Thandiwe Newton

Actress Thandiwe Newton has been known by an anglicised version of her name for decades.

Now, she is reverting back to the original spelling, saying she is "taking back what's mine" after the "w" was missed from the credit of her first role, and it stuck.

Newton's mother is from Zimbabwe . All her future acting projects will now be credited as Thandiwe Newton, the star said. "That's my name," she said. "It's always been my name. I'm taking back what's mine." Newton had originally told the magazine her name was a Shona word, but later posted on Twitter to clarify, saying: "Sincerest apologies from me, for error in @BritishVogue. My name 'Thandiwe' is Zulu, my Mother's tribe
