The final stop of the 2026 Community Bank Strathmore Division Two season has arrived with Coburg Districts and Westmeadows facing off in the grand final at Windy Hill on Saturday.
These sides have met twice throughout the home and away season with Coburg Districts getting the job done both times, but not convincingly with margins of 10 points and eight points.
It has been nine long years since the Lions made the grand final as they look towards breaking the drought and taking home a first EDFL senior premiership under the Coburg Districts name.
A couple of the Districts superstars have had incredible seasons in Riley Bentley in the middle and Curtis Rawlings up forward.
It is a different story for the Tigers who are set to play off in their third consecutive grand final in a row after going down to Rupertswood by three points in 2025, and 19 points to Taylors Lakes in 2024. The sides have also had very differing paths to reach the grand final. The Lions are looking to make it the perfect season and to go undefeated, while the Tigers are coming into the match with an underdog mentality after scraping into fourth position. The Tigers took down Hadfield in an elimination final and went on to beat Glenroy in the preliminary final by 22 points. It would be a fairytale finish considering the rough start to the season and missing personnel.

Bentley has gone at an average of 38 disposals, six inside 50s, and nine score involvements, a remarkable output from a remarkable player who has led the way for his side. The division’s equal leading goal scorer in Rawlings has kicked 62 goals on the season and has been the main man for the Districts whenever they need a goal or need someone to stand up ahead of the football. Jack McNamara and Darcy Reid could be among the inclusions for the side to round out one of the best forward groups in the competition, however Ali Saad will be a key omission through suspension. Jordan Kosteas and Rhys Gleisner have both been the standouts for the Tigers in what has been another strong campaign for their football side.

Kosteas has been super consistent and gone at an average of 34 disposals, eight marks, and seven score involvements throughout the season. Gleisner, meanwhile, has proven himself to be one of the most damaging players in the competition with his high impact. DIVISION ONE PREVIEW
CBS DIVISION ONE PRELIMINARY FINAL PREVIEW Oak Park will take on Moonee Valley in the preliminary final at Section Road for a spot in the grand final. Fresh off a disappointing defeat to West Coburg by 72 points, the Kangaroos will be hoping for a big response. On the other side, the Valley cruised past Tullamarine to secure a 35-point victory. The Valley dominated pressure around the ground, winning the tackle count 25 and causing turnovers all over the ground. Mitch Clarke proved damaging in the forward half, kicking four goals against the Demons defenders. Clarke was joined by Bevan Newell, who had 28 disposals, four clearances, and two goals. Sean Callander joined his teammates with 11 one percenters, showcasing his intensity and pressure around the contest. The last time these two teams played against each other was in the qualifying final, where the Kangaroos proved victorious by 15 points.
The Kangaroos controlled possession for the first three quarters of the game, with the Valley winning clearances by six in the final term. Oak Park’s Tyson Old proved dominant in the front half, kicking three goals alongside his 25 disposals and 10 inside 50s. Jedd Taylor provided support in the middle with 12 clearances among his 26 disposals and eight tackles. For the Valley, Nathan Williams starred with 38 disposals, 13 inside 50s, and eight clearances. He was supported by Haidyn Shade who had 24 disposals, seven clearances, and five tackles in the midfield. The game will be won in the midfield and who takes their chances, both are evenly matched with stars on every line. Will Oak Park get its chance at grand final redemption, or will Moonee Valley continue its terrific season?
The Valley nearly completed a miraculous comeback down by 41 points at three quarter time, kicking 34 points to close the gap.

CBS PREMIER DIVISION SEMI FINALS PREVIEW
Keilor will be gunning for a fourth straight grand final when it takes on Strathmore at Coburg City Oval this Saturday. The Blues claimed their fourth successive minor premiership on the back of 14 straight wins to finish the home and away season to sit out last weekend. Strathmore was on top of the ladder for most of the year, however slipped up late in Round 17 against Maribyrnong Park which handed top spot to the Blues. The Mores were able to account for Pascoe Vale last weekend, defeating the Panthers by 17 points. Despite finishing third last year, Strathmore took down Keilor in the same match last year which powered them towards their third premiership in five years. Keilor has lost this same match twice in the last two years, however history is on their side with every minor premier making the grand final since 2012. These two sides first met this year on Good Friday when Strathmore came away with a comprehensive 37-point victory, while Keilor flipped the script in Round 12 with a 74-point smashing. The big question this week will be how does Keilor limit Matthew Allison? The full forward has been unstoppable when he has featured for Strathmore in 2026, booting 32 goals in seven games including a bag of eight last weekend with four coming in the final quarter.
Maribyrnong Park will be aiming for a historic preliminary final appearance when it takes on Pascoe Vale at Coburg City Oval. Brodie Holland’s side seem to be peaking at the right time of year with three wins in a row including an incredible 70-point victory against Essendon Doutta Stars in the elimination final. Pascoe Vale was brave last weekend, however not quite good enough when it mattered, going down to Strathmore by 17 points. Marby has had plenty of troubles against the Panthers in 2026, going down by 56 points in Round 6 and 66 points in Round 15. One interesting watch this Saturday will be how does Marby use Blade Sulzberger. Brodie Holland sent the Tasmanian to Dylan Laurie which proved to be a masterstroke with Sulzberger booting five goals and keeping the defender to a season low 16 touches. The Lions could be eyeing off Charles Bolmat this weekend with the 21-year-old ranked first for rebound 50s and intercept possessions at the Panthers. The defender had a day out against Marby in Round 15, finishing with 36 disposals and 11 score involvements and will need to be negated this week if the Lions are any chance of causing another upset.
Keilor’s defence is ranked third for points against in 2026, however they haven’t conceded a score of more than 80 since Round 12. Brad Xavier will lead the Keilor defence and if he can stand tall for most of the day, it’ll go a long way in booking Keilor’s spot in another grand final. THE FOOTBALLER | essendondfl.com.au
