We are spiritual souls and we need to not ever forget this again, those lucky enough to be graced with these words of encouragement.” — Robert Brooks from “More Than Who We Are?” (September 2019, The Edge) COMING IN NOVEMBER, The Edge will present a gathering for these auspicious times. Edge Expo 2020, launching November 7-8 at Earle Brown Heritage Center in Brooklyn Center, will reestablish The Edge as host of the premiere exposition on body, mind and soul in the Upper Midwest.

Two decades ago when Whole Life Expo left the Twin Cities after presenting big shows for three consecutive years, an opportunity existed for someone to continue showcasing our holistic community in a big way. The Edge stepped forward, took the reins and created Edge Life Expos. The events succeeded, and yet, the growing cost of presenting big-name speakers contributed to a higher cost for exhibitors each year. When our holistic businesses, healing practitioners, psychics and mediums and spiritual organizations cannot afford to be present, it defeats the purpose of the event.

I praise the late Gary Beckman for taking the initiative to give The Edge community a place to showcase its gifts and talents. And in the same spirit, I welcome our opportunity now, led by Edge co-publisher Cathy Jacobsen, to reboot the experience by lowering the cost of participating so our healers and intuitives and small businesses can once again thrive for two days under one roof.

their journeys and experiences — and love.

We envision an event where a newcomer to everything metaphysical and spiritual enters the doors and is greeted by vendors who speak to his or her soul. Yes, they may be displaying brilliant quartz crystals or stunning aura photos or explaining the intricacies of our chakras, but simultaneously they are welcoming a soul to a new experience with an open heart, and his or her initial trepidation about dipping toes into uncharted waters evaporates and transmutes into trust.

And likewise, we envision the many workshops that will be free to attendees each day will have the same effect.

Lectures can be boring. Workshops that welcome attendees to an experience can be transformative.

Edge Expo 2020 is an opportunity for lightbearers to come together and connect in all ways, and in so doing they remind us to shine our light and treasure our eternal soul.

Many years ago, probably 30 or so, I walked into a frame shop with a garage sale find, a delicate print featuring three women wearing traditional Thai hats playing musical instruments. As I was waiting to have this piece framed, I discovered a unique, Art Deco-styled print for sale. It featured a being holding light in his hands. And beneath the soothing illustration were the words to what I later learned was a statement called

“Awake!” This piece, “The Morning Star — The Lightbearer,” also known as “a picture with a soul,” was commissioned in the 1920s by Eugene Fersen, author of Science of Being (www.scienceofbeing.com) and founder of the Lightbearers Organization.

This morning, while pondering the upcoming expo, I again read the words under the print: “Men of the earth, brothers in eternity, Awake! Shake your souls. The hour so long waited for, The promise hour, has come. Over the dark firmament of suffering humanity is rising the morning star heralding the day when you will understand that man’s most sacred duty is to be man. That is, to manifest Life, Intelligence, Truth and Love. There is no higher aim, no vaster problem. And you who realize this will break the fetters with which ignorance and fear have bound unconscious humanity. Will stand up free and know yourselves to be the eternal manifestation of the unmanifest witness of the absolute sons of that great all whom you call God.” Overlooking the use of “men” and “sons” to reflect all of humanity, I am inspired every single time I read these words, for our collective goal is to release ignorance and fear and become conscious.

It is time to “shake our souls” and reawaken to them. It is time to embody our souls. It is time to listen — and truly grok, understand intuitively — where our souls are leading us. Let’s move forward together toward the collective manifestation of what is to be created. What would love do?

Heron Diana presents a Self-healing Workshop Conscious Living, Conscious Dying coach Heron Diana will present a new workshop, “Walking a Heart-Centered Path to Healing,” which will clarify the difference between curing and healing and is designed to help people break barriers of selfdoubt and discover the power and resources they have within for healing.

“Whether it is healing from an illness or trauma, people come to me unsure of their part in the healing process,” Heron says. “In this workshop, they will learn skills that will allow them to understand where they are stuck and how old patterns hold them back. These are key steps towards self-healing.”

“Walking a Heart-Centered Path to Healing,” co-facilitated with Bea VueBenson, LMFT, will allow participants to experience the freedom to create what they need for self-healing. This workshop will be offered from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 29, and again on March 28 at 7400 Lyndale Ave. S., Minneapolis.

With her early background as a medic and hospice worker, and later working with people with AIDS, Heron has keen insight into what prevents people from believing they can heal themselves. She also has personal experience in overcoming emotional and physical trauma.

Whenever You’re Ready From the Heart

BY ALAN COHEN I MET A FELLOW WHO had been diagnosed with a rare debilitating disease. For seven years Stan consulted with over a hundred doctors, submitted to endless tests, ingested more than a hundred pills daily, and tried a wide range of treatments, none of which helped. He kept losing weight until he was down to 120 pounds.

A final experiment with a risky drug failed. His doctor told him, “You will soon die.”

