ABOUT THE 251st ECS MEETING – HONORING THE PAST The 251st ECS Meeting launches the Society’s year-long celebration of its 125th anniversary, bringing the global ECS community to Washington, DC, US, May 30–June 3, 2027. As the first gathering of this milestone year, the meeting reflects on the discoveries, people, and partnerships that have shaped The Electrochemical Society since 1902 while recognizing the enduring legacy that continues to advance electrochemical and solid state science. Featuring world-class presentations, panels, poster sessions, and exhibits, the 251st ECS Meeting is set to honor the foundations of scientific excellence and the community that has driven 125 years of collaboration, innovation, and impact. Great Discoveries.

Lasting Legacies.

ABSTRACT SUBMISSION To be considered for an oral or poster presentation, submit an original abstract via the website no later than December 4, 2026. Faxed, emailed, and/or late abstracts are not accepted. In the abstract, explicitly state the work’s objectives, new results, and conclusions or significance.

Symposium organizers evaluate abstracts for content and relevance to the symposium topic, then schedule accepted submissions as either oral or poster presentations.

ACCEPTANCE LETTERS In February 2027, accepted abstracts’ presenting authors receive emailed Acceptance Letters with the date, time, and location of their presentations. Symposium organizers determine how/when posters and oral presentations are scheduled, regardless of presenters’ requests. These letters do not imply any financial responsibility on the part of ECS. If an official Letter of Invitation is required, email abstracts@electrochem.org.

ORAL AND POSTER PRESENTATIONS Oral and poster presentations must be in English.

Oral presentations • LCD projectors and laptops are provided in each session room.

• Presenters MUST bring their presentations on USB flash drives for use on the session room’s laptop.

• Requests for additional equipment must be emailed to meetings@ electrochem.org at least one month before the meeting for appropriate arrangements to be made, subject to availability, at the author’s expense.

Poster presentations • Print posters in A0 format (84.1cm x 118.9cm or 33.1in x 46.8in).

• Label posters with the abstract number and day of presentation as shown in the Online Program.

BIANNUAL MEETING TRAVEL GRANTS Some ECS divisions and sections offer biannual meeting travel grants to support students, postdoctoral researchers, and young professionals attending ECS biannual meetings. This symposium highlights advances in materials, components, and system designs that address key challenges in energy technologies, including but not limited to electrochemical energy technologies. Emphasis is placed on innovations in critical materials and minerals that enable efficient energy conversion, storage, and transmission across technologies such as batteries, fuel cells, electrolyzers, capacitors, and photoelectrochemical systems.

Submissions exploring new approaches to modeling, characterization, performance evaluation, and safety assessment are especially encouraged.

This special symposium is dedicated to students working on energy storage and energy conversion. The Student Slam offers students an opportunity to present flash oral presentations of their work in a 10-minute time slot.

All students enrolled at any valid degree-granting institution may submit an abstract describing their presentation. Of particular interest are new materials and designs, performance studies, and modeling of all types of batteries, supercapacitors, and fuel cells, including aqueous, nonaqueous, polymer electrolytes, solid electrolytes, and flow systems.

Interplay between Temperature and Battery

The purpose of this symposium is to bring together researchers investigating interactions between temperature and battery behavior at a range of length scales, time scales, and severity. Batteries generate heat during charge and discharge, requiring the need for thermal management or heat rejection. However, the complex and stochastic electrochemical phenomenon of batteries demands fundamental understanding, instrumentation, and multiphysics modeling for informed thermal management design. Further, growing interest in extreme conditions, like low-temperature environments or fast charging, exacerbate self-heating behaviors, drawing attention to local and global temperature variations.

Past, Present, and Future of Beyond Lithium-Ion

This symposium is dedicated to the memory of our colleague and friend, Bruno Scrosati, whose passion, insight, and scientific rigor left an enduring impact on the field of electrochemical energy storage. Bruno was not only a visionary in battery research, but also a tireless advocate for innovation who challenged conventional thinking and inspired a generation of scientists. His contributions to The Electrochemical Society and to the advancement of post-lithium energy storage systems continue to shape the direction of the field.

