. Fortunately, they circled briefly, became disenchanted, and
left. At my feet, tiny spiders scurried past. I’m fearful of spiders, but by contrast, they seemed innocuous. Ultimately, a gentle rain descended like manna. I prayed and cried to the Spirits: “I am praying for a way of life,” I pleaded. “Please come closer to me and guide me.” A few cows bellowed from distant farms — but no supernal reply. Itchy, tired and disillusioned, I cried softly, like a small child alone in a room. I shivered as the blazing sun ducked behind the clouds. I found comfort, strangely, in a large, craggy stone three or four feet from my altar. It had a unique appearance, and its markings began to seem both comforting and familiar. I felt a sense of peace whenever I turned my gaze there. As I prayed and connected with the stone, a dewy, light rain descended once again. Later, I had the good fortune to meet The Red Feather Man. He saged an eagle feather and handed it to me across his kitchen table in Minot. “This is for you; for you have stood upon the hill, suffered and prayed for the People.” He shared with me the important realization that the supposed craggy rock was actually a Holy Being who sometimes appears as a stone. He helped me toward a different understanding of fasting. Upon reflection, I saw that, alone on the hill with only myself and the Spirits, I became a real human being. My arrogance was shorn from me by a nation of biting insects. I traveled up North decades ago with Fast continued on page 23

Mothering with ease 3 simple steps to empower your parenting and nurture your child’s spiritual gifts by Alison Elsberry
We all need reminders of our true potential and power. And as a Mom, you naturally have the ability to carry this vision for yourself and your child. You’re a mirror, reflecting possibility and giving your child a gentle reminder of who they came here to be. It’s hard to remember that truth when you’re feeling challenged to the core by their behavior or overwhelmed with fear and doubt that leaves you feeling defeated or like a complete failure. So, how do you show up as unconditional love and unwavering faith when you feel like a mess? First of all, you can relax, knowing you were perfectly chosen to care for your child. And you both agreed to show up together in this lifetime to grow in a spiritual partnership. An important part of your experience together is recognizing how your fears, judgments and expectations impact the relationship with your child. If you’re struggling to understand your child’s behavior or if they constantly push
your buttons and test your limits, chances are they’re simply trying to tell you something. Their behavior is the delivery of a message. While the delivery may not always be a pleasant experience, you can rest assured your child will always show you what is ready to be healed within yourself and in your relationship. This is one of the greatest gifts of Motherhood because it’s an opportunity to gain clarity and insight into the truth of who you really are. And your child needs you to remember so you can break free of limiting beliefs that stand in the way of their freedom to share their gifts with the world. All it takes is your willingness to let go so you can expand your perspective and enjoy seeing yourself and your child in a new Light! Here are three simple steps to empower your parenting and nurture your child’s gifts: Explore your beliefs: Awareness is your key to uncovering how you really feel about yourself and your child’s behaviors. How you perceive is everything and you’ll begin to uncover what’s truly standing in the way of enjoying an easy relationship together. Give yourself permission to explore the unconscious beliefs that are ready to be healed. Take time to journal and explore your perceptions. Be gentle and kind in
your findings. Chances are you’ll find connections between your beliefs and your child’s behaviors. Ease your energy: Begin easing your energy around beliefs and expectations that are no longer serving you and your child. Your interaction will begin to feel more effortless and natural. Learning to ease your energy helps dissolve power struggles and establishes mutual respect. Let go of expectations and judgments towards yourself and your child. This will help create a natural flow of energy that gives you and your child the freedom to enjoy each other. Empower your potential: Ask yourself how you want to show up for yourself and your child. It’s a great way to begin shifting your perspective and creating a relationship with intention so you carry beliefs that serve the highest potential of both of you. Your child is here to share a big message with the world. And they need your help in fulfilling their purpose. Being aware that the messages you send plays a vital role in their spiritual growth and development so they’re free to become the confident spiritual leader they were born to be. a Alison Elsberry, OTR/L, is the creator of the Divine Motherhood Movement for supporting Moms parenting spiritually gifted children. She helps these Moms break free of overwhelm, fear and doubt so their children become confident spiritual leaders who are free to share their gifts with the world. The secret energy of sacred places by Carrigan Curtis
Have you ever wondered what makes a place like the Great Pyramid of Giza, Machu Picchu or the cathedrals of Europe so energetically rich? Have you ever wished you could bottle some of this sacred energy and bring it home? Now you can. The energetic science known as BioGeometry gives us the ability to bring the qualities of a sacred space into our home, our bodies and work environments. Dr. Ibahim Karim, founder of BioGeometry, developed this energy science based on the design language of shape, color, sound and motion. He has completed more than 40 years of research on this subject and is now showing people all over the world how to detect sacred energies, resonate with them, and use them in daily life for our benefit. H AWA II A ND THE S ECRE T E N E RGY O F BG 3
On my last trip to the Islands of Hawaii, I was able to visit many of the ancient petroglyphs on the Big Island, as well as the oldest known pre-Polynesian site, the “Menehune Ditch,” on the island of Kauai. With the understanding and perspective that BioGeometry has given me, I knew how to detect the energetic qualities of these areas and the reason behind the specific locations of these sacred sites. Many of the petroglyphs, as well as the Menehune Ditch, resonate with an energy quality that Dr. Karim has coined “BG3,” as it is comprised of three beneficial energy qualities that have been found

at sacred locations all over the world. By tapping into the Earth’s beneficial energies, ancient cultures would enhance, distribute and beneficially infuse all life with the naturally occurring sacred energies, promoting physical and spiritual health. I was able to see this in action when I visited the Menehune Ditch, which is located directly over a line of BG3 energy. The Menehune Ditch was an ancient irrigation canal that brought freshly charged water to the agricultural land below. The water was infused with sacred energy as it traveled down the canal and, thus, infused the food grown in the area with BG3. What better way to provide for a healthy and spiritually uplifted culture? O U R T R U E S EL F S H I N ES T H R O U G H
Many of us are beginning to realize that we are more than just a physical body. We are an energetic system made up of many subtle bodies, of which our highest most spiritual body is Soul, our true self. In understanding our body’s energetic system, we are beginning to yearn for higher consciousness. The physical world we all live in challenges us every day. But the physical world acts as it was designed: to be a school for Soul’s growth. As our consciousness expands through our experiences in the physical world, so does our sensitivity to all forms of energy, both beneficial and detrimental. Dr. Karim’s BioGeometry now gives us an opportunity to walk through a new door that brings clarity of mind and emotion, while allowing our true self to shine through.

BioGeometry does this by alleviating the constant pressures of electromagnetic fields of our modern technological age with specifically designed shapes and sacred energy principles. When we can accurately identify all energy qualities, every aspect of life can be tuned to the highest ideal. Like the scientific periodical chart or the breakdown of calories, sugars, vitamins and fats in foods, BioGeometry does the same for invisible energies based on a qualitative scale. In doing so, it is assisting humans to move forward in consciousness. BR IN GIN G HOME THE SP I RI TU A L GO L D
Throughout history, sacred temples and churches were designed in respect to earth, sky, and spiritual energies. The designers recognized that these energies had the potential for creating a “heaven” on Earth. This understanding of sacred energy was the cornerstone for city planners of ancient Greece and ancient Egypt. BioGeometry gives you the ability to transform your life by accessing these energetic qualities. It can support healing, transmute detrimental electromagnetic fields, and open the door for higher consciousness. It offers you simple solutions to bring home the spiritual gold that can transform our personal space into the temple it was meant to be. a Carrigan Curtis is the owner of a Residential Home Design/Build Company and a Practitioner of BioGeometry at Healing By Design, Inc. Becoming heaven on Earth by BonnY Kraus There will be money until there is money no more! There will be lack until there is lack no more! There will be careers until there are careers no more! There will be separation until there is separation no more! There will be inequality between men and women until there is no more! There will be false security through material possessions until there is no more! There will be self-absorbency and self-importance until there is no more! There will be arrogance and hatred and fear and negativity and addiction until there is no more! The illusion will prevail until it does no more. And the “Return to Innocence” replaces our unworthiness, our guilt, our shame and our low self-esteem. And when that day comes upon our Earth and we truly are uplifted into the 5th dimension of oneness and unity and inner peace, we will let go of our inner conflict and become the love, the joy, the bliss, the harmony and the wisdom of our true authentic selves. Then and only then will true intimacy return to the planet and healing become obsolete.

