STARTING THE NEW YEAR RIGHT FOOD FIRST

by Nutrition Julie The New Year is a great time to assess where you are at in your life, to look at what seems to be working and to acknowledge what may not be working so well. It offers an opportunity to expand, grow, stretch and move more into the life and person you desire to be. It is very tempting to hit January with full steam towards all sorts of new goals and aspirations, but all too often we try to change too many things at once instead of honoring the personal journey we are on.

As a Holistic Health Coach and Nutrition Educator, I believe in the power of making smaller, consistent shifts that result in big changes over time. When looking at your overall health, it is good to consider a variety of factors such as nutrition, exercise, stress management, spiritual practice, relationships, job satisfaction and, in general, where you are at and where you would like to be.

I am all about Food First and believe that what you put in your mouth daily greatly affects all the other areas of your life. I teach from the perspective of balance and believe that if we give our body the nutrients it needs, it will keep us free of cravings, mood swings, hormonal issues, illness and disease that come from imbalance.

So how do we achieve this balance in a world that is constantly in motion and where food choices abound? It can be difficult! It seems that every time we turn around there is a new diet trend or fad that everyone seems to be embracing. Instead of trying the latest fads, diets or counting calories or points, I encourage my clients to eat whole, real foods and to tap into their inner wisdom and intuition to really assess how different foods make them feel.

I’m a plant-based, eat-local, ditch-the-packaged-andprocessed kind of gal. I am also a busy business owner and mother of five who understands that good food options need to be quick, tasty, nutritious and pass for your more picky family members. CHICKPEA SOUP WITH TOMATOES AND GREENS

3 T Olive Oil 1 Onion, chopped 2 Celery Stalks with leaves, stalks diced and leaves chopped 2 Large Garlic Cloves, one smashed and one halved 2 T chopped parsley, plus more for garnish 1 tsp dried oregano 1/4 tsp dried thyme One 15-oz can organic diced tomatoes (look for BPA-free cans) One 15-oz can or 1 1/2 cups cooked chickpeas Sea Salt and Freshly Ground Pepper 4 cups chicken or vegetable stock, or water Several cups torn greens, such as beet greens, chard, or spinach 2 slices gluten free bread In a soup pot, heat the 3 T olive oil over medium-high heat. Add onion, celery and celery leaves, smashed garlic, parsley, oregano, and thyme and cook, stirring occasionally, about 5 minutes. Add tomatoes and chickpeas and season with 1 tsp salt.

Add stock. Bring to a simmer, cover, and cook until the flavors meld and soften, 30 minutes to 1 hour. (The soup can be made ahead and be refrigerated overnight at this point).

Re-warm soup, if necessary, and stir in greens, cooking them until softened and tender. Season to taste. Just before serving, toast the bread. Rub toasts with halved garlic clove, brush with oil, and tear into pieces. Ladle the soup into bowls. Submerge some torn toast pieces in the soup so that they soak up juices and add texture.

January Q & A with...Magus Books

Share with us a bit about that transition and share some fun and interesting bits of information about the current owners.

After being in the same neighborhood for 25 years, we were ready and excited to move into something new that reflected the changes Magus has been through. Liz and Mela took the reins of Magus, and decided to move to the Arts District in Northeast Minneapolis. It’s an eclectic, diverse and growing area of the Twin Cities. The move has been great, with improvements to the new location and what we are able to offer growing weekly.

Each of us has been with Magus Books & Herbs for over 20 years and Roger Williamson, our founder, waited patiently for us to be able to purchase the shop from him when he was ready to retire. He made sure to give each of us experience with all facets of the business so that we were well equipped to take the reins. It has been a fun and exciting challenge.

What sets Magus Books apart from other retail businesses?

Shining Light and Expanding Horizons! It’s our value and mission at Magus and we are proud to be a place where anyone can come and find something interesting or intriguing. We aren’t just a retail store to buy really cool stuff at — we also offer classes and services, as well as events that encourage people to explore themselves and the universe that we all share. We are a multicultural, one-stop spirituality shop, and we hope to help each and every customer that walks through our doors.

What is new and different at Magus Books for those of us who may not have visited you for a while?

Well, we are always getting in new locally crafted items, ranging from jewelry to soaps and lotions. We carry hardto-find rare books, and the variety of tools we offer really sets us apart. There are not many places where you could find a singing bowl for meditation alongside a Voodoo Doll for healing.

What have you learned from your patrons that has allowed you to make Magus Books an even better experience?

Our customers help us and teach us so much! We really enjoy the conversations we share, and seeing our customers grow and change over the years.

It’s an honor to be able to help customers who come in needing help — we are able to listen and take them seriously as they try to explore and expand themselves. Sometimes that is selling them some hematite and sage; sometimes it is suggesting they call appropriate authorities.

What are the top things people say they are surprised to find, see or experience at Magus Books?

Books on Christianity. Books on Atheism. Satanic Bake sales where all proceeds go to charity. The friendly, knowledgeable staff is eager to help and serve. First time customers are relieved and surprised to be taken seriously and given guidance on their experiences.

What is your favorite story from your experience working at and leading Magus Books?