This symposium traces the historical development of rechargeable batteries, beginning with early electrochemical cells, through the rise and dominance of lithium-ion technology, and into the emerging era of next-generation systems often grouped under the umbrella of “beyond lithium-ion batteries.” While lithium-ion batteries have revolutionized portable electronics and electric mobility, their inherent limitations in energy density, thermal stability, raw material availability, and end-of-life sustainability have sparked a critical need for alternative chemistries.

We will explore in detail the present state and future promise of systems such as lithium-sulfur, lithium-air, sodium-ion, magnesium and multivalent-ion batteries, solid-state batteries, and redox flow systems.

Particular emphasis will be placed on the underlying electrochemical mechanisms, materials challenges, interfacial phenomena, and scalable manufacturing considerations. Bruno had a special interest in solid-state and sulfur-based chemistries, and the symposium will highlight some of his key contributions to these areas, as well as the ongoing work that builds upon his legacy.

The symposium also reflects on the broader challenges facing the transition to sustainable and secure energy storage, including supply chain resilience, lifecycle assessment, and integration into future energy infrastructures. In doing so, we hope to capture not only the scientific roadmap, but also the spirit of collaboration, curiosity, and persistence that Bruno brought to every endeavor.

By revisiting the past, assessing the present, and looking toward the future, this symposium aims to honor Bruno’s memory with a forward-looking vision—one that continues to push the boundaries of electrochemistry in pursuit of cleaner, safer, and more efficient energy storage technologies.

Advanced Materials for Fast Charging and A05 High-Power Energy Systems Battery Division The growing demand for fast-charging and high-power energy systems, driven by the rise of electric vehicles, drones, eVTOLs, and portable electronics, calls for innovations in materials science. This symposium explores cutting-edge advances in materials design, synthesis, and characterization to enable next-generation batteries with rapid ion transport, high-energy/power densities, and stable cycling. We invite contributions on novel electrolytes, interfacial engineering, electrode architectures, and scalable manufacturing methods addressing challenges in electrochemical stability, thermal management, and charge performance. The symposium aims to foster interdisciplinary dialogue among researchers, scientists, and engineers from academia, industry, and government institutions.

Attendees are encouraged to present experimental results, theoretical insights, and computational modeling studies highlighting breakthroughs in advanced materials and their integration within high-performance energy systems.

Electrolyte & Interphase Engineering in Li/Na A06 Batteries Battery Division; Energy Technology Division High-energy-density rechargeable lithium- and sodium-ion batteries have garnered significant attention in response to the growing demand for portable electronics, electric vehicles, and large-scale grid storage systems. Despite their potential, these battery technologies face persistent challenges including limited cycle life, sluggish ion diffusion kinetics, structural instability, safety concerns, and high production costs. To address these issues, researchers are developing advanced materials, innovative battery architectures, and improved manufacturing processes.

Among the critical factors influencing battery performance is the electrolyte–electrode interphase (EEI), which plays a pivotal role in determining cycle life, ion transport kinetics (especially relevant to fast charging), and overall safety. In recent years, substantial progress has been made in rational interphase design and electrolyte solvation engineering to mitigate interfacial degradation and improve long-term stability. Additionally, integrated strategies—such as surface engineering of electrodes and electrolyte formulation—have shown promise in enhancing interfacial compatibility and full-cell performance.

This symposium aims to provide a collaborative platform for researchers and industry professionals to share recent advancements in interfacial science and spark new ideas in electrolyte and interphase engineering. Topics of interest include but are not limited to: • Development of novel electrolytes and functional additives; • Interface/interphase formation and modification strategies; • Advanced characterization techniques of interfacial processes; • Theoretical modeling and mechanistic studies of interphases; • Electrolyte-electrode compatibility in full-cell configurations.

