whether you want a religious or civil wedding. Then comes the choice of reception venue. The possibilities abound: reception hall, conference center, restaurant, hotel, country inn, golf club, outfitter, ski resort, spa, vineyard, orchard, farm, museum, botanical garden, marina, cruise ship, or cottage. The options depend only on your imagination.

Narrow down your list of choices by finding out if they can accommodate everyone on your guest list. Ask about the services and equipment available, such as tables and chairs, decorations,

catering, entertainment, liquor license, bathrooms, kitchen area, and audio and video equipment.

To occupy younger children before the meal, you could organize a visit from a magician or a clown, who can perform a colorful routine lasting around thirty minutes. If your reception hall will allow it, you could rent an inflatable castle or organize a thematic treasure hunt with a teenaged guest to facilitate it.

Inside the hall set up an activity table with bottles of bubble-blowing liquid, arts and crafts supplies, and board games. You might even hire an artist to do face-painting. At the very least, it’s a good idea to reserve an area especially for the kids, where their high energy levels won’t bother the other guests and where they can be free from pressures to sit still and be quiet.

If you do have a kids’ table, cover it with a

he countdown has started; sending out your wedding invitations makes it all seem official. It is an important step indeed. In addition to announcing your wedding, this little piece of cardstock, tucked so neatly into its pretty envelope, gives your guests a taste of the celebrations to come. Their curiosity will definitely be aroused.

To show all this promise, your invitation should include: · the names of the bride and groom (include those of the respective parents if you want to follow the tradition of the parents hosting the wedding) · the location, date, and time of the ceremony · RSVP cards and envelopes (encourage your guests to confirm their presence by including a pre-stamped reply card) · an invitation to the reception (feel free to invite only certain guests to the party following

Send one invitation per address, whether it’s to a single person, couple, or family. Invitations should be mailed at least three months before the big day. Choose a dress to suit your body type

T

housands of different styles and models of wedding gowns are available on the market, one more beautiful than the next. From white to cream, from long to short, and lace, pearls, and silks: there is certainly no lack of choice. But before you set out on a marathon tour of all the wedding dress boutiques, it is important to get to know your body type so that you can know what style of dress will best suit you.

Do you have an hourglass shape (shoulders and hips of equal width, with smaller waist)? You could treat yourself to a “mermaid” gown that accentuates your curves. If you dream of a royal wedding, the princess dress is perfect for you, as is a two-piece dress with a bustier. In short, anything that flatters the waistline will emphasize your feminine curves.

For apple or V-shaped figures (shoulders broader than the hips), look more for an empire

waist or A-line dress which will balance your proportions.

If your hips are wider than your shoulders, you have a pear or A-shaped figure. Look for an A-line style and avoid a straight or mermaid dress that draws eyes where you don’t want them to be.

When your shoulders, hips, and waist are all of a similar width, you have a straight or I-shape.

Avoid a straight dress, opting for an A-line or princess style or one with a bodice, which will create a more curved effect.

If you’re petite, look for a simple dress without too many frills. Belts should be avoided, as they will cut your silhouette in two where a lengthening effect would be more desirable.

No matter what your body type, let your instincts guide you towards the dress of your dreams. Don’t hesitate to ask for a few extra adjustments from the shop’s seamstress so that you will feel completely comfortable in your gown.

part from the all-important dress, brides wear many small accessories to give the finishing touch to their outfit. To the great delight of all those who dream of being a princess for a day, the more traditional accessories have made a comeback.

Parasols are entirely appropriate for weddings where some of the time will be spent outside. As well as giving a very special look to the bride, the parasol will allow her to shade her face from the sun and ensure that her makeup will look perfect all day long.

The hat has recently experienced a return to popularity. It can be both extravagant and discreet and is particularly suited to outdoor weddings. There is also an increasing trend towards the tiara as the head-dressing of choice for young brides. Whether it is sparkling, slender, jewel-encrusted, or restrained

in style, it is a perfect finishing touch to a princess-style look.

There is also a trend towards the wearing of gloves, particularly when entering the church. They are available with or without fingers and are usually made of lace or satin.