Mela: There was a couple who used to shop at Magus pretty regularly. One day, one of them came down to Magus saying they needed help — they wanted a spell to make it so their partner would stop hitting them. I took this person aside and had a caring conversation with them, and let them know that if they were being physically harmed that they needed to not bother with spells, but to just get out of that situation. The person was surprised I refused to sell them anything that day; I gave her a Citrine stone for clarity and courage, but that was it. The same person returned weeks later to

let me know they had taken my advice to leave and they believed it saved their life. I still think often of that customer, and share that experience with all the employees to remind and model that we really are here to help our customers in their everyday lives.

Liz: This is the sort of story you have to be with a company for 20 years or so to have a chance to experience. A young woman came into the shop one afternoon. She had been looking for a group to worship with, one in which she would not be the only person of color. She also wanted a group that would not appropriate the religion of her childhood. She was very frustrated in her search and she was very clear about her frustrations. Roger, our founder, and I had little to offer in the way of help. There were few groups seeking new members that would suit her (very reasonable) needs. She picked up a few items and went on with her day. She returned to the shop periodically, but I did not see her much for many years.

One day, a good 15 to 20 years after that first encounter, she came into Magus. She looked wonderful! She was happy, she looked as beautiful as ever, and she had a wonderful little girl with her — her daughter. Her struggles had not been in vain!

She found peace, happiness and love. It may seem like a small thing, coming into a shop now and again, but seeing the increasing joy of those who seek out a spiritual path that suits them — even if it leads them back to where they began — is incredible. a

A Night of Chanting coming to Macalester chapel in St. Paul “Door of My Heart,” a special night of chanting, music, spiritual joy, beauty and yogic awareness inspired by the music of Paramahansa Yogananda, will take place from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 13, at Weyerhaeuser Memorial Chapel at Macalester College, 1600 Grand Ave., St. Paul.

The event will be led by the Wild Moon Bhaktas and Rev. Alan Pritz, who for the past 40 years has studied, practiced and taught meditation, and spiritual guidance. The cost is $10-$15 for adults, and $5 for students.

No experience with chanting is necessary.

Yogananda was one of the first yogis to introduce Indianinspired chanting to Western audiences in the 1920s. He left a rich legacy of chants and songs in English, both his translations of traditional Indian chants and his original compositions. This event will feature only Yogananda chants.

The experience will feature two performers who have introduced Yogananda’s music to a new generation of Americans.

Every culture uses sound and song to enhance its forms of worship. Chanting involves devotional singing to the Divine — from soul to Spirit. It opens the heart and raises consciousness.

Paramahansa Yogananda explained: “Sound or vibration is the most powerful force in the universe. Music is a divine art, to be used not only for pleasure but as a path to God-Realization.

Vibrations resulting from devotional singing lead to attunement with the Cosmic Vibration or the Word.” Yogananda-tradition chants are sung primarily in English and are often mixed with periods of meditation to deepen the inner experience. As one participant said, these events are “very heart opening and sacred.”

God is not a four-letter Word

Recently I purchased a Time magazine — “Special Edition: Mindfulness: The New Science of Health and Happiness.” The front cover boasted a lovely young blond woman, closed-eyed, pouty-lipped, and looking oh-soserene. On the back was a montage of photos ranging from a food journal, a young hip black male sitting in pseudo-meditation posture amidst sidewalk strollers, an ocean-side book reader, and a walk-in-the-woods hiker. In big bold print was the theme of the issue: “How to be Mindful: Discover why slowing down and staying present leads to a happier, less stressed life.”

As a meditation teacher I am only too happy when people begin exploring their inner dimensions. After all, for centuries the world’s major religions — at least the mystical components of same — have advocated harnessing meditation to search for God and the realization that one’s essential nature is part of God. This quest for understanding is fundamentally the deepest purpose of life and reveals the truth of Being through direct intuitive experience, not intellectual theory or speculative philosophy.

Unfortunately, there’s an existential disconnect between the core purpose of meditation and its modernized cousin, mindfulness.

THE PRESENT MOMENT According to Wikipedia, “Mindfulness is the psychological process of bringing one’s attention to experiences occurring in the present moment, which can be developed through the practice of meditation and other training.

The term ‘mindfulness’ is a translation of the Pali term sati, which is a significant element of Buddhist traditions. In Buddhist teachings, mindfulness is utilized to develop self-knowledge and wisdom that gradually lead to what is described as enlightenment or the complete freedom from suffering.”

For Buddhists, the method used for this purpose is called Vipassana or Insight meditation. Sincere practitioners are committed to consciously observing experiences in order to deepen insight into reality and attain spiritual liberation. Hindus and other meditative traditions may use different modalities, but the endgame is identical: unity with God. The current mindfulness model has eviscerated a profoundly esoteric practice to become a far lighter tool harnessed to therapeutically manage stress, cultivate emotional resiliency, and foster creativity.

This downgrade has come about for

multiple reasons. One is that the medical and psychological communities find non-theistic Buddhist thought complementary to secular science. Spirituality doesn’t “measure up” in laboratory settings.

In addition, there is an ever-increasing, global shift away from traditional religion.

Various news sources report this. A May 2016 Huffpost article told us, “An ongoing spate of recent studies – looking at various countries around the world – all show the same thing: religion is in decline. From Scandinavia to South America, and from Vancouver to Seoul, the world is experiencing an unprecedented wave of secularization. Indeed, as a recent National Geographic report confirms, the world’s newest religion is: No Religion.”

In short, God has become fashionably unfashionable. Instead, terms like consciousness have become favorable replacements because they don’t trigger sensitive ideological trip wires. Another boon for the mindfulness trend.