This symposium focuses on the translation of materials into manufacturable electrodes and cells, with emphasis on scalable synthesis routes, process–structure–property control, slurry and coating rheology, drying and densification strategies, interface quality and stability, and inline metrology, data analytics, and quality assurance. We are interested in all battery materials and cell chemistries including active and inactive components across different battery chemistries. We particularly encourage pilot line case studies that reveal what survived scale-up and what did not, including lessons on cost models, variability control, reliability testing, and circularity and reuse. Contributions on digital twins, ML-assisted process optimization, and standards and benchmarking that enable reproducible outcomes are welcome. Contributions from other steps of the supply chain are also welcomed, for example, raw materials processing.

Performance Benchmarking of Solid State

A08 Batteries: From Materials, Interfaces to Cell Design Battery Division

The amount of research focusing on materials and cell design for solidstate batteries (SSB) is exponentially increasing. This proliferation is due to the theoretical gain in specific energy, energy density, energy efficiency, and safety. Even after a decade of intense research into many materials for solid ionic conduction, metal anode development, and cathode processing, a uniform agreement on the best material and interfacial design to scale up SSB is still lacking. One reason is that each material requires particular processing and device assembly strategies for testing, which make direct comparisons between literature results and nontrivial research groups.

Running in parallel is the wide range of critical properties that control the ionic/electronic transport that occur across multiple length scales governed by multi-physics (electro-chemo-mechanics) variables. Therefore, there is a great need for efforts to develop and demonstrate practical testing procedures that will catalyze novel, well-informed hypothesis generation/ testing and realization of commercial high-energy-dense SSBs. This symposium focuses on efforts to design and implement benchmarking protocols in the synthesis and processing of materials into SSB. It covers the latest progress in: (1) materials characterization; (2) battery cycling performance; and (3) dendrite suppression.

Advanced semiconductor products that are true representatives of nanoelectronics have reached below 12 nm. Depending on the application, a nanosystem may consist of one or more of the following types of functional components: electronic, optical, magnetic, mechanical, biological, chemical, energy sources, and various types of sensing devices. As long as one or more of these functional devices is in 1–100 nm dimensions, the resultant system can be defined as a nanosystem.

Papers are solicited in all areas of nanoscale dielectrics including:

1) Gate dielectric materials for Si, SiC, SiGe, Ge, ferroelectric,

neuromorphic and III‐V semiconductor devices; 2) Dielectric materials for devices based on nanowires, nanotubes, and graphene; 3) 2D semiconductors and dielectric materials for high-temperature and energy savings and harvesting applications; 4) Dielectric materials for sensing devices.

In addition to traditional areas of semiconductor processing, novel topological insulators are of interest, which may lead to new applications of nanosystems. A special session of the symposium highlights advances in data-driven approaches to dielectric materials. In recent years, datadriven materials science has attracted significant attention for its potential to accelerate the discovery of innovative materials. This strategy can be effectively applied to dielectrics: first, a comprehensive database is created through automated calculations; next, virtual screening is performed using machine learning techniques; and finally, high-throughput experimental screening is conducted on the most promising candidates to identify new dielectric materials. In this special session, a complete workflow used for discovering new dielectrics is presented and some recent findings from the organizers’ research works is also presented.

Abstracts should clearly indicate the purpose of the work, approach, manner, and degree to which the work advances the field, as well as specific results and their significance.

This symposium invites papers dealing with the fundamental uses of plasma discharges in a variety of applications, such as electrochemistry and catalysis. Plasma electrochemistry is becoming an interesting subject with several possibilities for using plasma discharges as electrodes in contact with liquid electrolytes. Plasma electrochemistry is being exploited for nanomaterials processing and helping the electrochemical processing of chemicals and fuels. Similarly, plasmas or excited gas phase is also being pursued synergistically with catalysis. Plasma catalysis and plasma electrochemistry are emerging multidisciplinary fields with converging fields of the gas-solid interface, catalysis, plasma science, and nanomaterials.

