Consumer Council advises planning ahead for Easter travel

Top ten tips for Easter travel:

1

Be flexible when booking. Consider flexible airfares and accommodation with a cancellation option. They may be a bit more expensive but could save you money if you are forced to cancel your trip for personal reasons

2 Get a Global Health Insurance Card (GHIC). If travelling to EU countries, a GHIC card will give access to health care at a reduced cost or sometimes for free

4

Check your passport. If you need to apply for a new passport to travel, check with the passport issuer how long in advance of your travel date you should apply. Always apply well in advance as a delay in issuing passports could mean you will be unable to travel. The length of time you need on your passport’s validity depends on the country you are visiting. Always check the requirements before booking your tickets

3 Pre-book special assistance. If you have a disability or reduced mobility, ensure you get the assistance you need. This needs to be booked at least 48 hours in advance

5

Check public transport timetables. If you are planning to use public transport for any part of your journey it is a good idea to check out timetables which can be different during public holidays

7

6 Check the latest travel updates. Check with your airline/airport or ferry operator for the most up to date travel advice and information and leave plenty of time to allow for unforeseen delays such as traffic jams or queues going through airport security

9

Check airport parking charges. Pre-booking car parking can save you money

8 Know hand luggage allowances and restrictions. These vary between airlines and are often strictly enforced. Check airport security procedures particularly regarding liquids in hand luggage, be mindful that different airports may have different rules

10

Know your rights. It is important to know your consumer rights when it comes to delayed or cancelled flights or sailings. You may be entitled to a refund and compensation. Full details are available at https://bit ly/consumerrightsandtravel and copies of the Plane Facts and Plain Sailing guides are available for download or order

Check for roaming charges. If travelling to EU countries, check with your mobile phone provider if you will experience roaming charges. You can limit any roaming charges by turning off your mobile data roaming and using Wi-Fi where possible. https://bit ly/mobileroaming24

Autism NI CEO, Kerry Boyd and DUP MLA Cheryl Brownlee supporting Autism NI’s ‘Be Kind to Different Minds’ campaign for World Autism Day, 2nd April 2025.
DUP MLA Cheryl Brownlee with her son, Lyle, together at Stormont buildings.

Autism NI encourages everyone to ‘Be Kind to Different Minds’ this World Autism Day

Autism NI is celebrated World Autism Day and is calling for everyone to get behind their important message, ‘Be Kind to Different Minds’ With over 35,000 autistic people in Northern Ireland, the local charity is encouraging everyone to get involved and show their support for our vibrant autistic community

DUP MLA Cheryl Brownlee comments, “As a mum to a four-year-old boy with autism, supporting ‘Be Kind to Different Minds’ is deeply personal, and it is a reminder that autism isn’t something to be “fixed”, it’s something to be valued It’s about making sure my son grows up in a society that sees his strengths, not just his struggles

When we educate others, advocate for inclusivity, and encourage kindness, we make the world a better place not just for autistic children, but for every child I support this because I want my son to grow up in a world where he is safe, supported, and celebrated for exactly who he is, and I hope others will join me in that ”

Autism NI’s CEO, Kerry Boyd, adds, “This World Autism Day I would like to see the wider public support our message ‘Be Kind to Different Minds’ We want to raise more awareness and a better understanding of autism, promote autism acceptance, and build inclusivity and connectedness throughout our society But we can't do it alone

We are often told to 'be kind' but what does it really mean? And do people ever really follow through with supporting actions? For our autistic people it will make a huge difference if society shows a willingness to understand and support people that may think and see the world in a different way to them This campaign is about being part of a movement and inclusive culture that will support all of society to thrive and succeed

So, whether you're at home, at school, or at work you can join us and help build inclusion and acceptance We have activities and campaigns running throughout the whole month of April, so there is something for everyone to get involved with”

Autism NI provides vital services for autistic people and their families throughout Northern Ireland, and campaigns for autism understanding and acceptance within society

4.4 MILLION MEALS DONATED TO GOOD CAUSES IN NORTHERN IRELAND

M&S Food has donated 4 4 million meals in surplus food to good causes across Northern Ireland.

M&S Food’s partnership with Neighbourly has supported more than 4.7 million people through more than 3,000 local charities and community organisations across the UK.

Marks & Spencer colleagues work closely with Neighbourly charity partners to redistribute surplus food from store to support the community, including families in need, young people and those with disabilities. In Northern Ireland alone, stores have donated 4 4 million meals since 2015, which equates to more than 1,800 tonnes of food - to local good causes and community initiatives.

