Conscious Living Expo returns to Lake Harriet The sixth annual Conscious Living Expo, hosted by Lake Harriet Spiritual Community (LHSC), will take place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, April 7. The event is free.

Personal healing is an emphasis of the expo this year, and a variety of healing modalities will be on display.

The expo will include a variety of exhibitors, free workshops and demonstrations in the areas of holistic health, green products, alternative energy, nutrition and other healthrelated activities. A food truck will be on site and other refreshments will be available.

Lake Harriet Spiritual Community believes sustainable living is an important part of living consciously and the Conscious Living Expo is a way to promote awareness of sustainability.

Unite We Rise…a glimpse

We dive into our false narratives and limiting beliefs that are holding us back and keeping us in bondage. We remove the lenses of illusion through which we were seeing the world. We enter in the realm of the heart where we hear the sacred silence of the inner world where fear and judgment disappear.

From that place, we don’t have to make an effort to connect to each other. We go back to our essence and the Truth of who we are.

We open our eyes and see each other from a place of deep compassion and love. The stories and limiting beliefs get dissolved and hurt and pain that were veiling our hearts are removed by the water of the Truth.

We dwell deeper and deeper into that place and we let our souls dance to the music of the sacred chants.

We then rise and stand to the Oneness that connects us all. No veils, no stories, no culture, no past, no future! We start to truly see each other! From the “me” mind to the “us” selfless mind.

We come together in the Circle of Unity where there is no outside or inside but only One. We chant and dance to the music of the soul.

We breathe together to the beat of the drum.

Mas Sajady to present ‘Miracle Mindset’ event Mas Sajady, survivor of two near-death experiences and founder of Medihealing®, is bringing his rare knowledge and abilities back to Lake Harriet Spiritual Community (LHSC) for a two-hour public service event entitled the “Miracle Mindset.”

The event will take place from 7-9 p.m.

Friday, March 9, at LHSC, located at 44th and Upton Avenue S., Minneapolis. All proceeds from the event will be donated to LHSC and its public service outreach programs.

“Each of us is a fractal of Pure Source,” Sajady says. “Deep within our spirit is a well of miraculous energy waiting to be revealed. To understand who we truly are and effectively open our spirit to its full powers and the miracles that life has to offer, we must first sift through the layers of our self-image, identity, belief systems and distortions. We are called to clear ourselves of these frequencies that no longer serve us.”

The “Miracle Mindset” event will give participants information on distortions that must be cleared in order to manifest miracles in their lives, including two simple morning steps to set their mind and spirit in a state that is open to receiving miracles, and one sign that signifies that they are on the right track.

Eric J. Christopher, who is in private practice in St. Paul as a marriage and family therapist and certified regression hypnotherapist, has a life passion of helping clients connect to their inner wisdom that can uncover and heal the roots of limiting fears and beliefs, thereby enabling them to experience the freedom, peace and clarity of their wise soul self. We checked in with this vital member of the holistic community to learn more about him.

Eric, what inspired you to become a hypnotherapist?

I was at a workshop during my Marriage & Family Therapy training and saw a hypnotherapist heal a deep-seated anxiety issue of a volunteer from the audience in one session. Months later, the person reported that it was life-changing, and I realized how fast and effective hypnotherapy can be to help people heal, compared to the talk level therapy that I was training in. And when I read Michael Newton’s book Journey of Souls, I finally knew without a doubt that I wanted to get training by Michael Newton and learn spiritual hypnotherapy.

That book has been a “life-changer” and “paradigm-shifter” for many people and demonstrates how very powerful and healing it can be to help connect a person to their soul self.

What’s your favorite niche when it comes to hypnosis? And has this evolved or changed throughout your career?

I’m most passionate about helping people uncover and release the roots of anxiety and depression. I like to use a technique that combines several effective methods I learned over the years. I call it the Emotional Healing and Awakening session and it combines releasing major or minor traumas from the cellular memory of the body while simultaneously connecting clients to their Higher Self. It’s also very gratifying to do past life regression and the Life-Between-Lives session, as they are almost always profound for the person.

The way I do hypnotherapy has indeed changed and evolved over the years as I have grown personally and spiritually myself. I now have a deep knowing that everyone’s true self is whole and complete already, it just gets covered up in this human experience. Healing then becomes a subtraction process, uncovering and releasing the thoughts, feelings and beliefs

that veil one’s wholeness. This is easier to do from the vantage point of one’s Higher Self.

Throughout your years of professional experience, what’s been the most rewarding or inspiring case where you’ve helped a subject make major transformations in their life?

That is very hard to choose from, but one that comes to mind is a man in his early twenties. He wanted to do past-life regression because I had helped his girlfriend take away her intense needle phobia in a past-life session three months prior.

In his email detailing what he wanted help with in his session, he wrote: “I have a fear of all good things coming to an end in relationships, among other things. There’s little extras, too, like maybe why I smoke or pace so much, but mostly why I fear being abandoned or betrayed. I have an empty hollowness…I won’t be good enough, then betrayed, then abandoned, a sadness, I don’t know what to do.”