Papers of interest deal with various aspects of plasma chemistry, plasma-solid and plasma-electrolyte interface dynamics and applications in CO2 reduction, methane reforming, ammonia formation, and other chemical processing applications. Papers dealing with fundamental concepts involving plasma chemistry and plasma electrochemistry, atmospheric plasma discharges, scale-up studies, and their use in nanomaterials processing are also of interest.

Electrodeposition Division

Electrodeposition is a facile method for fabricating materials and thus finds many applications. From energy storage to semiconductors, and from batteries to corrosion protection, the applications of electrodeposition are boundless. But these applications continually require innovations in the array of materials that electrodeposition can effectively fabricate. In this context, electrodeposition faces numerous hurdles that must be overcome.

Controlling materials properties (composition, texture, crystallinity, thickness and thickness distribution, adhesion, surface morphology, etc.) and processing attributes (bath stability, parasitic reactions, etc.) is challenging especially when developing electrodeposition processes for new and emerging applications. This symposium invites contributions detailing efforts to conquer such issues through a variety of approaches including but not limited to: • Electrolyte design for compositional control in deposition; • Epitaxial approaches including e-ALD and e-ALE for morphological control; • Novel cell designs for controlling current distributions in electrodeposition; • New additives-assisted processes leveraging surface phenomena including adsorption, wetting, and potential-dependent behavior; • Challenges specific to electrodeposition in non-aqueous media including ionic liquids, organic solvents, and deep eutectic solvents; • Electrodeposition in high-temperature molten-salt electrolysis systems; • Modeling-based approaches to design processes for difficultto-plate metals including first-principles theory and continuumbased approaches; • Controlling parasitic reactions during electrodeposition including the effects of pH change during growth; • Instabilities in growth behavior including formation and suppression of dendrites; • Electrolyte bath instabilities and efforts to monitor and control bath stability; • New alloys and compounds possible via electrodeposition and applications they may enable; • New developments to enable in situ and in operando monitoring of electrodeposition; • Challenges in primary extractive electrometallurgy of metals such as iron for future sustainability and decarbonization in metals production.

This symposium includes the presentation of the Industrial Electrochemistry and Electrochemical Engineering Division New Energy Technology (NET) Award.

The path from discovery, invention, and scientific understanding to well-engineered products and processes is complex and involves the integration of a wide range of skills and perspectives. This is particularly true in electrochemical engineering, where the development of viable 9

processes in energy, environment, health care, or information technology requires understanding of molecular mechanisms, tailoring new materials, and integrating data over a wide range of scales to scale-up, designing, and developing manufacturing methods able to produce reliable devices and products at low cost. A clear understanding and creative application of the fundamentals are essential to successfully address these challenges.

The goal of this symposium is to draw together the collective interests of scientists and engineers skilled in moving along the path from ideas to profits. The reduction to routine use of the approaches presented here will define essential engineering methods for emerging electrochemical applications for which increased predictability is of high importance.

Of interest are engineering methods that have emerged from diverse applications such as nano-bio-micro-devices, photovoltaic converters, electrolysis, batteries, biomedical devices, etc. Such methods might include examples of exploratory work that targets the need for detailed fundamental understanding down to the molecular level; methods for early establishment of engineering goals for a proposed product; methods that are able to guide optimal performance in conversion when using renewable, “crude” feeds; examples of manipulating solution chemistry and electrochemical cell materials to meet production realities; methods for guiding discovery of novel materials and predicting their interactions with other cell components; development of process control methods for ensuring quality at the atomic scale; mathematical modeling of continuum and/or stochastic behavior of cell components as well as entire systems including prediction of behavior at multiple scales; estimating unknown parameters, quantifying uncertainty, and linking the pieces to optimize an overall system.

