10 Tips for Buying A Bed 1. Buy the best you can afford, a cheap bed will wear out faster and give you less comfort and support.

2. If you’re buying a Double or Queen, shop together – it’s not a decision you should make alone.

3. Don’t shop at the end of the day as any bed will feel comfy!

4. Try the bed by lying on it. Kick off your shoes and ask for a pillow.

5. The perfect bed should be at least 15cm longer than the tallest occupant.

6. Put your hands behind your head. If your elbows touch the side of the bed or they overhang, it’s too small.

7. The heavier you are, the firmer the bed you will need. Can you slide your hand under the small of your back easily? If so, the bed is too firm.

8. Never buy on looks alone, although a high quality damask is often an indication of better quality.

9. Remember, orthopedic beds are just beds with different firmness and a too-firm bed can actually aggravate a back problem.

10. The firmness you need depends on your weight. If you and your partner’s weight vary by more than 25kg, perhaps you need a higher spring count, or a pocket sprung bed.
