With a love for the Paso Robles wine region that spans decades, the Kuyper family planted roots here in 2005. They searched for the perfect property on Paso’s coveted west side and ultimately found it: a ridge-top parcel blessed by Mother Nature with inimitable terroir. Perched at 2,000 feet, this 240-acre ranch boasts some of the highest vineyard elevations in San Luis Obispo County.
There are a few ways to experience the bounty and beauty of Hawks Hill Ranch Winery. The Tasting Room is open Thursday through Monday from 10:00AM to 4:00PM. Estate Ranch Tours are bookable online for groups of up to four, typically offered once daily at 10:30AM, Thursday through Saturday.
If your plans fall outside those standard offerings—or if you’re hoping to bring a larger group—please don’t hesitate to reach out directly. With a bit of notice, we’ll do our best to accommodate and ensure your visit to Hawks Hill Ranch is nothing short of exceptional. While Tasting Flights and Bottle Services are excellent ways to imbibe here, the Estate Ranch Tour will be a memory you’ll cherish for years to come.
Come experience the future of West Paso—rooted in tradition, inspired by the land, and elevating your experience in every way!
Located in the Adelaida District sub-AVA, the family began planting vines in 2006 with the goal of growing some of the region’s finest fruit. Nineteen years later, Hawks Hill Ranch now spans 32 planted acres and is proudly sourced by some of Paso’s most acclaimed vintners. The vineyard is broken down into 17 blocks. All red varietals consisting of Syrah, Grenache, Mourvèdre, Zinfandel, and Cabernet Sauvignon. With a love of true Burgundian Chardonnay, we also source fruit from San Simeon, just steps from the Pacific Ocean, crafting a white wine stylistically in line with those of Meursault and Montrachet.
At Hawks Hill Ranch, we believe in ranching and farming first—winemaking is the culmination of those two foundational practices. Rather than forcing the land into submission, we work in harmony with it. Our approach is grounded in a balanced blend of generational farming knowledge and contemporary insights—from regenerative organic and biodynamic practices to neighborly wisdom shared over vineyard fences. Our mission is to guide what nature has already begun, always with a long-term vision for the health of the land and the depth of the wine.
We’ve assembled an extraordinary winemaking team led by two of Paso’s most respected talents: Anthony Yount and Don Burns. Anthony is widely known as one of the premier white wine making talents in the county, if not the state. Don is rooted in Saxum lore and has a coveted 100pt. score with his own brand, Turtle Rock. With their shared commitment to precision, creativity, and transparency, we ensure our wines reflect the land’s full complexity—layered, expressive, and unmistakably Hawks Hill.
Since opening our doors in Summer 2022, our tasting room has welcomed guests to experience this story firsthand. Just a quarter-mile past Daou on Adelaida Road, our restored 100-year-old barn is perched on a mountaintop with panoramic views, just two miles from our estate vineyard. Tastings are offered by appointment in a warm, relaxed setting that invites you to slow down and settle in.
But it’s our Estate Ranch Tour experience that has quickly become one of the most iconic offerings in Paso. Guests are chauffeured to the estate and set out in RTVs (Kubota side-by-sides) for a private, immersive vineyard journey. The tour begins in a 250-year-old Manzanita grove and winds through five distinct vineyard blocks, where you’ll taste wines grown exactly where you stand.
As you explore, you’ll encounter the true heartbeat of our land: an ever-growing flock of working sheep and their watchful guardians, our family of Great Pyrenees. Fluffy and gentle—nicknamed Paso’s Polar Bears—these dogs roam freely, playing their natural role as protectors. The sheep are vital to our regenerative farming approach: fertilizing the soil, restoring forest floors, and clearing undergrowth across the property. The land transforms with the seasons, and so does the flock. Depending on when you visit, you might see lambs wobbling toward their mothers during lambing season, sheep resting under summer oaks, or the flock grazing through vineyard rows just after harvest.
All of this unfolds across a landscape that feels almost oceanic. The rolling hills of West Paso resemble waves frozen mid-crest, glowing in a blue afternoon hue. Being just 10 nautical miles from the Pacific, the ranch is shaped daily by the ocean’s titanic influence. In the afternoon, a blanket of marine layer rolls over the Santa Lucia ridge into the Adelaide (as we locals refer to it), allowing vines to halt ripening efforts and retain acidity, an important factor indeed!