Re-inventing your life through Divine miracles by Bonny Kraus The miracles of Nature are one of the most wondrous experiences we have created here on planet Earth. Know that our precious Earth, along with our physical bodies, is going through the biggest transition ever to happen in human form. We are ascending into the 5th dimension and beyond. It has been told that within the next ten years, the 3rd dimension — and most probably the 4th dimension — will no longer reside on Earth as we make our transition to 5th dimensional living. What is the 5th dimension, you may ask? What will it look like? Feel like? And be like? Let’s check in with the angels. Angel Ariel wants us to know that we are making a very conscious choice right now through our actions, our words and our daily choices to either live within the dimension of “love” or the dimension of “fear.” Simple, you say — and yes it is, but it still takes a choice to transform all old-paradigm actions into love. Is it loving to spank our children while we teach them that it is unkind to hit one another? Is it loving to create unrest in our families through control or violence and then wonder why the world is still contemplating war? Look within your life and see where the old actions or reactions take over and pull you off course…off the course of pure Divine unconditional love… for love is truly all there is. The 5th dimension is a reality where only love resides. Where there are no opposites. There is only pure joy. Imagine a world with no war, no hatred, no pain, no struggle, no suffering, no disease,
no victimization or no separation through any means — religion, ethnic background, economy, education — where all is given and received equally and freely. Where economics and social class do not exist and therefore cannot separate us. Where food, and all that our heart’s desire, is given freely with no scarcity. A world that is not in competition or lack of any kind. Hold this vision of the world in your hearts and feel it with all you physical senses, as well as your higher senses, as we bring this world into reality with the intent of our pure consciousness. For these higher senses of telepathy, intuition, inner knowingness, clarity, integrity, peace, joy, honesty and oneness will all be a common part of our daily lives. We will just know, hear, see and be beyond our human senses and become fully realized humans living out HeavenDivine existence, on Earth through our human selves. As the old saying goes, ”Chop wood, Carry water.” We will be seemingly the same, only totally different, as we carry out our daily activities as Divine aspects of our God selves within human bodies — no longer chopping wood and carrying water as our Ego selves. We will be totally transformed! Everything that came before December 21, 2012 will, within the next few decades, be referred to as the “Dark Ages.” a Bonny Kraus is a Integrated Energy Therapy Master Instructor teaching IET courses wherever she is called. The soft flutter of butterflies by Stephen Harrod Buhner An excerpt from the new book Plant Intelligence and the Imaginal Realm: Beyond the Doors of Perception into the Dreaming of Earth I never was a good student in school — though first grade was fun. We made handprints in wet plaster and walked in the woods looking for butterflies and learned the Spanish words for chocolate and hello. That first summer after school was wonderful. I got bright new shoes and ran and played with my friends and we flew kites whose tails fluttered in the wind and the days were as long as forever. But next year, school was different. Our teacher stood ramrod stiff at the head of the class and she was tall and thin and the mole on her chin quivered with indignation. Her face disapproved of itself and she wrinkled her nose when she talked as if she were smelling something polite people didn’t mention…. I didn’t like her very much and I began to think that school was something I would rather not do. But when I told my mother, I was informed that I didn’t have a choice in the matter and that school was good for little children and that go I would. So, the years went by, as years do, and some teachers were better and some were not and I became as unconscious as unconscious could be. I went to university and the teacher in my first class looked like Santa Claus…. He told us his name was Ben Sweet (Sweet by birth, sweet by disposition) and the name of his class was “On the challenge of being human.” My other teachers did not seem to care about the challenge of being human and instead they taught us to think about mathematics and analyze different chemicals, and as the months went by I felt farther from myself. And the only thing that seemed to make sense was Ben Sweet and the way he talked to us and urged something in the depths of us to come out…. And one day, I found myself thinking that I wanted all my teachers to be like that…. So, I made a list of every person I had heard of that had moved me in the way Ben Sweet did, and I decided I wanted to meet and learn from every one of them: Buckminster Fuller, Robert Bly, Jacques Cousteau, Robert Heinlein, Joan Halifax, Stephanie Simonton, Elisabeth Kübler-Ross, William Stafford, Jane Goodall, Gregory Bateson, Eric Fromm, Frank Herbert, Ashley Montagu, Margaret Mead. I was so young then and the world was so new and my whole life was before me. Elisabeth Kübler-Ross was plain and tall and thin…. Her eyes penetrated everything they touched and they were the deepest blue and looking into them was like peering into some deep mountain pool that’s so clear you can’t tell how deep it is. Down in those deeps were things I couldn’t quite make out, things I didn’t understand…I could feel whatever it was deep inside, touching parts of me that I did not know I possessed. And those parts of me…I could feel them begin to stir under its touch.
“How did you come to your work?” someone asked Elisabeth. “I was a young doctor and it was just after the war. I had heard stories of the terrible things that had happened in the concentration camps and I wanted to see for myself. So, I went to Majdanek in Poland…. “By the gates there was a table and a young woman with dark, raven hair. She had to ask me several times for my name. She carefully wrote it down in the book where they kept a list of all the visitors. Then she looked up and smiled a sad, quiet smile, and waved me in…. “Soon, I found myself in front of a wooden barracks…. I walked down the long passageways that ran between the tiers of bunks, looking around me. Then I saw — on the walls, roughly scratched, sometimes carved, into the wooden planks — hundreds of initials, and names — the last desperate messages to the living. And among those messages — I couldn’t believe it — were hundreds and hundreds of butterflies. Butterflies, everywhere. In the midst of that horror, the children had scratched butterflies into the walls!” …Elisabeth looked at all of us in the room. None of us were moving. We were still, hardly breathing, caught spellbound. “I had never experienced such cruelty,” Elisabeth said, “and my heart was being crushed. But the young woman seemed oddly unaffected by it, so I said to her, ‘But you look so peaceful. How can you be peaceful when your whole family was killed here?’ “Golda looked back at me — those peaceful eyes! — and said in the most penetrating voice I had ever heard, ‘Because the Nazis taught me this: There is a Hitler inside each of us and if we do not heal the Hitler inside of ourselves, then the violence, it will never stop.’” …There was something in Elisabeth’s voice that day, some invisible thing that my younger self did not consciously understand but could only feel. And it went into the depths of me and there it remains still…. There is a difference I learned, long ago, between schooling and education. Do you feel it now, in the room with you? I was never able to find it in any of my schools. But sometimes I find it in the soft flutter of butterflies, in the wildness of plants growing undomesticated in a forest clearing, in the laughter and running of young children, their hair flowing in the wind, and sometimes, sometimes I find it in the words of teachers who come among us from time to time — out there, far outside these walls, in the wildness of the world. a Stephen Harrod Buhner is the author of Plant Intelligence and the Imaginal Realm: Beyond the Doors of Perception into the Dreaming of Earth (Bear & Company), which is available at B&N. com, Amazon.com, InnerTraditions.com, or your local bookstore. June horoscope: Relax, look within, integrate Star Wisdom by DK Brainard June brings a break from the non-stop intensity of 2014. The Mercury retrograde from the 7th through the 30th urges us to slow down, look within, and integrate the emotional and mental shifts we’ve made this year. Aries (Mar. 21-Apr. 19)...Write a short novella or rambling pamphlet about your parents from the point of view and in the language of your 8-year-old self. This will free your mind in ways you can’t imagine. When we finally allow our inner children to tell their unedited stories — and we actually listen to them — they no longer need to sabotage our adult relationships. Taurus (Apr. 20-May 20)... Acknowledge your insecurities this month. All of them, especially the ones you try so hard never to think about. Say ’em out loud, or write them down. You’re beautiful, you’re talented, and you work harder than the rest of us combined. If you’d just accept yourself completely as you are, you could have almost anything you want. Gemini (May 21-June 20)...Use the Mercury Retrograde to discover where you need more self-esteem. Then allow yourself to utilize your curiosity to find the esteem-building program or method that will work for you personally. You could make a whole lot more money from this point forward, but you have to understand and align with your true worth.
