Two former champs remain Aldrich and Leland keep hopes alive for third title in Women’s Two former champions remain in contention for the Women’s Division championship as 2003 and 2008 champ Betsy Aldrich of St. Louis Park and 2007 and 2009 champion Maggie Leland of Alexandria both won their quarterfinal matches.

Emily Kvidera of Ramsey and Amanda Woodhull of Minnetonka picked up wins in the other two matches.

Today’s action will feature Aldrich taking on Woodhull and Augustana teammates Kvidera and Leland facing off.

Tee time is 12:48 p.m. on the first tee.

ALDRICH VS. BECKENDORF 4-3 Aldrich used the front nine to grab an early lead against Heidi Beckendorf of Blaine, then held on through the back nine for a 4-3 victory.

Both golfers posted pars on the opening hole, but Aldrich clipped to 3-up as she won Nos. 2, 3 and 4 with par.

Beckendorf kept pace with Aldrich on the next three holes before the St. Louis Park golfer birdied No. 9 for a 4-up lead at the break.

Another par for the duo

started the back nine, but Aldrich kept her game steady, winning No. 11 by par before she suffered a blip in her game and allowed Beckendorf a par win on 12.

Beckendorf cut the lead to three on a par win at 14 before Aldrich steadied her game, picking up another birdie and ending the match after the 15th hole.

WOODHULL DEF. KNUTSON 5-4 After a shaky start on the first hole of the front nine, Minnetonka’s Amanda Woodhull found her stroke and did not give up another win to Molly Knutson of Edina, winning 5-4.

Starting on No. 4, Woodhull pounded out three straight victories on par, birdie, par. From there the two golfers stayed even, leaving Woodhull with a 2-up advantage at turn.

On the back nine, the Minnetonka golfer picked up three consecutive victories again on par, birdie par for a 5up lead.

As the two contestants played golf evenly through Nos. 13 and 14, it gave Woodhull the match on a fivehole advantage with just four holes remaining.

KVIDERA DEF. CUMMINGS 5-3 The Augustana golfer will get a crack at her teammate

when she plays Maggie Leland in the semis after a 5-3 win over Bridget Cummings.

No card was turned in for this match.

MA. LELAND DEF. MO. LELAND 4-3 The birds were singing for Maggie Leland of Alexandria as she battled her sister, Molly, in the quarterfinals of the Women’s Division, and posted four birdies on her way to a 4-3 win.

Maggie started things off with a bang as she birdied the opening hole to go up by one.

Two holes were halved by the players before Molly took away her sister’s advantage with a par win on No. 4 to even the match.

Maggie picked up a par win on No. 6, dropped in another birdie, this time on No. 7.

The final two holes of the front nine were even, leaving Maggie up by two heading to the back nine.

The 10th hole went to Molly on a par, cutting the lead down to one, but birdie No. 3 showed up for Maggie on the 11th, putting her back up by two.

Both players bogeyed No. 12, then Maggie’s fourth birdie of the day came on No. 13 to put her up by three.

Maggie pushed her advantage to four as she parred No. 15 for a win, closing out the match.

Constable’s consistency, marathon match highlight Men’s play

CONSTABLE DEF. HAFDAL, 7-6 Constable continues to put away opponents early. His match against John Hafdal of Prior Lake was over after just 12 holes.

After swapping pars on the first hole, the defending champ went on a five-hole tear, winning No. 2 with par and the next four holes with birdies.

Hafdal finally stopped the run with a par win on the 7th hole but Constable came right back with a pair of wins to finish out the front with a 6-up lead.

Constable’s birdie barrage continued on the back, he took Nos. 10 and 11 with birdies and it was lights out on the next hole.

MONTPLAISIR DEF. STRANDEMO, 4-3 Seventeen-year-old Jacob Montplaisir of Gilbert Arizona slipped past another 17-year-old, Thomas Strandemo of Fargo, 4-3.

He had to overcome an early three-hole disadvantage to do it.

Strandemo surged ahead with wins on Nos. 2 (par), 3 (par) and 4 (birdie) before Montplaisir found his rhythm and took Nos. 6 and 7 with birdies.

his game into high gear, winning Nos. 11, 12, 13, 14 and 15 to salt away a 4-3 victory. Birdies on the long par-5s, the 12th and 14th holes, were highlights.