The tour culminates in a mountaintop lunch beneath the ancient Manzanitas, where you can take it all in with a glass of estate-grown wine and a sense of belonging. Offered year-round, the nature of this outdoor excursion experience encourages guests to embrace the time of year by dressing appropriately for the forecast. This 2.5-hour experience is typically offered for groups of one to four and truly redefines what it means to visit wine country. You can reserve online with ease, but if you’re planning for a larger group or hoping to visit outside standard offerings, we encourage you to contact us directly. We’ll do our best to create a personalized Hawks Hill Ranch experience just for you.
Picture this: a modern urban resort that embodies the essence of SLO. That’s the Hotel San Luis Obispo. As alluring as the surrounding hills and as easygoing as the quintessential California beach towns just up the road, this boutique lodging is as much a destination as it is an experience. Located in the heart of one of California’s most beloved college towns, for which it is named, it reflects the spirit of youth while embracing the timelessness of coastal living in an accessible yet upscale manner.
The bright and airy atmosphere is enhanced by welcoming touches, such as hand-woven rugs, custom built-ins, and natural woods. The rooms and suites exude modern simplicity, making it easy to forget your cares and simply enjoy the view. The resort gently rises along the SLO skyline, offering impressive outlooks throughout the property. As you settle in, it becomes clear this that is a place that prioritizes the experience as much as the people, pieces, and surroundings that make it.
Hotel San Luis Obispo proudly celebrates creativity and culture through its contemporary art collection, featuring site-specific pieces created exclusively for the hotel by California artists. Various mediums—ranging from paintings and works on paper to large-scale installations, and murals—are displayed throughout the hotel in public areas (lobby, stairwell, spa, restaurants) as well as in each guest room and corridor. Each work has been thoughtfully selected to reflect the cultural history and natural beauty of San Luis Obispo.
There is a suite to suit every style at Hotel San Luis Obispo. A total of 78 spacious light-filled guestrooms exhibit a playful, modern aesthetic that helps guests unwind. Special touches—like white oak floors, colorful hand-made Nani Marquina rugs, and original artwork—capture the area’s iconic architecture, which reflect SLO’s laid-back style: a fusion of ranch and beach. Ultra-comfy beds draped in down comforters and deluxe linens, sunny bathrooms, high-tech amenities, and cozy slippers and bathrobes invite guests to linger all day. There are five types of accommodations to choose from.
The Morro Suites feature over 800 square feet of indoor-outdoor living space. Each suite includes spacious closets and a full bathroom, complete with a private soaking tub and shower. A separate living area boasts a large pull-out sleeper sofa, refreshment bar, balcony or terrace, and a small powder room for entertaining.
Another indoor-outdoor option is the Tolosa Studios, which range from 619 to 669 square feet. Each studio comes with its own lounge and a large terrace, complete with a seating area that offers expansive views of SLO’s tiled rooftops and nearby mountains.
If group travel is more your style, the Mission Double Queens are perfect for gatherings with friends and family, offering a roomy 495 square feet. The floor plan is ideally set up for enjoying conversation or coffee on the couch or balcony, while select rooms provide the option for a solo soak in the tub.
The Tolosa Terrace Kings make the most of SLO’s sunny weather, featuring 450 square feet of indoor-outdoor space, highlighted by spacious, full-size terraces. Each room includes a sitting area for two with a dining or work table, a comfy sofa, and a refreshment bar.
The Paseo King, despite being the smallest offering, packs a big punch. It also features a sitting area for two with a dining or work table, and guests can enjoy tea on the balconies overlooking tiled rooftops, nearby mountains, or downtown SLO.
Finding a place to dine on-site is easy, thanks to Executive Chef Ryan Fancher, who leads the culinary department at Hotel San Luis Obispo with an innovative and thoughtful approach to cooking. He shines a spotlight on local ingredients sourced from the hills and sea surrounding SLO. Guests and town residents can choose from two bars and three dining options. Whether you’re looking to grab a bite or sip and stay for the night, you’ll find it at Hotel SLO.
Two watering holes are available on-site: in the lobby and on the rooftop. The S.Low Bar welcomes patrons downstairs with airy charm, serving as a vibrant social hub. This bar pays homage to the former Shanghai Low
restaurant, part of SLO’s historic Chinatown, with its iconic “Chop Suey” sign hanging outside. Stop by for a craft cocktail and small bites, with courtyard seating available daily from 11:30AM to 9:00PM.