You could transcend that pattern now, but you’ve got to look at it unflinchingly and with self-compassion. Acknowledge how your selfnegating behavior represented an attempt to keep yourself safe. Then focus your mind on a commitment to giving your sweet self what he or she really deserves. Virgo (Aug. 23-Sept. 22)...Your expenses may be much higher than normal, but so is your earning potential. To unlock the latter, you need to get real about what you really, really want from life. Then dedicate yourself to that goal with the same diligence, constancy and integrity you consistently apply when serving others. Libra (Sept. 23-Oct. 22)...By the end of the month, you’re tuning in to a new vision of what you can do in the world. The problem up until now is that you haven’t really believed that what you want is possible — or permissible. Once you uncover and challenge the core belief that keeps you playing small, you’ll find doors magically opening where before there were only walls. Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 21)... The belief that it’s not safe to trust people is based in legitimate experiences. But it’s also self-perpetuating and it blocks you from the abun-
Cancer (June 21-July 22)...The New Moon in your sign on the 27th is a chance to remake yourself into who you want to be. To maximize this opportunity, you need to de-focus from the workaday world and let yourself dream. Talk to the people inside your head and actually listen to what they’re saying. Seeing how you constantly project your past onto your present is the key to your personal renaissance. Leo (July 23-Aug. 22)...Look back over your life and identify the most consistent pattern of self-sabotage.

dance you could be enjoying. June challenges you to discover this unconscious belief system and bring compassion to the wounded part of you that clings so tightly to it. Are you ready to come out of your mine and be loved and supported? Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 21)... Look honestly at the places in your relationships where you either hold on for fear of losing security or just let things slide because you don’t want to have to say no. You’re a shining star! You could probably have your cake and eat it, too — once you learn how to communicate your feelings as information, not evidence. Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 19)... The best work experiences for you are the ones where you get to play with information, using your mind to solve puzzles and find workable systems. Treat your most important relationship (the one you have or the one you want) like that kind of job this month. Whenever you feel stuck, engage your curiosity — and remember that a relationship is a job, a puzzle and a game all rolled into one. Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 18)...When your mind is always a step or three ahead of the rest of the world, it’s easy to develop the habit of holding
yourself back. Your job this month is to uncover the core belief about life that blocks you from bringing your boundless mental creativity into everything you do. Let yourself flow and life will flow to you. Pisces (Feb. 19-Mar. 20)... There’s a tape loop playing in your subconscious that says unbounded creativity and security — be it financial, emotional or psychological — cannot coexist. This belief was modeled or imparted by a parent, so it seems true to your inner child. But the truth is the more you surrender to your creative genius, the more secure you feel, no matter what your circumstances. It’s time to live in truth. a D.K. Yoga for June: Warrior One Pose Yoga for YOU by Michelle Ploog
Warrior One pose (Virabhadrasana Eka) represents a solid foundation for you to connect with the soul of the Earth. You press your feet into the Earth and feel the Earth’s energy invigorate action into your body. This posture is wonderful to practice when you need a boost of courage to take action. We all have a calling or mission for our lives. Once we are clear on that mission, we must ignite courage to take action to make that mission come alive. For the past nine months I have been in creation of the original docu-reality television series, Soul Connection Adventure. Each episode I am immersed into a different culture to experience and share their practices of inner peace, celebration and expression of unconditional love. Our mission is to connect people and celebrate humanity to inspire global change for peace and common good through inspirational, educational reality television programming. It has taken the courage that can be ignited by Warrior One pose to move forward through every challenge with faith that our bigger vision and mission for Soul Connection Adventure will prevail. To ignite courage for your life’s mission, practice Warrior One daily repeating the mantra “I am ready and willing.” Standing in mountain pose, step your right foot 3 feet forward. Your right big toe points straight ahead. Place your left heel down on a 45-degree angle. Bend your right knee over your right ankle. Make sure that you can see your right big toe. Your left leg is
straight. Lift up your low belly. Reach your fingers to the sky above you. Take your heart up slightly. Gaze straight ahead or beyond your fingertips over head. Take 10 breaths repeating your mantra. Switch sides. Namasté. a Michelle Ploog is an ERYT (Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher) certified in Kripalu Yoga and Baptiste Power Yoga that inspires students to live a life of passion and purpose. Angels & Our Divine Purpose with Angelologist Chantel Lysette “The angels will tell us what we need to hear, not what we want to hear, and sometimes their messages may not always be comforting — truth rarely is. But truth is what liberates us from the illusions we create in our lives. Truth brings us closer to our Creator and the understanding of our purpose here in this existence.” — Chantel Lysette
and I felt the Holy Spirit move through me and I started sobbing. “Some people may have been glad to hear something like that. It scared the bejeezus out of me and I ran. I left the church. I didn’t want any part of it, because I said I wasn’t worthy. I said, ‘Lord, find someone else. I will screw this up in so many ways, you’ll lose count.’ I said, ‘I can’t do it.’ And so, I ran and I ignored Him for a really long time, and He snuck some angels into my midst.”