This symposium explores advances in fundamental and applied electrochemistry and electrochemical systems to enable economical, efficient, and safe energy and hydrogen storage and release. For example, by using electrochemical methods, electrical power can be directly stored in organic and inorganic carriers as protons (H+) and electrons (e-) at the cathode rather than molecular hydrogen (H2). When hydrogen or power is needed, the carriers are electrochemically dehydrogenated (i.e., oxidized) at the anode to release H+ and e- that can be used for electrochemical reductions, H2 evolution, or power generation at the cathode, thereby eliminating the need for the H2 storage and transportation infrastructure.

The energy and hydrogen carriers can be derived from abundant and naturally occurring compounds such as carbon dioxide (CO2), nitrogen (N2), nitrates (NO3-), and bicarbonates (HCO3-). The energy and hydrogen carriers of interest include but are not limited to alcohols, ammonia, bicarbonates, carboxylic acids, and ketones, as well as aromatic and aliphatic (un-) saturated molecules.

This symposium covers topics including electrochemical reduction (for carrier formation and energy storage), and electrochemical oxidation (for carrier regeneration and energy release). Contributions may address areas including: 1) Electrocatalyst synthesis and characterization; 2) Electrolyte design and electrochemical reaction conditions optimization; 3) Mechanistic studies of electrochemical oxidation and reduction reactions; 4) Electrochemical reactor and membrane design and scale-up; 5) Process integration and intensification; 6) Techno-economic analysis and life-cycle assessment; 10

This symposium focuses on the science of advanced materials, processing, devices, architectures, and applications required to enhance the performance of silicon-compatible CMOS and post-CMOS technology.

Topics of particular focus relate to analog and digital integrated circuits, non-volatile memory, neuromorphic, spin, and quantum technology. Of special interest are nanostructures and materials to further enable new functionalities thereby augmenting the current computing and hardware paradigm.

Topics of interest include: 1) Materials and processes needed to realize advanced devices for increased performance, while reducing power consumption and cost of ownership. Examples of devices include FinFET, ultrathin body SOI, nanowires, nanosheets, gate-all-around devices, among others that can be synthesized on large-area silicon wafers by epitaxial or other innovative methods. Negative capacitance devices based on binary or ternary oxides, ferroelectric materials and similar processes integrated on silicon are also invited.

Synthesis of the new materials as well as unit processes that are essential for the realization of successful device structures are of particular interest, specifically if augmented by novel thin-film deposition (ALD/CVD), dry etch (RIE/ALE), and wet processing techniques. Topics of interest also include high-performance gate stacks, high-mobility channel materials, strain engineering, low-resistivity contacts, source/drain epitaxy for strain, junction formation, low-k dielectrics, and interconnect technology, among others. Process technology contributions describing challenges to fabricate the above advanced structures for applications ranging from high-frequency 5G, artificial intelligence, smart home, and other high-frequency and high-bandwidth applications are also welcome.

2) Materials, processes, devices, and technology for optical, laser, RF, and other nonconventional nanoelectronics devices. This includes advanced power electronics devices, for example, including innovation in SiC and GaN technologies, microLED devices, and high-frequency RF devices based on non-Si technologies. Monolithic integration in Si and group-IV alloys, InP- and GaAs-based photonic devices in Si, optical interconnect technology, other optical devices on silicon (lasers, LEDs, detectors amplifiers, etc.) are also invited.

3) Materials, processes, devices, and technology for enabling neuromorphic, spin, and quantum devices. Novel non-volatile memory elements, materials, and devices for neuromorphic computing: Examples include MRAM, RRAM, ferroelectric RAM, and phase change memory, among others. Low-cost hydrogen from renewable energy is now seen as a viable, clean alternative fuel for use in applications including mobility, back-up power, and grid energy storage, as well as a feedstock for fertilizer, steel, cement, and petrochemical upgrading. In a longer term, the large-scale production of hydrogen from water electrolysis is needed for global CO2 reductions toward net-zero emissions. This symposium on low-temperature water electrolysis for H2 production is a new, broad symposium. It brings together the electrochemical community to focus on the technical solutions across the range of technologies including but not limited to polymer electrolyte (acidic) electrolysis; liquid alkaline electrolysis; alkaline membrane electrolysis; membrane-less or bipolar membrane electrolysis; decoupled electrodes; and supporting technologies such as electrochemical hydrogen compression, hydrogen storage, and unitized reversible fuel cells.

