Vogue references in the cycle of fashion trends how old styles from different eras come back and appear in modern fashion. Mary Shannon Wells from fashion magazine, “80s fashion has made its way to the 21st century”. The designs reference the idea of fashion repeating, specifically the comeback of 80’s fashion in 2019. By emphasizing primary colors, the collection with push forward the idea of going back in to an era of basic fashion in which current trends are inspired. The old fashion will be combined with the modern minimalist styles that are common today. The travel between time is shown by the surrealist styling seen throughout the collection. Dynamic, clean photography and simple type will describe the company’s push to bring old fashions back into the future.

why do they...
matter
Clothing may make up the majority of an outfit, but accessories are more significant than you may think. You might find yourself spending just as much time shopping for accessories as you do for clothes — and rightfully so. As Giorgio Armani once said, “Accessories are important and becoming more and more important every day”. You can also look to an iconic fashion icon like Iris Apfel, who has been known to say things about the importance of accessories like, “My mother knew if you bought a couple of really good architectural outfits and put your money into accessories, you could create a million different looks; she taught that to me, which I think was invaluable.” Accessories and clothing have equal significance in an outfit, working together
to create an ensemble that expresses your style and who you are. Accessories further emphasize your personal style, taste, and preferences. They also present endless opportunities for outfits, helping you make the best of each and every item you own. Clothing may physically take up more space in your closet and outfit, but accessories are the important details needed to complete each look. On their own, a handbag, scarf or headband may not make much of an impact. However, when combined with clothing, accessories help create a solid outfit. Accessories matter just a much as clothing, providing you an entirely new opportunity to express yourself. Thanks to accessories, you can create a flowing wave of style from head to toe. pair up The first step in selecting the best shoes is choosing shoes that complement your clothing, rather than ones that compete with your outfit.
you bought them—if they don’t fit the event, the environment, and the occasion, then they are—at least temporarily—the wrong shoes.
For that reason, we always recommend pairing busier shoes with simple outfits and wearing simple shoes with clothing that features a lot of prints, embellishments or dynamic accessories. It can be tricky to find shoes that complement your clothing, without dominating or being overpowered by it, but the reality is, it’s a simple balancing act. It doesn’t matter how pretty they are, how comfortable they feel, or how discounted they were when
Glitzy evening shoes have no place in the office, and flip-flops aren’t generally considered acceptable for a formal event. So how do you know which shoes you should wear?

Well, the simplest approach would be to wear simple loafers or ballet flats for casual events, and classic pumps for anything dressy—but that can get a little boring. If you want to play it safe without giving into tedium, go ahead and wear those widely-accepted styles but choose a unique color, or a pair that is embellished with a chic buckle or another accent. Glitzy evening shoes have no place in the office, and
flip-flops aren’t generally considered acceptable for a formal event. So how do you know which shoes you should wear? Of course they’ll be times when you’ll wear a pair of evening sandals when it’s cold outside, and you might even wear flip-flops long after the official end of summer—but if, for example, you’re wearing Fall clothing, the easiest way to select a pair of complimentary shoes, is to choose shoes that look like Fall shoes. Even less common shoe colors are simple to match to your clothing. If a color is present in your outfit, you can repeat it in your shoes. If the shoe color isn’t in your outfit, you can rely on matching “values” (deep with deep, light with light, etc.), and other color theory rules. Artists use a color wheel to determine how one color will work with another.

Complementary colors (those that are opposite of each other on the color wheel) will create a bold contrast when paired together, while colors that are next to each other will create a more harmonious look. 1 1 .05. 1 7

April showers bring May flowers, but what do May flowers do to your once-essential raincoat? You probably think that they render raincoats useless and force us to toss it to the back of the closet until we may need it again, months later this fall. The raincoat puts us in a rather uncomfortable position: It’s absolutely essential for several small patches of the year, but instantly becomes that thing that reminds you of less sunny days once the weather’s on our side again. The real tragedy is that raincoats have gotten increasingly stylish over the years. Brands like Stutterheim, Stone Island, and Arc’teryx (and, naturally, any conversation about trendy raincoats wouldn’t be complete without Vetements) have figured out how to create a garment that repels water without transforming the wearer into a less cute version of the Paddington Bear once they throw it on. Basically, a raincoat is like having a superpower that you can use only under very specific circumstances. Essentially, you’re Aquaman. And you don’t want to be Aquaman.