Known internationally as a professional “angelologist” and author of three books detailing her relationship with the archangels, Rev. Chantel Lysette, Ph.D., will visit the Twin Cities for the first time in June, brimming with excitement and eager to share her enthusiasm about the angels with Minnesotans. Let’s be clear: Rev. Lysette is not just connected intuitively with the archangels. She is a self-proclaimed “angel geek” who, at the drop of a hat, can speak about angels all afternoon, into the evening and probably into the next day if given a chance. Her commitment to the angels follows humbling experiences that eventually freed her up to write books and help others establish and maintain “a lifeenhancing relationship with God.” Her books — Azrael Loves Chocolate: Michael’s a Jock — An Insider’s Guide to What Angels Are Really Like, The Angel Code: Your Interactive Guide to Angel Communication, and the newest release, Angelic Pathways: An Angel Medium’s Guide to Navigating Our Human Experience — do not read like spiritual texts. Rev. Lysette presents the archangels not as winged divinity, but as wise beings with distinct personalities, images and missions — and a sense of humor, to boot. She’s so connected with the archangels that she speaks to them like she would a brother. She is on a first-name basis with Ariel, Azrael, Cassiel, Chamuel, Gabriel, Haniel, Iophiel, Metatron, Michael, Raguel, Ramiel, Raphael, Sandalphon, Uriel and Zadkiel. She calls Jesus “JC.” My interview with Rev. Lysette, who spoke with me from her home near Detroit, is arranged by the many topics she shared during our marathon talk. On her first message direct from the Divine:
“I received a message in 1993. I was born again, Pentecostal, and I was in church when it happened. People were dancing, singing, banging on tambourines, the music

On the introduction of Jake, her spirit guide, in 1994:
Angelologist Chantel Lysette will headline a five-hour Angel Symposium from 2-7 p.m. Saturday, June 7 in a special presentation of Ancient Mysteries, Ancient Mysteries by the Minneapolis branch of the Theosophical Society at Spirit United Church, 3204 Como Ave. SE, Minneapolis. Also presenting are Dr. James Ulness, professor emeritus in psychology from Concordia College in Moorhead, Minn., and celtic harpist Bettie Seitzer, who will perform angelic music live at the event. Admission at the door is $35 for adults, $45 for couples or families and $30 for students, seniors or Theosophical Society members. was high and, as they say in the Pentecostal Church, the Holy Spirit was flowing. “And over all of that music, everything started to go in slow motion. It scared me, because I looked at everything and almost thought I was under water. All of the noise sounded muted — and then I heard a voice out of nowhere say, ‘Chantel, you will teach and you will heal. That is what you will do.’ And I knew who was talking. My head shot straight up. My eyes looked up to the ceiling
“I thought Jake was a devil or a demon, because that’s the way I was raised. I thought Jake was sent to pull me further away from God, where I was already struggling. Jake, who had been a person, stayed in dreamland for two years, and then he finally made contact with me in this realm in 1996. After that, he introduced me to Archangel Cassiel, and even though I recognized Cassiel as an archangel, I still wasn’t buying the whole angel bit. It wasn’t until Gabriel came into my life after my mother passed away that I was walking into something completely foreign. Archangel Gabriel first appeared to me as Gabrielle, in female form, but I was mentally in no mood for a female authority figure. I didn’t want a mother figure. I had already lost three mothers in the course of just a few years — all to cancer. So, Gabrielle left me that afternoon. Later that night he came back as Gabriel, in male form, and that is when it all started. “Gabriel came to me and told me, ‘You are to teach and to heal.’ “I said, ‘Wow, it’s been 10 years since I heard those words.’ “‘Yeah, you’ve been running. Did you think you could actually get away from us? You’ve run long enough.’” On Archangel Gabriel’s request to her:
“I butted heads with Gabriel for a long, long time, and he finally came to me and he told me to leave my job. I said, ‘You wait until I have no financial net, no cushion, and now you want me to leave my job when now I have a mortgage, I have a car, I’ve got school loans to pay back.’ And they said, ‘Yes.’ I was dumb enough to listen — and then I panicked, because I came across one of the greatest revelations of my life: When
you don’t have a job, you don’t have any money. My savings were depleting quicker than I anticipated, and I started looking for a job, but the whole time Gabriel kept telling me: ‘The next job you have does not require a resume.’ And those words will stay with me when I go to the grave. He repeated those over and over and over again. He said, ‘Chantel, the next job you get does not require a resume. Stop looking. Stop sending out resumes. Stop applying for jobs.’ I said, ‘Gabe, I have to. I need a steady income.’ ‘But, you’re going to be teaching and healing.’ ‘You know what, Gabe?’ And that’s when I got angry. We had an argument on a Wednesday night, and I said, ‘I need a steady paycheck and what you’re telling me does not give a steady paycheck. I can’t make money on what you want me to do. So, I tell you what, why don’t you stuff it and take God’s equation and His plan and go find someone else with less to lose and more time on their hands?’ And then Gabriel disappeared.” On how the angels created time for her to write:
“I didn’t see Gabriel for the rest of the week, and I kept doing what I was doing. On Sunday I went to church, I went to lunch with some friends, and I went to go see another set of friends later that night. When I got home, about 10:00, I went upstairs and I tried to take off my boots, but I couldn’t figure out how to get my boots off. They didn’t have laces or anything, you just kick them off, but I was standing holding onto the bannisters trying to figure out how those boots were to come off my feet, and I was stumbling. I said, ‘Okay, why don’t I know how to do this?’ The next thing I knew I became violently ill and everything went black. “When I woke up a few days later, that following Wednesday, I was in the hospital. It was 3:00 in the morning and Gabriel was standing at my bedside. I looked up at him and I said, ‘What happened?’ “He said, ‘I did what I had to do — now that we have your undivided attention….’ “‘What do you mean, you’ve got my undivided attention?’ “Gabriel said, ‘You’ll find out.’ “That morning, the doctors came in and they said I had had a stroke. And I became that person that I told Gabriel to go find because I lost everything. I lost my home. I lost my car. I lost all of my savings. I wound up homeless. …I became that person with nothing to lose and plenty of time on my hands. I was stuck in a bedroom for seven years with only my computer. I didn’t get out very much. I got out enough to go see a doctor when I could, but I was upstairs in a bedroom. I couldn’t do stairs very well, so I had no access to a kitchen, no access to laundry. “For seven years and it was just me and the angels, and it was a very angry me at that point, because before what I call Gabriel’s stunt, I had everything. I had just turned 31 and I had what people usually don’t get until they are 45 or 50, I had the corporate job that had a lot of promise and paid well. I had a beautiful 2,400-square-foot house. I had a gorgeous car and friends. I was active, and I was rarely home. I took vacations — the last one was 10 days to Florida. I went to Disney World and then flew out of Orlando to London to go visit a
friend in England and then flew back to Detroit. “And then, all of a sudden, boom. An entire decade of my life taken away. Stuck in a room. Even when I got out of that room into my own place, nothing changed because at that point I had become a reclusive person. So I became the person with nothing to lose and plenty of time on my hands. So, that’s how it came to be.” On how she lost her anger:
“I prayed for years after the stroke. I prayed hard, and my prayer was always, ‘God, please take this anger Chantel says angel energy is like away from me,’ because I would sit a neuron with tendrils and the ability and just simmer in anger all day. When to duplicate itself at will. I was awake, I was angry, and I never Pulbits.com Biological Science could understand why that anger never Picture Library went away. “I woke up on May 31, 2013 — after writing three angel books about compassion and trust, love, hope, facing God. I had written all three books with all of that anger brewing deep inside. “Early that morning, I sat up in bed and Michael was sitting at the foot of my bed and we just locked eyes and I started crying my eyes out, and I said, ‘God can’t take it from me, can He?’ “Michael said, ‘No. You know what you have to do.’ “As the sun started to rise, I let it go. And that’s when I realized that when we have issues like that, God can’t take them from us. We have to let it go. And now that date will stay with me forever. I just woke up that Archangel Cassiel is said to resemble morning and I said, ‘I let go of my Brandon Lee in The Crow. anger.’ It was keeping me so sick, physHe doesn’t do white. ically and emotionally. It was keeping wae.blogs.starnewsonline.com me from connecting with people because I was dealing with not just abandonment, but with betrayal issues. I trusted the angels just fine; it was people I had a problem with. I also knew that by writing these books, I would need to connect with people and I have got to let go of the issues of trust. You can’t be compassionate and be distrusting. You can’t truly love someone, yet sleep with one eye open. So, I had to let it go. I was not able to do that until last year.” On what angels actually are:
“History tells us that the word ‘angel’ literally means messenger, but from a spiritual perspective I have come to understand the angels as different facets of God. The Creator is a multifaceted diamond, and these angels are just representative of different parts of Him. The Creator is so massive that even when we are no longer in flesh, when our human minds are at the Spirit level, we cannot comprehend just how grand and complex the Creator really is. So
And as for wings, that’s just a human interpretation. Wings not required. photospin.com

JUNE’S FEATURED TOPIC: MY GREATEST SYNCHRONICITY
A RAINY SUNDAY AFTERNOON AND THE POWER OF SYNCHRONICITY by Susan Catherine Shapiro A rainy three-day holiday weekend in February, one very unusual church service, two young dogs, a country field, mud puddles, one business card, a phone call, and a tow truck. These are seemingly unrelated items, but together they created a perfect storm of events using the Power of Synchronicity at a level I have never seen before or since. Rio Linda, California: I offered to take care of three dogs for my friend Sharon so she and her husband could finally get away over a long weekend. The deal was that after I took care of them Sunday mid-day, I wouldn’t have to return because Sharon and her husband would be home by early Monday. “Just leave the key on the table and turn the lock on your way out,” Sharon had instructed. Before heading over to her place on Sunday, I attended my usual church service. That day the minister spoke about synchronicity and angels and how sometimes angels could even show up as animals with a keen sense for spotting a good person when they meet one. Point taken as I left the service to drive over to Sharon’s place. The rains had not let up much. It was cold and damp, and all I wanted to do was get the dogs fed and get home to warm my chilled body. After making sure they had clean water and fresh food, and interacting a bit with them, I decided to head out.