At that moment Stan got fed up with depending on doctors to save him and instead he turned within. He affirmed over and over and over again, “I am healed.” After six weeks of intensive introspection and affirmation, Stan began to feel better and his symptoms started to disappear. He gained weight. Eventually he was restored to perfect health and he felt fantastic.

Now Stan looks radiant, lives a full life, works from home, and spends many valued hours a day with his wife and children. He is a walking miracle.

A Course in Miracles urges us to remember, “I am under no laws but God’s.” It tells us that the many laws we believe we are subject to, such as nutrition, economics and reciprocity, are not the ultimate dynamics that govern well-being.

There are vaster, deeper universal principles that make our lives work. When we discover and live by them, we enjoy a freedom that lesser laws cannot deliver.

The Course explains that it is the mind of the patient that chooses to be healed, or not.

We enlist doctors and medicine as agents, or permission slips, to serve our inner choice for wellness or sickness. Such professionals and methods are not the source of our health, but channels through which life force delivers our well-being. We can also access healing energy directly, without employing an external agent.

This principle does not discredit doctors, who help in huge ways. More fundamentally, it empowers patients.

I know a massage therapist who was assigned to work on a terminal cancer patient in a hospital. Emma supposedly had a week to live.

While Jane was massaging Emma, the patient revealed that she had had a fight with her sister 25 years earlier, and the two had not spoken since that time. Jane used some coaching skills to help Emma admit that she really loved her sister and wished to reconcile with her. She decided to phone her and make amends.

A week later Jane was in the hospital and she passed Emma’s room. To her astonishment, the woman was standing before a mirror, dressed nicely, applying makeup.

“What’s happened to you?” asked Jane, amazed at Emma’s vitality.

“I’m going home,” she replied. “I had a heartto-heart talk with my sister, and we made up.

I can hardly describe the relief I felt in releasing this burden. The next time I went for x-rays,

the doctors found no sign of cancer, and released me.”

We have been taught that external conditions determine our state of mind; favorable conditions make us well and happy, and unfavorable conditions damage or depress us. Yet, it is the other way around: It is our thoughts that create or attract conditions, and our internal choices that make us happy or not.

While some people interpret this dynamic as a cause for guilt or blame for negative events, it is actually supremely empowering. If in the past you have used the power of the mind to cause problems, you can redirect that very power to create solutions. As author Mike Dooley says, “Blame is not in the vocabulary of a spiritually evolved person.”

While it appears that things happen to us, they actually happen from us. If everything is a choice, why would some people choose illness?

No one, of course, would consciously choose illness, but there are subconscious motivations that might make illness attractive. You get out of going to school, work or other activities you would rather not do. You get attention, sympathy and favors. You get money. You get to be “right” or gain revenge by blaming someone who hurt you. You get to “prove” that your body has power over your life and mind.

This is not to say that people who get sick do not deserve time off or emotional or financial support; compassion sees beyond blame and gives love where it is called for. Yet, at a deeper level choice plays a far greater role in health than most people recognize.

If you are dealing with a lingering physical, emotional, financial or relationship challenge, consider how an attitudinal upgrade might accelerate your healing process. Healing functions at an entirely different frequency than illness. Fear, anger, resentment and blame match and sustain the illness frequency. Love, including self-love, joy, creativity, passion and forgiveness, match and sustain the healing frequency. Your radio cannot be tuned to two different stations at the same time.

Self-liberation: Opening to Your Power A Pleiadian Message

BY CHRISTINE DAY BELOVED ONES, WE GREET YOU. Your third-dimensional story continues to unfold as your planet undergoes a rapid recalibration since the opening of the 2020 vibrations. There has been an upswing in the third-dimensional drama, which is being held within the veils of illusion.

These higher vibrations that are entering Earth have been instrumental in creating further drama within your world. The result of this upheaval is being caused from the higher realm light frequency entering your planet. Anything that is not of Truth is being unearthed through the illumination of this light, which is destined to continue to build in intensity. This is what we call the “New Dawning” era for your planet.

A creation energy has birthed within this higher framework of expanded light. Your planet’s signature vibration has undergone a complete shift, and it is now able to hold you within its newly constructed radiant form. These active creation energies are designed to enable you to be supported in completing your individual missions.

The movement of your planet’s illumination is still in its building phase.

There is a continuous momentum within this pulsing wave of light consciousness emanating through your Earth’s core. This wave contains a heartbeat-like motion that is flowing outwards from the magnetic core of the Earth. Continuous waves are being released across your Earth plane, enabling this higher light consciousness to be forged throughout all life on the planet.

These vibrational energies, described as multidimensional expressions of creation energy, are re-emerging now in your reality to create reconnection and renewal for the Earth’s energetic systems.

As these waves flow out from the core, old patterns that have been held in place for lifetimes are releasing. These patterns have kept the illusion firmly anchored.