KLEIN DEF. FOWLER, 1-UP Dan Klein of Phoenix, Arizona had his hands full when he took on Austin Fowler of Grand Rapids.

Fowler clicked for three big wins to close out the front nine, taking No. 7 with birdie and the next two with pars. The comeback erased two wins Klein posted – a par on No. 3 and a birdie on No. 4.

Klein hung tough, however, winning Nos. 10 and 11 with par, birdie to go back into the lead.

Both golfers found trouble on No. 14 and Klein ended up taking the hole with a bogey to go 2-up.

Fowler made one more run at it, sinking a birdie on No. 17 but Klein slammed the door shut by matching Fowler’s par on the 18th hole.

VANGSNESS DEF. MONDA, 3-2 Alexandria’s Ben Vangsness never trailed against Tyler Monda of Brainerd.

He won No. 1 and added wins on Nos. 3, 7 and 8 to build a 4-up lead at the turn.

Vangsness took No. 10 to go 5-up but Monda finally struck for his first win of the day on No. 12.

After Vangsness won No. 13, Monda won two more holes, No. 14 and 15, but it was his last hurrah as the match ended on No. 16 with halves.

JOHNSON DEF. GIORGI IN 26 HOLES This one wasn’t over until darkness was descending and the mosquitoes were buzzing.

In what may be the longest Resorters Men’s Division Championship match ever, Luke Johnson of Alexandria defeated medalist Mark Giorgi of Red Wing after 26 grueling holes.

Giorgi had the momentum in the early going, winning four holes on the front nine – Nos. 1, 3 (birdie), 6 and 7 to Johnson’s lone win, a par on No. 5.

Johnson came roaring back on the back nine, stringing together four straight wins to steal the lead. The rally started on No. 12 with an eagle followed by par, birdie, par.

After they both parred Nos. 16 and 17, it was Giorgi’s move to send the match into overtime. He did it with a dramatic birdie.

The extra-hole marathon attracted a growing gallery of onlookers who saw both golfers match each other on six straight holes with par, par, bogey, par, par and birdie.

Maybe there’s a reason Donald Constable has the initials “DC,” as in Defending Champion.

He sure is living up to his name.

The 22-year-old from Deephaven continues to breeze through the Resorters Men’s Division elite, just as he did a year ago.

Today, he’ll go up against Jacob Montplaisir starting from the No. 1 tee at 1:24 p.m.

Plenty of stiff competition remains in the division, including Alexandrians Ben Vangsness and Luke Johnson, who survived a 26-hole marathon yesterday.

And don’t count out former Alexandrian Tyler Whiting (the oldest player remaining at 23), Sam Peterson of Benson, or the 2008 Resorters Junior Division champion Joey Shroyer.

Here’s a look back at yesterday’s action.

On the Minnesota Green No. 7, Giorgi’s drive sailed a little long and to the right, he chipped to within 15 feet and had to settle for a tap-in bogey.

Johnson clubbed his drive 20 feet from the cup and two-putted to make par and end a very long day.

It was the longest match either golfer had ever played. In fact, Johnson, 20, has never played extra holes in a match before. There’s no doubt he’ll remember this first one for a long time.

S. PETERSON DEF. HEINEN, 19-HOLES Benson’s Sam Peterson watched a late lead slip away before stepping up on the first playoff hole to secure a 19-hole victory over Alec Heinen of Edmond, Oklahoma.

Heinen used a charge over the final three holes to erase a 2-hole deficit. His par wins on Nos. 16 and 18 forced a playoff, but Peterson bounced back from those two bogeys on 16 and 18 with a birdie on the first playoff hole that sealed the deal.

Neither player could gain much separation throughout the match. The two were even heading into the back after halving the final seven holes on the front.

Peterson did just enough early on the back to help himself out. He jumped out to a 2-up lead after the 12th when he eagled the par-5 after taking the 10th with a par. Heinen bounced back with a par win of his own on 13 before Peterson took 15 to increase his lead back to two.

WHITING DEF. KLEIN, 2-1 Eagan’s Tyler Whiting never trailed in this one as he used birdie wins on 2, 5 and 9 to help him build an early lead on the front against Geoff Klein of Mankato.

Whiting led by two at that point but had to bounce back from a double bogey on 10 that got Klein within one. Whiting didn’t slip up again. He shot 1-under the rest of the way, with that birdie on 12 being good enough for a win that moved him back to 2-up.

