This is this year’s donor steer Blondie. He is being raised by a Hazel Dell family.
Our 2022 donor steer is being sold by RAFFLE. Raffle tickets are available from all our 4-H members for $10/ticket. First prize will be one half of the beef, cut and wrapped. Second and third prizes will each be one quarter of the beef, cut and wrapped. Only 1,000 tickets printed. The draw will be made at our sale, June 1, 2022 at the Eckville Arena. Raffle license #591431. Money raised by the raffle of this steer will be donated back to local charities. The profit from this raffle will divided equally between the Sales Committee and the three clubs. The clubs each vote and decide on a local charity to support with their portion of the proceeds. Thank you for helping our 4-H clubs with this cause.
Compare what it costs to purchase a quality 4-H beef animal and have it processed the way YOU would like, to the cost of buying your beef over the counter and there are definite savings. You will fill a freezer all at once with QUALITY beef raised with care by 4-H members for about $7.50/lb rather than buying mass produced meat from a store throughout the year! No crazy price fluctuations or paying $40 for a steak! You will always have meat available for those times you aren’t able to get to a store or get there and find the meat shelves empty.
**Plus, we have confirmed spots at local butchers for all of our steers.** Price Comparison Retail Store Prices (prices from a local grocery, April 2022) X Lean Ground Beef $8.50/lb Rib Steak $28.04/lb Sirloin Steak $15.00/lb Striploin Steak $22.04/lb Tenderloin Steak $39.09/lb Stew Meat $10.50/lb Round Steak $10.00/lb Round (Rump) Roast $12.00/lb Top Sirloin Roast $14.41/lb Prime Rib Roast $22.04/lb Brisket $15.04/lb
4-H Beef Price * X Lean Ground Beef Rib Steak Sirloin Steak Striploin Steak Tenderloin Steak Stew Meat Round Steak Round (Rump) Roast Top Sirloin Roast Prime Rib Roast Brisket
$7.50/lb $7.50/lb $7.50/lb $7.50/lb $7.50/lb $7.50/lb $7.50/lb $7.50/lb $7.50/lb $7.50/lb $7.50/lb
* The 4-H beef price is based on the purchase of a 1226 lb steer at $2.73/lb at Sale Day (weight and price average from our last live sale). This gives a ~795 lb carcass costing ~$0.70/lb to cut and wrap to your specific request. The final result is 520 lbs of meat in your freezer at the price of $7.50/lb! The price per pound average for 4-H Beef has stayed fairly consistent for many years.
So let’s go shopping: You’d like 5 lbs of extra lean ground beef (1 lb for supper tonight, the other 4 you’ll baggie up and freeze for later), 4 decent steaks for the BBQ (each steak = 8 oz), a nice roast for Sunday dinner (4 lbs), and you’ve been wanting that chunk of brisket to put on the smoker (5 lbs). Your grocery bill for the meat comes to $219.42. That same 16 lbs of beef could be sitting in your freezer for $120.00. For example, one half of beef will give you ~ 150 lbs of hamburger, 24 - 8 oz steaks, 10 - 4 lbs roasts, 10lbs of brisket, and 12 lbs of stew meat. 19