Around 98% of M&S stores support a local good cause each week, with many stores partnering with at least two charities or community organisations. In Northern Ireland, charities including L'Arche Belfast - Root Soup, Team HAVEN (Homelessness and Vulnerability Ends Now), East Belfast Mission, Lifereach Ni, MACS Supporting Children, and Young People and Hosford, have received surplus food donations, ensuring that good food reaches those who need it most Thanks to the support of hardworking store colleagues, volunteers, and local charity partners across the UK, M&S has donated over 100 million meals through its partnership with food redistribution partner Neighbourly, since launching in 2015

The partnership with Neighbourly has prevented over 49,000 tonnes of good quality food from going to waste. This contributes to M&S’ target of 100% of edible surplus food to be redistributed by 2025/26, as part of its ‘Plan A’ roadmap to net zero, and is contributing to M&S reaching its target of reducing food waste by 50% by 2030

This year, with many people across the UK needing to rely on food charities to access good quality food, M&S Food’s partnership with Neighbourly has seen over 30 million meals donated across the UK – the highest ever in the decadelong partnership. The partnership has supported more than 4 7 million people through more than 3,000 local charities and community organisations across the UKs since the start of the partnership in 2015 In the next phase of M&S’ partnership with Neighbourly, the retailer is trialling a new surplus food initiative which allows individual collectors to pick up donations to redistribute within the community. The initiative, which specifically supports stores that don’t have a regular charity partner to donate to, is set to significantly increase the amount of fresh surplus food reaching those who need it most. The new programme is currently rolling out to an additional 50 stores across the UK and has already enabled M&S colleagues to redistribute the equivalent of over 30,000 meals.

Lucinda Langton, Head of Sustainability at M&S Food, said: “Since launching our partnership with Neighbourly in 2015, we’ve redistributed the equivalent of 100 million delicious meals for people and communities in need across the UK from surplus food from our stores. This initiative not only helps tackle food waste and supports us in reaching our Plan A goals, but also makes a real difference to those who need it most. None of this would be possible without the dedication of our incredible store colleagues, whose commitment and passion has already helped over 4 7 million people and will continue to provide even more support with the expansion of the individual collector programme.”

PCSP Guidelines for E-Scooter Use and the Law in our District

Newry, Mourne, and Down Policing and Community Safety Partnership (PCSP) is issuing a reminder to residents and visitors regarding the current legalities surrounding the use of electric scooters (E-scooters) in our district

As the popularity of electric scooters continues to rise due to their convenience, it is important for users to be aware of the restrictions in place. While E-scooters are available for purchase, it is crucial to understand that they are currently illegal to use on public roads, pavements, or in public spaces across the district

Under current legislation, E-scooters are not recognised as a form of transport and are not approved for on-road use This means that riding an E-scooter in public areas, including pavements, parks, or other public spaces, is against the law

E-scooters are treated as motor vehicles but do not generally meet the necessary construction and safety standards required for use on the road. As such, they are restricted to off-road use only and can only be used legally on private property, with the permission of the landowner

Newry, Mourne and Down PCSP strongly encourages parents and young people to familiarise themselves with these legal requirements before purchasing or using an E-scooter. The use of these vehicles, if not properly regulated, poses significant risks to the rider and to members of the public, particularly due to the high speeds and lack of safety features commonly associated with these devices

Newry, Mourne and Down PCSP Chair Cllr Terry Andrews said, “The safety of our residents and visitors across Newry, Mourne and Down remains a top priority for our PCSP, and we urge all those considering using E-scooters to take these important legal points into consideration”

NI Water’s Travelling Classroom Rolls into Victoria Primary School

Everyone’s favourite travelling classroom, the infamous Waterbus, recently paid a visit to Victoria Primary School

2

During the visit, the children were introduced to H 0, a water drop figure and mascot for the programme to help them learn about water and to understand the importance of water conservation. The children also learnt what can and can’t be put down the toilet through a ‘bag it and bin it’ activity, what NI Water does to clean the water and how sewage is treated.

NI Water’s Outreach and Learning Officer, Anna Killen, said:

“We simply cannot exist without water, something that is easy to forget when we have constant access to running taps and flushing toilets. To provide a sense of scale, NI Water provides 605 million litres of fresh drinking water and takes away 373 million litres of wastewater every day. We manage over 40,000 kilometres of water mains and sewers - one and half times longer than Northern Ireland’s entire road network

‘‘It is therefore important we educate young people in the vital role water plays in our lives; the Waterbus is a fun and interactive way to do this.