High Bar is located as far up as one can go at the top of Hotel SLO, where cocktails and light bites are served amidst lush greenery and stunning views over the rolling hills. Self-explanatory menu categories (High Bar Specialty Cocktails, Booze O’Clock, Margaritas, and Mocktails) make it easy to prioritize your drinking choices. Bites are sourced from neighboring Piadino’s pizza oven, and Monday features half-priced pizzas. If you’re in the mood for more than lounging, gather some friends for a round of bocce ball. The space is open daily from 2:00PM to 9:00PM.
Hotel San Luis Obispo offers a great grab-and-go selection to start your day at Daily Bread. Located in the lobby, it features artisan breads, pastries, breakfast burritos, and both espresso and matcha beverages, all of which can be enjoyed on the sunny and spacious Garden Courtyard terrace from 7:00AM to 2:00PM. Daily Bread also creates the beautiful fresh breads, delectable pastries, and desserts found at Piadina and Ox + Anchor.
Piadina serves up a casual vibe with farm-fresh fare inspired by Italy and the Central Coast for dinner, lunch, and Sunday brunch. Here, Chef Fancher highlights local ingredients from the hills and sea surrounding SLO. Outdoor dining on the garden patio makes this restaurant a truly delightful experience. It’s open daily for breakfast from 7:30AM to 10:00AM, except Sundays when brunch is served from 11:00AM to 2:00PM. The “All Day Menu” is available from 11:30AM to 9:00PM.
For a more upscale experience, Ox + Anchor showcases Chef Fancher’s modern take on classic steakhouse cuisine, inspired by SLO’s nearby terrain. From plate to glass, a carefully curated list of the Central Coast’s best wines keeps the menu rooted in local terroir. In June, the restaurant was honored as one of Tasting Table’s 14 Best Steakhouses in California and has received recognition from the Michelin Guide more than once. Enjoy dinner there Wednesday through Sunday starting at 5:00PM.
Hotel SLO’s Sol Spa is another amenity worth exploring. It offers a gateway to rejuvenation and restore in its indoor-outdoor lounge, salt sauna, pool, jacuzzi, and meditation room. You’ll leave feeling refreshed and ready to get back to life, thanks to their spa menu, which includes massage and facial services. Summer specials are available, in addition to lashes and brows, skincare, body polishing, and waxing. Upon arrival, guests receive a robe, slippers, and a locker, granting access to the pool and hot tub. Just call or click to book daily from 9:00AM to 6:00PM.
The Hotel San Luis Obispo is also a picturesque venue for memorable occasions. With nearly 10,000 square feet of unique, naturally lit meeting and event space, it’s ideal for team meetings or wedding celebrations. A welcoming modern aesthetic, state-of-the-art A/V capabilities, and catering from Chef Fancher set the bar for successful gatherings. From intimate boardrooms and wine cellars to grand ballrooms and rooftop terraces, Hotel San Luis Obispo has the meeting space you need.
Innovative options allow event planners to think outside the box. The Seven Sisters Ballroom is the main event hall. The Ah Louis Terrace is a covered open-air space perfect for breakout meetings or alfresco dining. The Bishop Peak Boardroom comes with a conference table, executive seating, hospitality bar, and a Bluetooth TV at the ready. The Wine Library features a beautifully displayed collection of Central Coast wines just off the Ox + Anchor dining room. The Rooftop Terrace and High Bar can host guests for cocktails, craft beer, and light bites. The Garden Courtyard is a centrally located outdoor venue with casual spaces and fire pits situated near the S.Low Bar.
Like the town itself, Hotel San Luis Obispo is a cultural crossroads. Here, discovery becomes innovation, experience becomes wisdom, and adventure becomes a life well lived. Located just a block from the historic Mission San Luis Obispo de Tolosa, Hotel San Luis Obispo is steps from downtown and serves as the perfect launching point for countless Central Coast adventures. Hotel SLO is just a hop, skip, and a jump away from Hearst Castle, Paso Robles, Morro Bay, Cal Poly, Montaña de Oro, Avila Beach, and Pismo Beach. With so many choices, they even offer custom itineraries to make exploring the beaches, hill country, wine scene, and day trips a breeze.