RETHINKING BELIEFS Evolving times give rise to necessary change.

With greater understanding of the Universe comes the need to rethink modes of belief.

What was once deemed “gospel” often is seen now as political doctrine crafted by hierarchical systems to wield power over those they were allegedly tasked to serve. I get it — down with misinformation and those who abuse it.

That said, disregarding terms like God in favor of “consciousness” or other neutral language, while temporarily mollifying, doesn’t solve anything. It’s just putting lipstick on a pig, i.e., glamorizing what shouldn’t be.

The problem isn’t about God, it’s about our limited understanding. Efforts to stamp out God or related verbiage is not enlightened, it’s ignorant. We strive to reformulate language to avoid being reminded of unpleasant human tendencies. We isolate ancient practices that

conveyed transcendent experiences and repurpose them to accommodate mundane values and lives antithetical to realizing a greater existence. And this is done with a hubristic sense of self-satisfaction that revels in its smug smallness.

Clever spiritual synonyms, or the lack thereof, are meant to display freedom from archaic belief systems, but they more accurately reveal an astounding absence of inner awareness or perception of higher realities. The term God simply refers to “the supreme or ultimate reality” (Merriam Webster) and is not something riddled with boogeymen or an antiseptic praise hunter sitting in a remote corner of the Universe.

Moreover, the term implies there is an ultimate and supreme state of being versus lesser ones. Why then, in this world so bent on discovering new, advanced modes of technology, do we find the perennial pursuit of ultimate reality so undeserving of our time and inquiry? Why do we dilute opportunities to tune into higher states by focusing on bland pulpits that venerate the meaningless?

Breathe, be in the moment, return to your breath, watch your thoughts, observe your feelings, your food, whatever. Really?!

Is that the new form of spirituality? What does it actually do for you aside from

distracting you from your smart phone, job, or romantic problems for a bit? Does it provide deep insight into the meaning of life or how to attain union with the Ultimate? No. For as much value as there is concentrating the mind and regrouping from sundry distractions, none of that is spiritually significant unless there is an accompanying purposeful transcendent agenda and means to attain it.

Why? Because, simply put, we are in the world but not of it. Never have been, never will be. And there is no way one can realize this truth until they turn within in a meaningful way.

SPIRITUAL SCIENCES The inner world or spiritual domain does exist. However, it doesn’t manifest unless one is privy to accessing it correctly. That is the basis for all the spiritual sciences.

Yogic and Buddhist systems are perhaps best at having identified the Supreme Goal, plus how to attain it. This isn’t a criticism against Judaeo-Christian traditions but an acknowledgement of older spiritual systems that have been refined over time.

And, since Truth is One, what they realized can be found in all religions, albeit in less evident ways.

The Sun, Your Heart & the New Year A PLEIADIAN MESSAGE

Beloved ones, we greet you. Humanity has moved, realigned to its new potential of awakening, entering the next phase of “New Dawning” energy at the time of New Year. At that precise moment, there was an actual physical shifting of the sun in relationship to the planet. This repositioning created a multidimensional interaction to open between planet Earth and the sun. At the very moment the sun repositioned itself, it then realigned, shifting its relationship to Earth dimensionally. By moving into a direct path alignment to Earth, there was an instantaneous series of multidimensional access points reopened on the planet.

Within one moment all frequency settings within your planet changed.

This repositioning of the sun has opened up Earth’s multidimensional purpose to re-access another facet of the frequency of the sun’s rays, which contain the purer form of emanations of God. This repositioning of the sun has been a pre-destined happening. This is a sacred forging that will bring a profound shift within the magnetic core of your planet, beginning the creation of a new dimensional cycle of ongoing change within the axis rotation point within the center of Earth. These rotation cycles are forming renewal patterns of a light frequency, which is designed to further lift the veils of illusion on your planet and open human consciousness. These renewal patterns are magnetic in form and their action is to realign you back to revelations of Truth — enabling you to begin to remember and sense that which is Truth, revealing your multidimensional heart.

ENERGETIC SHIFT These dynamic changes within these renewed patterns are also designed to shift Earth’s energetic framework, to support and anchor a change of consciousness.

The sun’s multidimensional rays are fully impacting all grid alignments within the planet, reopening a multidimensional energetic spectrum that redefines Earth.

These reconstructed energies bring Earth’s energy back into realignment with the rest of this resident universe. Your planet is beginning to vibrate in accordance with your resident universe, further supporting your transition. There is the unseen action opening, a natural synergy unfolding that is being created and built upon right now between Earth and the rest of the universe.

into your multidimensional heart. As you align consciously to your heart, you anchor and create a fluidity of patterned light, which supports the expansion of this synergetic happening throughout your universe.

The sun’s rays have always held the multidimensional emanations of God, and now through this repositioning of the sun, you are receiving these higher emanation levels. Planet Earth has begun a new phase of self-realization through this more direct alignment to those multidimensional forms of God. The energy on the planet is going to be in a state of continual adjustment throughout this timeframe of 2018. There is going to be an accelerated creation of drama within the 3rd dimensional illusion on your planet. You will be need to let go like never before and to consciously make the choice of aligning to your heart over the drama. It’s as though all the density within the planet will be unearthed, nothing will be able to stay hidden through this transitional phase. Anything that does not contain Truth will be unveiled.

STAY CENTERED Throughout this unearthing process you will need to stay centered within your heart, focusing only within the moment.