As the old, dense energies are lifted off, dimensional doorways are being illuminated, revealed and reopened to those of you on the path. They have always been active on Earth, however now they are being lit up and made easily accessible to you.

GOD CONSCIOUSNESS You are similarly being drawn and reconfigured within this energetic pulsing flow into a pure web of your own God consciousness state. This is a natural process that manifests first within your heart cells and then radiates throughout your systems to interact within your brain cells, and brain synapses. These shifts are strongly impacting your nervous system as you are being moved and realigned through to this next transitional step. You are being re-orientated to higher realm dimensional settings. This is an essential aspect of your rebirth.

Know that this process is a step towards your transmutation. This is not an easy transition and it will take time for you to fully orient within all of the necessary multidimensional components. We wish to remind you of your pre-agreement to be here on the Earth plane during this glorious time. Many higher states of reality are being made re-accessible to you once more as you are returning yourself to a place of knowing.

Your role right now is to bring all of your focus back to yourself during this aspect of your transition. Your heart is at the center of this pure rebirth process. As you take individual moments to fully align, make sure you bring all of your focus within your heart. As you choose to take this action of reconnection to your heart, monumental shifts will take place within your life.

This is a step-by-step process as you claim your heart aligning one moment at a time. Each time you choose to claim your heart and bring all of your awareness within your heart, transformation can take place within your entire system. A quickening begins to take effect as you choose moments to take this action of conscious reconnection. You are consciously claiming your own multidimensionality. This conscious action by you is what will make the difference in your ability to accelerate your integration and realignments to the higher reality states.

LETTING GO Another essential part for the acceleration of your individual metamorphic process is to move into a state of conscious letting go. By “letting go” you are allowing yourself to enter the doorways that are here for you. Letting go allows you to shed the old, outworn belief systems that you have chosen to hold onto from the past. Letting go is the action of consciously birthing yourself out of the old mold into the new frequencies of living. This liberating action propels you forward.

This action of “letting go” is your conscious willingness to reach past the illusion and align into these energetic states. It is another aspect of the essential ingredients to your awakening process. Through this avenue your heart can transform and dimensionally align on another level.

True letting go involves holding your heart and utilizing the conscious breath, a breath in and out of the mouth, like a deep sigh. You need to breathe in the mouth, and out of the mouth. The power of this breath is that it bypasses the ego mind’s ability to hold on and the energy of what you are letting go leaves the body completely. The action created by the conscious breath is to release layers of old issues from the cells of the body.

You don’t have to use the conscious breath all of the time, just one conscious breath an hour — or sometimes when you are actively working on an issue, one conscious breath every 60 seconds. The conscious breath says two things: “Yes, I am willing to let go” and “Yes, I am willing to receive my light.” As issues and density leave the cells of the body, light can come into the cells.

HUMAN AND SACRED ASPECTS Another important aspect of your unfolding process is be aware, and to be actively engaged, with the two very diverse expressions of your makeup: your human aspect and your sacred aspect, which exist simultaneously. You require both parts of yourself to realign yourself fully. Hold a mutual respect for both parts of yourself, with an emphasis on deepening your realignment to the sacred aspect of you. Through the love that is carried within your sacred self, healing can take place within the human part. How to Talk to Angels

THERE ARE SO MANY beautiful ways to communicate with your angels. You can share with them what you are worried about and ask them to help you with all kinds of things that you might be struggling with right now. You can talk to them casually all day long, whenever you are in the car, in the shower, meditating or going to bed. Anytime is a good time to talk to angels.

As a matter of fact, you really don’t even have to speak the words out loud.

You can just think them, and they can still hear you. Angels are cool that way. Having heart-to-heart conversations with your angels throughout the day — whether out loud or just in your thoughts — is highly recommended, because amazing things can happen for you just from doing that.

Some people feel guilty about asking for help from the angels. If that is true for you, know that there’s absolutely nothing to feel bad or guilty about. The good news is that angels absolutely love helping you!

The bad news is that they really can’t help you if you don’t ask.

Humans have what’s called free will.

From my experience, the angels can’t intervene and help you if you don’t invite them into your life for support. Moral of the story? Ask, ask, ask, and then keep on asking.

An invocation is a slightly more formal way to communicate with the angels. I am teaching it to you because it is the most powerful way that I know of to enlist their help.

Most people have heard the word prayer, but not too many people have heard of or understand the word invocation. I am going to focus on invocation, because the energy of invocation is quite different from that of prayer and can be even more powerful.

Prayer is the act of calling upon a divinity outside yourself to intercede on your behalf to solve whatever problems you are having. Praying is an amazing way to connect with the divine and find peace and solace.

you to this reconnection to your Higher Self that is accessed within your heart.

This has been the design set in place as part of your enlightenment process. This plan is for you to bridge the gap between both parts of yourself, bringing a sense of love, compassion and patience from your sacred aspect to your humanity. This action of self-acceptance is really the action of selflove. Currently you are living in two distinct realities simultaneously, one of illusion and one of Truth. This action described above is your self-realization process.