“The Waterbus is very popular with schools and has an extensive waiting list for visits! We are delighted with the reputation it has come to enjoy as this goes to prove that the work we do on the bus is delivering what matters to today’s pupils and our future generation of water users”

The programme is aimed at Key Stage 2 and designed to complement a key element of the Northern Ireland Primary Curriculum - the ‘World Around Us’

A teachers’ learning pack, with further classroom activities is available to download from www.niwatercom/education

PedalThePeriphery was borne after Andrea’s husband and father to her two sons, Paddy Harrower, urged his family to do something positive to remember him and to come from his diagnosis of terminal pancreatic cancer in 2022 Just 14 weeks after diagnosis, Paddy passed away Cathy also lost one of her closest schoolfriends of 30 years, Natalie Wilson, to the disease in 2017

the finish line Meanwhile, retailers along the route will have donation buckets for shoppers to give any spare change Staff will also be cheering the cyclists on and showing their support by taking on their own in-store cycling challenges, all in aid of NIPANC Shoppers throughout 460 SPAR, EUROSPAR and ViVO branded stores will also have the opportunity to contribute, with special QR codes displayed on Barista Bar machines, making it easy to donate and learn more about PedalThePeriphery

The event coincides with the 10th anniversary of Barista Bar, which has been brewing top quality coffee since 2015, a milestone the brand is marking by supporting a cause that makes a real difference

Andrea Harrower, co-founder of PedalThePeriphery, commented; "In so many ways, the allegiance with Barista feels so rightprofessionally and personally I am so delighted that the team behind Barista Bar feels so strongly aligned to our vision We are both strong homegrown brands with an innate sense of community and a passion for quality service for people in Northern Ireland “Barista Bar’s enthusiasm and passion will no doubt take NIPANC’s Pedal The Periphery to a whole new level again, beginning in 2025 and evolving to help us reach the magical million Aside from fundraising, to advance research and treatment and provide critical support services to patients and families, the awareness raising boost that Barista Bar gives this event means countless lives will be saved from this silent killer in future years"

KILLARD HOUSE SCHOOL IS ‘BLOOMING

To mark National Garden Day, Killard House School, Donaghadee, has officially opened its new outdoor classroom and sensory area - a transformative initiative funded by Belfast City Airport’s Community Fund

Designed to promote well-being, enhance learning, and inspire creativity, the space is already making a significant impact within the school community, providing a calming environment that brings students and teachers together in a space that nurtures growth, confidence, and connection

Rebecca Lowry, teacher at Killard House School, commented:

“Our new outdoor classroom gives students a safe space where they can regulate their emotions and engage in hands-on learning experiences

“At Killard House, we support young people with complex needs, and the sensory elements within our new garden will be a valuable tool in helping with a wide range of educational requirements

“The project is not only giving students a chance to learn about nature and the environment but is also helping to develop important life skills such as teamwork, problem-solving, and creativity - skills that will support them well into adulthood.

“This would not have been possible without the generous support of Belfast City Airport and its Community Fund”

Killard House School provides specialist education for around 220 pupils aged 4-19 and is dedicated to creating a nurturing, inclusive environment where every child has the opportunity to thrive

This vision is strongly aligned with Belfast City Airport’s longstanding commitment to giving back to the local community, to which it has contributed over £656,000 to 231 projects across Northern Ireland

Anna McKelvey, Community Fund Ambassador at Belfast City Airport, said:

“It’s incredibly rewarding to see how a simple outdoor environment can spark joy, support emotional well-being, and open up new ways of learning

That’s the true value of projects such as this, creating meaningful experiences that will stay with these young people for years to come”

Tesco to provide donation bags in stores this Easter helping families over school holidays

Tesco customers can pick up an extra bag to put through the checkout this Easter to support families facing financial difficulties during the school holidays

The popular donation bags pre-packed with healthy long life food items will be available in every large Tesco store across Northern Ireland over the Easter break (April 7th to 20th) to make donating the most-needed items easier

Claire De Silva, Head of Communities at Tesco, said: “With the lack of free school meal provision during the holidays we know that families find it difficult to make ends meet and give their kids nutritious meals

“Our pre-packed donation bags will give a much needed top up to FareShare and Trussell and make a difference to the lives of thousands of children and their families.”

