TELEVISION GUIDE Wednesday November 28, to Tuesday December 4, 2012 Highlights this week 1. It may have been created to provide pensions for some of Britain’s favourite old actors, but New Tricks (Friday, ABC1 8.30pm) is a watchable crime series if you don’t mind the absence of gunfire and explosions. The premise is a team of retired cops taking on cold cases, and the interaction of the old fogies is as important to the entertainment as the plot. 2. Moving from a series about credible human beings to a piece of meretricious rubbish, Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds (Saturday, Prime 9.30pm) concerns a group of Jewish American soldiers with a plan to assassinate Hitler. As usual Tarantino infuses his shallow and near nonsensical content with a pace and verve that make it seem like you are actually watching a good movie.