Your sacred self holds the keys to love, and through this love your experience within your third-dimensional world can transform. Through this love you are enabling yourself to let go of the drama and suffering that is created through the misperceptions of the ego mind, your human aspect. Ultimately, you will be able to simply witness the drama and still support your human aspect to let go within any living experience — and at the same time move into a more peaceful existence within your world.

You are all going to come to a successful completion of this transitional phase as you enable yourselves to navigate your way home to the higher frequency consciousness of Self. This is an absolute certainty.

A sacred illumination is now surrounding you to assist you in this assimilation of yourself. This flow is designed to reposition

SELF-LIBERATION This is your time for self-liberation as you reopen into your unlimited power.

Your successful transition depends on you choosing to actively claim your heart reconnection. This must be a conscious process set in motion by you. You have free will in this lifetime and the desire and design of coming home must be self-driven through the pure force that exists within your heart.

Your entire process is all about reconnection and reunion back to the multidimensional reality to home, where you realign to the natural aspect of your sacred frequency of God light. Through the profound elements activated by the Saturn/Pluto conjunction in January, a series of multidimensional doorway openings were re-formed and recreated — and made accessible for you to return now.

The spaces within your Earth plane carry the links to multidimensional expressions of the sacred. Your Earth has become a container for you to open up into reconnection to that which you are within the Higher Realms. You, your physical vehicle, is a catalyst for your changing. Your cells have been realigned for your creation element to become manifest within you once more.

This is an aspect of the New Dawning prophecies that were anchored and set

prayer. You are still calling on the divine for aid; however, an invocation actually invites the beautiful presence of the divine to fill your entire being, your heart, mind, body and soul. To invoke is to essentially awaken and allow divinity to move through you, which, as you can imagine, can bring deep healing to all aspects of your being. The process of invocation includes you, a magical human, as one of the key ingredients in the recipe for miracle making. Prayer doesn’t really do that.

Invocation acknowledges your own magic in the equation, and this is why I love using invocations and teaching about them.

Even though the angels can completely hear you if you don’t speak to them out loud, I find speaking invocations out loud helps you focus on your intentions, especially if your mind is all over the place.

When you’re doing an invocation, you will want to get into the actual feeling and emotion of it. A solid invocation includes some level of passion or excitement. Mercury retrogrades until March 9, leaving our mental steering, transportation and communication a little foggy. This is an important time to introspect, retrospect, and reconnect. While our minds wander and drift, our emotional engines crank full on with Venus in feisty Aries, while Mars in Capricorn stirs our ambitions and increases general willfulness.

The mood may feel like a strong and willful horse directed by a daydreaming rider.

Venus enters Taurus March 4 and helps us get more grounded; spring fever brings emotional restlessness as Venus conjuncts Uranus March 8. Just clarify any confusing signals. Heal Your Emotional Triggers Heal Your Relationships

“Your deepest wounds, and we all have them, show up as unpleasant vibrations or feelings in your body when triggered by an external event or person. Someone says or does something and you feel your body tremble, your breathing become shallow and your chest tighten. This is a clue. A strong bodily reaction points directly to an old emotional wound that has been triggered. Stop. Listen. Feel. This is a holy moment where you have direct access to the encapsulated and stagnant energy that needs so desperately to be felt, softened and released.”

IMAGINE THIS. YOU ARE GOING along just fine, feeling peaceful and grounded, when suddenly someone in your life says or does that terrible thing that sends you into an emotional tailspin. You feel an immediate tightness in your throat, chest or belly. Your breath feels short, your heart rate goes up. Within minutes you have elevated cortisol and adrenaline in your blood. To use a modern term: you are triggered. Your sympathetic nervous system is activated; your body is in reaction and soon the rest of you will be, too. You lash out in self-protection, say things you wish you hadn’t, and you attempt to make your inside feel better by fixing the other person so that he or she understands that they must never do that terrible thing again.

Sound familiar?

If you are like me and most of my students, this is not an uncommon scenario. You may well wonder, perhaps even with some shame, how is it possible with my ability to stay peaceful and grounded in so many other areas of my life that I experience such visceral reactivity in these particular situations? If this has happened once too many times in your life and any attempts at numbing or distracting yourself from that deeply unpleasant triggered feeling haven’t worked that well, you may be at the point of realizing that changing the other person’s behavior or having your version of a numbing cocktail is at best a temporary fix.

These deep-memory grooves within, which are activated again and again, are not new to mankind. As early as 400 A.D, they were described in the Yoga Sutras as samskaras. Unlike the more superficial thought patterns that we can learn to still through meditative practices, samskaras are more stubborn, deeper imprints on our psyche, or citta as it’s called in the Yoga Sutras.