The Easter Holiday Helps initiative is part of Tesco’s year-round support for schoolchildren as part of Tesco’s Stronger Starts campaign This includes the Fruit and Veg for Schools programme which helps over 400 schools with the highest rates of free school meals by offering grants for purchasing fruit and vegetables from Tesco stores The scheme helps children to get healthier snack choices and lunch options while they’re at school.

Trussell’s food banks support families year-round – with nearly two-thirds of all their support last year provided to families with children In 2024, they distributed more than 3 1 million emergency food parcels to people facing hardship – this is an increase of 94% over the past five years. More than 1.1 million of these parcels were for children

FareShare is the UK’s largest food redistribution charity, providing good-to-eat surplus food to a wide range of charities and community groups across the UK –three quarters of which support families with children. FareShare’s most recent impact report shows that the food they supply helps children get access to nutritious meals, and two in three parents said their children’s performance in school improved as a result

Tesco continues to support FareShare and other community groups year-round by redistributing unsold food from all its stores as part of its Community Food Connection programme, which to date has provided more than 220 million meals Customers can also donate the value of their Clubcard vouchers to either FareShare or Trussell online

Ards and North Down Borough Council’s Trail of the Easter Bunny hopped into action earlier this week with visits to Portaferry, Bangor and Killinchy. It marked the beginning of a series of Easter Bunny Trails that are also scheduled to visit Newtownards, Holywood and Donaghadee

The Mayor of Ards and North Down, Councillor Alistair Cathcart, visited the Trail in Bangor on Monday and took the opportunity to solve puzzles and play games along the way. He said:

“More than 600 children joined the trail in Bangor on Monday, solving the puzzles to win a packet of sweets. It was great to see so many people in Ward Park and the new play park was proving to be very popular in the afternoon sunshine”

The Trail is moving throughout the Borough during the Easter break. The final three trails will be hosted at Londonderry Park, Newtownards (Wednesday 16 April), Seapark in Holywood (Wednesday 23 April) and The Commons in Donaghadee (Thursday 24 April).

They are free to attend and are open from 11am to 3pm. Children that successfully solve the puzzles will receive a free packet of sweets.

Hop into Safety this Easter: Top tips from NIFRS

Easter is a time for family fun and egg hunts, but it’s also important to stay vigilant and keep fire safety top of your mind during the celebrations. Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service (NIFRS) Group Commander Paul Morrow shares some egg-cellent tips to ensure you and your loved ones have a safe and enjoyable Easter.

Baking scrumptious treats

Easter is a time for delicious treats, but it’s important to stay safe in the kitchen. Never leave cooking unattended. If you need to leave the kitchen while cooking – even for just a few seconds – take pans off the heat or turn them off completely Be mindful of hot surfaces; keep flammable items such as oven mitts, tea towels and cables away from the cooker top.

Relaxing in the countryside

If you’re enjoying the countryside over the Easter break, please be cautious of activities that could lead to wildfires ·Only use barbeques in a suitable and clear area and ensure they are fully extinguished and cold before disposing of their contents.

·Dispose of cigarette butts properly and never throw cigarette ends on the ground, especially in dry areas. ·Don’t leave bottles or glass in woodland or grassland –sunlight shining through glass can start fires. Instead, take them home or dispose of them in a waste or recycling bin. Remember if you see fire in the countryside, call 999 immediately

Weekend Getaway

If you are planning a trip or a caravan getaway this Easter, ensure your time is both enjoyable and fire safe after all, you don’t want to put all your eggs in one basket when it comes to safety! Remember to switch off and unplug electrical appliances and devices before heading away

Park your caravan at least 6 metres apart and ensure they have working smoke alarms. Make sure you know your emergency exits and plan how to evacuate if you discover a fire or a fire alarm were to sound.

During the school break, you can fill in this fun Easter activity safety sheet from NIFRS to earn your safety pledge

From all of us at NIFRS, have a fun, safe and happy Easter!

