magnificent piece, though hampered by a less-than-ideal libretto portraying the dramatic rescue of a political prisoner by his wife.

Though the short, dramatically neutral Fidelio Overture is customarily used as the curtain-raiser in performances of the opera today, the third Leonore Overture has become an important concert work, and it is one of Beethoven’s most visionary orchestral pieces, in effect a tone poem composed some 40 years before that term gained currency in 19th century music. Set as a large sonata-form movement with a lengthy introduction, its scale and dramatic value invite comparison with the opening movement of Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony, written nearly 20 years later. But the improvisational freedom and virtuosity with which Beethoven played upon his orchestra in this willful overture constitute a different listening experience

A MONTHLY TIME PRICE DIFFERENTIAL LATE PAYMENT FEE OF .565% COMPOUNDED (7% ANNUAL PERCENTAGE RATE) WILL BE CHARGED ON ANY AMOUNT NOT PAID WITHIN 30 DAYS OF ITS INVOICE DATE. 2. Requests for adjustments relative to advertising must be received in writing by the publisher within 10 days of invoice date.

3. In the event the publisher makes an error in reproduction of the advertisement, Publisher reserves the right, at its own discretion, to rerun a corrected advertisement or to adjust the invoice to reflect such error.

4. The closing date for space reservation is stated on the rate card. Cancellations are not accepted after the closing date.

5. Advertisers using more space than contracted for will be rebated at the prevailing rate in effect at time of pub-

lication. Advertisers failing to run contracted space are subject to shortrate.

6. In the event that Publisher shall be compelled to institute collection procedures, including the institution of legal proceedings to enforce any of its rights or any of the advertiser’s duties or obligations hereunder, then and in such event, Publisher shall be entitled to recover from the advertiser all costs thereof, including, but not limited to, actual attorney’s fees and all service charges assessed under item 1. Publisher reserves the right to hold advertiser and/or its advertising agency jointly and severally liable for such moneys as are due and payable to the Publisher.

7. When no copy is provided by the advertiser by the closing date, Publisher may insert copy from a previous advertisement unless an extension has been granted.

It is understood and agreed that if no material is furnished by the advertiser, Publisher will put forth its best efforts to comply with advertiser’s instructions, but can assume no responsibility for failure to do so.