In our session, he regressed to the life of a man named Richard who came home from work one day to find that his wife had gone insane and butchered all three of his children with the help of another man. Visioning the Year Ahead MERCURIAL MESSAGES THROUGH THE ZODIAC

The new astrological year begins as the sun enters enlivening, rebellious Aries on the vernal equinox, March 20 at 11:15 a.m.

CDT. Two days later Mercury turns retrograde; the sun pushes us forward while Mercury asked us to stop and reconsider, applying the gas and the brakes at the same time.

But first, March begins in a dreamy, low energy state as sun approaches Neptune in sensitive Pisces and gives us a chance to process, compost and vision where we need to go before the Aries rocket fuel, and Mercury retrograde confusion, kicks in. Spring fever energy begins on March 6 as Venus and Mars conjunct and both enter willful and passionate Aries. Keep eyes open for new personal connections and harness this emotional rocket fuel for serious work mid-March as Mercury squares competent Saturn.

And then life gets more complicated. The past whispers to us, technical delays begin to thicken, and new revelations abound as we step towards a twilight zone. After Mercury retrogrades on March 22, confirm information, check schedules, track important work carefully. Use the fallow creative time at the beginning of March to dream into motion a clean pathway to follow, or improvise from, when Spring’s stormy enthusiasm kicks in.

Aries (Mar. 21-Apr. 19)…Take good care of your health and look at relationships with people who support you behind the scenes. Be ready to adjust and change how you reach out to others around March 11. Watch power clashes mid-month; take the high road. Patiently step into your own after March 22.

Taurus (Apr. 20-May 20)…Revel in your cuddliness as the month begins and Venus trines Jupiter. Use your ability to sense truth underneath the surface of words to safely support the community around you mid-month. After March 20, move towards a place of introspective self-care even if others get busy around you.

Gemini (May 21-June 20)…Calm your sensitive nervous antenna and take advantage of professional opportunities early in March as Mercury conjuncts Venus. Follow through as Venus and Mercury enters Aries March 6; add your ingenuity to make it so. Step back and reassess progress and reconnect with old contacts once spring begins.

Cancer (June 21-July 22)…This month brings interesting, if steep, learning curves, so learn all you can, even though you may feel unusually sensitive.

Don’t take the bait after March 6; step away from conflagrations and step into a gentler leadership.

Other people’s difficulties could provide opportunities to step up after the equinox.

My friend Nathan spent some time living in the Ukraine and picked up this fabulous Borscht recipe from the locals there.

1/4 cup butter or olive oil 1 large yellow onion, chopped 2 cloves of garlic, minced 1 large beet, grated 2-3 carrots, grated 15oz can tomato sauce 15oz can black beans Parsley, chopped Dill, chopped Sour cream Add the bay leaf to broth and bring to a boil. Add potatoes and bring back to a boil and simmer for 5 min.

Add shredded cabbage, bring to a boil and simmer an additional 10 minutes. In separate large frying pan, heat oil and sauté onions and garlic for 5 minutes until translucent.

Add beets and carrots and sauté

for an additional 5 minutes. Add tomato sauce and cook on medium high heat for an additional 5 minutes. Add the beet mixture and beans to the broth and simmer for an additional 5-10 minutes until the cabbage and potatoes are soft.

Remove from heat. Add a handful of parsley and dill.

lessly in your mission of preparing Earth energetically for this time. You are being asked to open with your forged alliances to prepare yourselves in readiness for this upcoming process.

Earth is going to be realigned within its original multidimensional makeup, which will allow you, as a race, to move into a more natural alignment within your universe. This means that the frequency vibration of your planet will begin once more to resonate to the same pulse as the universe. Earth will be in direct alignment to its universe for the very first time in the history of the planet.

Move Consciously to Oneness A PLEIADIAN MESSAGE

by Christine Day Beloved Ones, we greet you. Planet Earth is on the threshold of yet another transformational turning point. Since the sun has repositioned itself in relationship to your planet at the time of the New Year, your Earth plane has undergone major transformational processes.

Your planet has birthed a new multidimensional framework, strongly expanding the grid systems. There has been an energetic matrix open around the planet, to further support the emerging of an everexpanding multidimensionality that carries an aspect of the natural makeup of Earth.

This matrix is playing a role likened to a womb, stabilizing the planet, as well as holding you individually as you move through your own metamorphic transition.

The magnetic core within Earth is stabilizing a pure frequency to enable the rotation cycles within your axis point to activate new imprint patterns for the awakening of your consciousness. These energetic patterns are designed to further lift the veils of illusion, enabling an unearthing of the hidden density within the structures, all structures on the planet, including mankind. These processes are going to be heightened as this happening unfolds this month.

Towards the end of this month an accelerated quickening will take place on your planet. The sun is destined to move once again, creating access to yet another multidimensional repositioning. The sun’s rays will be carrying a magnified frequency of dimensional light consciousness to Earth.

DOORWAY OF LIGHT This doorway of light will be establishing new dimensional settings across the full spectrum of the Earth plane, strongly impacting the energetic makeup of the planet on a multidimensional level, and creating a further shift within the magnetic core. This light will be the catalyst for lasting change and will continue to accelerate your transition of the “New Dawning” era. This will herald in the beginning of the third phase of your transition within the “New Dawning.”