Yoga Sutra 3.18 lays it out beautifully: “Samskara saksat karanat purvajati jnanam. Through sustained focus and meditation on our patterns, habits and conditioning, we gain knowledge and understanding of our past and how we can change the patterns that aren’t serving us to live more freely and fully.”

You may have the inkling that this very unpleasant internal feeling lives in the energy field of your very own body, and it is always in there, just waiting to be activated — again and again. You may also begin to suspect that you mysteriously draw to you exactly the sort of person or situation that will activate for you this energetic knot.

Some ancient and wise part of you may even feel deeply that you are here to heal that very injury — that you are here to go deep within and study your inner script, to find that painful groove that has played out its script so many times in your outer life.

When you are reacting in a very physical way, the blocked energy within your body’s energy field has been activated by a situation that in some way reminds your psyche

of a similar dynamic that caused you stress when you were likely too young to handle it or didn’t have the choice to remove yourself from the situation. Young children are like unfiltered sponges that absorb the energy patterns around them without the capacity to separate themselves out from a situation that they are raised in, for example.

PEACEFUL STEADY LIGHT Yet, some part of you may already know that who you truly are is the peaceful, steady light within (in Sanskrit purusa) —the light that presently ensouls your physical body, the light that patiently observes the fluctuations of your mind and all the weather changes that make up your worldly life.

But we must respect and empathize with the fact that while in the human form, most of us tend to painfully forget our true nature as peaceful light and we come to identify ever more strongly with the thoughts and feelings that have programmed our heart-mind over time. Before we know it, they play out much like a movie being projected out into the world. We come to buy into the illusion that life is randomly coming toward us without any prompting or programming from within us.

In reality our thoughts, feelings, memories, wounds, habits or downright traumas are like an intricate script that is played out in how you perceive your life circumstances — and how you interpret the behavior and intentions of others.

Coming to grips with the importance of managing our thoughts and feelings is crucial if we want to stop the futile blaming of external circumstances for our ever-changing mood. The practice of stilling the heart-mind, realigning with our inner light of awareness and thus remembering who we really are, is the true practice of yoga. Only when we quiet down the constant fluctuation of the mind, the mental chatter, can we begin to recognize where the deep wounds (samskaras) lie within, and only then can we recognize how these samskaras are constantly projected onto the people closest to us — not to hurt us but to show us where we have energetic blockages that need attention.

Only then can true healing begin.

PURE PRESENCE Your divine nature is expressed as pure Presence, as simple radiant Being. It is only this magical force, the true you, that has the power to heal the deep wounds that lie within, causing pain and disruption in your relationships. While the triggered feeling may well feel completely overwhelming at times, it is no match for the powerful loving presence that you can shower it with when you are ready to stop any and all attempts to dull or numb the unpleasant feeling of anxiety, stress, sadness in your body.

The unpleasant feeling or vibration of a deepseated fear, anxiety or sadness is the root cause of most addictions known to man. Because we have not been taught healthy, effective ways to deal with the intense feeling of stress and anxiety in the body, we do what the whole word does:

we reach for alcohol, drugs, cell-phones, sugar, shopping, sex — anything really that distracts us from the unpleasant vibrations in the body.

This often leads to dependency or downright addiction to a substance or activity. But this can only hope to be a temporary distraction from the wounded place within that was trying to call your attention, trying to be heard and ultimately healed.

The healthier, more sustainable way to address the painful encounters and triggers is a process of great patience and gentleness, through which you can begin to clear out and mindfully cultivate the content of your heart-mind, as well as heal the deep wounds that play out as painful encounters in the exterior world. You really can learn to pull the projections back inside where you will find the true source of your pain: the stagnant or blocked places in the energy field of the body. When you embrace these inner, often very uncomfortable, places with pure presence and empathy, they will gradually soften and cease to show up as unpleasant outer encounters that produce the triggered reactions and subsequent drama.

This is not a fast-fix process. While the more superficial ripples of the mind may be easy to quiet down, healing the deeper grooves will likely be an ongoing process. It’s a process of taking ever more responsibility for the reactivity that may appear to be caused by external forces but really is an activation of your samskaras. You must call upon your own willingness and capacity to feel deeply into the energy field of the body.

That means truly feeling into the unpleasant vibrations and greeting these uncomfortable sensations of anxiety, fear, anger, sadness much the way you might greet, acknowledge and even embrace a small scared child with all your heart, all your love, all your presence.

Only the ongoing application of your own steady presence, acceptance and unconditional love can ever hope to heal these deep wounds that we all carry around in the depth of our psyche.

Only then can you begin the sacred work of healing these wounds that have tripped you up again and again — and the healer is your own unconditional loving Presence, like a healthy, loving parent who holds a hurting child in deep, healing love. This process can be embarked on by anyone willing to look inward for healing, instead of blaming outer conditions or people. Addiction and the Spiritual Path

KOLAVO I AM A FIRM BELIEVER that life is meant to be a fun, exciting adventure. As a lifelong seeker, I have discovered that the spiritual path and the path to recovery are one and the same. I’ve also come to the conclusion that all of life’s suffering is caused by our disconnection from Source.

