One year ago, William H. Whitford ended his earthly journey of 97 years.

He will be forever missed by his wife, Jean McManus; children, Holly, William G. and Alain, Cameron and Amy, and the late Bruce Whitford, as well as stepchildren Laurel McManus, Elliott and Lizbeth Hall, (late Kevin) McManus.

He is lovingly remembered and missed by grandchildren and great grandsons as the most special Poppa who was always ready with a joke or two.

Memories of his loving, witty and generous life will always be with us until we can gather together again.

With heartfelt thanks, I’d like to acknowedge the empathy shown by all the people that attended the funeral service of Albert Schaffer.

Thank you to Rev. Piotr Zaczynski from Immaculate Conception Church, Laing Funeral Home, and to all who donated to Hospice and the Alzheimer’s Association. Also thanks to those who sent sympathy cards, mass requests in his name, and to the people who dropped off and donated food and all who worked at the funeral lunch.

Suzanne R. Swanson/ Wittek of Eden, New York died Sunday, April 16, 2023. She was born February 22, 1938 in Batavia, New York. Graduated from Batavia High School, attended Ithaca College, Bryant Stratton Business Institute and the State University earning a Bachelor of Professional Studies degree. She also studied at Cornell University School Labor Relations and the University Buffalo School of Management. She work as an office manager and accountant for Roswell E. Pfohl Architects and Engineers and succeeding companies for 17 years, US Sugar Co., Director of Finances at the Blind Association of WNY for 10 years ending working career as an auditor for the New York State Insurance Fund for 20 years. Suzanne was married to Architect Warren N. Wittek of Eden, NY who died in 2002. She is survived by 2 sons, R. Mark (Lori) Storch and Jeffrey R. (Dianne McGorray) Storch. Also survived by grandchildren Terri, Danielle and Corey Wittek and Zach, Jordan, Rachel and Kylee Storch. Suzanne was a lifelong Lutheran and was a member of various Lutheran churches. Suzanne was one of the original incorporators of Airlanes Jr. Football in Cheektowaga and a former member of the Board of Directors of Industries for the Blind of New York State, SAAC (Social Agencies Activities Committee), Lutheran Charities, The Lutheran Foundation of WNY, Habitat for Humanity and the Boys and Girls Club of Eden. She was a member of the Board of Directors of Friends of the Eden Library, Organic Youth, WNY Conference Council of UpState NY Synod of the ELCA, Alzheimer’s Respite Group of Eden and St. John’s Home for Children. She was also qualified as a Stephen Minister and an Assistant Chaplin at Greenfields Health and Rehab Center in Lancaster. She was also a member if the Eden Up to Date Club and Eden Book Club. Suzanne’s greatest joys were experienced in spending time with friends and family, gardening, cooking, the Buffalo Bills (even after 4 Super Bowl losses) swimming, golfing, skiing, attending the theater and grandparenting. Visitation will be held Friday, April 21, 2023 from 4pm-7pm at Laing Funeral Home Inc. 2724 W. Church St. Eden, NY followed by a Memorial Service on Saturday, April 22, 2023 at 10am at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 3512 Clinton St, West Seneca, NY. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lake Chautauqua Lutheran Center, 5013 Route 430, Bemus Point, NY 14712 or St. John’s Lutheran Home for Children, P.O. Box 312, Athol Springs, NY 14010-0312.

Karen Maybee

Karen Maybee (Jimerson) of the Cattaraugus Seneca Territory passed away April 14, 2023 at the age of 81 Years. Beloved wife of the late Gary H. Maybee. Loving mother of Scott E. Maybee. Grandmother of Leanna and Brennan Maybee. Great Grandmother of 8. Sister of Delores, Birdena (William) and the late Virgil, Marlene, Florence, Henry and Delancy Jimerson. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Friends called at the Wentland Funeral Home 10634 Main St. (Rt 62) North Collins, NY where funeral services were also held. Karen was a member of the Seneca Bear Clan.