World Immunisation Week vaccination saves lives

World Immunisation Week (24-30 April) is an opportunity for the Public Health Agency (PHA) to highlight the important role that vaccinations play in protecting society today, and that without them we would face a return to the days when diseases posed a real threat to human health

Geraldine Mallon, Immunisation Programme Manager at the PHA, said: “Getting vaccinated is the single most important thing we can do to protect our health Vaccination starts before birth with pregnant women being offered vaccines to protect them and their unborn babies and continues after the baby is born though their pre-school years, teenage years and then as an older adult ” Immunisation is the safest and most effective way of protecting against serious diseases Many childhood diseases that were common in the UK prior to the introduction of vaccination have been dramatically reduced or have disappeared altogether However, we have seen a small reduction in the uptake of vaccination in recent years and as a result we are now seeing a return of diseases such as measles and whooping cough which have both experienced a resurgence in recent years

Geraldine continued: “The PHA strongly recommends that babies and children are vaccinated according to the Routine Childhood Immunisations Schedule It is important vaccination coverage is

improved as soon as possible to help prevent the spread of avoidable serious and sometimes deadly diseases such as measles and polio

“If you are unsure if your child is up to date with vaccinations the easiest way to check is to look at your child’s red book or speak to your health visitor or GP If your child has missed a vaccination, please contact your GP practice to book an appointment as soon as you can to make sure they have maximum protection against disease”

It is only when people continue to get their children and themselves vaccinated in large numbers that we can prevent these diseases, and the possible deaths, so it is vitally important that we don’t take our health and that of our children for granted Not only that, but getting children vaccinated also helps protect those who aren’t yet eligible for vaccination, such as tiny babies

After clean water, vaccination is the most effective public health intervention in the world for saving lives and promoting good health, and therefore one of the most important things that any parent can do is get their child vaccinated and encourage them to continue this throughout their own lifetime

Olympic Heroes Deliver Mental Health Programme to Schools

7 County Antrim based schools secure a place on Lidl Northern Ireland’s ‘Sport for Good’ Mental Health Athlete Mentorship programme in partnership with the Youth Sport Trust

Lidl Northern Ireland recently revealed 7 post primary schools across County Antrim were amongst a list of 28 post primary schools to successfully secure a place on the retailer’s award-winning Sport for Good programme for the 2024/2025 academic year

The County Antrim based schools include Ashfield Boys High School, Belfast Boys Model School, Blessed Trinity College (Little Flower Girls School), De la Salle College, Dominican College, Parkhall Integrated College and Parkview Special School.

Established in 2019, Lidl Northern Ireland’s Sport for Good campaign has supported almost 200 sports clubs and schools across Northern Ireland to date and provided around £400,000 in funding to encourage more young people into sport.

More than 1,100 pupils across the region are set to benefit from this year’s programme, which will see Northern Ireland’s sporting elite deliver a series of dedicated mental health workshops designed to enable young people to better manage stress, build resilience and self-esteem and view sport and movement as tools for looking after their mental wellbeing.

The team of specially selected Sport for Good mentors who have been trained to deliver the workshops include Olympic hockey hero Eugene Magee, four-time Paralympic athletics champion Michael McKillop MBE, Olympic steeplechase runner Kerry O’Flaherty and Commonwealth athlete Ciaran Chambers.

Developed in partnership with the Youth Sport Trust, the UK’s leading charity dedicated to improving young people’s education and development through sport and play, Lidl Northern Ireland’s Sport for Good programme will see the athletes visit the 28 successful schools throughout the year, with each school also receiving £1,000 worth of brand-new sports equipment

Commenting on the Sport for Good workshops and their impact on young people, mentor Kerry O’Flaherty said:

“I am proud to work with Lidl Northern Ireland and the Youth Sport Trust again this year as a mentor for the Sport for Good programme which has made a real difference to students across Northern Ireland. These workshops help young people understand how to maintain their physical and mental health, while also demonstrating to them how participating in sport and exercise can build their confidence, self-esteem, and resilience.

I'm looking forward to visiting schools across Northern Ireland and meeting students participating in this year's programme. It's always hugely rewarding to witness a shift in their mindset, and to hear from teachers about the concrete benefits they and their students gain from the programme."