In every corner and experience, Hotel San Luis Obispo captures the soulful, sun-drenched charm of the Central Coast with a sense of purpose and play. It’s more than just a place to stay—it’s a reflection of San Luis Obispo’s creative spirit, natural beauty, and relaxed pace. Whether you’re soaking in the view from a private terrace, savoring a locally inspired meal, or unwinding in the serenity of Sol Spa, the hotel invites you to immerse yourself in the region’s rhythms. So next time you’re looking to slow down, reconnect, and indulge in thoughtful luxury, remember to take it SLO.
Romance runs deep at La Lomita Ranch, and it’s just a click away from being your go-to getaway destination in SLO wine country. Whether you’re looking to book an anniversary trip, a weekend with the girls, a small business retreat, or go on a holiday “just because” with that special someone, this little hill will have a major impact on how you vacation in San Luis Obispo going forward. Though chiefly known as a wedding and special events venue, La Lomita allows guests to experience its magic for more than a fleeting night.
Those lucky enough to have attended a wedding or special event at La Lomita will understand its draw. And yet, the occasional nature of marriages, milestones, celebrations, and anniversaries naturally makes the prospect of returning there more of a chance encounter than a sure bet. With this in mind, La Lomita enables its patrons to be a few different kinds of guests: those who are invited, those who visit, and those who come to stay.
Life at La Lomita is an enchanting dreamworld. Tranquility instantly overtakes any other emotion that may have tagged along en route to this picturesque venue. Once home to famed Arabian horses, the storied property now beckons guests from around the world to the serenity and rare beauty of the Edna Valley appellation. Moreover, meticulous landscaping highlights native plants in addition to pristine lawn and rose hedges, all of which extend down to a private pond filled with birds.
La Lomita Ranch is one of the most intimate venues for weddings and special events in San Luis Obispo. Once there, one feels as though they’ve walked into a beloved family home. This impression carries over into their bed and breakfast (B&B) offering. Couples and groups alike will delight in the selective seclusion and camaraderie that comes with La Lomita’s accommodation options. Privacy is just as attainable as socialization, given the ground’s seamless interconnectivity.
La Posada comprises seven rooms/suites that originally served as horse stables. The rooms sleep two to four people each and face each other across a charming grassy fountain-crowned courtyard that overlooks the pond and rolling hills. Each room is uniquely designed, featuring handcrafted Mexican furnishings, oil-rubbed bronze fixtures, Saltillo tile floors, and Talavera tiled bathrooms. It is indeed the most romantic place to stay in SLO.
The Hacienda is a private vacation rental, boasting three bedrooms and two bathrooms that can accommodate up to six guests quite comfortably. The primary bedroom has a king-size bed and a private shower with a laundry closet. The two guest rooms each have a queen bed and share a bathroom. An intimate living area and dining room welcome guests to relax and dine together. It even has a full kitchen with an outdoor grill and patio areas that are walled in.
All stays at this B&B include a European-style continental breakfast, which is served in The Lounge during reservation dates. Included is a ranch-fresh egg dish, fine charcuterie and cheeses, organic yogurt, fruit, and granola, as well as gourmet coffee, tea, and juice. The Lounge is open daily to all guests. A small sitting space, tables for two, barstool seating, and a kitchenette with wine bar access make it ideal for moments you want to stay in with the comforts of home.
Italian towels and linens by Rivolta Carmignani and hypoallergenic goose down duvets and pillows will keep even the most resolute morning persons hurkle-durkling. Exclusively blended bath amenities and plush signature-monogrammed terry robes and slippers further the luxurious overtone. La Lomita’s accommodations are also TV-free, enabling guests to truly embrace the sanctuary space concept.
Located off Orcutt Road, which extends out the southeasternmost side of San Luis Obispo, on La Lomita Way, the ranch, despite only being on the outskirts of town, feels worlds away. Given its proximity, getting there or going into SLO couldn’t be easier. For those who want to soak in every minute they can on the property, a multitude of restaurant delivery options make it just as easy to stay in. Besides, a cemented courtyard, featuring a fire pit and several separate seating areas, lets guests soak up the spectacular scenery. There is no shortage of great views at La Lomita, and guests are encouraged to explore and take advantage of what speaks to them.