They can be worn in all lengths: short, with only the hand covered, longer, or elbow length. Ideally they should be the same colour and texture of the dress, with no colour pattern. In fact, gloves should be discreet as you don’t want to draw attention away from the dress. If you choose to wear gloves you mustn’t forget to take them off before exchanging the rings. Leave the gloves in your purse or on the table at the reception so that you can show off your new wedding band to full effect!

bouquet is an important accessory for any bride, one that should be coordinated with the dress as well as the style of the wedding itself.

Here are a few tips for choosing the right bouquet: · If you’re wearing a long dress, your options are broader: your bouquet can be round, simple, or cascading. If your gown is shorter, however, it is advisable to opt for a round or discreet bouquet so that your flowers will not hide the dress. · If you’re dreaming of a huge bouquet, keep in mind that the more imposing the bouquet, the heavier it will be to carry. That could get tiring, let alone the chore of trying to throw it over your shoulder! You should also take your figure into consideration when making your choice: a tiny or very slim silhouette can be overwhelmed by a large bouquet.

· Think about personalizing your bouquet with accessories such as lace, pearls, or even fruits. Be sure to set yourself a budget: flowers that are rare or out of season will make your bouquet costs climb.

The language of flowers Even though some brides choose a bouquet for its look, others prefer to use flowers that have a traditional symbolic meaning: red roses (love), white roses (pure love), lilies (purity), carnations (sincere love), tulips (perfect love). If this language means something to you, perhaps you’d better avoid yellow roses (infidelity) and narcissus (selfishness)!

Most important of all, be careful not to choose flowers that will spread pollen all over your beautiful gown.

It is important to leave lots of time to plan a solution to this problem and consult the parties involved; if done well in advance of the wedding day, chances are that you can accommodate everybody’s needs.

A

a carefully planned

seating chart is essential if you want your guests to be able to find their seats quickly and easily at the wedding reception. A seating chart is also an easy way to show the wait staff where children’s meals have to be served and which of your guests have allergies or special diets. It also allows you to strategically place the guests of your choice close to the head table.

Seat guests in a logical fashion. Place families, colleagues, and groups of friends close together; keep separated couples, or guests who don’t get along, as far apart as possible.

Pregnant women and parents with young children should be positioned close to the exit and the bathrooms, but well away from any loudspeakers. If some tables might be moved after the meal in order to create more dance floor space, reserve the tables that will not be moved for these people. Find out ahead of time if high chairs or booster seats will be needed.

The completed seating chart can then be printed and positioned at the entrance of the reception hall, or you can give to someone dependable the task of directing guests to their tables.

Try to seat guests with at least one person they already know. You can seat strangers at the same table, but do your best to ensure that they have common interests or will get along with each other.

Try to have an equal number of men and women at the same table.

Children nine years old and younger should be seated with their parents. You could reserve a table for 10- to 17-year-olds, but be sure that it is situated toward the back of the room, as younger guests usually pay less attention to the speeches and prefer talking among themselves.

Creating a successful seating chart requires time and thought.

A stay in South Africa can be envisaged at almost any time of the year.

ates between May and October are generally the most popular for couples wishing to get married. These months promise better chances of a beautiful, sunny afternoon. That is ever more important when planning an outdoor wedding, where Mother Nature always brings a touch of magic, whether it is by the ocean, near a lake, or in a pretty flower garden.

The biggest challenge in organizing an outdoor wedding is the unpredictability of the elements. This is why it is so important to have a Plan B in case of bad weather. Because of this, you will not only have to choose the right location, you will also have to coordinate all the necessary logistics in order for your reception to be a success.

Go ahead and choose a site for exchanging

your vows that has special significance for you both. Just bear in mind that your guests won’t want to be packed into a small space, nor will they want to be stranded miles from the nearest bathroom. Remember that a tent for the caterers will be necessary, as is access to electrical outlets for the chefs and the D.J. If you are planning on renting a wedding tent, be sure to calculate the number of square feet required for your guests to be comfortable. Some outdoor establishments also require that the couple purchase a liquor license. If that is the case, don’t wait until the last minute to send in your application. The dress code should be specified on the invitations so that your guests will know what to expect.