Use the conscious breath (breathing in and out of the mouth) and trust in the processes that will open all around you.

This time calls for you play witness to the unfolding moments by staying connected to that which is within you.

In contrast to all the upheaval that will take place through the unearthing, you will be able to utilize the pure awakening energy that is available through your heart. The newly developed patterning within the sun’s rays reopens a doorway to realign within your own unique sacred aspect, which exists within the expanded sphere of the heart.

Your heart cells are naturally multidimensional and are able to fully respond and align to these expanded multidimensional emanations of God. You choose the moments that you begin to channel this energy from the sun’s rays. You choose when you open to receive, like a flower to the sun. You get to activate the metamorphic process for the redesign of your heart’s multidimensional potential.

Leading into this next phase, you have been in a deep and continual process of “not knowing,” of nothing seeming clear, nothing seeming to work in your life.

As you move through January the sun’s rays carry a natural light to illuminate

your path. Collectively you can move as a conscious community, with “each like a ray of light,” you build a collective torch lighting the way.

STEPPING FORWARD You begin this month of January to be able to see, sense or feel the path in front of you. You can begin to step forward as you relink into your multidimensional heart one step at a time.

The conscious activation by you with the sun through your heart is powerful.

You are to work in alliance with the sun’s rays, always bringing your consciousness to rest on the sun’s rays. Developing this strong alliance between your heart and the sun through conscious choice will move you through a series of multidimensional layers that make up your heart’s chamber.

This recalibration process enables you to synergize with the expanded emanations of God. This month will be an essential opportunity to develop your anchor, creating a pathway Home to higher conscious awakening. Your process will require you to continue to slow down and utilize the conscious breath. This will support you in the metamorphic process that will take place within your heart. You will discover the power of transformation of your heart, giving you direct access into the state of fully receiving the light blessings, which are being held out to you from the God essence held within the sun’s rays. You will be self-realized as you actively realign to your gifts through reconnecting to the emanations of God. A REDEFINITION On this path there will be a redefinition taking place within you. Through letting go of all that you think you know and all that you think that you understand, this process can accelerate. You must be guided through the light on your path, moving into another level of trust.

Your path, which is lit by the sun’s rays, illuminates your destiny for you to follow.

Open into the living essence of brilliance that is held and created within the sun’s rays. Witness the light, which is bursting outwards across the planet each day, each moment. Open into the reflections of light that are within the water, on the leaves of the trees, that are mirrored on any surface that surrounds and calls to you.

You are to consciously work with these emanations of God and build this alliance through your heart. The sun’s rays are at their most potent when the sun breaches over the horizon at dawn. Your

heart recognizes the potency of the energy and at that moment there are to be revelations held within a series of reflected light within the rays. There will be Truth emanating directly through the expanded expression of God moving and opening within your heart.

DIVINE CONNECTION Understand that each one of you has a unique Divine connection to these emanations of God held within the light rays of the sun. You are a unique aspect of God, and it is at the very moment of sunrise that you can claim and reawaken to your unique aspect of God. Be conscious of your own unlimited potential as you move your awareness to align to the sun’s light frequency. Know that it is essential that this process must be activated through your own conscious choice. Only you can seek out your own unique aspect of light that is held within the sun’s rays. Utilize the words, I AM. This anchors Truth, of your own unlimited God consciousness aspect. And through the action of those words, I AM, you become an expression of your own creation energy.

With I AM, you reopen the doorway of reunion to Self. This action of directly engaging with the sun’s rays is the revelation to your own source of light.

This is time for a rapid reconnection within the multidimensional chamber of your heart. Within this chamber exists your natural state of multidimensionality, of being. Within your heart exists your link to your unlimited potential.

Your conscious breath plays a pivotal role, anchoring the life force expression of multidimensionality within the cells of your physical body. By using the conscious breath within a chosen moment as you engage within the sun’s rays, you activate an acceleration of rejuvenation of the cells. A nutritional light can enter the cells of the body, creating healing. The conscious breath opens up a powerful receivership action within you.

Remember, the conscious breath says, “Yes, I am willing to receive my light, and yes, I am willing to let go of any density still holding within my cells.”

NATURAL ABUNDANCE When you choose to consciously receive in this way, you draw towards you the natural abundance that exists on all multidimensional levels. You open into self-liberation.

This conscious action of the conscious breath will transform the moments within your life. You don’t necessarily have to fully understand all of the steps of this process. You only need to utilize the conscious breath for realignment.

This conscious action by you does

create a weave of your own unique pattern of God through the entire landscape of your world. The conscious breath slows you down within the process of life, and develops within you a more stable, aligned connection to support you within this transition phase that is happening now.

This New Year of 2018 heralds forth a new canvas for you to create upon. You will be brought deeply into the meaning of all that you have lived and endured during this 3rd dimensional process up to this point. These revelations open up an appreciation for your human experiences along the zigzag path of your life, which collectively have brought you to who you are in this very moment. In retrospect, you are to gain clarity of the many roles you have played, and to glimpse what your future roles are to entail.

Through the building blocks of your multidimensionality, a natural, ongoing unfolding will arise within you, a deepening understanding of the vast content of your individual heart space. There will be moments of recognizing the I AM frequency of Self. These reflections will be held up to you like a mirror through the expanded emanations of light from the sun. You will become more aware of being constantly held and supported through the essence of the sun’s rays as you move through levels of self-transformation.