Both players parred the 13th before Klein got a birdie win of his own on 14 to make it interesting. But again Whiting answered, this time with a par win on the 16th. The two players went on to split the par-3 17th as Whiting held on for the narrow win.

SHROYER DEF. HAFDAL, 4-2 Joey Shroyer got the early break he was looking for to propel him to a 4-2 win over Alexandria’s Jesse Hafdal.

The 18-year-old from Victoria took a 1up lead after birdying the 1st but was in jeopardy of giving it back on the 4th.

Instead, Shroyer chipped in from the grass to the right of the green. His ball had plenty of speed, but it hit the pin square and dropped into the cup for a birdie win.

He never looked back after that.

Shroyer won No. 8 with a par that gave him a 3-up lead heading into the back.

Hafdal took his first hole on the 10th with a birdie but Shroyer got that back with a par win on the 15th. His par on the 16th ended things early as he moved on for a quarterfinal match-up with Whiting.

CHIP SHOTS Echo Press

Constable took a step closer to repeating with a 7-6 victory.

Is Empanger unstoppable?

Defending champ is back in Senior Men’s Final Four Can anyone stop defending champion Jon Empanger?

After sailing through a convincing 7-6 win in the Senior Men’s Division Wednesday, Empanger needed just 15 holes to end his match yesterday against last year’s runner up no less.

Empanger is vying for his eighth Resorters title to go along with his five Executive Division trophies and two Senior Men’s championships.

Three other semifinalists are also looking impressive – Judge Dave Battey, Bill Freeman and Steve Tessmer.

Battey will get the first crack at Empanger when the two tee it up today from No. 1 at 12:24 p.m.

The winner will take on the victor of the Freeman/Tessmer bat-

tle for all the marbles this Saturday.

EMPANGER DEF. MATTSON, 4-3 In a rematch from last year’s division final, the 56-year-old Empanger of Chaska again prevailed over Greg Mattson of Becker.

Last year’s finale went 18 holes. This time around, Empanger needed 15 holes to get the victory.

An early lead helped.

Empanger won No. 1 with birdie and notched two more birdies on Nos. 4 and 5 to go 3-up.

Mattson trimmed the lead to two with a birdie of his own on No. 6 but the defending champ was a birdie machine, cranking out two more on Nos. 7 and 8 to go 4-up.

On the back nine, they both swapped pars on the first two holes before Empanger decided to go one better than a birdie by knocking in an eagle on the par-5 12th that put him 5-up.

Mattson tried to fight back, making a

birdie on No. 14 but he could only match Empanger’s par on the 15th hole, giving the 2010 champ a 4-3 win.

Mattson had nothing to hang his head about.

BATTEY DEF. FERIANCEK, 3-2 In a battle between Alexandrians, Judge Dave Battey edged Rick Feriancek, 3-2.

Feriancek jumped out to an early lead, winning Nos. 2 and 3 with pars.

Battey staged a quick comeback, winning the next three holes with par, par, birdie to steal the lead.

The match then settled into stalemate mode. They halved the next six holes.

Finally, on the 13th hole, Battey put the pressure on, making par to take the hole and pad his lead to two.

He added another big win on No. 14 with a birdie and matched Feriancek’s pars on the next two holes to win it.

FREEMAN DEF. BLOEDORN, 3-1 Bill Freeman racked up five straight wins on the front nine to put Brian Bloedorn in a hole he couldn’t dig out of.

Freeman’s streak on Nos. 3-7 included four pars and one birdie (the 5th hole).

Bloedorn, meanwhile, just couldn’t get into a rhythm. He didn’t win his first hole until No. 10, a par, which closed the gap to four.

They swapped pars on the next three holes before Bloedorn broke through with a par win on the long 14th hole that put him 3-down.

After settling for bogeys on No. 15, Bloedorn showed some signs of life by taking the 16th hole with par.

Freeman dashed any hopes of a comeback, however, after he birdied No. 17 to claim a 3-1 victory.

Cliff wins battle of the champs

MASTERS’ CHAMPIONSHIP UPPER BRACKET

The Mankato golfer defeated six-time champion Ron Clayton, while Eric Hanson, Bob Wernick and Pat Vincelli also reached the semifinals Two decorated champions met up in the Masters Division in a match that lived up to the billing yesterday as George Cliff needed every last hole to overcome perennial Masters champion Ron Clayton.