Preparing to close the gate at the end of the driveway as I drove out, the two younger dogs darted past me, down the road, and into a muddy field. They refused to come back when called. I didn’t know what to do other than close the gate to be sure the older dog wasn’t planning an escape, as well. Rummaging through my purse I found a business card that held every possible contact number for my friend, Randy. Using my cell phone, I called his home number and even though he was planning to drive to Reno for the afternoon, he changed his plans to help me. Realizing the dogs were not going anywhere, he suggested I drive to my apartment where he would pick me up and we’d head back to Sharon’s place in one vehicle. Arriving back by Sharon’s place, he parked his SUV alongside the road near the field where the dogs were. Barely stepping out of his vehicle, the dogs came barreling out of the muddy field to stand by his feet. Randy picked one dog up, carrying him under his arm as the other dog followed closely behind. My minister’s words echoed in my mind about how animals know when someone is a good person and about this concept of “synchronicity,” which was new for me. Randy and I had been friends for a while, watching each other go through some horrible relationships but never moving into our own dating relationship. It was all on me. I was scared because he really was a
super nice guy, which was so different than other men who had been part of my life. But realizing how those dogs ran to him without hesitation, I knew something was happening that was greater than me. The dogs now safely back in their yard, Randy and I walked back to his car, only to discover the vehicle was stuck in the mud! Seriously? We were in Rio Linda, which was pretty much like being in the middle of nowhere, and the SUV was stuck in the mud alongside the road. And it started raining again! My next thought was, “What else could possibly take place?” At that very moment, I saw it. Coming up a long, muddy country driveway was…a tow truck? I asked Randy if he could see it, because, at that moment, I wasn’t sure any of this was real. It was very real. The two men in the truck helped pull Randy’s SUV from the mud and refused any money. Could angels also be disguised as tow truck drivers? Seemingly unrelated items? Angels in disguise? The power of synchronicity brought Randy and me together. We’ve been married nearly 14 wonderful years now, thanks to angels and perfect synchronicity. a Susan (Sue) Catherine Shapiro is a student in the art of living with a curious mind. A PIECE OF PAPER BLOWING IN THE WIND by Marya Asher
There are those moments in life that you know are meant to be, when it feels like everything is in perfect harmony. Then there are those moments, certainly fewer and farther between, that stop you still in your tracks — a rare moment that leaves no uncertainty about whether it is a regular event or a life-changing one. Its synchronicity is multi-faceted. It is more than coincidence. It is obviously extraordinary. It’s clearly meant for you and, more often than not, you have no idea what it means. But it changes your life. The first one of these moments that I have had in my life came in the form of a piece of paper. I was in my late twenties. I had just transitioned out of an incredibly stressful job situation and had begun practicing Yoga regularly. My introduction to Yoga was a perfect harmony moment. I had heard it was great for relieving stress (which it was) and my new job just happened to be down the street from a Yoga studio, which weren’t quite as prolific at that time. I absorbed every class and workshop I could — and it did bring me an understanding of tranquility I had never known before. What I didn’t know is that would open a door to a wider world. I would later go on to attend Teacher Training at that studio, partner with its owner for a time, branch out into teaching other types of fitness classes, learn to practice Reiki and so much more. It was about a year into deep involvement in the practice of Yoga that a single piece of paper, and more importantly what was typed on that paper, literally rocked my world. At the time, we lived in St. Louis Park, not from from Excelsior Boulevard. We rented a duplex near a wetland in a quiet neighborhood. One morning as I took my dogs out before work, I found a single piece of paper, folded in half, that had blown right onto my doorstep. That happens. Garbage occasionally blows onto our lawns. Usually it would be an errant advertisement or piece of newspaper, but this plain white piece of paper had a message that felt like it had been typed for me and placed on my doorstep by some greater power. At the time, I knew it was special. It didn’t dramatically change the way I conducted that day, but it changed the way I looked at everything. Its
meaning — or my interpretations of it — have changed over the years. It has always held special meaning for me and reminded me of the path I started, even before I began practicing Yoga — the path I began when I started seeking answers to questions of my health and well-being, my spirituality, my relationships. Once you begin to ask, you open up a world of answers and questions. Once you begin to ask, it’s hard to stop asking. On that single, white piece of paper was simply a poem. A Rumi poem to be exact. I know it by heart. I still have that piece of paper, 14 years later. “The breezes at dawn have secrets to tell you Don’t go back to sleep! You must ask for what you really want. Don’t go back to sleep! People are going back and forth across the doorsill where the two worlds touch, The door is round and open Don’t go back to sleep!” a Marya Asher, E-RYT500, is a Yoga teacher, Reiki Level 2 practitioner, fitness instructor and business owner who is currently developing a Yoga program for kids and adults with ADD and Anxiety. WIDOW AT 44: HOW LOSING MY HUSBAND REDIRECTED MY LIFE IN A POSITIVE WAY by Barbara Laporte
My husband Phil died two weeks after our 9th anniversary, when I was 44 years old. If you had told me then that this experience would redirect my life in a positive way, I would have scoffed. After all, other than having my two children, up until then meeting and marrying Phil was the most positive thing I had experienced. At the time we met, I was a single mother living paycheck to paycheck, and most days life felt more challenging than joyful. One thing that provided a little ray of hope was the messages I heard at the church I was attending, where Phil was the minister. One Thanksgiving Eve service, Phil invited us to take a slip of paper and write down one thing for which we were grateful. He further suggested that it be something that maybe didn’t look like a blessing in the present moment. I looked over at my kids, who were arguing about which one of them could hold the hymnal, and I wrote down, “I am thankful for the opportunity to be a single mother.” Now, I didn’t exactly feel that way, but Phil assured us that if we gave thanks for situations that we’d like to change, we’d begin to see them differently, and we would indeed become grateful for them.