In reality, you each are “the One.” Through reconnection to the conscious light of your being, you radiate this Truth outward to humanity. You are witnessed as you consciously launch your self.

ONGOING PROCESS AFTER THE NEW YEAR: 1. Place both palms of your hands on your heart.

Bring your awareness into your heart and use the conscious breath (Remember, the conscious breath is breathing in and out of the mouth.) Allow the connection into your heart to build.

2. Use the sound, QUEN TAH, bring the sound directly into the heart, as many sounds until you feel the heart aligns to the sound.

3. Open the reflections of the sun’s rays by bringing your full attention to the sunlight (whatever form), while still anchoring through your heart.

4. Bring this sound into the sunlight: QUEN TAH ENNN. 5. This sound aligns you into the essence held within the Sun’s rays. Let go and allow your self to continue to make the sound until you feel bathed by the sun’s rays. Continue to hold your heart.

An unusual kite formation created by an inspired grand trine (formed by the full Moon, Jupiter, Neptune), bisected by difficult opposition (Moon opposed Venus, Sun, and Pluto) encourages us to process all we’ve lost or released on both a personal and political level in 2017, and then develop an inspired vision for 2018. Concurrently, a competitive, determined Mars–Jupiter conjunction stirs conflict between divergent needs within us or in the world around us, and nudges us to do our personal best.

As I sat, or in this case, lay down, as I took my guidance through a shamanic journey, Spirit spoke with clarity (a theme for next year) on where we are being directed in 2018.

2018 is a year of connection: connection to Spirit, connection to our innermost self and connection to others. It’s about going inside first for clarity, to discover and name what exactly it is that we are desiring for our lives. The energies will be moving things even faster in 2018, and so, to manifest, we must have clarity. That means we must know what we want! Beyond the inner journey, we are asked to connect more deeply to our sense of Spirit energy — that place where all is in existence already, just waiting to spill its abundance forth to us when we ask.

Connection to others, to take a glimpse at our surroundings: How do they make us feel? Are we afraid to go outside alone? Do we know our neighbors? Where is our sense of safety that allows us to share this life path with others? We are asked to expand ourselves, to welcome in others who may not currently be part of our lives, to create camaraderie and develop our tribe as we move forward.

Community is a desire from Spirit, as it sees us creating greater distance between ourselves, alienating, judging. This is a new year to discern who and what is of service to your sacred path, but not judge. Allow those who can walk their walk alongside of you, the freedom and welcome to do so, whether or not their path looks like ours. We are called to be stewards of Spirit’s fellowship, to expand our territories and our vibrational fields so there is always room for more Light to shine.

Co-creation: Sometimes in our giftedness, we can assume too much responsibility for what happens and what doesn’t. We are asked in 2018 to remember that we are an extension of Source energy. We, alone, do not exist. So, in manifestation, we must always welcome in Source as a creative partner. Our thoughts are not only our thoughts — our feelings, not just our feelings. We are transmitters, and what we put out is vibrating through not just us, but everyone and everything around us. We co-create with the entirety of all that is now, and with all that is in potential. Be soft, be kind, be love.

Global: There have already been some pieces of extraterrestrial disclosure on a global scale with the release of more sealed files to come. What’s been released so far has been pretty tame.

Most of these files were supposed to be released around the world by all nations. The U.S. refused to follow. With the requests for the freedom of information act in place, it is allowing a slow trickle to take place here in the U.S. There are going to be more shakeups regarding all forms of corruption globally in government, especially in the banking and insurance industries. Employee rights will be reviewed in all workplaces. Companies that are not transparent in treating their workers will see fines levied at them.

National: There will be more shakeups coming out in government, justice and presidential scandals. Laws that have been on the books for years will be dusted off and we will finally see these criminals doing actual prison time. Agencies involved in conflict of interest will be seriously examined for their crimes against the public.

Fictitious laws made to protect criminal companies will be struck down as unconstitutional. There will be more opportunities for growth for small and midsize businesses.

Local: Government, police and businesses in the community will be having their practices examined in how they serve the public. Deadly force will not be tolerated. Government will be accountable to the public on every level. Law enforcement will have policies that examine the personal family lives of employees, as well as their service to the public. Misconduct will not be tolerated. Businesses that allow hostile work environments to continue will not be welcome. These companies will be fined for violating human rights. Laws that have allowed these companies to act like an individual will be struck down as unconstitutional.

Look for a McDonalds veggie burger this year. Also, the “clean meat” industry will continue to rise, growing cultured meat from cells in a factory setting. The planet is overpopulated beyond repair and feeding the masses will become a bigger and bigger issue.

Expect indigenous Americans to take a stand against Trump’s slashing of monuments and parks for the benefit of special interest groups.

Federal courts will be busy this year.

A famous animal that has been held in poor conditions in captivity for years will be released to sanctuary amidst celebration from animal rights groups, which have been working on securing its release for years.

The new highly touted drug Radicava (edavarone) for ALS will prove to be a disappointing failure, but there will be the release of another promising treatment/drug by the end of 2018.

ALS will continue to be in the news, as a well-known athlete will announce having acquired this treacherous affliction. Targeted stem cell therapy is in the pipeline, but it will be another two or three years before it will be available for ALS patients.

Expect a proliferation of specialty food stores, as the public is willing to pay higher prices for novelty food items and organic everything.