Around the property unfolds Edna Valley, known for exceptional wines that regularly garner international recognition. Even then, La Lomita Wines is a rare vineyard. Every bottle produced reflects the remarkable character of
the estate vines, which grow on historic Islay Hill. It is the only vineyard on this 20-million-year-old volcanic morro. Beneath this surface lies soil stirred from over 500 feet below, imparting a richness and complexity to La Lomita Wines.
Theirs are cool-climate varietals: Chardonnay, Albariño, Pinot Noir, Grenache, Syrah, and what’s been called a “stunning” GSM blend. All are more than a product of their terroir; they are a testament to the geographical and generational richness that makes this plot of land, and the wine crafted there, truly one-of-a-kind. Guests simply cannot be fully immersed in La Lomita living without partaking in a wine tasting when staying there.
La Lomita Ranch should be relished for more than just a fleeting night—it begs to be savored, taken in slowly and intentionally, much like its wines. Whether you’re seeking rest, romance, or a refined escape, La Lomita Ranch offers a stay unlike any other in San Luis Obispo wine country. Its rich history, breathtaking setting, and thoughtful design create a space where time seems to slow down and every detail invites connection—both with the land and with one another.
San Luis Obispo’s premier B&B is the place you’ll reminisce about until your next trip there creates new memories. From the intimate charm of La Posada to the quiet elegance of the Hacienda, guests are welcomed not just to visit but to belong. With vineyard views, luxurious comforts, and a hospitality that lingers long after check-out, La Lomita living isn’t just a way to vacation but also a way to experience life at its most beautiful, meaningful, and unforgettable. It’s a place to return to, time and again.
The California coastline stretches 840 miles and features more than 420 public beaches, offering a diverse array of seaside experiences—sandy and rocky, sunny and foggy, crowded and secluded. There’s undoubtedly something for everyone in the Golden State, which is generally divided into Northern and Southern sections, with the Central region sandwiched in between. CVLUX celebrates the best of the Central Valley, and its residents have a special fondness for the Central Coast. This section comprises three oceanfront counties: Monterey to the north, San Luis Obispo (SLO) in the middle, and Santa Barbara at the southern end. The SLO beach round-up detailed here breaks down six areas and their coastal options while traveling down its 100 miles of coastline along the Cabrillo Highway.
At the northernmost end of SLO County, near the Monterey County line, lies Ragged Point Beach. Access requires a steep 0.6-mile hike down a coastal bluff, but the stunning waterfall, small creek, and pristine rocky beach make the trek worthwhile.
San Simeon serves as the “Gateway to Big Sur” from the south, similarly known for its holistic vibes, slow pace, and emphasis on the rugged coastal forest. This is exemplified at San Carpoforo Creek Beach, a remote and sylvan spot due to being less explored.
Arroyo De La Cruz Beach is hidden from the highway, offering the likelihood of privacy while enjoying the breathtaking views of La Cruz Rock, which is part of the California Coastal National Monument.
Before reaching the William Randolph Hearst Memorial Beach, you’ll pass the Piedras Blancas Elephant Seal Rookery, a beach reserved for elephant seals. The memorial beach itself is situated just below Hearst Castle, near the landmark’s winery and tasting room. With ample picnic sites, parking, and the option to bring leashed dogs, it’s hands down a local favorite.

Moonstone Beach is the pride of the charming town of Cambria and is considered one of California’s best beaches. Named for the smooth and soft stones that line the shoreline and wow visitors. Tranquil scenic bluffs and a boardwalk trail make it an appealing option for all ages.

Cayucos State Beach is protected under California’s state park system. This 16-acre sandy shore is perfect for kids and pets, making it ideal for swimming and surfing. The Cayucos Pier and a charming promenade filled with shops enhance its allure.
At the southern end of town, Cayucos Beach resumes, separated by a strip of cliffside homes. Oceanfront properties overlook this shoreline. For the adventurous, a walk along the coast to Morro Bay may be an exciting option—it’s just a few miles away.
Pet parents will relish the opportunity to let their fur babies roam off-leash at Morro Bay Dog Beach, located at the north end of town where Toro Creek flows into the Pacific Ocean. This white, sandy beach is accessible from a parking area along Highway 1.
