ABOUT US EDEN COURT ARTS EDUCATION Eden Court runs the largest and most extensive Arts Education and Outreach programme of any theatre in the UK. Our Arts Education team work both ‘inside’ and ‘outside’ Eden Court, right across the Highlands all year round.

Eden Court’s Arts Education team live within their communities and deliver drama and dance workshops in a range of locations (not just schools!).

Eden Court’s Arts Education Department are throwing open the doors for a very special day of free events and activities, designed to give you a taste of the many things you can take part in at the theatre all year round.

Take your pick from a range of activities and events, from Street Dance to Film Making, Acting to Horror Make-Up and a whole lot in-between. Please note that some events are drop in, some require advance booking. Check with box office for details.

It will be a fun packed day with activities for all ages. We’ll be running regular backstage tours, and you can also enjoy some super summer films! Come along and try something new.

Eden Court’s Arts Education Summer Open Day will take place on SUNDAY 22 AUGUST from 11am – 4pm.

Over 60 classes take place every week at Eden Court in all arts forms for all ages. More than 2000 people attend classes every month.

Eden Court is the only theatre in Scotland to offer Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) courses in Drama and Dance. These courses offer pupils from across the Highlands the opportunity to study at Eden Court for an SQA Higher Dance, Drama or Intermediate 2 exams.

Eden Court has been delivering London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA) Examination classes in the Highlands for many years. They run weekly at the theatre as an extracurricular activity, as well as in and out of school through our Outreach workers.

Eden Court’s drama and dance education has helped young people across the Highland region to develop confidence, social skills and fitness.

INVERNESS BOOK FESTIVAL THU 12 – SUN 15 AUG 2010 This year’s Inverness Book Festival is full of great events and activities for young readers of all ages and abilities.

Bring your little bookworms along to hear from great children’s authors like Lari Don (12 Aug), Katie Morag creator Mairi Hedderwick (13 Aug) and Barry Hutchison (13 Aug). We’ll also have great activities with the Bookstart Bear (13 & 14 Aug), and Eden Court Arts Education workers will be telling Tales from Outer Space (14 Aug) and doing some Star Gazing (12 Aug).

Aliens Love Underpants by Claire Freedman. This will be followed by a pants decorating party as well other equally cool pants related activities. It's going to be Pants-tastic mayhem!! Please note - we’ll bring the pants ... new ones of course!

Have you ever wanted to be in a musical? Come along to Musical in a Week and over 5 days you will learn and rehearse songs and dance routines leading up to a performance on the final day.

Another chance for you to try your hand at Ballroom dancing over the summer months. Each Friday, tutor Caroline Coomber will focus particularly on the modern waltz, quick step, tango and rhythm foxtrot with a few sassy Latin moves thrown in for good measure. Set Design and Dressing

Whether for school productions, amateur theatre runs or your own Lord of the Rings-style living room, Special effects artists Tom and Siobhan Lauten guarantee a creative experience for participants.

As well as preparing people for their own future creations these participants will design a set for use in a dance and drama performance in the OneTouch Theatre on Wednesday 04 August.

Learn the basics of fighting for the stage with Eden Court Drama Worker, Islay MacRae. As well as creating an impressive fight sequence (without hurting yourself!) you will also learn how to apply stage make-up and wounds to add a further dimension to your fight sequence which will be performed at the end of the day for family and friends.

The Stanislavski Approach

THE PROCESS OF THE ACTOR Stanislavski for Adults) Tutor – Eden Court Drama Artist John Batty. A great chance to develop and consolidate your acting technique by working on great texts using the Stanislavski approach. The course will help actors support their interpretation of a text and the creation of character using the Stanislavski ‘method’. The course will be six days in duration and culminate in a public performance of short scenes at Eden Court.