Lidl Northern Ireland’s Sport for Good Mental Health Athlete Mentorship was developed after research revealed that the wellbeing of children in Northern Ireland is at its lowest level since 2010, and 45.2% of 16-year-olds have a probable mental illness.* For more information, please visit lidl-ni.co.uk/lidl-community-works

Belfast woman is spreading heart health awareness after family tragedy

Orlagh Morris, from Ballymurphy, West Belfast is determined to encourage people to be aware of their heart health and learn vital lifesaving skills so she can help prevent other families going through the same tragedy she has The 34-year-old ophthalmic technician lost her father, Gerard Morris, to a cardiac arrest caused by a massive heart attack, in tragic circumstances one Saturday morning last November

Orlagh said: “Daddy had gone to Kennedy Way recycling centre with my mum to drop some things off as we had a leak in our house the night before and some things got destroyed Once they placed the items in the recycling containers, my daddy turned to my mummy and said, “let’s get home to make the Saturday fry”. Moments later my mummy noticed that his hands were no longer on the steering wheel

“He had a cardiac arrest at the wheel, his foot went down on the accelerator and the car crashed into one of the containers. My mum managed to get out of the car and was screaming, and then one of the workers at the recycling centre, Pearse, took action really quickly, pulling my dad out of the car and starting CPR.”

The emergency services were called and Orlagh made her way there immediately By the time Orlagh arrived, the paramedics had taken over from Pearse and were working on Gerard but tragically, his life couldn’t be saved

The paramedics and other workers commended Pearse, the employee who did CPR immediately, although he told Orlagh he wished he could have done more

Orlagh said: “We’re so grateful for what Pearse did and it shows the importance of teaching workplaces and communities lifesaving skills I’ve learnt first aid at work and how to use a defibrillator and perform CPR and I want to encourage as many people as possible to do the same “Even though my daddy didn’t survive, everything was done by Pearse and the paramedics to try to bring him back and that gives our family some comfort ”

Orlagh’s family has a very strong history of heart conditions on both sides and in the past four years as well as her dad, she’s sadly lost her uncle and an aunt, all to heart attacks A number of her aunts and uncles have also suffered from heart conditions and events such as dilated cardiomyopathy, abdominal aortic aneurysms, leaking heart valve and heart failure She also has a family history of high blood pressure and her dad had his blood pressure checked regularly

Orlagh said: “It has really brought home how aware we need to be of our heart health and even in my 30s, making sure I’m looking after myself After what happened to my dad and considering our family history, I got checked out and my blood pressure was high, but I’ve managed to get it under control now”

Orlagh and her family miss Gerard, who was, “a quiet man with a heart of gold, a real family man”, deeply but Orlagh is determined to do something positive to help others, in honour of her “wonderful” dad and recently completed the SPAR Craic 10k road race on St Patrick’s Day in Belfast to raise funds for the British Heart Foundation (BHF)

Orlagh said: “It was daddy’s 70th birthday at the start of March and also would have been my mummy and his 51 wedding anniversary so we’ve had a lot of big occasions to deal with in the last few months along with Christmas and the new year st

“My mummy is still traumatised, her heart is broken and she just can’t believe he isn’t here anymore I asked my mummy what she wanted for Mother’s Day and she said, “your daddy back” They shared everything together

“I’m not a runner but a few girls I go to the gym with had signed up and encouraged me to do the 10k so I thought it would be a positive thing to do in daddy’s memory It gave me a goal to raise money for a charity like BHF which is deeply connected with not only educating people on awareness of symptoms and learning CPR, but also lifesaving research into finding cures and improving treatments for heart disease”

Orlagh has already raised over £1,200 for the BHF

She said: “People’s kindness has been amazing, its blown me away This has given me something to focus on and has really helped me cope through my grief My daddy was so kind and helpful and he would go out of his way to help anybody so I’m doing this in his memory to give something back I know he was watching down on me that day and I can see him with a big smile on his face proud of me”

Healthy Eating: A Key to a Balanced Life

Healthy eating is more than just about choosing the right foods; it’s about making sustainable, mindful choices that nourish both the body and the mind. A balanced diet, rich in nutrients, helps maintain energy levels, support growth and development, and prevent chronic diseases. Here are the essential components of healthy eating:

Variety is Essential

2. Fruits and Vegetables 3.

A healthy diet includes a wide range of foods from all the food groups: fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins, and healthy fats. Each food group offers different nutrients, and variety ensures that your body gets the vitamins, minerals, and fiber it needs to function optimally.

4. Whole Grains Over Refined 5.

These should make up a large portion of your daily intake. They are packed with essential vitamins, antioxidants, and fiber. Aim for a colorful variety, as different colors often indicate different nutrients. A simple goal of "half your plate" being fruits and vegetables is a good start.

6. Healthy Fats and Proteins

Whole grains like brown rice, quinoa, and whole-wheat products are rich in fiber and help keep the digestive system healthy. They also provide more nutrients than refined grains, which are often stripped of their fiber and essential nutrients during processing.

7.