Monday morning brings together invited plenary speakers on key advances in low-temperature water electrolysis. Monday afternoon is a panel from the electrolysis industry to provide industrial perspectives. The remainder of the symposium is comprised of parallel sessions covering research topics including new electrocatalysts, membranes, porous transport layers (PTLs), MEA design, stack engineering, and modeling and diagnostic tools which affect the performance, efficiency, cost, and durability of electrolysis systems when integrated with renewable energy sources. Abstracts are welcome on the following topics: 1) Electrocatalysts for the HER and OER in acid or alkaline media including non-precious metals and methods to decrease the loading of precious metals (Ir and Pt), approaches to improving their activity and durability, and analytical tools to characterize the electrocatalysts; 2) Membrane and ionomer technologies, such as methods for high durability membranes, progress on PFSA-free membranes and alkaline membranes, and techniques to separate oxidizer and fuel in membrane-less technologies; 3) Electrode and MEA design and optimization that focus on electrode structures, membrane/electrode/PTL interface, advanced electrode and MEA concepts; 4) Stack engineering and operations that will include component integration, sealing technology, heat management, and approaches for rapid or large-scale MEA and stack manufacturing; 5) Modeling and diagnostics of performance loss and durability pertaining to kinetics, mass transport, and Ohmic losses; 6) Advanced concepts and systems for water electrolysis including systems integration approaches to facilitate integration with renewables, gas pressurization, hybrid systems, new uses of hydrogen, and technoeconomic analysis of the environmental impact of hydrogen systems.

Electrosynthesis of fuels provides a powerful means to convert readily available molecules such as CO2, H2O, N2, or conventional energy sources (e.g., natural gas, solid carbon, etc.) into energy-intensive fuels and valuable chemicals through electrochemical reactions. Electrosynthesis of fuels represents an important step toward modernizing the chemical and energy industry, which emphasizes precision, efficiency, and resilience without depending solely on one energy source. This Electrosynthesis of Fuels 10 symposium provides an international forum for the presentation and discussion of the latest developments in electrolysis and related topics.

The application of the same cells as fuel cells is of equal importance because reversible cells offer an efficient and flexible solution for largescale energy storage and conversion within integrated energy systems.

Papers are solicited on topics as follows: 1) Electrolysis cells that convert CO2, H2O, N2, and light alkanes.

2) Solid oxide fuel cells and protonic ceramic fuel cells based on H2, hydrocarbons, carbon, and ammonia.

The feasibility of performing nitrogen electroreduction reaction, or nitrogen fixation, both in aqueous and non-aqueous solutions, constitutes an attractive prospect to produce ammonia under ambient, or near ambient, conditions. Development of durable, specific, and reasonably efficient, low-cost catalysts remains a great challenge for electrochemical science and technology. Currently, most electrochemical approaches to N2-fixation suffer from slow kinetics due to the difficulty of achieving the appropriate adsorption and activation of dinitrogen leading to cleavage of the strong, triple N≡N bond. Alternatively, the moderate dissociation energy of the N=O bond in nitrate anion (NO3–) makes it an alternative choice to N2 because it promises better kinetics for NH3 production.

Experimental conditions, including a choice of solvent and electrolyte, its acidity, as well as the presence of certain cations and anions are of importance as well. In the case of N2-reduction, low yields and possibility of contamination require rigorous procedures and careful analytical approaches. For example, a promising approach to synthesize NH3 involves lithium- or calcium-mediated reduction of nitrogen in organic solvents. Ammonia is not only the second largest chemical produced in the world after sulfuric acid but is also a promising candidate for transporting and storing hydrogen due to its notable energy density. In this respect, the NH3-oxidation electrolysis offers a promising environmentally friendly approach to generate H2 at ambient temperature using suitable catalysts.

