Compare what it costs to purchase a quality 4-H beef animal and have it processed the way YOU would like, to the cost of buying your beef over the counter and there are definite savings. You will fill a freezer all at once with QUALITY beef raised with care by 4-H members rather than buying mass produced meat from a store throughout the year! Plus, you will always have meat available for those times you aren’t able to get to a store or go to the store and find the shelves empty.
**PLUS, we have confirmed spots booked at local butchers for all of our steers.**
When you settle your account the night of the sale, you will be given an option from several abattoirs and our friendly office staff will book your steer for you.

* The 4-H beef price is based on the purchase of an average 1300 lb steer at sale average price of $3.00/lb at Sale Day. This gives a ~845 lb carcass costing ~$1.00/lb to cut and wrap to your specific request. The final result is ~575 lbs of meat in your freezer at the price of $8.50/lb!
The price per pound average for 4-H Beef has stayed fairly consistent for many years.
So let’s go shopping: You’d like 5 lbs of extra lean ground beef (1 lb for supper tonight, the other 4 you’ll baggie up and freeze for later), 4 decent steaks for the BBQ (each steak = 8 oz), a nice roast for Sunday dinner (4 lbs), and you’ve been wanting that chunk of brisket to put on the smoker (5 lbs). Your grocery bill for the meat comes to $249.00. That same 16 lbs of beef could be sitting in your freezer for $136.00.
Ie: one half of a 1300 lb beef will give you ~ 175 lbs of hamburger, 24 - 8 oz steaks, 12 - 5 lbs roasts, 10lbs of brisket, and 17 lbs of stew meat.
Encourage these dedicated young agricultural men and women to continue their livestock raising activities. These young people put in many hours of labour to bring their animals to the point where they will qualify for the very top grades of meat.
What will it Cost? Young people selling in the auction should receive premium prices. Why this premium? First it allows these 4-H members enough margin for a small profit. Remember, they have higher input costs than commercial stockmen. It’s also an incentive to select, feed, and fit quality animals that are a credit to a sound breeding and production project. Our sale also offers a “Buy Back” Service If you do not wish to use the meat yourself, this provides a way that you can support our 4-H members and reduces the expense to you, the buyer.