8. Portion Control

Healthy fats, found in foods like avocados, nuts, seeds, and olive oil, are important for brain health and hormone regulation. Lean proteins such as chicken, fish, and plant-based sources like beans and tofu help build and repair body tissues.

Healthy eating isn’t just about what you eat but also how much. Eating in moderation helps control calorie intake and maintain a healthy weight.

Water is crucial for overall health, aiding digestion, circulation, and temperature regulation. Aim for at least 8 glasses a day to stay hydrated.

Incorporating these simple habits into your daily life can improve not only your physical health but also your mood, mental clarity, and overall well-being. Healthy eating is a lifestyle, not a temporary fix!

Staying Active for Your Health: Why It Matters

In today’s fast-paced world, it’s easy to overlook the importance of staying active. However, regular physical activity is essential for maintaining both physical and mental health Whether it's through structured exercise or everyday activities, moving your body offers a wide range of benefits that can improve your quality of life

First and foremost, staying active helps maintain a healthy weight Regular exercise burns calories, boosts metabolism, and promotes lean muscle mass, making it easier to manage weight and reduce the risk of obesity This is particularly important as excess weight is linked to a number of chronic conditions, including heart disease, diabetes, and certain types of cancer

Beyond weight management, physical activity also supports cardiovascular health Activities like walking, cycling, and swimming help strengthen the heart, improve circulation, and lower blood pressure This contributes to a reduced risk of stroke and heart attack

Exercise is also a powerful tool for mental health It boosts the production of endorphins, the brain's "feel-good" chemicals, which can reduce feelings of stress, anxiety, and depression Regular movement also enhances sleep quality and cognitive function, improving focus and productivity throughout the day

Incorporating physical activity into your routine doesn’t require hours at the gym Simple changes, like walking or cycling to work, taking the stairs, or engaging in sports or hobbies you enjoy, can make a significant difference

The key is consistency

Ultimately, staying active is one of the best investments you can make in your health It doesn’t have to be complicated or intense what matters most is finding ways to move regularly and make it a part of your daily life

Your body and mind will thank you for it!

Outdoor Activities for Kids Over Easter

Easter is the perfect time to get kids outside and enjoy the fresh spring air. With the long weekend and warmer weather, there’s no shortage of fun outdoor activities that will keep them entertained and active. Whether you’re in the countryside, at the beach, or in your own backyard, here are some exciting outdoor activities for kids over Easter

1 Easter Egg Hunt

One of the most classic and beloved Easter traditions, the Easter egg hunt is a fantastic outdoor activity. You can hide plastic eggs filled with treats or small toys around your garden or park and have the kids search for them To make it more challenging, create clues or riddles that lead them to their next egg. The hunt promotes physical activity as they run, search, and explore, and it’s a great way for families to bond outdoors

2. Nature Walks and Scavenger Hunts

A nature walk is a relaxing yet educational activity. Take the kids to a local park, forest, or nature reserve and explore the outdoors together While walking, encourage them to observe their surroundings. To add a fun twist, create a scavenger hunt list with things to look for, like certain flowers, animals, or tree types. This will help kids connect with nature while also getting some exercise.

3 Picnics in the Park

Pack a basket full of Easter treats and head to your local park for a family picnic. After hunting eggs or playing games, a picnic gives kids time to relax and refuel You can bring a frisbee, a ball, or even a kite for extra outdoor fun If the weather permits, it’s a wonderful way to spend the afternoon with good food, family, and nature

4. Sports and Games

Introduce the kids to a variety of outdoor sports like soccer, frisbee, or relay races You can organize a mini sports day with different events or simply play casual games These activities promote teamwork, coordination, and physical fitness, all while being fun and engaging

5. Biking Adventures

If your kids are old enough, Easter weekend is a great time to go on a family bike ride. Whether it’s through your neighborhood, around a local park, or along a nature trail, biking is a great way to explore the outdoors and stay active You can even plan a route that includes stopping at different places, like a playground or ice cream shop

6 DIY Obstacle Course

Create a fun and challenging obstacle course in your backyard using items like ropes, cones, and inflatable pools. Kids will love navigating through the course, and it’s an excellent way to improve their agility, balance, and problem-solving skills. You can even make it a friendly competition with small prizes for everyone!

With these outdoor activities, Easter becomes a great opportunity for kids to explore, get active, and enjoy the beauty of spring. Whether you’re doing something traditional or trying out a new adventure, there’s no shortage of fun to be had.
