Go Down Moses A Passover Story (Part 3)

Moses & Aaron Unite Aaron & Moses met each other in the wilderness and they were of course very happy to be united together. As instructed, Moses told Aaron all the words that God had said unto him and showed him the signs. These two brothers went to the elders of Israel & Aaron spoke the words of the Lord unto the people and showed them the two great signs, including the rod turning into a serpant and the hand becoming white as snow. And do you know that the people believed? Yes, they believed & worshipped the Lord.

Moses & Aaron Face Pharaoh Now that the elders of Israel knew God’s plan, it was time for Moses & Aaron to go to Pharaoh face to face.

This is what they said, “Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, Let my people go, that they may hold a feast unto me in the wilderness.” But as God said would happen, Pharaoh would not let the people go and said he knew not the God of Israel.

Pharaoh Punishes Israel Pharaoh did not let the people of Israel go. Instead, he placed even more labor and work upon them saying, “Ye shall no more give the people straw to make brick, as heretofore: let them go and gather straw for themselves.� Oh poor Israel. Not only did they have to gather their own straw but they still had to make the same amount of brick. The king of Egypt was very cruel.

The People Are Mad at Moses With more burden placed upon them, Israel was very upset with Moses & Aaron. They felt that these two brothers did more harm then good. So Moses inquired of the Lord saying this, “Lord, wherefore hast thou so evil entreated this people? why is it that thou hast sent me? For since I came to Pharaoh to speak in thy name, he hath done evil to this people; neither hast thou delivered thy people at all.�

God’s Words of Hope & Comfort “Then the LORD said unto Moses, Now shalt thou see what I will do to Pharaoh: for with a strong hand shall he let them go, and with a strong hand shall he drive them out of his land. And God spake unto Moses, and said unto him, I am the LORD: And I appeared unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, by the name of God Almighty, but by my name JEHOVAH was I not known to them. And I have also established my covenant with them, to give them the land of Canaan, the land of their pilgrimage, wherein they were strangers. And I have also heard the groaning of the children of Israel, whom the Egyptians keep in bondage; and I have remembered my covenant.” (Exodus 6: 1-5)

God’s Words of Hope & Comfort “Wherefore say unto the children of Israel, I am the LORD, and I will bring you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians, and I will rid you out of their bondage, and I will redeem you with a stretched out arm, and with great judgments: And I will take you to me for a people, and I will be to you a God: and ye shall know that I am the LORD your God, which bringeth you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians. And I will bring you in unto the land, concerning the which I did swear to give it to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob; and I will give it you for an heritage: I am the LORD.” (Exodus 6: 6-8)

Israel in Anguish So Moses did indeed say these beautiful words of the Lord unto Israel. But Israel was just so very sad because of their captivity that they did not listen unto the words of God. They were just too miserable but God was not finished yet. No he was not finished with that old wicked King of Egypt yet!

God Harden Pharaoh’s Heart God told Moses that he would harden the heart of Pharaoh so that he would not let the children of Israel go right away, meaning he would not listen to Moses or Aaron. But why would the Lord do such a thing? Because God was judging Egypt.

He was going to bring forth many miracles and great signs upon this wicked country so that Egypt would truly know who God was and his power. Only after these plagues, would Israel be set free. So the let the plagues begin!