Cliff, a four-time Seniors champion from Mankato, showed off some perseverance in pulling off the upset. He punched his ticket to the semifinals by overcoming an early 3-hole deficit against the six-time Masters champ.

Erik Hanson, Bob Wernick and Pat Vincelli will join him in the semis when the Masters tee off from the first tee at 12:12 this afternoon.

Here’s how they got there: HANSON DEF. PETERSON, 5-4 Erik Hanson of Stowe, Vermont took advantage of an off day from Jerry Peterson to run away with a 5-4 win.

Peterson could not get much of anything going early as he shot 8-over on the front. Hanson used that to his advantage to build a 4-hole lead before heading into the turn.

Things did not go much better for Peterson when they got there. The Benson native earned a par win on 11 but bogeys over the next three holes opened the door for Hanson. He was happy to take advantage of it with par wins on Nos. 12 and 14 that ended things early.

WERNICK DEF. EIDSVOLD, 2-1 Bob Wernick knows how to end things in style.

The Rancho Mirage, California native closed out his 2-1 win over Alexandria’s Tom Eidsvold with

back-to-back birdies on Nos. 16 and 17.

It was a gutsy finish for Wernick after losing an early 3-hole lead. Birdie wins on 2 and 7 and a par win on the 3rd gave him that early cushion.

Eidsvold slowly chipped away after that. A birdie at 8 gave him his first hole before a par on the 13th pulled him to within one. He quickly answered that with a birdie win on 15 to pull even.

Eidsvold could only watch as Wernick took the match from him on the next two holes.

Wernick’s two birdies on the three par-3s proved to be vital in his bid to fight another day.

Wernick is searching for his fourth Resorters title this year and first in the Masters Division.

He took the Executive Division in 1994 and the Senior Division in 1999 and 2003.

CLIFF DEF. CLAYTON, 1-UP It would have been easy for Cliff to chalk this one up as a loss after five holes on Thursday.

Down three holes and bogeying three of his first five was not the start he wanted against a competitor who leaves little room for error.

But what stands out from this match is how he played from that point on. Cliff was brilliant down the stretch, shooting 4-under over his final 13 holes with birdies on Nos. 6, 9, 10 and 11.

Even that almost wasn’t enough against Clayton. Cliff had to bide his time as the two halved five straight holes on the back before his opponent finally opened the door.

Cliff took advantage of a par win on 16 to pull even. He did the same on 17 to take his first lead

John and Stefan will face each other in today’s quarterfinal action Jon Freeman

The Freeman brothers lived to fight another day in the Executive Men’s Division as the past two champions eked out wins during Thursday’s second round action.

Their reward? A match-up with each other in the quarterfinals. Stefan, the 2009 champion from St. Cloud, and Jon, the defending champ from Chanhassen, will deter mine which one will play for a shot at the finals and which one’s tournament will be over when the Executive Men tee off from the No. 1 tee at 1 p.m.this afternoon.

pushed to the limit but found a way to get the job done in the end.

Chaska’s Jeff Johnson proved a worthy opponent, but it is all about surviving and advancing at this stage.

That is exactly what Freeman did after ending things in 17 holes.

S. FREEMAN DEF. BUTINA, 1-UP Stefan’s win did not come any easier as he had to take the final two holes to turn aside John Butina of Cottage Grove.

Butina was 1-up after a birdie win on 16 helped him overcome a rough stretch on the back where he played 5over on Nos. 13, 14 and 15. That allowed Freeman to pull even as he took a bogey win on 13

and a par win on the 15th.

He then provided more magic in the final two holes. Freeman parred 17 to break even.

He then ended it in style, birdying the 18th to end a match that was back-and-forth for most of the day.

HEIMSNESS DEF. PASSOLT, 5-4 Woodbury’s Eric Heimsness continued his solid week by knocking out Pete Passolt of Orono, the 1989 Men’s Division champion, in a 5-4 match.

Heimsness is the lowest seed left in the bracket at No. 20 as he tries to punch a ticket to the semifinals when he plays Burnsville’s Chad Johnson today.

C. JOHNSON DEF. GREG BOWEN, 4-3 The fifth-seeded Johnson got to the quarters by playing another steady round in his 4-3 win over Alexandria’s Greg Bowen.

