TELEVISION GUIDE Wednesday May 16 to Tuesday May 22, 2012 Highlights this week 1. Nastassja Kinski stars as Mathilde in the French scifi film In Your Image (SBS2, Saturday, 9.30pm) based on the novel À ton image by Louise L Lambrichs. In order to put a painful past and a terrible sense of guilt behind her, a sterile young woman named Mathilde uses extreme cloning methods to give birth to Manon (Audrey DeWilder), and is comforted by her obstetrician husband Thomas (Christopher Lambert). The child’s growth is abnormally rapid and she becomes the splitting image of her mother. Gradually, the relation between them evolves in an odd manner as Manon takes over her mother’s role in the family. French scifi often deals with troubling themes – witness Francois Truffaut’s version of Ray Bradbury’s Fahrenheit 541. 2. Fans of the world game – yes, Gil Crespy, there is life beyond league – are in for a cracker with the UEFA Champions League Final (SBS2, Sunday, 9.30pm), the best clash between Britain and German since 1939. Chelsea take on Bayern Munich in a display of virtuosity which we hope will escape the doldrums of championship nerves. We suspect Bayern Munich will have the goods to overpower an injuryplagued Chelsea. What’s pleasing about the modern game is the rise of young stars out of Africa, displaying astonishing grace and speed.
