lşƖŕƐ mëſĎĶ Ǖ ſĕ ĶŔżëĈƐƆ Ʒſşŕ IJĶſĕ Aslan Shand Over 1,300 people turned up for the community fire meeting at the Civic Hall in Mullumbimby on Monday morning. The hall was full and rows of people were at every door as concerned locals strained to hear the fire services, police, council, and other emergency services groups spell out the current fire risks for the Byron Shire and beyond. The message was clear: prepare your properties as this makes the job of defending it much easier, and be clear regarding your fire plan. If you are going to stay and defend your properties then make sure you are prepared. If you are going to leave, leave early.

I don’t know if we have had this level of fire rating in NSW before.’

Level 3 water restrictions for Mullum Aslan Shand Following last week’s announcement, level 1 water restrictions for Mullumbimby have now been upgraded to level 3. According to Byron Shire Council (BSC), ‘The upgrade from Level 1 straight to Level 3 is in response to a further drop of the water levels at Mullumbimby’s water supply, Lavertys Gap Weir on Wilsons Creek. In addition, the escalated water restriction is to ensure a secure supply in the reservoir to withstand the current threat of bushfires in the region.’ For Mullumbimby residents Level 3 water restrictions mean: no watering of established lawns; watering of gardens only permitted