This doorway of light is designed to deeply effect and interact within the heart, revealing pathways that exist within the cells, and expanding the cells dimensionally. You will go through a metamorphic shift within the heart. Your energetic makeup will become much more fluid, allowing you to more easily navigate your self within the higher multidimensional realms. Pathways will be revealed to you and an expanded fluidity will enable you to move effortlessly beyond the veil to forge deeper alignments with your Higher Self.

This repositioning of the sun will be temporary, not lasting for more than a few minutes in your time frame. However, this movement will strongly impact Earth, and it will have ongoing repercussions, creating powerful ripples weeks after the event. Your planet will never return to its original state prior to this experience. This is an important timeframe for humanity — an essential happening that has been predestined for eons.

Your resident universe will be converging as one consciousness. The Earth will be a point of focus at the time of the repositioning of the sun to support this transitional next step. Many of you who have developed conscious galactic ties will be strongly involved within this universal convergence. Understand that you have an integral part to play within these Universal roles. Many of you have been working tire-

Through this metamorphic shift there will be created a powerful flow of change set in motion throughout the planet. This will take place on many different multidimensional levels.

You can absolutely know and trust that there will be an ongoing shift of consciousness taking place within you through this transitional phase. Change will be constant within the ripples activated by the rays, and that change is going to flow throughout your personal world. This is definite. Without a doubt there will be a constant shift that takes place within you and within your life, so each day let go with that knowingness.

This is the time to embrace these changes fully within your heart.

In Truth, nothing stands still. There is a part of your human ego mind that always wants to hang on to the past, and to hold close to what is familiar. At this juncture, it is imperative that you let go and allow what needs to be unfold fully. What is key right now is your willingness to let go and be so that you can unfold with ease and flow.

There is no need for struggle in this process.

Resistance brings struggle.

We remind you of this picture: You are holding onto the branch of a tree and you are hanging above a river. The current in the river is gentle and the water is warm. To let go involves a simple process. All you have to do is open your fingers off the branch of the tree. You fall softly into the river, your river of light. The current of this river moves you gently, repositioning you to where you need to be now. You are held, carried and embraced by your own river of light. The current of this river takes you effortlessly to where you need to be. What is essential is not to fight the current. You can trust where you are being taken, for there is no reason to resist your own current of light.

This is the letting go energy we speak about often. This is your time to let go and fall into your river of light, which is aligning you back home to your Higher Self. You are not alone and never have been. Open now into the willingness to “let go.”

CONSCIOUS BREATH An important component of the “letting go” process is utilizing the conscious breath. This involves a conscious choice action by you of taking a breath in and out of the mouth — with no control of your outbreath, because that will control what you are letting go. Just simply breathing in, and then letting the outbreath flow freely outwards. And then, opening to the feeling of something releasing within you as you focus on your outbreath. This is letting go action through using the conscious breath.

You are not looking for perfection in this letting go process.

Simply allow moments of being in the “letting go” process. Each individual moment you have within this process is paramount to breaking down the old cycles of self-sabotage that have been operating within you. These moments become accumulative, so you will build a base of self-liberation within as you choose to move into the letting go process, moment by moment.

At this juncture, you need to consciously accept the fact that great change is coming to your world. As you anchor a conscious acceptance for change within your self and within your world, you will automatically activate an alignment into a natural flow of a current of light, your river.

Then, doors of opportunity will begin to open up for you within this flow. This conscious acceptance by you of change is necessary for the completion of your mission. This is the time to allow your self to be repositioned, like the sun.

As you are being repositioned, you are realigned into a multidimensional sacred aspect of your Higher Self. As you let go, you are able to transcend through the veils to reconnection for a self-realization. This is your time to shine forth your unique light within the world from the vastness of your own heart.

COMING TRANSFORMATIONS You need to consciously prepare yourself for these upcoming transformations. The preparations are simple. Simply choose a conscious action and follow the steps of flow.

• Develop a connection within your heart. Hold your physical chest with both hands.

Then bring your awareness to the feeling of your hands on your chest. Use the conscious breath into where you feel your hands on your heart. Develop this connection by letting go within your heart. Claim your heart.

• Open up consciously within your heart, saying “yes” to the upcoming changes in your life.

• Work with the energy of the sun’s rays by building a conscious union with the sun. Watch the sunrise and open to the sun’s rays. Use the conscious breath and let go into the rising sun. Bring your awareness to where the sun is touching your body, and open your awareness into the sunlight. Use the conscious breath and let go into the energy of the sunlight streaming on you.

• Build your connection to the natural forces. Lie on the Earth, use the conscious breath and let go into the Earth. Place your palms on the Earth and feel the connection through your palms, then breathe and let go into the connection.

Open to the wind, and feel the wind on your face, on your arms and on your legs.

The fire element holds a creation energy, melting away the density within you.

Bring your awareness into the fire, then use the conscious breath into the fire and let go. Open into the water element, use the conscious breath into the water and open into the fluidity of the water, breath and let go into the fluidity.