Seniors and Boomers without the necessary retirement funds will start banding together, sharing houses, and there will be a “senior house mate matching service” springing up in some communities to match together active seniors with similar interests and personalities to live as housemates. It will use a payment/barter system where housemates help each other and split costs. Tiny house communities will also be on the rise.

Mother Earth will continue to produce massive hurricanes, volcanic eruptions, fires and earthquakes all around the world, the likes of which have never been seen. 2018 will be an exciting year, as the threat of nuclear war becomes very real.

To get a reading on the year ahead, I sat with my shamanic guides in the inner garden. They said 2018 will come in with a blast of powerful energy. Many people will be ready for this now, as they are searching for ways to make their lives more meaningful and are willing to let go of the baggage.

The winter will start out quite cold, but will mellow later. Spring will bring too much rain and flooding in some places.

The great spiritual and energetic shift is behind the numerous revelations of sexual misconduct among celebrities and politicians. The President will continue to flail away and embarrass the nation, but please remember that his role is to project the “shadow” of the nation’s psyche. Months ahead there will be another huge shift. The stock market will suddenly crash, but a calmer energy will settle in afterward.

Ready or not, a new consciousness emerges, along with new ways of living on this Earth.

Long hidden facts come to the surface, secrets are revealed, and high-ranking people are exposed during these months.

February, May, June and November are particularly vulnerable to natural disasters, as well as upheaval in the financial markets.

April has its focus on everything about labor — expect strikes or other labor-related unrest.

March and December are centered around the abuse of freedom, nationally and internationally, as well as breakthroughs in bringing freedom to places where there was little previously. There will be rapid changes and much unrest.

September and November bring emotions and passion to the surface, causing considerable upheaval globally.

Specifics: September, we will see the signs of financial downfalls, recession sets in. The Euro will plummet and towards the end of 2018 and into 2019, riots will take place as a steep economic decline takes hold. Meghan Markle gets pregnant in April, before her wedding to Prince Harry in May. Expect more volatile weather conditions, volcanic eruptions, earthquakes and melting of glaciers. THE INNATE SELF DNA Interaction with Quantum Information

An excerpt from Quantum DNA Healing Our DNA interacts with our consciousness through our Innate Self or “smart body” as it is known, which is contained within our personal quantum field. It represents the bridge between our cellular structure, our DNA, and our consciousness, and so is an inseparable part of us.

Our “innateness” comes from our “knowingness,” not of who we are in a general sense, but who we are unto ourselves. Self relates to the Divine within and, therefore, only comes from Source. Innateness predisposes one to the truth of our own inherent divinity. Innateness swipes a layer of “individual-ness” upon our cells, which is unique to each of us, and that, in this way, we direct ourselves only unto ourselves (i.e. internally and uniquely). Only our Innate knows what we and our bodies need to fulfill our soul’s divine purpose in this life and for us be healthy. Our Innate is involved in our spiritual survival, the prime directive for the human soul.

Innate is aware of all things at the cellular level and is broadcasting all the time.

It broadcasts so well that it flows into that which you call the Merkaba (personal quantum field).

Our cells seem to react to our sense of innateness, because they respond when we recognize when we are “home” and are thus able to bring us back into a state of balance and health. However, if one switch in this governing mechanism malfunctions, as we will see happened in my case, we lose the connectivity to send a clear message of this to our cells.

The majority of people could not reasonably be expected to work with the complex quantum energies that influence our biology and lie outside our own mental capacity and our linear, 3-dimensional reality. Fortunately, as it turns out, we actually do not need to know exactly how to do this to achieve health or well-being, because our Innate Self does.

when we employ techniques such as muscle testing, osteopathy body work, body talk, Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) tapping, and positive verbal affirmations. The consciousness tools presented later in this book are also ways that we can work with our Innate to affect positive change in our bodies. All of these techniques access the internal intelligence of the body (Innate) using conscious intent and deliberate action to elicit a favorable and beneficial energetic, emotional, and, ultimately, physical response.

As our Akashic memory and DNA become activated during the re-encoding process, and more multidimensional energy (information about our event history) is at our disposal, the Innate becomes more proficient in its ability to respond effectively.

In other words, as Lee Carroll points out, “the wiser we are, the better we act, and the greater chance of survival we have.”

Since living cells in any organism evolve and grow from more simple stem cells, the phenomenon of quantum entanglement may explain the mechanism by which information about the whole organism is carried in the quantum attributes of its smaller parts, in accordance with the quantum holographic principle. Cells can become highly specialized and orchestrate extremely complex functioning in the body when all the DNA information is shared by quantum means — ubiquitously and instantaneously.

The fact that the vital body systems can continue to function even after a spinal cord injury, which effectively severs the brain’s connection with the body, is evidence of the existence of a system of governance outside the brain. This is the Innate Self ‘s role. Innate is responsible for the seemingly mysterious and miraculous healings: accelerated recoveries, spontaneous remissions, and unexplained disappearances of incurable diseases. There is no mystery after all when the Innate is involved, bridging the gap between quantum intelligent information that holds all the answers and our bodies. It is not a force outside ourselves — it is something within all of us.

However, as smart and capable as our Innate Self is, it rests in autopilot and plays a default set of instructions to our cells, unless we communicate our desire for something different. When our consciousness can communicate with our quantum DNA via the Innate, we can now begin to see the enormous influence we have over the information we provide to our cells that ultimately influences our genes.