Maybe it would be helpful to explain how we got to this place and how we can return to our Primal Way. I believe we are all born into this world as body and soul, both equally important for this grand adventure. At birth, we are pulled from an invisible world of pure energy into this world of form. Even doctors say that between 22-30 days after conception, a spark of life appears from nowhere. This is Spirit embodied in human form. For those who are still waiting for the second coming, this is it! I call this original stage of development our Primal Way. As spiritual beings on this amazing human adventure, we are briefly aware of both worlds. Sometime during our early development, the Divine part of our nature volunteers to step aside. Yes, the soul will go into hibernation. Remember, man cannot serve two masters and we have much to learn about being human. As a result, we feel alone for the first time. These feelings trigger a primal fear, which quickly leads to the creation of our bodyguard (separate self, mask, facade, ego). We must be singleminded when entering the School of Life.

Our survival depends on it. We created this mind-made persona for protection. This bodyguard will be our loyal partner, leading us for many years to come.

YOU’RE ALIVE Up to this point, everything is unfolding perfectly. The Universe doesn’t make mistakes. The fact that you are reading this means the bodyguard has done his job.

You might have some bumps and bruises, but you’re alive! We actually become so accustomed to taking instructions from our loyal bodyguard that we have completely forgotten about our soul, the sleeping giant, who patiently waits to be (re)discovered.

Again, have no shame or guilt. This temporary amnesia is all part of a Master Plan. The sleeping giant will awaken when the time is right, but for now, we have much to learn.

Okay, so you might be thinking, nice story, but what the heck does this have to do with addiction? Good question. As we enter the School of Life, we will begin to feel an empty void created by this temporary amnesia. Like an itch you can’t scratch, this void keeps us longing for something more. The longer we linger in this unconscious stage of life, the greater the chance 1 8 WWW.EDGEMAGAZINE.NET

that we will find some external solution to fill the void. Unfortunately, many of these temporary solutions have proven to be very addictive.

I often wondered why some people get lucky and don’t get lured into these addictive behaviors. Maybe I was feeling sorry for myself. Why me? In hindsight, I now see that we are all addicted to something. Although drugs and alcohol are the most obvious culprits, don’t overlook our addictions to food, sugar, social media, shopping, work, video games, etc. All of these behaviors share a common theme. How do I fill the void?

Okay, so this is where the wheels start to come off. This was not part of the Master Plan. The Universe wants us all to succeed.

The School of Life was only meant to be temporary. Like any school, we are given lessons every day. If you are too busy to study these lessons, the tests will become more difficult. What the hell has happened to us? When did we become so complacent, comfortable with our discomfort? When did we start to believe the old adage, “Life’s a bitch and then you die?” Although forgetting our Divine nature is a necessary stage in our development, so is remembering!

STUBBORN ONE I know this firsthand. I was one of the stubborn ones, rushing from one experience to the next, never taking the time to look for the wisdom in the present moment. I was stuck on this treadmill for decades. Again, the longer we “linger” in this unconscious stage of life, the greater the chance we will fall victim to an addiction. The pull from that empty void gradually grows stronger.

Using and abusing drugs and alcohol, smoking cigarettes and eating crap food were all part of my painful daily routine.

I was constantly beating myself up for having no will power. I saw myself as being weak, which only made things worse. This inner battle will always lead to problems in your outer world. My life was full of anxiety, fear and worry. Health issues, financial stress and failed relationships were the norm.

Once again, hindsight is 20/20. I now clearly see the Universe was simply doing its job. How long this process takes is determined by our tolerance for pain.

This is where the spiritual path and the path to recovery begin to intersect. In a mystical way, pain is good. It will eventually lead us all to look within for answers.

I mean this literally. I put my head in my hands and said, OMG, is there more to life than this? These were magic words. Like Ali Baba saying, Open Sesame, doors are opened to reveal hidden treasures. Your

soul, that Divine part of your nature, has been patiently waiting for this moment. It was as if I unlocked a door and the Universe kicked it open. The sleeping giant is now awake.

The void has been filled from within.

This is the only way to permanently fill the void! The reason addictive substances have so much power is because they work!

They temporarily help us numb that empty feeling. Unfortunately, these temporary solutions will always keep us longing for more. To awaken is the only path to freedom.

As I mentioned above, I had no will power. I spent decades trying to overcome my “bad habits.” As I describe in my book, I Am God in Disguise—So Are You, when you discover and surrender to this inner-power, all of your addictions will begin to naturally melt away. No will power required! The void is filled, and the struggle is over. I’m not kidding. It was rather effortless. If I can do it, anyone can! I won’t lie. You might initially feel some panic in the beginning. Oh shit, if I’m hosting God, I better get my house in order. This is a good thing. You will naturally feel the urge to be kind to your body.

