Guitars, goosebumps, and glampsters

Jasmine Knight-Smith & Darren Bridge It’s festival day one, and the cold is really kicking in, so we head to the nearest fire to warm our bodies, ready for what will come next. Young girls have apparently spent hours getting ready applying makeup and glitter and minimal clothing, while young boys, realising all too late their lack of effort, seem to have donned newly acquired pirate hats and Mexican-style ponchos. When the winter sun starts setting on Splendour, there is a crispness in the air, cooling a sea of goosebump-covered bare

legs and banditos, who move in waves towards the next act. Meg Mac kept everyone captivated, with a set and a stage presence that grows in stature every year. enthusiasm and easy rapport with the band members. It is infectious, and the audience went wild. Trudging back to the carpark we realised that we were done for the weekend and that Sunday would have to go on without us. Hats off to the Splendour crew for reducing plastic waste this year and for putting systems in place that reduced traffic and made exiting by car not only manageable but easy and stress free. Splendour 2019, thoroughly enjoyable!
