TELEVISION GUIDE Wednesday May 30 to Tuesday June 5, 2012 Highlights this week 1. Romantic comedy at its best when Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan collide in When Harry Met Sally (ABC2, Saturday, 8.30pm), based on incidents from the life of director Rob Reiner as told to the multi-talented Nora Ephron, who also wrote the less enchanting Sleepless In Seattle and was married to journalist Carl Bernstein of Watergate fame. Chiefly famous for the faked orgasm scene in Katz’s deli in Manhattan, but there is plenty else to enjoy. The fun continues into the evening when at 10.05pm ABC2 screens The Go-Between, the excellent 1971 drama starring Alan Bates and Julie Christie based on the 1953 novel by by L. P. Hartley (1895–1972) which famously begins: ‘The past is a foreign country: they do things differently there.’ Reiner also directed Stand By Me and The Princess Bride, both worth getting your hands on. 2. Now here’s a recent Australian film with a stellar cast: Fred Schepsi’s Eye of the Storm (ABC1, Sunday, 8.30pm), based on Patrick White’s famous novel, showcases the talents of Geoffrey Rush, Judy Davis, Charlotte Rampling and Robyn Nevin, to name a few, and benefits from a witty script by Judy Morris. See the film’s website at http:// theeyeofthestorm.com.au. White is deservedly regarded as one of the great novelists of the 20th century.
