EDEX Sithuwam Art Competition recognises and encourages artistic talent in youth EDEX Sithuwam which has become a much loved brand for students island-wide and is synonymous with the EDEX Expo, a CSR project of the Royal College Union, held its 6th EDEX Sithuwam Art in January 2014. From the massive response of over 15,000 art entries this year, 200 of the best were showcased at the Main EDEX Expo, giving an opportunity for these selected artists to be recognised by the public at large, whilst bringing recognition to their artistic talents and their respective schools. The winners of the Sithuwam Art Competition received their awards by Hon. Bandula Gunawardena, Minister of Education on the 2nd day of EDEX Expo 2014 at the BMICH on 18th January 2014. A workshop for the winners was held at the same venue with assistance of the Faculty of Aesthetic Studies of University of Colombo. The main sponsor of the art competition is Lankem Robbialac a reputed leader in the paints in Sri Lanka, was encouraged by the number of participants from schools island-wide. Lankem Robbialac has come forward for the second consecutive year as Main Sponsor for 2015, adding colour to the competition. This year too the competition was open to Primary (Grade 1 to 3), Junior (Grade 4 to 6), Intermediate (Grade 7 to 9) and the Senior category (Grade 10 -13), respectively. Some colorful thoughts of the young artists were captured at the event. Sathma Methsadi, won 1st place in the Junior section. A grade five student of Museaus College, Colombo 7, her endearing relationship with her maternal and paternal grand-parents had prompted her to draw her winning entry on “We are elders”. She entered the competition with the support of her parents. Tharushi Kaveesha, won 3rd place for her entry on “Street Life”, and will utilise the money the gift money to buy more paints. Purna Subashitha, 16 years, submitted his winning entry on “Bana on a Poya Day”, and wants to share his artistic talent and become an art teacher, to promote the artistic skills of students in his school, Malabe Boys Model School. Vindya Nuwangani Tennakoon, 19 years, from Holy Family Convent Kegalle, based her 1 st place winning entry on a personal tragedy and deep emotions expressed in her entry