The symposium features presentations on research dealing with the fundamental and potentially applied aspects of electrochemical conversions of nitrogen, nitrogen-oxo species, or ammonia, i.e., the processes which are of relevance to various aspects of science and prospective technologies.

The symposium aims to bring together researchers in different areas of electrocatalysis and materials chemistry as well as electrochemical science and technology with the intent to discuss the current state of the art and understanding of the electrochemical fixation and the electrochemistry of nitrogen and its simple inorganic compounds. Experimental and theoretical papers as well as contributions involving simulations and DFT calculations are welcomed in an effort to forge a stronger link between experiential parameters and reaction mechanisms. Additional specific areas covered include the design of electrode materials, new preparative and processing approaches, fabrication of advanced catalytic systems, as well as their characterization, including in situ and ex situ methods, electrochemical properties and performances, and computational modeling.

The symposium includes invited and contributed papers on all aspects of the electrochemistry of N2 and N-compounds. Presentation and discussion of comparative results based on photoelectrochemical and bioelectrochemical approaches are welcome.

This symposium focuses on the expanding frontiers of electrochemical microscopy, nanoelectrochemistry, and single-entity electrochemistry, highlighting experimental, theoretical, and instrumental advances that enable electrochemical measurements with high resolution. We welcome contributions that explore how new approaches, such as scanning probe electrochemical microscopy (SECM, SECCM, SICM, EC-STM, AFMbased techniques) and single-entity electrochemical detection, provide unprecedented insights into electrochemical reactivity.

Electrochemical reactivity measurements at the micrometer and submicrometer scales are providing new insights into the mechanisms of electrocatalysis, photoelectrocatalysis, and interfacial phenomena in systems ranging from energy materials to biological environments.

This symposium provides a forum for the broad discussion of research and development in the field of physical and chemical sensors (gas, liquid, and other types), including molecular recognition surfaces, transduction methods, and integrated and microsensor systems. 1) Development of new selective molecular recognition surface and materials; 2) Sensor and analytical systems for safety and security; 3) Novel methods for signal amplification and detection; 4) Sensor arrays for the simultaneous detection of multiple analytes; 5) Micro total analysis systems (μTAS); 6) Physics and chemistry of sensors and sensor materials, synthesis/fabrication, and characterization of novel compositions; 7) Novel sensor concepts, design, modeling, and verification; 8) Sensor arrays, and electronic noses and tongues; 9) Physical, chemical, and biological/biomedical sensors and actuators, such as gas, humidity, ion, and molecular sensors, their system integration, and actuating functions; 10) Optical sensors and fiber optic sensors; 11) Wireless sensors; 12) Emerging technologies and applications including nanosensors and sensors leveraging nanotechnology; 13) Harsh environment sensors; 14) Printed and wearable sensors.

All transduction methods are of interest for this symposium (e.g., electrochemical, resistive, capacitive, optical, acoustic, gravimetric, and thermal).

The goal of this symposium is to present the broadest possible coverage of modern physical and chemical sensing progress and to highlight the present state of the art relative to basic and applied areas.

This poster session provides a forum for graduate and undergraduate students to present research results of general interest to ECS. The session’s purpose is to foster and promote work in both electrochemical and solid state science and technology, and to stimulate active student interest and participation in ECS. Posters accepted for presentation in this session are eligible for General Student Poster Awards. To be considered for awards, student poster authors must (1) upload a digital poster and (2) be present during the inperson judging session. The top three student authors receive cash prizes: $1,500 for first place, $1,000 for second place, and $500 for third place.