Each one of these elements will support your system in the next step of this transitional phase. The natural forces are here to support you in your integration process within this transition.

The rocks, trees, mountains and oceans carry a powerful and transformational integration frequency that you can tap into for another level of support. They carry and mirror Truth, light and peace to you. Utilize these tools, for these are gifts that you have been given.

All of these steps are designed to prepare you to acclimatize in this new environment of Earth. These simple steps will be enough to support you fully in the right moments.

Know that we, the Pleiadians, remain with you throughout this entire transition. We witness you. There is great honor within your journey, as you transition through this phase on your Earth plane.

policemen tried to get Richard to look at him and talk, so he gave him a cigarette to try to draw him out of his shock. It was his first cigarette and he smoked it, then he smoked the rest of the policeman’s pack, and he kept smoking the rest of his life. His wife ended up going to an insane asylum, her accomplice went to prison and Richard started drinking heavily. He eventually drank himself to death, passing out in freezing temperatures on the grave of one of his children.

Please share a compelling case study from the Life-Between-Lives Therapy that you offer.

A man came in with a long list of questions to ask his guides. After his vibration frequency was raised enough to be able to have clear communication with them, there was the typical joyful reunion of having a conscious connection with each other. For those who have never thought about having hypnotherapy, what is your best argument for giving it a try?

For one, it’s a fast, efficient and effective way to uncover, liberate and heal any of the limiting thoughts, feelings and beliefs that hold us back in life. Secondly, hypnotherapy slows down the brain wave activity from Beta waves down to Alpha, Theta and even Delta waves, and this allows one to consciously access their Higher Self, higher guidance system, and even loved ones who have passed over. We have the opportunity to realize and experience ourselves as multi-dimensional beings, and thus access and identify with the higher dimensions of ourselves. Then Earth life becomes much easier.

How does hypnotherapy relate to healing and happiness?

It can connect you to a part of yourself that is already whole, complete, has no fears and is pure love, joy and peace. From the vantage point of experiencing your Higher Self, it becomes much easier to see through and no longer believe thoughts of shame, unworthiness, or guarded hearts from past pain and loss, etc. — any issue that is not easy to relieve with talk level therapy alone, because it brings you to a higher level of consciousness. Einstein said you can’t solve a problem at the same level of consciousness that created it. Thus, it’s an effective way to help discover and heal the mental and emotional roots that underlie depression and anxiety.

Even if you can’t think of an issue to work on, you can still do a past life regression, because your Higher Self will automatically show you a life that will help you grow, awaken and evolve whether it be a difficult life or a beautiful life.

What are your personal interests in your spare time? What do you like to read? What is your ideal getaway from the office? Any hobbies?

I used to enjoy going on aimless bike rides throughout the city with no set direction in mind. But now that my wife and I got a little Papillon dog, Bodhi, we love to hike with her in nature. I try to do this every day if I can. It’s so helpful and grounding for me after a session. The books I’ve most been drawn to the past few years have been by teachers who have awakened, or become enlightened. A few of my favorites are Adyashanti, Eckhart Tolle, and Leonard Jacobson, who thankfully, has recently moved back to the Twin Cities from California. Paganicon AN INTERVIEW ON PAGANISTAN’S BIG EVENT, WITH LAURIE FROBERG

by Tim Miejan Talk with any practicing Wiccan or Druid in your neighborhood, and in time you’ll learn something that has been commonly known here for decades: that this region is better known as Paganistan. Its concentration of an estimated 20,000 Pagans puts the Twin Cities in the company of San Francisco, New Orleans, New York City, and Salem, Mass., as major Pagan hubs in the United States.

And where there are numbers, there are gatherings.

The eighth annual Paganicon Midwest Conference returns March 15-18 to Minneapolis to offer Pagans from around the world an opportunity to meet, organize and learn more about the myriad indigenous or magickal traditions that they share in common.

“Here in the Twin Cities, the predominant Pagan tradition is Wicca or Witchcraft,” said Laurie Froberg, marketing chair of Twin Cities Pagan Pride, the host organization of Paganicon and umbrella organization for area Pagans.

“Some Wiccans, such as Norse Wicca and Celtic Wicca,” she said, “incorporate a belief system to ancient worlds, and some Wiccans are eclectic, following more than one form of Paganism. Besides Wicca, there are also a fair number of Druids, even some shamans in the Twin Cities area, and there are many other groups that are not as sizable, but there are too many to name. Come to Paganicon and you will learn about many of them.”

In an interview with The Edge, Froberg shared more about Paganicon and this area’s rich Pagan history.

For those who have never attended Paganicon, please give us an overview of this event.

Paganicon is a three-day conference organized by Twin Cities Pagan Pride and a host of volunteers.

Its purpose is to provide an educational and social venue for Pagans, Wiccans, Heathens, Druids, and

people of other folk, craft, indigenous or magickal traditions.

If you come to the conference you can attend workshops and panel discussions on a multitude of pagan-related topics from very knowledgeable speakers from all over the U.S. and Canada. You will learn something new, find sources of inspiration, and share a discussion with like-minded folks.

