CERTIFICATE III IN AGED CARE CHC30212

Tutor Profile: Jeni Summers Cert III Aged Care

I started my community service career firstly by training in early childhood work. My passion was working with children with special needs, early integration and play in hospitals. When I was enjoying raising my 3 sons, I worked at home as a host mum for many young children with a range of special needs. Then when the boys were school age, I helped set up and coordinated an integrated After School Care service in Sydney’s Western suburbs and became a staff trainer. Some years later, I did my Certificate III in Aged Care and worked for 10 years in Aged Care facilities, in the community and as a Lifestyle coordinator for Feros Care. We then moved up to the north coast to support my ageing parents as my Mum was diagnosed with dementia. At present I work as a community support worker in the disability sector. I received my Certificate IV in Training and Assessment here at the College and have really enjoyed tutoring the Certificate III in Aged Care with Kellie over the past 4 years. It is wonderful to meet up with past students working in our local Aged Care services and to see them confident with their new career.

Kellie has been involved in the aged care industry for over 17 years, working in a variety of private and community home care positions both in Australia and the UK. She also teaches infection control and manual handling privately to local healthcare providers. Currently working in an aged care facility in Ballina she provides relevant, up to date information to her students and has been co-teaching the Certificate III in Aged Care with Jeni at Byron Community College for 4 years. She is passionate about sharing her real life experiences with her students and feels that it’s this experience in the field that makes her classes interesting and real. Student Profile: Katie Lloyd Certificate III in Visual Arts

Last year, I gave myself the gift of studying Visual Arts at Byron Community College. I call it a ‘gift’ as a year of studying Visual Arts is one of the most rewarding, and nourishing experience you can give to yourself. I felt so enriched by the process that I felt compelled to tell my friends that it was my best year ever. I had already been painting but the diversity of the course deepened my practice and provided me with a broadened range of tools to express my creativity in a fun and supporting environment. After completing the course I decided to change my career path and am now opening the creative reuse centre called Earthwise Reusable Arts so I may support other artists, and the arts within the Northern Rivers. I started life modeling too! I would recommend for anyone considering the course to just do it! Who knows, maybe it will change your life too....