Every time a cell reproduces to make another one, there is a query within the division process. That is to say, a question is asked…

Innate is the one doing the asking and answering, “Do I make a copy of this one or go to the blueprint?” And the question is answered by this question: “Is there new information?” The answer, “No, make a copy.”

In the absence of new information, our DNA will default to the existing programs, messages defined by our existing biological and quantum (spiritual) inheritance.

Conveniently, scientific experiments have shown that DNA operates like a language, and so we can communicate with it without decoding. It will respond to us by us simply talking to it. This observation is critical to our understanding and appreciation of the fact that we can influence and reprogram our genes by introducing new information to our DNA in the form of words and frequencies, without having to physically alter our genes.

Our Innate is ready to access the information that is appropriate for us and is waiting for our instruction. Through our consciousness then, it is possible to override any erroneous DNA information that may have altered our genetic coding and instruct our DNA to “translate” the information in our blueprint differently for a more desirable genetic outcome. a ALTHEA S. A cling-free New Year SPIRIT LEAVES

by Janet Michele Red Feather It’s the New Year’s edition of The Edge magazine, and I’m guided to return to the wisdom of David Godwin from the beyond. Channeled for Phyllis Galde’s FATE Magazine readership by the eminent Psychic Medium Janice Carlson, Godwin advised that there are three things you will be asked once you transition from this life to the next: • Did you love well?

• Were you generous?

• Were you willing to let go?

As a New Year’s gift to myself and those in my immediate sphere, I dedicate my journey to answering these three questions in the affirmative.

I have a loving heart, but I have not loved well. Like all ’50s babies, my love was driven largely by Disney. In romance, I was the princess in the blue taffeta gown, twittering birds fussing at the shoulders, awaiting the rescue prince. Of course, the prince never really arrived; I had to rescue myself. Ultimately, I learned I was able to emanate more love when I allowed myself a life of more freedom and individuality than I ever harbored while hobbled in joyless marriages.

The solution to question one is eloquently related in Rilke’s Duino Elegies.

The mystical German poet implores, “Is it not time that, in loving, we freed ourselves from the loved one and, quivering, endured? As the arrow endures the string to become, in the gathering outleap, something more than itself? For staying is nowhere.”

As to David’s second question, I have always felt generous in my heart toward others. Still, I am modeled after my kind parents, who had survived the Great Depression. I was taught to be frugal, to conserve, to maintain. My incursion

into Mandan culture taught exactly the opposite: the measure of the peoples’ hearts was their propensity to give away.

During our time in Indian country, Cedric would repeatedly admonish me, “Are you doing your beadwork? How’s the pipe bag coming along? Have you found a place that sells Pendletons? You have to think ahead; you don’t want to be caught unprepared.

You never know when you might have to give away.”

Everywhere on the Rez were examples of hyperbolic acts of the conferring of lavish benefits on loved ones: genuine eagle feather war bonnets, Pendleton blankets, and horses were given away regularly. No real traditional person would dream of keeping things just to have them.

The people didn’t wait for holidays to be generous; the act of giving was a ceremony practiced frequently and did not go according to the calendar.

The last of the Amazing Godwin’s advice is the most difficult. I know deep within that the key to lasting happiness resides with the willingness to let go. One evening, I was meditating with the aid of Dick Sutphen’s Balancing the Chakras CD. In one of his hypnotic suggestions his voice rhythmically urges, “I am at peace with the world and everyone in it.”

These words broke into my day like an invocation as I pulled up to a convenience store one morning. The echo of his words

brought me to an abrupt, epiphanic halt.

In that moment, I realized it is only my mind that creates conflict — not other people. No matter what others say or do, I have a choice of what message I give myself. I can suggest I’ve been wronged, hurt, slighted or on the receiving end of negative intent — or, I can choose to remain calm, realizing that what happens is not under my control. Other people play out their envy and greed, traumas and hurts; the best we can do is try not to be reactive and harm them more.

I use Sutphen’s suggestion as a mantra every time I get in my car, repeating gently, “I am at peace with the world and everyone in it.” I do not let myself say it until I truly believe it: then it becomes the truth for me. I have no conflicts with anyone. To become truly enlightened, all I need to do is let go. That is my New Year’s resolution: I will let go. Rowdy, a 27-year-old dressage disciplined horse, greets me for his treatments and his owner sees his comfort and relaxed nature return afterwards. She also notes the return of his enthusiasm for entering the arena to exercise.

Entering my 20th year as a chiropractor and sixth year as an Internationally Certified Animal Chiropractor, owners of my geriatric animal patients attest to the benefits and wonders of chiropractic maintenance care. Common treatment feedback includes: “He acts like he’s a puppy, again”; “She’s hopping up to her favorite window view”; and “His ears perk up and he happily enters the arena to exercise!”

Milo’s Story

by Brenda Brazil It all started five years ago when Milo, our beloved Bichon, began showing signs of slowing down. At that time, he was 10 years old.

Mom, at 75 years of age, lived upstairs in a duplex we own. Milo ran up the stairs ahead of Mom, because he knew he would get a treat after being walked. He chased his tail in anticipation! As the weeks passed, we noticed that he was slowing down: he would take one step at a time up the three flights of stairs — going slower and slower as the days passed. We waited patiently for him to do it on his own.

At that time, Milo had pulled a tendon in his hind leg trying to run away from a vet who was trying to clean his teeth. We was in pain and began limping. The vet said it would be $1,200 to fix it.