You also will be able to participate in many rituals that are happening throughout the weekend, including our event’s main ritual.

The main ritual is composed of leaders from throughout the community, and it serves as a bonding moment for community, regardless of tradition and a way to delve into a magical and intentional mindset for the rest of the weekend.

Twin Cities Pagan Pride and a handful of pagan community groups will be hosting party rooms throughout the weekend that provide a welcoming space for all our conference attendees. They are the perfect place to hang out and make new friends.

Paganicon’s 2018 theme is “Fire and Ice.” Many people come in costume for the Masquerade Ball, which is held on Saturday night, and they will use our theme to inspire them in creating costumes. There is also a Friday night concert, an art show called “The Third Offering,” a sacred gallery space. Artists from all over the U.S. will be displaying all types of visual media. The art gallery is free and open to the public. The vendor room is also free and open to the public. It’s a great place to stop by and do some shopping.

Can you give us a brief rundown of some of the featured guests and speakers coming this year?

We also have two special guests. Chris Shelton is an author, professional YouTuber, public speaker, and a formal cult member turned activist. He was a part of the Church of Scientology and worked at its highest level for 17 years before leaving in 2013. He has been an outspoken critic ever since. Daphie Pooyak Yeomans is a Cree storyteller and Medicine Woman from Sweetgrass Reserve in Saskatchewan, Canada.

We have two featured guests: Kari Tauring is a Nordic folk musician and storyteller, and members of the Viking Encampment, an entertainment troupe that focuses on educating audiences on Viking history, warfare, culture and crafts.

What can attendees look forward to this year in terms of entertainment?

Last year we introduced the Friday night concert, and this year S.J. Tucker will headline that concert. She is a singer songwriter who has been called “the face of neo-tribal Paganism” and “a surprise of delight.” S.J. was the Paganicon entertainer at our 2012 event and attendees enjoyed her so much that they asked her to come back every year, and this year we have fulfilled that request.

For those Edge readers who are not in the know, what is a Pagan and what are the many forms of Paganism present here in the Twin Cities?

Most sources define Pagan as anyone who is not Christian, Muslim or Jew, and some sources on the internet define Pagan as a term which refers to a variety of different religions ranging from Wicca to that of

ancient Egypt and even Hinduism, among many others. The original meaning of the word “pagan” means “country-dweller,” and it comes from the Latin word “paganus.”

I often use the word “Pagan” to refer to the ancient Pagan religions of Europe and the Middle East. The original Pagans were followers of an ancient religion that worshipped several gods, many of which are the subjects of today’s myths and legends, and it is those ancient religions that inspired many of today’s Pagans, who worship rituals and daily religious practices.

and create connections that have added value and purpose to my life.

One common question we hear at our Twin City Pagan Pride events is, “How do I meet people and get involved in this Pagan community?” Answer: Volunteer. I am living proof of that. I had an entire marketing experience with another non-profit organization and offered my experience to help out. Now I am the marketing chair for this wonderful organization and, along with Cindy Miller, organized a local Druid group in 2015 called Northern Roots Grove.

What does Paganicon offer the first-time visitor who knows little about Pagan religions?

Many of the workshops we offer range from very basic information to more advanced practices and theory. You can get your feet a little wet or really wet. There are a fair number of workshops that can apply to anyone, regardless of religious beliefs. We have one workshop, for instance, where you can learn the basic techniques for energetic or psychic shielding. You can learn about the foundation to plan your own event or how to get a book published. There will be endless opportunities to meet with people, Pagan and non-Pagan, to discuss, learn and engage in conversations that create an understanding of what it is we do and why.

What experience stands out for you from the past Paganicons that you have attended?

Anyone who has been to Paganicon can personally attest to its value through connections, friendships, the sharing of knowledge and information. For me, personally, in a world where we are very much the minority, stepping into a place where you are a part of a larger Pagan community, where you can feel comfortable sharing and practicing your religious beliefs with people who are of like mind, can be quite the experience.

I will never forget the first large group ritual I had at my first Paganicon after being a solitary for many years. Christopher Penczak was the guest of honor that year and was leading a group of us in the ritual.

The energy raised in that ritual — the feelings of love, affirmation and acceptance — created such an emotional experience that it just brought me to tears. There are so many experiences, from meeting loving, amazing guests that have graced our convention to the parties we celebrate at the end of every successful convention. I could spend an entire afternoon talking about them all.

How did you become connected with the Pagan community?

I was a solitary pagan for many years before I came to my first Paganicon. I was so impressed with the event that I became a regular volunteer for Twin Cities Pagan Pride’s fall event, Pagan Pride Day, and the spring event, Paganicon. Those hours of volunteering led me to meet some amazing people in the Twin Cities Pagan community

• Sancista Brujo Luis — Luis is a Puerto Rican Brujo (witch) as well as a mediumchanneler raised in the Puerto Rican, Espiritismo Criollo folkloric tradition. Luis practices various traditions of Caribbean Brujeria (witchcraft) and Mesa Blanca, which loosely translates into “White Table,” a term used to refer to a shamanic ceremony of Caribbean Spiritualism. Sancista Luis mixes his blend of Puerto Rican Sanse with his Boricua heritage, Taino Behique, and Bohitu Shamanic traditions.

