Citizenship Award
At EB, we celebrate students who seek to uphold the school’s values and who aspire to be a force of good in their community. The Middle School Citizenship Award was created in 2011 to honor a student or group of students for acts of leadership small or large, for inspiring others to higher levels of civic engagement, and for their commitment to building community. Recognized by the entire Middle School body, this year’s award was proudly granted to two students: Axel Hanley and Katya Gay. The two students were acknowledged for their established reputation for giving their time and energy to benefit others and the school in a multitude of ways. Katya and Axel were instrumental in putting the yearbook together this year, which was made even more complicated with the challenges that distance learning presented. Axel served ably as Middle School Secretary, often filling in for the co-Presidents when circumstances made it difficult for them to be active. These two students worked extremely hard this year for the school, but just as importantly, day in and day out they worked hard to support other students, both classmates and non-classmates. If the measure of an individual is how they treat others, how they make others feel, then the measure of these two students is great indeed. A well earned congratulations to these two outstanding citizens. We thank them for being such positive role models at EB!

The EB Endowment
Investing in the long-term sustainability and health of a school promises a brighter future for students and families. We are fortunate to have had past and present donors who believe in and uphold the value of a bilingual education, and decide to support the EB Endowment. The EB Endowment is composed of three funds. The Silver Jubilee Endowment Fund was created in 2003 by one of EB’s founders in celebration of the school’s 25th anniversary. In 2008, the graduating students and their parents created an EB tradition of presenting the school with their legacy gifts to the EB Class Gift Endowment Fund. The purpose of these two funds is to provide a source of permanent financial security for EB. Most recently, in 2015, alumni parents John Rosenthal and Sally Drach established the Fund for Excellence. Allocations from this fund will support specific expenses intended to enhance the educational experience of EB students.
Class of 2020 Raises $3,355 for EB’s Endowment In 2008, the graduating class and their parents created an EB tradition of presenting the school with their legacy gifts to the EB endowment through the EB Class Gift Endowment Fund. While the traditional campaign was paused this year due to the pandemic and the need for support of the Solidarity Fund, in which 8th grade families generously participated, students made their contributions to the class gift in the fall, totaling $355. Other parents and alumni parents joined in giving to the Endowment, for a total of $3,355. Thank you Maria Reyes for your leadership and encouragement throughout this process! The total G8 Class Gifts to the EB Endowment (from 2008 to 2020) are now equal to $126,597. We are grateful for the continued support of the EB Endowment, and for carving the foundation for a strong future!