We reached the point when we needed to carry Milo up the stairs, because it became too painful to watch what was happening. We gave serious consideration to putting him down, because Mom couldn’t carry him up and down the stairs every time. We were so devastated at the thought of

such a possibility and really struggled with the decision.

Around that same time, my son Isaac came home from barber school talking about a new “water” and how amazing it was. I thought it was a cult and wanted no part of it.

Water is just water, I thought.

My mom, on the other hand, opened her mind and invested in a machine to make what I now call “Miracle water.”

Within two weeks of drinking that water, Milo was running up the stairs and chasing his tail and he stopped limping!

We couldn’t believe it.

Honestly, it changed his life! It gave him a lot more life to live.

Milo recently passed away, and we are so grateful we had five more years with him! It was all due to opening our minds to a different way of thinking. Dogs & Biting Issues

by Colleen Fogarty Have you heard stories about the family pet biting someone, or perhaps you’ve been bitten yourself? It’s a sad and stressful event when your beloved Fido takes a bite out of someone.

These are a few ideas on how to prevent this from happening or to take action so it does not happen again.

If your pet hides under a table, know that this is their safe spot and that needs to be respected. When your pet snaggles at someone, trust your pet. There is a reason, and it is important to find the logic

in their behavior and not to force them to move into a space where harm can come to others.

It has been my personal experience that certain people force themselves on pets. Their attention is unwanted and that should be addressed. Never allow someone to force themselves into your pet’s boundaries. That only sets the stage for possible incidents.

Some pets are fearful of small children, because they sense the child may unknowingly harm them. I have been witness to the child who pokes the dog’s  see BITING on p. 22 J A N UA R Y 2018

Heart Coherence can help keep our Pets Well

by Lia Hubbard Our beloved animals on this planet have been a source of unconditional love, joy and wellness since the beginning of time.

When Power Versus Force was written by David Hawkins in the ’90s, the average vibrational frequency of humanity’s emotionality was about 205.

In contrast, the emotion of joy hangs around the frequency of about 540, so it seems as if much of humanity existed with a mediocre emotionality. When in high emotion, a person is more wave and less particle, according to quantum physics. And a human heart has 5,000 times more electromagnetics than the brain. When one is within 4 feet of another person, you are within their heart space.

That made me wonder: if I catapulted my emotionality to a higher frequency, and sit in the space of my 18-year-old cat, Kisses, could it improve her wellness?

When doing this, I took into account something Michael Roads mentioned, that domestic animals get used to a constant buzzing sound —the sound of the constant thoughts of humans. That explains how my cat knows immediately when I am awake in the morning and comes to greet me.

So, I started sitting next to Kisses, closed my eyes and emotionalized love to her. She immediately started purring.

Then, I told myself to catapult

this emotion times ten, until my heart felt like it would burst. The more I was able to do this, the louder she purred. I listened to her purring to gauge how well I was able to hold such high emotion in my heart. However, I found that if extraneous thoughts came to mind while I did this, Kisses would stop purring and walk away.

Every day now she meows me over to the same special corner of the house to sit and be immersed in “sitting in joy together,” in the sacred space. It has taught me to hold her in high emotion always, no matter how scattered I may be throughout the course of the day.

I learned that this space between us is sacred space.

Kisses no longer has symptoms of arthritis in her hips. She also used to not like being picked up and carried around. Now, I get into my heart space, hold her on my heart, and she purrs and wants to be carried around at night. This has improved my wellness, too. It is like being bathed in joy.

Because emotions are a memory of the past, I needed to memorize and harness a new high emotion. In time, I learned how to be present in the world daily in this new emotionality.

face, puts fingers in the eye, and pulls the tail — and those are just a few reasons why dogs may be fearful. It is also my experience that adults aren’t always aware of this and, unfortunately, this can lead to a bite.

Before a dog will bite someone, they will growl, the ears will go down, and the tail will go between the legs. Those are a few of what I call “tells.” Pay attention to these signs.

Before company (family gatherings or more than four people) arrives, I remove my dog from the group and he gets to play with his toys in a room that he already has claimed as his safe haven.

I have been involved with cases of dog bites that related to: rescues; a heightened sense of responsibility to protect the owner; a person forcing themselves on a dog and trying to pick the dog up; children who have been overly aggressive, usually resulting in a dog being cornered; and invading the dog’s safe space (my dog will go to his kennel to hide and adults and children alike want to get him out to play).

Yes, some adults have no common sense when it comes to animals and I feel it is our responsibility to protect our pets. When intervening in a dog fight (usually the dogs work it out) owners will intervene and may be bitten accidentally. Of course, when dogs

sense danger they will bark, and they will attack if they perceive imminent danger.

This behavior relates to the dog’s role in the family. This role is imprinted on their heart as protector. It is our job to let them know what is safe.

Back to the rescues. In many cases, the adopting family does not have any history about a new dog’s previous life. This becomes a significant challenge if the dog was abused. I advise people to never bring a dog into a home where there are children if the dog has been listed as aggressive. It is also important to have trial periods if you have another pet in the home, to see if they will adapt to the environment.

When a dog has bitten someone, I encourage owners to delve into the circumstances leading up to the bite. They will discover that the old saying, “it takes two to tango,” comes into reality. Going forward, assist your dog with behavioral training.

I promise this will make a difference in everyone’s life.