Remember, you were born into this world as body and soul, both equally important for this adventure. I quickly decided, if I was going to be a vehicle for God’s expression, I wanted to be a freaking Ferrari!

Since I’m not a religious guy, this was weird for me. I was very uncomfortable even using the G-word. The good news: this is an inside job. You don’t need to tell anyone about your awakening. You get to be on a covert mission if you choose.

Trust me, when you begin to make positive changes in your life, people will notice. You decide if you want to share your secret.

Although I’m not an addiction expert, I have made some amazing discoveries on this adventure. I feel like I’ve solved that BIG cosmic riddle: What is the meaning of life?

I now understand that all of life’s experiences are designed to lead us to discovery, to remember our Divine nature, that sleeping giant who patiently waits to be awakened.

When our loyal bodyguard has the courage to surrender control to the giant, everything changes. The human body is like a powerful supercomputer waiting for instructions. Now that we have returned to our Primal Way, our giant (soul) will now be doing the programming. You will be amazed how quickly the body heals.

Healing is Spiritual STEVEN HIEBERT HAVE YOU GIVEN MUCH THOUGHT to what healing is and how it happens?

Like many, I took healing for granted. If I rested and gave it a little time, I got better. That was it. Healing was bandaging a wound or eating chicken soup. It certainly didn’t have anything to do with energy or spirituality.

Then one day a colleague offered to help me using what she called an “energy healing.” She instructed me to lie down. Then she stood next to me and gently put her hands on me.

She told me to relax and breathe deeply. As she held her warm hands on my body, I responded in ways that I found surprising.

There was a warm, almost buzzing sensation going through me.

My arms and hands gradually moved into different positions like they had lives of their own.

Eventually my hands clenched up in a way that reminded me of a person with cerebral palsy. The muscle contractions were so strong that I wondered if I was going to unclench after the healing was done.

The contractions did stop. My arms and hands returned to normal. All the sensations diminished and I felt surprisingly calm and relaxed. My colleague said the healing was done and I could get up.

At that time, I had a food allergy to cow’s milk. If I consumed even the smallest amount, I got sick. I got headaches and had trouble thinking and focusing. Those things bothered me so much that I was very careful to avoid dairy products altogether.

After the healing, I told another colleague about my experience. He said he wouldn’t be surprised if it changed my food allergy. I thought, “What? No way!”

But he was insistent and I was intrigued. So I went out with my colleagues and, expecting I was going to suffer for it, ate pizza.

Amazingly, I had no symptoms whatsoever. In a period of a few hours I went from getting sick after eating cheese to having no reaction at all.

At the time, I had no idea what happened. I certainly couldn’t explain it. But being able to eat cheese without getting sick was miraculous. There was no logical reason for my suddenly being able to eat cheese without getting sick. But the truth is, something BY

How to Gain Balance in 30 Days Spirit Leaves

BY JANET MICHELE RED FEATHER THIS MONTH’S EDGE TOPIC asks that we “think outside the box.” Venturing forth from our comforting cardboard confines involves thinking and perceiving differently. Often we find it difficult to disavow timeworn habits and traditions, but letting go is usually the best way to move forward.

In releasing old wounds, old patterns, old habits — in short, all that is familiar — we set foot on a new path of healing and wonderment.

The journey begins by switching from the negative to the positive. The brain is actually quite a resilient and resourceful organ. It constantly manufactures new cells, forges new pathways and secures new connections. I can actually feel something “shift” when I remember to say affirmations aloud and with conviction, so I know, experientially, that my brain is being reconfigured. Within days, even the most trenchant maladies have subsided.

It’s the same with dieting. By speaking negative pronouncements to the mirror or focusing only on our wobbly bits, we perpetuate the status quo. All that does is feed self-loathing and ensure the perpetuation of chronic metabolically driven conditions. The same applies to any bodily ailment, for dis-ease is merely an imbalance. Practice mind over matter.

Try complimenting yourself. Love yourself.

Make all your declarations positive. Slowly, things change.

Some of us really need some deprogramming. As a child, I overheard my mom on the phone with my aunts recite a litany of inherited illnesses — conditions the women in her family endured that were now besieging her: high blood pressure, hypothyroidism, hair loss, and cysts. My dad had his own empathic response to my childhood physical complaints: “Jan, you got that from your FAH-ther — a deviated septum and sinus trouble!”

He was trying to be kind and sympathetic; both parents were. Instead, they were unknowingly encouraging me to self-program the cells of my body to foster familial maladies.

One day, it occurred to me to disavow the expected array of malaises. Now, whenever an “inevitable” condition crosses my mind or is broadcast as news, I say aloud, “I’m not going to get cancer,” or “Diabetes is not part of my life plan.” Pharmaceutical companies badger us with ads in an effort to scare us into profligate pill popping, to which I retort, “For every symptom or condition, there exists an herbal, nutritional or lifestyle change I can effectuate.