Materials, Devices, and Systems for Z02 Neuromorphic Computing and Artificial Intelligence Hardware 4 Dielectric Science and Technology Division; Electronics and Photonics Division; High-Temperature Energy, Materials,& Processes Division; Nanocarbons Division Devices and circuits are evolving to implement brain-inspired neural systems and brain-like energy efficiency in silicon-based computing systems, novel materials processing, and devices and circuits. This symposium addresses the devices for the hardware requirements using nanoscale solid state and electrochemical materials that enable neuromorphic computing and next-generation AI technologies. This includes in-memory computing and implementation of deep neural network circuits. In some instances, materials and device co-design, and device and circuit co-design, are required through extensive simulation and processing for system implementation. Issues like energy efficiency and performance enhancement are required to emulate the brain’s connectivity in hardware. The switching devices that replicate the electronic synapse need to reduce the device-to-device or in-device stochasticity. It is also required to understand how these materials/devices (mechanisms) work for neuromorphic applications.

The following are indicative topic areas covered by the symposium: 1) Neuromorphic computing and AI hardware-related materials and devices: New devices, metals, and different switching layer materials are being considered for AI and neuromorphic computing, for example, resistive RAM; ferroelectric RAM, STT-MRAM, and phase-change memory (PCM) are taking the lead to reduce power requirements; materials optimization and development for neuromorphic purposes, such as CMOScompatible ferroelectrics, multiferroics, etc.

2) Materials and device co-design for AI: DFT and other simulation approaches to build devices with optimal performance with energy efficiency; this can involve transition metal oxides and different layered materials.

3) Processing requirements: Fabrication of these devices is a critical requirement to engineer materials and interfaces.

4) Device and circuit co-design: Fabrication of different resistive switching devices, circuits, and arrays for different applications; device optimization for circuit design requirements.

5) Impact of variability: Analyzing the impact of variability on the performance of crossbar arrays of resistive switching devices for different applications; account for thermal effects on performance (thermal management); optimization of switching layer.

6) Young scientists: The symposium’s Young Investigators Session aims to provide a unique forum for senior PhD students and early-career researchers to present papers related to AI devices and materials. Of interest are new materials and designs; theoretical and experimental aspects of inorganic and organic dielectric materials; growth processes; bulk and interfacial properties; metal-dielectric interface; electric and ionic transport; porous dielectrics; and thin and ultra-thin films.

Artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), and data science (DS) are transforming electrochemical science and engineering. From accelerating materials discovery and property prediction to enabling autonomous experimentation and data-driven process optimization, these methods are unlocking new pathways for understanding, designing, and operating electrochemical systems at every scale. This symposium unifies sessions previously distributed across multiple ECS Divisions into a single, comprehensive forum that reflects the field’s growing recognition that AI, ML, and DS are not tools belonging to any single subdiscipline, but a shared methodological language for electrochemistry as a whole.

This symposium welcomes contributions from researchers developing and applying AI, ML, and DS methods to electrochemical systems across fundamental science and engineering through industrially relevant technology development. Of particular interest are physics-informed and hybrid ML models that integrate mechanistic understanding with datadriven approaches, ML-guided materials and process discovery, highthroughput experimentation platforms integrated with active learning strategies, and autonomous laboratory systems. Contributions that address uncertainty quantification, model interpretability, and robust data management frameworks are also encouraged. Papers may contain theoretical, computational, and/or experimental aspects. Both fundamental and applied contributions are welcome, and all electrochemical systems and chemistries are in scope, including but not limited to batteries, fuel cells, electrolyzers, electrodeposition, corrosion, bioelectrochemical systems, and industrial electrochemical processes.

Topics include but are not limited to: 1) AI/ML for materials discovery and property prediction: ML-guided screening and inverse design of electrochemical materials including electrolytes, electrodes, and catalysts;

The symposium includes invited speakers and panelists providing historical perspectives, forward-looking tutorials, and research highlights, alongside contributed oral presentations and poster sessions.

Tutorial presentations are particularly encouraged to support students and researchers entering this rapidly evolving area. Presentations on industrially significant areas are especially welcome.
