Be safe in the sun
It’s nice to enjoy any sunshine we get, but you should be aware that too much time in the sun is dangerous.
It can damage your skin and lead to skin cancer in later life. It’s important to be sensible in the sun and protect yourself. Remember, you don’t have to be abroad to be exposed to harmful ultra-violet (UV) rays.
Skin cancer and ageing
Too much exposure to the sun will speed up the ageing of your skin, making it leathery and wrinkled. Taking care in the sun will also help to protect you from skin cancer. Use sunscreen
You should apply sunscreen 15 to 30 minutes before going out in the sun and re-apply every couple of hours throughout the day. Remember to re-apply when you have been in the water and never use sunscreen to extend the time you would normally spend in the sun. Wear sunscreen with an sun protection factor of at least 15 that also provides UVA and UVB protection, and re-apply frequently.