Adding to his practices are Bantu and Yoruba Spirituality, European Spaniard, and Gitano Brujería, and cartomancy. Luis is the author of Luz Y Progreso: A Handbook for Developing Mediums.

How long has Twin Cities Pagan Pride existed and what is its primary goal?

Twin Cities Pagan Pride just celebrated its 20th annual launch at the Twin Cities Pagan Pride Day last September. Our primary goal is to foster pride and diverse Pagan identities through education, activism, charity and community. Its mission is to educate the general public about Earthreverent faiths, promote religious tolerance for all faiths, and to provide a forum for the expression, comparison, contrast, growth and expansion of diverse spiritual and religious ideas, theories, practices, traditions and views.

Why is Minnesota and the Upper Midwest a place that has a lot of Pagans?

Let me go back to Paganistan. The name Paganistan was coined by one of our elders, Steven Posch. It was a reference to the large number of Pagans who began arriving in the early 1970s for the annual witchcraft conventions that were sponsored by Llewellyn Publications.

Now, Llewellyn Publications is the world’s largest independent occult publisher and they are based right here, in Woodbury.

Many more Pagans came after an occultist from Kentucky, named Lady Sheba, prophesied in 1974 that the first Pagan temple in America would be built right here in Minneapolis. Many of those Pagans who came for those reasons never left, and so here we are 44 years later. The temple was never built, but the Twin Cities metro area has earned the reputation of becoming what is now known throughout the worldwide Pagan network as Paganistan. There are estimates, and no one is certain of the exact number, that the greater Minnesota area has more than 20,000 Pagans.

One of our presenters at Paganicon this year is Murphy Pizza. She did her Ph.D. dissertation while at the University of Wisconsin on the Paganistan phenomenon, and that became a book called A Handbook of Contemporary Paganism.

I will quote her from the book for what I think is very apt for what is happening in Minnesota.

She said, “In San Francisco the Pagan community has a serious hippie flavor. They make a big ritual out of jumping into the ocean during Yule. Pagans laugh about that here. In Minnesota the Pagans do potlucks.” Paganism and potlucks are very Minnesotan.

Many significant moments in neo-Pagan history happened right here in Minnesota. For example, in 1973 the first American Council of

Witches was formed and the Council convened at the first Great American Witchcraft in 1974, right here in Minnesota. At that time Wicca and other neo-Paganisms were greatly misunderstood in North America. The Council created and adopted the 13 principles of Wiccan beliefs, which helped to set the record straight. These principles are taught to many students of teaching covens or secret classes, even today.

One of the greatest misconceptions among people who know nothing about Paganism is that it is synonymous with evil and Satanism. How do you respond to people who bring that up?

That brings me back to the 13 principles of Wicca that were formed back in 1974. Number 12 reads, and I will read it verbatim: “We do not accept the concept of absolute evil, nor do we worship any entity known as Satan or the devil, as defined by Christian tradition. We do not seek power through the suffering of others, nor do we accept that personal benefit can be derived only by denial to another. “ That was why that moment in Pagan history was so important, because it answered exactly what you said.

What does the existence of Pagans contribute to the overall culture of our nation?

Pagan traditions encourage individuals to create or seek their own self-meaning, understanding and purpose in life. We feel life should be celebrated joyfully without shame as long as other people are not harmed and that is very appealing to people seeking a viable alternative to mainstream faith in today’s culture. Since a vast majority of Pagan belief systems are built on European Middle Eastern culture, it serves as the link to something people often look for, a connection to their ancestral culture.

Additionally, Pagans revere Mother Earth as a sacred and Divine entity. Devotion to the Earth and to the land on which we live motivates many Pagans to become active environmentalists, actively working on programs to halt the degradation of the environment. Intuition Awareness: 3 tips for Newbies

I realize now that as a young girl, I was guided to “protect” my younger brothers with my intuition. We often visited my grandma, and hung out at a house a few blocks away with some cousins. There was a man at that house who didn’t feel “right” to me, and I remember when he was around to be sure to lead my brothers and my cousins out of the house and to the playground across the street.

Immediately I knew that we were not safe when he was there. I could feel the energy he was emitting and trusted that instinct.

I found out as an adult years later that my instincts were accurate as many dark and harmful things occurred around this man and young children.

As an adolescent, I always assumed that everyone had these deep intuitive feelings, but no one talked about them.

What I realize now is that every person’s calibration to his or her intuition is set differently. Because of who I am, and what I am here to do, I can calibrate light and dark energy very quickly. It is one of my gifts that through my twenties I didn’t understand. At the age of 29, the gates of intuition were opened fully and everything consciously clicked into place for me.