The very next Sunday, Phil asked if he could borrow my kids to see a concert at Orchestra Hall, and I joked, “Only if you take them for a month!” As it happened, we all went to the concert, our relationship grew, and Phil and I were married the following year. Eight years later, on my daughter’s 14th birthday, Phil had a surgery that revealed a mass in his stomach, and eight months after that, he made his transition. How did this redirect my life in a positive way? As part of my grief journey, I attend a grief group and met three wonderful friends who are still, 17 years later, an important part of my life. Prior to Phil’s passing, I had begun work on a book that describes the process of Treasure Mapping, a powerful process that uses visualization and affirmation to facilitate goal achievement. Meeting Phil was the result of my “relationship” Treasure Map, so after he died I wasn’t sure how to finish writing the book. Eventually, I realized that I needed to tell the story to demonstrate how it is possible to be grateful for the lessons and people in our lives, even when things don’t turn out the way that we hope or wish. So, I published the book and, along with one of my grief group friends, facilitated workshops on Treasure Mapping and Feng Shui. In so doing, I believe that we have helped a few people on their own journeys. Another outcome of sharing Phil’s illness and death experience with my children is that we became even closer, and that is a priceless gift. They have since blessed me with three adorable grandchildren, and that alone makes life a joyful experience! Last, but certainly not least, through another of my grief group friends (and as a result of another Treasure Map), I met a kind and wonderful man to whom I am now married. Seventeen years ago, when it felt like I was going through the “dark night of my soul,” little did I know how fulfilling life could be. Truly, I am blessed! a Barbara Laporte, M.A., is Director of Career Services in the School of Public Health at the University of Minnesota. THE BEAUTY OF SYNCHRONICITY by Debbie Lynn Laughlin When an ethereal parallel (the familiar but ever-so-random connection — human or not) enters our space, and the exchange of energy lights our path, it can be mind bending. (I call it a cosmic WTF.) Some say it is fate; some say it is a coincidence; some simply say, (as coined by Jung) “synchronicity.” But what is this interaction? The Urban Dictionary defines synchronicity as a magical connection of “coincidental” events that when you point them out, it makes you more intelligent than everyone else. The Standard Dictionary defines it as “the simultaneous occurrences of events that appear significantly related but have no discernible causal connection.” Personally, I stopped trying to understand it long ago and I don’t really believe in coincidences (I just accept them) but, they still make me go hummm — and I do get there is something out there greater than what I can

wrap my head around; to me, it is nothing short of magical. I have learned this: If we pay attention, we can construct and witness the wonderment and connection(s) every day. Situations show up just as we need them, be it people, places, things (whether we like it or not), and these situations are what we have conjured up out of longing and necessity. Simply put, they are our life lessons in full bloom. We create them, beckon them in and we make the magic happen through a series of daily choices — millions of them. Every decision is quickly at work making our future, and the energy behind this is immense. So when something appears to be serendipitous, it is quite revealing to take a step back and look at the resolve that brought us to the moment — everything has a moment attached to it — that can take our breath away. They are etched in the cellular memory and ignite the passion within. The
attached synchronicity is an opening for betterment, and perhaps the best way to hold it (instead of trying to figure it out) is softly and delicately. Give it space, give it honor, and give it a Yes. However, a good posture in mindfulness is preferable because a so-called happenstance situation was actually constructed long ago…. It was made in the mind and in the deepest place of the soul. It is a heart truth and the situation will play out as a vital, integral part of our life. It doesn’t need an origin (our choices are endless) and it doesn’t need to be defined (just leave the objectivity out.) It isn’t good, or bad. It just is. Typically, we don’t realize or acknowledge how routinely and how much control we actually have over these situations. On top of this, if blame is removed from the equation and accountability is added, coming to peace with what has happened can bring a sense of contentment. This peace refreshes what we already know, and the frequency of fortuity increases simply because we allowed it to enter.
INVISIBLE THREADS by Rev. Richard W. Curney Vicki and I met again for the first time last December. We dated as teenagers 47 years ago. Vicki was reading The Edge last December and came across my name. She emailed me with the question: “Are you the same Richard Curney I dated in high school?” I don’t know if I’m the same 19-year-old she knew, but I do know that I’ve always used only one password on my laptop. That password is the pen name I made up to write my first love poem all those years ago, a love poem to Vicki. We’ve shared stores of lives richly lived over the last few months. She sings a phrase from an old song, and it is almost always a song I know. Dozens and dozens of dusty rock’n’roll tunes have filled our nights and days together. In the ’70s, Vicki was given the Sanskrit name Karuna — which translates as compassion — by Swami Vieda (then Dr. Usharbudh Arya). My spiritual journey led me to take on the Sanskrit middle name of Ahimsa (do no harm) at about the same time. As teenagers in 1967, we were photographed by the Minneapolis Star Tribune while traipsing along a waterfall on the Willow River near Hudson, Wisconsin. Though we never crossed paths since, we both revisited that waterfall many times and consider it sacred ground. I’ve asked my kids to scatter my cremated ashes behind the falls. We both became vegetarians within the same year. Some friends and I started a little vegetarian restaurant on Hennepin Avenue. Vicki remembers eating there. Vicki is from Hudson, and I am from St. Paul, but we were born in the same hospital. Vicki and her former husband started a successful “hippie business” (candle making).
That is the beauty of inner receiving or, if you will, the synchronicity of it all. It works with us, because when we are fully present, we are participating. And as we come to meet, welcoming the mystical miracles of the simplest things, the synchronicities will no longer be random. They will envelope us and alter the way we look at our daily conditions. They are meditative and wise, gifted to us by an omnipresent call. This is a higher level of acceptance. It is a bigger view with serene sensitivity and a larger intensity of our being — and none of this should ever be taken for granted. Yes, you and I have had a hand in co-creating every happenstance, connection and event. Note: It is no coincidence you are reading this now! So with a smile and a nod, perhaps a thank you (and no more surprises) think of synchronicity as affirmative action in a spiritual sense. It is backed by a Universal intelligence and a whole lot of love. It is an easier way to live when broader acceptance is in place, and we all become wiser for it. Although this doesn’t totally explain connectivity and magic, it makes it a lot more fun to foster our
My former wife and I started a successful “hippie business” (natural foods). We attended some of the same concerts and gatherings. We both sat in the front row of a Doors concert in 1970 but never knew the other was a few seats away. We both had booths at the original Renaissance Fair in Jonathan, Minn., and again the next year, but time had not yet ripened for our reunion. Vicki’s daughter’s current roommate babysat my daughter when they were kids. My son-in-law’s first apartment was on the same floor of the building where Vicki currently lives in Prior Lake. Last year, one week after my divorce papers were finalized, Vicki picked up The Edge and found my name. Larger powers of love guided the recipient of that first love poem to bring us together at just the right time. Now, I write another poem to her nearly every day. a Rev. Richard W. learning and get to know synchronicity on a first name basis. Introduce yourself…then enjoy the ride. I wrote this the other night, and the next morning I picked up the book I am reading (Edgar Cayce’s My Life as a Seer). Within a couple of pages I am reading this: “Do we not with each decision set in motion laws that must carry through on their course? Is there not a destiny shaped for us by the deeper desires of the recesses of our hearts” Synchronicity? Angels continued from page 17 we get facets of Him that help us along on our spiritual journey and help us fulfill our Divine purpose.” On how angels really look:
“Angels have two forms: their natural form and their human form. For the longest time, they only had their natural form. They appear as orbs of light. They are pure energy, just like we are pure energy, and they operate at a very high vibration. “In my books, and especially in The Angel Code, I talk about energy signatures. …Each angel has an energy signature that you can literally feel. Even if you can’t see Michael, when you feel his energy you know it’s him. You can tell his energy from Uriel’s energy, Uriel from Gabriel, Gabriel from Raphael and so on. “In my first book, I said they looked a little like jellyfish, because I couldn’t figure out any other way to describe them because they are orbs of light that are pulsing and kind of changing shape a little bit. They are very fluid, like mercury, and they have these beautiful tendrils that are spiking out and wisping. It’s not really a jellyfish, but I guess it was the only thing I could think of at the time. Then one day I saw a very beautiful image of a neuron, and I said, ‘Oh, my God! That’s it! That’s the image right there!’ “As far as size, I would say look at the Sun and you’ve got the average size of an angel — and that is only as big as they allow me to see. Now, I’m sure they’re much bigger than that. I don’t think that they really can be measured, just as the Creator cannot be measured. “Archangel Metatron — the Scribe of Heaven, who keeps the Akashic Records, which detail every life and every deed ever done by every single being in this universe — is the tallest angel in Heaven. I asked Archangel Michael and said, ‘Mike, how tall is Metatron? Give it to me in feet, yards, whatever, man, help me out.’ I was writing The Angel Code at the time, and he said, ‘Metatron needs to be measured in light years.’ Metatron is associated with the term ‘little Yahweh’ or ‘little God.’” On shadow angels:
“There are angels that are called shadow angels and they are dark, but they are not evil. They are made of the same light and the same energy. The only reason I call them shadow angels and I call them dark is because of their demeanor. Shadow angels are archangels who hang out in the background. …They help out by weaving in and out of the shadows or weaving in and out of nighttime or dreamscape. They include Archangel Cassiel, Raziel, and an angel I will introduce in my next book, Sachiel. These guys are awesome. They don’t dress like typical Hallmark card angels. “Archangel Michael said one time Cassiel
22

would not wear white if his life depended on it, so Cass walks around in all black, head to toe. He has raven black hair that is just spiked out in all directions and really long, these very beautiful piercing gray eyes and he wears these black tank tops and ripped jeans and a pair of Doc Martin boots or military style boots. Sometimes he wears a leather trench coat. I have told people, ‘You want to know what Cassiel looks like? Go back and watch the movie The Crow from 1994, the role played by the late Brandon Lee.” On what separates her from other angel authors:
“I don’t put the angels up on a cloud. Do I make them out to be beautiful, Divine, creatures? Of course they are! I’ve told many a lady how incredibly hot Michael is — the angels know it, and Michael eats that up. In fact, Michael created the rock star persona. “What I do is make the angels tangible and accessible. When we see that there are angels out there that match certain aspects of our lives and certain aspects of our own personalities, it makes it so much easier to see them in our everyday lives and know that they are there. It also makes it easier for us to connect with them. I have learned over the last 20 years that the first words to come out of people’s mouths are, ‘Chantel, I just can’t believe that I can talk to Michael or Gabriel. Why would they even bother?’ It becomes an issue of worthiness, the ‘I am not worthy’ mentality. “Yes, you are worthy enough to speak with an archangel! You are a child of the Creator, ergo, a sibling of Michael. You’re Michael’s baby brother.” On how many of us have seen an angel:
“Not only do I believe that every single person has seen an angel, not just in spiritual form, but I believe we’ve all seen them in physical form, too. Angels will take on physical forms, too, to test us. Sandelphon often does that. Sandelphon is the Archangel of Love and Charity, and he will take on the human form of a homeless person to test the person’s charity when they walk by. He will take on the form of a beggar who asks you for your change. …It’s not so much a test of passed and failed. It’s just a lesson to be thrown at you to teach you to be more compassionate to others and what’s just, and to be more connected and to show love to other people.” On misconceptions about angels:
“A funny misconception is that they have wings. Angels don’t have wings as they are always pictured. …To some people the angels will appear with wings, but I think the angels just appear in such a luminous way that people mistake their aura and the light they radiate as wings. “There is a misconception that angels
are here to protect us. You’ve seen the angels that are printed on St. Christopher medals that we keep in our cars to protect us from having an accident. Don’t put so much stock in that medal. Just because you have it hanging from your rearview mirror doesn’t mean you’re never going to have a car accident. “Archangel Michael may be watching over you, no doubt, but if it’s in your life script for you to be in a car accident, then that’s what’s going to happen. There are dominoes that need to be tipped in what Michael calls God’s Great Equation. If you are supposed to be in a car accident, Michael is either going to stand back and let it happen, or he’s just going to cause it.” On good angels and bad angels:
“The biggest misconception about angels is that there are good angels and there are bad angels. There are no evil angels or fallen angels or demons in a hell roasting us on a stick with garlic butter and a dash of sherry. It doesn’t exist. It only exists in our minds. We have to push past good versus bad. Everything is subjective. What I consider good, you may consider evil. What you consider great, I might consider horrible. “On ‘Coast to Coast AM,’ George Noory insisted on asking how I know that I am not being tricked. How do I know that these angels I’m talking to aren’t demons? “As humans, we come bundled with inner demons. They are essential to teaching us life lessons. We have to fight them throughout our spiritual journey. Satan is our ego that puffs us up and makes us arrogant and tells us that we’re better than someone — or he’ll tear us down and tell us we’re worthless. It’s the same ego. That pendulum can swing either way…. “The angels do not work within the terms of good and evil. They only work by one law and one law alone: purpose. That’s it. As Gabriel put it, ‘Whatever works.’ “I have friends who were staring down those tornadoes in Alabama last year, and when you go online and read the articles, you find the idiotic comments that are written by people who say, ‘Well, if God is so great, and God made tornadoes, why is he doing this?’ You want to know why? Because there is a purpose to be served here — a lesson that needs to be learned. We don’t know what that lesson is. No preacher can stand in the pulpit and say the reason hurricane Katrina took out New Orleans was because of their acceptance of LGBT. We can’t say that, because no one human being knows what individual lessons we had to learn. “The lessons I need to learn in my life are between me and God and the angels that are helping me along. No one can know what God’s intentions are except the people who learned a lesson from it. It’s all part of God’s great equation. The experience is
going to affect each family in a different way. It affects the kids as they grow up. It will mold them into who they eventually turn into as adults. “For those people who lost their homes in Alabama, it’s a tragedy. For me, I lost everything, but in a different way. I didn’t have a literal tornado come through my life, but I did have a metaphorical tornado come through by way of a stroke and I learned a lesson in my way. The great people of Alabama had a lesson to learn in their own way.” On the illusion of choice:
“People ask when disasters and tragedies happen, ‘Where is God?’ God was there. And people might say, ‘Well, that’s cruel.’ No. You signed up for this, and that’s where that illusion of choice comes in. “…We walked into this life with a script after having co-authored it with the angels and with God. Gabriel told me, ‘I tried warning you that this was going to be a rough go. I told you it was going to be hard.’ “When we’re in Heaven — and I use that word because that’s just the word everybody recognizes — we are of higher knowledge and we know that when we come into this human existence, it is just a dream. It’s a video game. That’s it. We look at the script and say, ‘I can handle that. I’ll be fine.’ Because we know our own potential. There, we haven’t been fooled. We haven’t been brainwashed into thinking we are lesser beings and that we’re not immortal. Unfortunately we can’t bring that knowledge with us, because that would be cheating the game. “The only thing that is guaranteed in life, spiritually and physically, is that we’re going to live the script. Now, what’s not guaranteed is whether or not we learn the lesson. That is not a guarantee. We may go back home and say, ‘Ah, man, I really dropped the ball on that one.’ And the angels say, ‘Yeah, you did. You’re