While dogs are not allowed on Morro Strand State Beach, it offers plenty of day-use activities and facilities. You can enjoy picnicking, fishing, swimming, windsurfing, and surfing, in addition to various trailheads.
Morro Rock Beach is named after the iconic State Landmark, sometimes referred to as the “Gibraltar of the Pacific.” It marks the last peak of the Nine Sisters, a series of extinct volcanoes stretching from SLO to Morro Bay. Birdwatchers will delight in this designated bird sanctuary, known for its population of peregrine falcons.
Sandspit and Montana Del Oro Beaches are technically located in Los Osos, which borders Morro Bay. It’s accessible from Morro Bay via water (great for kayakers and paddleboarders) and from Los Osos via trails (for those who love hiking). Four miles of pristine beach and sand dunes offer abundant flora and fauna, but there are no services, so plan accordingly.
Just before Pismo, you’ll find the Shell Beach Surf Spot. The shoreline here is minimal, but it’s perfect for those seeking great waves rather than soothing sand. Shell Beach is slightly more exposed than surrounding beaches, resulting in more consistent conditions.
Pismo State Beach stretches approximately 17 miles along the southernmost end of SLO County, fronting the towns of Pismo Beach, Grover Beach, and Oceano. At the north end lies the uber-walkable town itself, where the Pismo Beach Pier takes center stage. This area boasts numerous attractions, including hiking, surf fishing, kite surfing, and clam digging.
If oceanside camping is your preference, North Beach is an excellent choice. The North Beach Campground offers direct access from the Beach Foot Trail. Pismo’s Monarch Butterfly Grove, home to the largest overwintering colony of the species in the USA, is conveniently located next door.
Grover Beach Surf Spot is popular for beginners and those seeking mellow surf due to its consistently smaller waves. Pismo State Beach, which includes Grover, is one of the few state beaches where vehicles are allowed on the sand, making it easier to find favorable spots.
The Oceano Dunes, also known as the Pismo Dunes, are recognized as the finest and most extensive coastal dunes remaining in California. These seemingly endless sandhills attract many off-road enthusiasts for their scenic views. Nature lovers will appreciate this natural preserve, which also features freshwater lagoons. The dunes represent the last sandy area in San Luis Obispo County before entering Santa Barbara County.

There’s only one way into Avila and Port San Luis Harbor, making its few small sandy beaches feel exclusive despite being easily accessible and highly frequented. The smallest beach, located at the far end of town, is Fisherman’s Beach, which is convenient for those camping uphill.
Old Port Beach is the next beach over. If you want to launch a boat from the beach, this is the place to do it, as it features a ramp down to the sand and permits four-wheel drive vehicles for loading. Seasonally, bonfire pits and lifeguards are available.
The cove’s main beach is situated right downtown. Avila Beach is family-oriented, stretching half a mile long and divided by the Avila Beach Pier. Facilities such as bathrooms, outdoor showers, barbeque pits, picnic tables, volleyball and basketball courts, and a play area are all within walking distance, as are kayak and wetsuit rentals.
Pirates Cove is a hidden gem for those willing to navigate a trail before descending wooden steps to rocky sand. Locals affectionately refer to it as Cave Landing or Mallagh Landing. Note that it is a clothing-optional beach.
Lure Fish House celebrates all things seafood. Diners are treated to an expansive menu centered around sustainable, local products from trusted suppliers, with organic options whenever possible. Their wine collection highlights nearby vintners, while the full bar offers specialty cocktails crafted from freshly squeezed juices. The cocktail bar also serves as the raw bar, providing a variety of fresh oysters on the half-shell and seafood towers. Another attraction is their stunning gluten-free fish starters. Every meal here is as pure as it is enticing.
Lure aims to provide their guests with a fun and exciting seafood experience filled with healthy and environmentally friendly delicacies at each of their seven locations. The legacy began in November 2010 in Camarillo, followed by establishments in Ventura, Westlake Village, Santa Barbara, Scottsdale, and Porter Ranch. The most recent location opened in March 2024 at the corner of Monterey and Santa Rosa streets in San Luis Obispo (SLO).
While there are various ways to enjoy Lure, dining in offers the ultimate experience. The restaurants exude a classic coastal California vibe. For the SLO location, the team wanted to preserve the industrial aesthetic of the original building while incorporating elements inspired by English pubs, reflecting their commitment to making each Lure unique with thoughtful design and care.