The following are three things I wish someone would have taught me when I began my intuitive growth journey: • Open Heart Center — Deep continuous breaths will calm the mind and open your heart center, which is the gatekeeper for light-filled Intuition. When welltrained lightworkers channel information for themselves or others, the source of the information comes through the heart center. Multiple clients have come to my team because the psychic advice they received from others in the past didn’t feel congruent with their own heart. This is an amazing lesson in trusting your own intuition! How fun is it that the universe called you to see an intuitive, while the real lesson of the interaction was to point you back to growing your own intuition?!?

If there is ever a time when someone is channeling, being intuitive or “psychic” for you and it does not resonate with you, trust your intuition and feel free to discontinue using that source for guidance.

• Positive for Self and Others — When intuition is coming from a Light Source, the information received will be given to you as a positive resource for the betterment of your life without fear or guilt attached. Once I had a client who said an “angel” was telling her to stay in her unhealthy relationship because this “angel” had worked so hard on her significant other, and if she left him then all of the “angel’s” work would be undone.

This was a red flag for me, and together my client and I brought awareness to the situation to see what was really happening and correct it.

• Expect the Unexpected — Intuitive communication from the Universe will come in many ways. The most commonly known messages involve seeing, hearing or feeling something mystically. I would like you to realize that you may ask a question to the Universe consciously or unconsciously and the answer could come back to you as a sensation in your body, or a song on the radio. When you live your life with deep continuous breaths, that sensation or song will naturally trigger an insight or answer for you! Intuition – Your Personal GPS: Practical Tips for Tuning In

by Allie Maurer To ring in the New Year, my husband and I celebrated with a group of friends, and our last stop was a small-town bowling alley. My attention kept returning to a woman who was bowling on the lane next to us, but I couldn’t determine why exactly I felt the need to observe her.

After the clock struck midnight and everyone’s games wrapped up, this woman and her boyfriend left abruptly. No one in my group noticed this, but I did. It was then discovered that my friend’s small purse had gone missing. It had simply vanished. As soon as we discovered the missing purse, I just knew who had it.

I suggested we find someone who knew the woman I had been drawn to and have them call her phone. This was a small town, and everyone there seemed to know each other. The call was made and within 20 minutes the woman came back to the bowling alley and returned my friend’s purse.

How often has a similar incident occurred that could be remedied by you tuning into your intuition? How wonderful it would be for everyone to tune in and find solutions when they needed them!

The truth is, everyone has intuition and it’s readily available for your use! One of the biggest challenges people face are the misconceptions of what using intuition looks or feels like. So many people use it without even knowing they are accessing it. I like to think of intuition as the art of being ultraobservant. It is picking up on the subtle (and sometimes not so subtle) language of the universe. It can be the gut feeling you get that tells you not to trust someone or overhearing a conversation that sounds like it’s a message just for you — which it just may be!

Here are some practical tips for tuning in: • Believe, allow and trust. This is incredibly important, because every time you discount the information from your intuition, you shut it down! Believe in intuition, allow the information to come through, and trust that you are capable.

• Be open to receive. Calm your mind and don’t judge the information that you perceive. Keep the ego out of the way and simply observe the information. It may be symbols, words, feelings or impressions.

Intuition: Humanity’s best-kept Secret

by Echo Bodine I love talking about intuition. I’m known as a psychic and I teach many psychic development classes, but my true calling is to share my awareness and understanding about intuition. I want people to know what it is and why it’s one of the most important gifts we have. This deep inner knowing is a constant resource, informs us directly, and can be called upon for guidance in all aspects of our lives, from running a business to raising a family.

My discovery of intuition began at age 7, when I asked my mom how she always knew things. She had an uncanny ability when it came to knowing things about us kids and the people in our lives. I told her I wanted to be like her, so she started teaching me about intuition. In that era, and through the 1990s, intuition was considered to be this quirky thing that women had and men didn’t. She would point to my tummy and tell me the answers were there. To a 7 year old, that made no sense at all, but my mother kept working with me, helping me to understand.

If a friend asked me over for a slumber party, mom would point to my stomach and ask me what it said. Huh? My stomach knew the answer? What? She never stopped pointing to my stomach when making a decision about something. Sometimes I would actually feel a little pull in there, and other times I felt nothing. Being a logical Virgo, I could be a slow learner when it came to something that seemed so abstract. I wanted a more obvious experience that came fast and spoke loud, like the voice of James Earl Jones. Instead, what I had to practice was listening to a still, small voice within.

In my teens, the quiet voice started to get louder. That voice did help me make decisions, though many times I would receive guidance about my choices and then go in the opposite direction, only to regret my decision. I don’t know if it’s the Virgo thing or stubbornness, but I repeated that

doesn’t make sense, it’s okay to ask for more clarification. Leave your expectations at the door, though. Help often comes in unexpected ways.

• Practice! Practice makes perfect. There are endless ways to practice, test and hone your skills daily. Get creative, but don’t guess — perceive!

In my early twenties, I was preparing to become a Unity minister, and I read a book called Lessons in Truth, by Emily Cadie. A chapter about intuition said it is the still, small voice of God as referenced in the Bible. What? The voice of God? Really, truly?