con cep t. In the spring of 2012, Adam Galinsky described to the New York Times how dressing as a pimp on Halloween affected his mind. The professor and social psychologist had donned a long coat and fedora, and accessorized with a cane, and as a result, “felt a very different presence,” he told the paper. “When I entered the room, I glided in.” At the time of this interview, Galinsky and a colleague had recently published an article called “Enclothed Cognition” in the Journal of Experimental Social Psychology. And while the article acknowledged the wealth of previous research “document[ing] the effects that people’s clothes have on the perceptions and reactions of others,” Galinsky and his research partner were interested in the effect clothes had on the wearer. “We posit that wearing clothes causes people to ‘embody’ the clothing and its symbolic meaning,” they wrote. The pimp-clothes revelation wasn’t just a hunch; it was now actually supported by research. I learned all of this not long after having my I have no plans to). But a
own clothing epiphany. No, I haven’t dressed as a pimp (and couple years ago, when I was making my way out of a phase of depression, I started to fully appreciate the psychological power of my wardrobe. In this moment of being desperate not to feel worse, and paying close attention to how certain things made me feel, I could sense a pleasant mood-uplift from little sartorial details, like the way the cuff of a sweater aligns with the shirt-cuff and wristwatch underneath, or the feel of a immaculately fitted pair of jeans. For the first time in my 30-plus years, I saw clothing as a kind of magic, whereby simply from wearing a certain combination of garments, I could get a tangible boost of confidence or energy. And, as it turns out, this is not a small detail about our brains—it’s actually fundamental to who we are. You can go all the way back to cave dwellers, says Kit Yarrow, a consumer psychologist and author of the book, Decoding the New Consumer Mind: How and Why We Shop and Buy, and “even back then, people spent time and energy collecting trinkets to wear, thinking about what they might look good in.” One of the founding fathers of psychology, William James, saw clothes as more closely connected to our identity than our families, home, or property. 02 . 14 . 1 9

jeans guide It’s frequently said that aside from buying swimwear, looking for a new pair of jeans is the most stressful shopping experience we have to undergo. With so many different brands, fits, sizes and washes of denim, it’s no wonder that finding the perfect pair can be such a minefield. Add to that the fact that they are probably the item in your wardrobe you’ll wear most – and the pressure is on. So, to help relieve some of your jean-buying stress, we asked a number of denim experts from Levi’s, AG Jeans and M.i.H Jeans to help us navigate through the daunting process. Where do I start? “First of all, relax,” Jonathon Cheung, Levi’s head of design tells us. “Think about it as well-deserved ‘me’ time to discover what looks good on you. Take some time for yourself and have fun – even enjoy the stuff that doesn’t work and just have a giggle. It might sound obvious but try on different sizes and styles – not just the size you think you are, or the style that you’ve always worn. Try a size smaller or bigger to see how you look and bring different shoe styles with you so you see what your jeans look like with both trainers and heels.” Finding a great pair of jeans is wardrobe gold dust, but once you do, it’s easy to slip into a rut and end up wearing the same style
for years. If you’re on the lookout for something new, but have no idea where to start, then the most important thing to do is to go on a search for some inspiration. “Looking for a new style of jean is like getting a new hairstyle or even a new bathroom,” Cheung says. “So do a bit of research. Find a muse.” If you’re after something classic, try looking at the style of denim icons from Jane Birkin to Audrey Hepburn, or find some more modern inspiration from influencers on Instagram or from our A-list guide to denim. What are typically the most flattering jean styles? While the trial-and-error approach is probably best when it comes to finding a new pair of jeans, it’s nice not to go in completely blind otherwise the process can become frustrating very quickly. These are the styles that experts find the most flattering from their collections, although remember of course that every single body is different and there is no hard and fast rule about what suits everyone. I’d like to say that I’m somewhat of a denim expert. I call California home, and jeans are pretty much the uniform around here. Beyond that, I just really love wearing a great pair of jeans, and they end up being part of my outfit at least three or four days each week. And as a fashion editor for Who What Wear, I’m lucky enough to be able to try new jean styles from denim brands pretty regularly. I have a tall stack of jeans in my closet, and I’d estimate that there are at least 30 pairs I’ve tried in the last year alone. As someone who likes to have a streamlined wardrobe, though, I decided to try each and every pair to figure out my favorites. After slipping into each and every style, I was able to narrow my essential everyday jeans down to five key picks. Ahead I’m breaking down the five best-fitting jeans I’ve ever worn—including the pair I always wear to the airport.