Bowen led 1-up after a birdie win on the 1st, but Johnson never trailed again after four holes. He took Nos. 3 and 4 with a par and a bogey before the two halved the next five holes heading into the turn.

Johnson began to pull away on the back.

He birdied No. 10 and parred the 11th to take a 3-up lead. Bowen got one back on the 12th but a birdie win on 13 and a par win on the 15th helped Johnson

PETERSON DEF. DILLEY, 6-4 Second-seeded Tim Peterson of Lino Lakes is playing like the qualifying medalist through the first couple rounds of match play.

Peterson showed his ability to bounce back from a rough start to coast to a 6-4 win over Alexandria’s Dave Dilley on Thursday.

Dilley used par wins on Nos. 2 and 4 to go 1-up before Peterson began to make his move. He got back in it with a birdie win on 5 and wins on 6 and 8 to take a 2-up lead into the back.

He immediately added to that lead once they got there. Peterson took Nos. 10 and 11 with pars. A par win on the

13th gave him a solid cushion before he ended things in fashion with an eagle on the par-5 14th.

LYCZEWSKI DEF. WAGNER, 1-UP Mark Lyczewski earned the right to play Peterson with a 1-up win over Todd Wagner of Austin, Texas.

This one was backand-forth from the beginning. Lyczewski took a 2-up lead with three straight par wins on Nos. 3-5. Wagner answered back in style, eagling No. 6 and birdying the 8th to even the match.

Lyczewski rebounded from that with a birdie win of his own to take a 1-up lead into the back.

He built himself a big enough cushion once they got there. After Wagner birdied No. 10 to even things again, Lyczewski responded with three straight par wins. Wagner tried to battle back with backto-back wins on 16 and 17, but both players parred the 18th to give Lyczewski the win.

HAUGEN DEF. ABRAHAMSON, 1-UP The 1999 champion was knocked from contention yesterday as Alexandria’s Chris Haugen edged Wayzata’s Tom Abrahamson 1-up.

SCHOMER DEF. MARLOW, 5-4 St. Cloud’s Darryl Schomer used a late surge on the front to build a lead that he would never relinquish in a 5-4 win over Chad Marlow of Wichita, Kansas.

Schomer never trailed in this one. The two were tied after six holes before he went par, birdie, par to take a 3-up lead. He added to that on the back with a birdie win on 10. A par win on the 13th then proved to be enough as the two halved the 14th to end the match early.

In golf, rules just weren’t made to be broken From Golf section in Star Tribune, 1998 Originally from Los Angeles Daily News

Every games has and needs its rules.

In golf, however, it appears the regulation makers get paid for piece work.

Between the U.S. Golf Association’s “Official Rules of Golf ” and its “Decisions on the Rules of Golf ” there are some 794 pages of principles, maxims, orders and decrees.

And the books get bigger every year.

Let’s play a round and see if we can find any loopholes on the links.

Betcha we don’t.

First of all, you can put away that compass. Rule 14-3 of the Official Rules prohibits use of artificial devices and unusual equipment that might assist one’s play. Those field glasses are OK, so long as they don’t have a range-finder attachment.

OK, hit the ball. Uh-oh, you’re in the rough. And it looks like your ball rolled into a bird’s nest. So what do you do? Do you whack away and leave some poor bird family homeless?

Lucky for you – and the bird – the rules have this one covered. Rule 1-4, decision 9 allows you to take a drop at the closest point not nearer the hole and play from there.

Nature is also our friend.

Hey, I think you can reach the green from here. Nice shot. What the hey? You see that? A dog just snatched your ball three feet from the cup and ran off with it. Do the rules cover that?

Of course they do. Rule 19-1 decision 6 says you can play a new ball from the point at which the dog grabbed it. If your shot had hit the dog and bounced away, you’d have to play it as it lies.

All right, putt out. Too bad, left it on the lip.

But don’t get any ideas of aiding the ball into the hole.

Rule 1-2 decision 4 prohibits a player from jumping up and down near the hole in an effort to influence the ball. If the ball falls, it’s a onestroke penalty and you have to put the ball back where it was.

Knock it in and let’s play No. 2. And get a grip.

OK, a short par 3. Let’s see you drop it right on the flag.

Way to go.