Online ordering is also an option, and some locations offer private dining rooms—SLO can accommodate up to 10 guests. Currently, only three locations accept reservations, including SLO. Bar seating features a full-service menu and operates on a first-come, first-served basis. A significant portion of the dining room is reserved for walk-ins, enhancing the accessible atmosphere.
Despite having seven locations across California and Arizona, the restaurants maintain a local, personal touch. Lure Fish House was founded by Patricia and David Cortina in 2010. Later, their three daughters and sons-in-law also joined the company. Each family member is deeply passionate about high-quality food and providing an array of healthy options they would be proud to serve their own families. Thus, Lure’s menu features two generations of family-favorite dishes.
Lure’s commitment to quality and freshness distinguishes its fish house concept from the competition. To ensure the best seafood, they collaborate with local fishermen to source ingredients that are delicious as well as environmentally sustainable. From the moment the seafood leaves the ocean to when it reaches your plate, the Lure team ensures it receives the care and respect it deserves.
The nature of fresh, locally sourced ingredients means the menu changes with the seasons. For instance, Lure just brought in Alaskan Halibut, which will likely be removed by the end of fall. Whenever possible, Lure reaches out to local fishermen and growers to identify the best ingredients available at any given time.
Besides seafood, several seasonal sides and salads highlight vegetables at their peak. Local produce, like butternut squash and asparagus, are served only during their prime season to guarantee maximum freshness. Currently, Lure is sourcing organic pixie tangerines from a small grower in Ojai to enhance the flavor of their Tangerine Dream cocktail and Miso Sea Bass Skewers.
Each location aims to showcase items that are local to its specific region. At the SLO outlet, they currently offer two oysters, Grassy Bar and Pacific Gold, sourced from Morro Bay. Another delectable option to look forward to in their menus in the coming autumn is black cod, also fished from Morro Bay.
Separate menus for dinner, lunch, happy hour, dessert, taco Tuesday, and even kids tailor the Lure experience to cater to guests’ unique palates. An array of seafood classics, including mussels, fish tacos, chowders, ceviches, lobsters, salads, and seared fish with various sides, makes it easy to find something delicious and different with each visit.
Fresh and sustainable seafood is available in every section of Lure’s menus, but the Raw Bar section holds prime placement as a unique hallmark of the brand. All items in this section are prepared at the Oyster Bar, allowing guests to see the creation of these dishes as they eat. Sitting at the bar lets you watch the shuckers at work, enjoy quick service, and chat with the bartenders, all while relishing the dish you just ordered with drinks at the ready.
The fish house is renowned for its Charbroiled Oysters and Cioppino. In fact, oyster dishes rank among the top five most popular items, served charred and baked with parmesan, butter, garlic, and herbs. Almost every table orders the Pop Rock Shrimp. Lure’s fresh catch of the day, which comes with a choice of two seasonal sides, is another favorite. The fish offerings vary seasonally and by location, yet consistently rank as a popular choice.
A meal at any Lure Fish House is sure to be memorable, but the SLO location holds a special charm. The town’s beauty, laid-back atmosphere, and access to fresh ingredients, combined with its remarkable original building all inspired the establishment. Lure crafted the interior with special touches such as the oyster bar oven and a vintage gallery wall. The SLO spot is also fortunate to be close to Morro Bay, where Lure sources many species of local fish and several varieties of oysters.
Having been in business for 15 years now, Lure’s most significant evolution has been the development of its local network of fishermen and farmers. The brand has always prioritized quality ingredients, but as it has grown, Lure has forged closer relationships with suppliers, gaining greater transparency and trust regarding food sources. These relationships have made it easier to source local seafood and produce.
Whether you’re savoring a freshly shucked oyster at the raw bar, indulging in the seasonal fresh catch of the day, or enjoying a handcrafted cocktail infused with locally grown produce, Lure Fish House offers more than just a meal—it’s a delectable experience rooted in community, sustainability, and family tradition. Each location, particularly the thoughtfully designed SLO outpost, embodies a distinct personality while remaining true to the brand’s coastal ethos. This blend of environmental stewardship, culinary excellence, and warm hospitality creates an unmistakable dining allure. With ever-evolving seasonal menus and a deep respect for local sourcing, Lure continues to set the standard for what a modern seafood restaurant can be.