It wasn’t just this goofy thing that women have and men aren’t privileged to? I asked my minister if intuition truly was the voice of God and he responded with an emphatic “Yes!” I’ll never forget that night. It felt as though a hundred light bulbs came on in my head, and I realized this part of me was not some “goofy female thing” like my dad had always led me to believe. Instead, I had learned how to tap into major guidance from the Universe whenever I needed it. I thought about all the times it was accurate, and that it had never led me astray.

I also learned that it can be a challenge to discern intuition, because we hold a lot of our emotions in the stomach area, including guilt, shame, anger, sadness and fear. Sometimes we confuse the two and think our emotions are intuition, but the most important thing I want you to always remember is that intuition does not have emotion.

It can be a challenge to live intuitively if you have a lot of unresolved emotional pain lodged in your body, but it’s really worth it to practice hearing or sensing your intuition. I think of the dialogue process with my intuition as my own personal GPS to help me maneuver my way through life.

It will never lie to you or lead you astray.

Intuition will help you get back on track if you’ve wandered off. It knows your path and what you want to accomplish this lifetime.

So how does this work? Whenever you need guidance, put your attention down in the area between your heart and your gut.

You are “listening” for a yes or a no. A “yes” feels energetic and happy, while a “no” feels dead or lacks energy. We have been

• Meditate. By being mindful you become a true observer and can witness more information that can be sorted and explored.

A cluttered mind can get in the way of being a clear channel for communication.

• Take care of yourself. The healthier you are (mind, body,

conditioned to value what our minds tell us over what we sense from our intuition, so try it out on the little decisions first. It takes a bit of training to focus on our intuitive response instead of going into our heads when making decisions.

Intuition is great with timing, and it will help you with schedules, like when to hold the graduation party, when to take a trip, when to go to the busy post office, or where and when to make a purchase. Then, when you feel confident about being able to hear the still, small voice, ask for its help on the bigger issues like what’s the best school for you or your child, or when to make a large purchase such as a house or car, and if the purchase is a good one. Have you wondered if you should stay in a relationship or get out? Do you have decisions to make about health and medicine, or about moving, finances or investments? We make a hundred decisions a day and it will guide you with every one of them.

I am grateful that I learned how to hear intuition before I began developing my psychic abilities so that I could discern the difference between the two. Intuition has been invaluable when doing psychic work because it helps me understand the pictures and words I’m receiving in my head and I can go to my intuition for clarity.

Take a chance on Intuition, take a chance on you!

by Kayla Michaele You are on your way to work and suddenly you get the urge to take a different route. Why would you do this? You are already running late and you know the shortest route, so why would you go another way? And there it is.

Two miles up the road, there it is an accident or broken stop light — and now you are stuck.

You say, “Ugh. I should have taken that way. Now I’m screwed and am going to be really late.”

Your stomach starts to get upset and you begin to feel tightness in your chest. Now you worry about all of the things you have to change, reroute and reschedule to make up for this lost time.

What happened here? You didn’t listen to your intuition.

THAT LITTLE NUDGING So what is intuition? Intuition is that small voice inside your gut.

It’s that little nudging that always knows best but isn’t always listened to. It has no emotion, remains neutral and guides you with information given by you to make life a little easier, a little more flowing. It is, if not immediately apparent, always correct.

It is constantly hinting its way through your life, lovingly and patiently.

I always tell my students that

intuition is the “Bat-Line” to our Soul. (Reference: Batman & Robin TV series circa 1960s).

This is not to be confused with psychic information, which comes from outside sources, such as angels and spirit guides.

It is literally your Soul speaking to you. It is a quiet, personalized GPS to gently guide you through the challenges and experiences that you and others have put before you.

So we know what it is and where it comes from, but how do we work with our intuition?

Simply listen and follow. It is the hardest and simplest process.

Yeah, I know…“We can’t hear it.”

“We are too busy to take the time to connect.” “How will we know that it will be right?”

Well, you can hear it and you already do! How many times have you said that you should have listened to your gut? Or you knew this or that was going to happen. You are already hearing/ feeling/knowing your intuition every day. You just may not be recognizing it.

No one is too busy to connect, because it comes to you instantaneously as you need it — without you even asking!

Your intuition is you! What could be more convenient than that? Intuition is your built-in guidance system and it already

knows what you need and it’s helping you right now!

ALWAYS CORRECT Your intuition will always be correct in what you need. The physical results may come to you differently than what you expect, but in the end it will materialize exactly as to what your Soul desires to happen. Your brain may try, and will succeed many times, to convince you that it knows better — and this is the hardest part: how to be confident about what you are receiving.

Here is a bit of homework for you. The next time you are aware that your intuition is nudging you in a different way than you are currently directed, stop and take a chance. Follow your gut.

It will probably be on something pretty benign during your day, so go with it. Nothing will be lost.

No harm done. Enjoy the experience of following your gut, and when you realize the reason for the new direction, thank yourself for following it.

that Triple Mocha Latte for $7 but your gut says, “not today,” go with it, don’t question it. One of your kids may come to you later that day asking for an extra $5. Now you have it! Or, with the extra time that was saved by just getting a poured cup of coffee, instead of that other creation, you may get to your car faster and not miss your long lost friend in the parking lot! (This just happened to me!)