I prefer to avoid the inevitable side-effects of pills.”

Through this clever strategy, I have been talking aloud to my body’s intelligence, the system that carries out directions to every cell; my body is beginning to listen and respond. I further reinforce well-being through common sense, avoiding things like poisonous tap water, refined sugars and chemically laden foods. Still, my best insurance of a healthy life has been to stay positive. I realize I am not a prisoner in a

war zone, shoring up defenses, primed to “do battle.” My wise philosophy professor, Ellery B. Haskell, used to say, “We don’t really want to kill anything, even cancer.

We just want the viruses to go play in their own backyard.”

Please don’t misunderstand me: I am acutely aware that many of us have struggled (valiantly!) with conditions that are very real. This is simply my personal journey that I am sharing. It is always a matter of one’s free will to decide whether the information is a good fit for your personal situation. I’m still moving toward greater mastery of managing the physical somatization of thoughts and fears; but I know in my heart that, one day soon, I shall be dis-ease free and in radiant health.

As Cedric Red Feather and the Mandans have taught, there are four parts to every human, of which the physical is only one.

“Treat the spiritual first, and all the others (mental, emotional and physical) will align.”

That is what Cedric would explain to us in doctoring ceremonies. We can meditate, eat sensibly, exercise and the like, but the most important parts to change are the mind and heart. A Magical Healing with the Gnomes

A clairvoyant healing/reading BY

I AM KERRY. I am a clairvoyant. I work closely with the ethereal world — dragons, unicorns, fairies, wizards and angels. I see myself and others shapeshift into trees, crystals, dolphins. So when a friend, Matthew Wood, posted about his frustration in a dream where a gnome in his backyard presented him with an open book, but withheld the words on the pages for Matthew to see, I immediately felt a nudge.

Matthew wished to know the words, and the gnomes were allowing me to peek inside.

So with Matthew’s consent, here is a transcription of his recent phone reading with me.

THE READING Starting with breathing into the reading and affirming our spirits, I began by asking for blessings and communication from the gnomes.

Matthew and about 10 gnomes appeared in a large green bubble. The gnomes were excited to do a magical ceremony with him, walking in a clockwise direction around Matthew to move the green healing energy.

They were laughing with silver bells on their pointed shoes and one held up sign saying, “Matthew’s Life Purpose.” Then the word yarrow appeared.

“Stop the ceremony!” they exclaimed. “Matthew needs to write down a ‘commitment’ to ingesting yarrow for his circulatory system. We will wait.”

“Interesting,” said Matthew.

“I work with yarrow frequently and I know it very well. But I don’t get around to ingesting the drops for myself. I’ve

thought about it many times.”

Matthew wrote down: Yarrow. I will take a tincture of yarrow, two drops twice a day for two months.

Deep breath. Now the gnomes were ready to stand up from their seated waiting positions to continue their ceremony. Deer, Raccoon, Badger and Hedgehog came from the woods and walked along on the outside of the ring.

With an excess of “wood” energy showing up in Matthew’s heart, Badger offered to take and release the excess back into the forest’s black soil.

Matthew’s heart was cleared — and he began transforming into a tree. Leaves were sprouting out of his branches, and wisdom was able to flow in.

It was at this time that the gnomes presented Matthew with his very large leatherbound book. Appearing in the trunk of Matthew’s body, the title was “Wisdom.”

The gnomes opened it to a yellow chapter called Alchemy.

Words floated off the page.

“Plant spirit medicine.” They wanted him to connect with the spirit of yarrow, saying it would bring in happiness.

Then they turned to an orange page, the Spirit of Bergamot. He is to put the essential oil into orange juice to imbibe in the spirit of the juice.

Turning to a blue page, the title was Depression. They wanted to create an alchemy to release Matthew’s depression.

Holding a blue, glass ball, Matthew was to manifest releasing energies into the ball that no longer served him — and offer them up into the sky.

A white page was next.

Matthew was shown growing as tall as a Sequoia tree and producing oranges and bergamot flowers, allowing in more joy. The gnomes offered nutrients to the soil and they were guarding their tree of massive wisdom.

The blurb on the back cover of the book was what the gnomes were the most excited about: “Matthew is a keeper of the trees, forests, prairies and the Earth. He shows the world how to live as one with nature, to enhance our spirits and help us appreciate the gifts of flowers, herbs, trees, and prairies. Matthew blesses us with his wisdom.”

And with that, the gnomes became extremely tired. After eating and partying, they wanted to sleep deeply. They also wanted Matthew to feast on oranges and other fruits, kick back with his feet up and enjoy a bounty of happiness.

As they turned and walked back into the forest, I said, “Thank you gnomes, animal spirits, Earth, and black soil.”

The book was now closed.

The orange tree turned back into Matthew’s body — and this concluded the healing for this time.
