I am a late bloomer when it comes to art

The first time I used my grandmother’s sewing machine was in college after she passed away. I taught myself to use it and the first item I made was a mini “Sablay” which served as an inspiration for me to graduate.

During the pandemic, I started making portraits of my friends and K-pop crushes

If I felt lonely, I’d get my pen or charcoal pencil and draw someone close to me. It later progressed into crocheting and sewing for people. My first project was a sunflower Then scarves, bags, and amigurumis. I got different patterns online and experimented with others I couldn’t find I also challenged myself to make a big project, like the Snorlax plushie.

All the projects I made were gifts to my friends and family except for the outfit that I wore during the Year End Party last year. When I learned of the theme, the first thing that came to mind was to make a replica of The Man Outfit from Taylor Swift’s Eras tour It was exciting to be nominated for best dressed that night

Crocheting and sewing have become my happy place and I am grateful we have a work-life balance at Vasquez so I have time for my hobbies.

Take a Long, Deep, Deliberate Breath

Do you wish you had more energy throughout the day for your kids, work projects, or fitness routine? Do you feel exhausted at the end of the day, have trouble falling asleep, or feel like you’re burning the candleatbothends?

If so, give deliberate breathing a try. It’s easy, effective, and the improvementsyouexperiencemaytakeyourbreathaway

Memory and recall - when taking a test, learning a new skill, or delivering a presentation

Deliberate breathing should be practiced daily to achieve maximum benefits. You can begin with just five minutes a day and increase your time as the exercise becomes easier and more comfortable If five minutes feels too long, start with two minutes and add another minute as you progress. Some great times to practice this skill and make it part of your daily routine are after a workout, transitioning from ‘work mode’ to ‘home mode,’ or before you go to sleep. Here are a couple of simple techniques to try:

Diaphragmatic breathing helps you learn how to use your diaphragm properly Place one hand on your upper chest and one hand below your rib cage, allowing you to feel the movement of your diaphragm (lower hand) as you inhale. Keep the hand on your upper chest as still as possible while you fill your belly like a balloon.

Rhythmic breathing helps you learn how to pace your breathing, and particularly, in maximizing heart rate variability or HRV. Count during each inhale and exhale to make sure they are even in duration (e.g., 5 seconds in and 5 seconds out).