What the ...? You put the ball two feet from the stick, but the stick wasn’t in the hole. Some knucklehead apparently took it and jammed it into the turf on the other side of the green.

What a cruel trick.

No way this situation is covered in the rules, right?

Wrong. The rule book

notes the situation but offers no relief. According to rule 1-4, decision 3, “...the players must accept the resultant advantage or disadvantage.”

Go ahead and putt out.

Meet you on the third tee.

Geez, it’s getting windy.

OK, long par 5. Give me those field glasses and let’s see what you’ve got.

Nice. Right down the middle and . . . criminy. Your ball rolled into a plastic baggy.

Now the wind’s caught the bag and it’s blowing bag and ball down the fairway. Whoa, I think you got another 75 yards in the deal.

Geez, what do the rules say about that? What do you mean, you don’t care. We’re playing by the book here.

Uh-oh. “In this case, the bag, not the wind, caused the ball to move. Accordingly, under rules 18-1 and 24-1b, the player must drop the ball directly at the place where it originally lay in the bag.”

Too bad.

Give me those glasses again and awe me with an iron shot. Oh no. You’re in the sand.

Plastic bags, discarded fruit – is this a golf course or a landfill?

Unfortunately, my friend, this is a case in which the half-eaten-pear-in-the-sandtrap rule – No. 23-3 – applies.

It’s pretty much the same thing as the dead-land-crabin-the-sand-trap rule, No. 236: You can’t move the obstacle or the ball.

Man these books really cover all the bases.

Well, blast on out of here and let’s get going. Yikes.

Clear across the fairway and into the rough. You ever consider another hobby? Just asking.

What’s that? Your ball is lying up against a coiled rattlesnake? Is it dead or alive – it makes a difference.

Extremely alive, extremely angry and extremely venomous, eh.

Yes, common sense would dictate that we get the heck out of here. But we don’t need common sense: We’ve got the USGA’s “Decisions on the Rules of Golf,” which says you can drop a ball at the nearest safe place and

play on. Oh, come on. You can get closer than that. He can’t jump 30 feet.

Holy moly, now you’re in the sand on the left side of the green. And, for the love of Pete, it looks like kids have been playing in here.

There’s a sand castle the size of Buckingham Palace between your ball and the green.

Tough luck, pal.

According to Rule 33-8/9, you’ve got to play it.

Oh well, blast it over.

Nice. Looks like you’ve got about a 20-foot putt. Looks good, oh it’s going to just miss. Hey, you can’t throw your putter at a moving ball.

Good thing you missed. If you had made contact, it would have been a breach of Rule 1-2/4.5 and would have cost you a stroke. Hey, you’re not allowed to throw your 9iron, either.

And there is certainly a rule against that kind of language.

Hmmmm. Well, maybe not.

Maybe we’ve found our loophole.

CHIP SHOTS ALBATROSS: A score of three under par for a single hole. Also called a double eagle.

BANANA BALL: A bad slice, so called because the flight of the ball resembles the shape of a banana.

BARBER: A player who talks to the point of annoyance.

BISQUE: A handicap stroke given to one opponent that may be used on any hole.

COLLAR: Edge of a sand hazard.

CROSS-BUNKER: A narrow bunker that crosses a hole at a right angle to the player’s line of flight to the green.

DORMIE: A situation in match play when a player or a side is ahead by the amount of holes remaining to be played. In such a case, the trailing player or side must win the remaining holes to come out even.

EAGLE: A score of two under par for a single hole.

FOOZLE: A bad shot. Also called a dub.

FRIED EGG: A ball that is buried in sand. Also called a

plugged lie.

FROG HAIR: The short grass that borders the putting green.

GIMMEE: Baby talk for “give me,” a putt of two feet or less that a friendly opponent declares does not have to be holed out.

GOBBLE: A putt that unexpectedly lands in the hole.

IN THE LEATHER: A putt closer to the hole than the distance between a putter’s head and its grip. In friendly matches, an opponent may declare such a putt a gimmee.

MULLIGAN: A second shot off the tee, often permitted once in a casual round. Also known as a Shapiro.

POT BUNKER: A small, deep sand trap.

QUAIL HIGH: A long shot that has a low trajectory.

RABBIT: A topped shot that bounces erratically. Also called a scooter.

RAINMAKER: A ball hit underneath that goes straight up into the air.