going to have to go and do that again. You don’t have to do it right now, and you don’t have to live the same life over, but you’re going to have to go and you’re going to have to learn that lesson eventually.’ “When we come into bodies, we’re strapped in for the ride and there’s no getting off until the ride is over. I liken it to a roller coaster. We get on and we have fun and that’s the way life is. We go through it and we go through the hairpin turns, and we do the 90-foot drops at an 85-degree angle, and then we’re shooting off at 70 miles per hour. Then we get off the ride. We survived it, and we’re yelling, ‘Hurrah,’ and we’re saying, ‘Let’s do it again!’ That is the human mentality on the spiritual realm. We look at this as a ride that we get on.” On time:
“One day I said to Gabriel, ‘Give me an idea of time.’ “‘Time is an illusion.’ “‘Yeah, but dude, we here in this reality, this is what we focus on. Time means everything to us.’ Gabriel, just help me understand why time is an illusion.’ “‘We don’t use it on this side.’ “‘But, if I live a 100 years, am I asleep for 100 years? “‘No. For an average life in this reality of 85 years, on the other side at Home it is a 15-minute nap.’ “That’s why we keep coming back. It’s only 15 minutes. We haven’t been gone long, so we jump back and forth into these lives.” Angels continued on page 24
Fast continued from page 9 a sincere purpose in my heart: I wanted to fast and pray for a way of life. Even so, the ego part of me expected great visions and special effects. In fact, something more spectacular had taken place. I had fully surrendered any notion of control, admitting, at last, my utter inability to live without the guidance, help and compassion of the Spirits. That was the true beginning of my journey, the moment my greatest and dearest Spirit Guide appeared. I would fast more times after that; numbers do not matter. What matters is that I set aside time to devote exclusively to connecting with the Guides. I learned there are beautiful Spirits who proffer help and guidance through this treacherous and brilliant human journey back toward Oneness. The conscious mind and false personality are not the parts of us that perceive the true essence of experience. Rather, it is our human heart. Once we reside there, the flowering of our soul accelerates, and we grow into the positive Beings of Light that, in essence, we are. a Janet Michele Red Feather, J.D., M.A., has taught literature and composition for 18 years at the university, state, tribal and community college levels. Angels continued from page 23 On how angels can care for everyone:
“Last January, I thought I was having a heart attack and wound up in the emergency room. Finally, I got into my own room so they could start doing tests, and there was a television in there. A nurse came in and said, ‘Chantel, you are going to be here all day, so why don’t you turn on the TV. You’re going to get bored.’ “I said, ‘It is never boring in my head. I am perfectly fine.’ I was having a lot of pain, so the first thing they want to give you is a heavy duty medication. So I’m watching the nurse, already knowing what she’s putting in that IV — and it hit hard. “Michael was already standing against the wall. He wasn’t in his usual jovial mood, and I realized that when the angels are in the hospital, they take on a whole different persona. Michael had his arms folded and his leg bent with his foot against the wall, just standing on one leg kind of looking over me. Then I realized Gabriel and Raphael were outside in the hall. “People wonder if angels have to take turns going from one person in need to the next. Do I get Michael today and my friend gets Michael tomorrow? Remember when I said that the angels are orbs of light and they have those tendrils going in all different directions? Those tendrils give off tiny particles. They look like golden or white specks of glowing dust. Those individual specks of dust can turn into a whole other Archangel Michael. So if Michael releases one of those specks, he turns into another Michael. “With 7 billion of us on this planet, if we all need Michael at the same time, Michael can divide easily into 7 billion Michaels — and they’re all of one mind, but they can all work with each of us individually. That should give you an idea of an angel’s capacity. Take that and multiply it across countless realities and countless human souls. That’s how massive angels are, that they are able to do that.” On how people who would like to connect with the angels can get the most out of their
experience with them?
“I had a lady come up to me at a book signing, and I could just tell by her energy and the look on her face that she had a lot going on in her life, and that she was carrying a heavy load. She got really close to me and she whispered, ‘Look, Chantel, I’m going to read your book, but I need to know. Can you give me a shortcut if there is any? How do I connect with the angels? I need them now.’ “‘Yeah. Come closer, because I’m only going to say this once because this is very complex and you’ve got a lot of other people behind you in line, so listen carefully.’ “‘Do I need to take notes?’ “‘No, not really. Just listen to me. You’ll be able to remember this. Are you ready?’ “‘Yeah.’ She was listening intently. “‘When you need Michael this is what you do. Now, watch me carefully.’ Then I said, ‘Hey, Mike!’ “She just stared at me and said, ‘I don’t get it.’ “‘That’s what you do.’ “‘Wait. So to connect with them I just need to call?’ “‘You call with your heart and your soul, and they will come. But, you’ve got to be ready, because when you call on an angel, you better be ready to work. You’ve got to be serious about it. Don’t call on an angel and say, I just want you to fix my life. Because they’re not coming to fix your life. They are coming in there to help you learn your lesson — and a lot of these lessons that we learn in life are hard and cruel and we suffer through them. So, if you’re going to call on them, you better be darn ready to do some footwork, because it’s going to be in your hands to push forward on your spiritual journey.’ “Talk to them every day. That’s the key, and that’s what you neglect. Talk to them like you talk to your best friend. It doesn’t have to be a prayer. Have casual conversations with them. Talk about the weather. Talk about your job. Talk about your family. Talk about what’s deep in your soul. Have conversations with them every day. …They become someone that you love deeply and you know
that no matter what happens, they will be there for you.” On how angels respond to prayer:
“I have an event coming up where we’re going to be doing an angel healing circle. I will tell everybody that when we go into this, we are going into it with the intention of healing, whether it’s mind, body or soul. We are going into it with healing. Will the angels be there? Absolutely. Will they help us? Most certainly. But, what we have to understand is that angels don’t always help us in the ways that we want. “Prayers aren’t always answered with rainbows and daffodils. Sometimes prayers are answered with storms, thunderclouds and a deluge. It never comes the way we expect it to come, but we get it, just not in the packaging we always expected. “…There’s something I write in my books that I call the emergency room syndrome. The majority of us only pray or go to our angels when there is trouble. We wait until we get hurt — and then we are focused, man. We are praying like there is no tomorrow. Ultimately, though, that wastes energy, because in those situations you are panicked — and when you are panicked and you are stressed and you are worried out of your mind, connecting with the angels is nearly impossible, because you can’t hear. You can’t focus. You can’t connect. “…So, that’s why I tell people, ‘Don’t wait until all hell breaks loose to connect with the Divine. Connect with the Divine every day. Then you have already established a very solid, very clear connection, and you can listen and get the guidance — and more importantly, you get the comfort that you need and the endurance.” a Learn more about Rev. words of wisdom by Nadine Penny Tickle your dad’s funny bone this June with a joke jamboree, a comic-movie marathon and a family three-legged race and make this Father’s Day lol-memorable. Laughter is a gift that is great for the heart, mind and soul as it grounds us, connects us to others, lifts our spirits and reminds us not to take life too seriously. And if dad is feeling under-par, research shows that a diet of giggles and guffaws will help reduce stress, boosts the immune system by increasing infection-fighting antibodies and triggers the release of endorphins for improved well-being, too. So set your dad a-snickering and a-sniggering this month and make it the happiest (and healthiest) of holidays! a Nadine Penny attained her M.A. from the University of Denver in Counseling Psychology.
