Brou calls for collaborative support on regional border security by MS President Jean-Claude Kassi Brou of ECOWAS Commission, in his presentation to the Plenary on the Status of the Community, has called for collaborative support among Member States, in order to address issues that border on regional peace and security. He decried terrorist attacks in some Member States (especially around the Sahel) and the bourgeoning conflicts between herdsmen and farmers, hallmarks of insecurity in the region. According to him, “2017 was marked by the persistence of some crises that were accompanied by protests. With regard to regional peace and security, coordinated efforts must be made to fight against terrorism in the Sahel zone.” Brou remarked that “Terrorism remains one of the most significant threats to regional security. Terrorist attacks on defense and security forces, as well as civilian population have intensified in Mali, Niger, Burkina and Nigeria.
