Defending Junior s Lincoln Johnson 10-12 champ advances

Just puttin’ along at the Resorters Gustafson, Heimsness grab top spots in annual putting contest It was a battle of youth versus experience on Wednesday night as the 2011 Resorters putting contest came down to 18year-old Tanner Gustafson and 47-yearold Eric Heimsness. In the end, youth won out. Gustafson and Heimsness matched each other putt for putt through the first seven holes of the championship before Gustafson took the lead on the 8th. Heimsness had a little too much speed on a pin location that caused many participants to fly past the hole over the course of the night. That was exactly what happened to Heimsness as the Woodbury native had to settle for a three after missing his putt back

up the slope. Gustafson sank his second putt to take a 1up lead into the 9th. He then calmly drained a three-footer on the last hole to secure the win. The Carlos native earned his opportunity to pick up the win by matching aces with Heimsness on the 1st and 5th holes. Both players will have some money to spend at the AGC pro shop for their efforts. Gustafson went home with a $150 gift certificate, while Heimsness had $100 to spend. The other semifinalists, Scott Stockmoe of Alexandria and Thomas Strandemo of Fargo, got $75 gift certificates, while the four others who reached the quarterfinals earned $50.

The putting contest is all fun and games at the Resorters’ Tournament, but if you make it to the semifinals, you might as well do everything to win it. That is exactly what Fargo’s Thomas Strandemo (above) seemed to have in mind last night as he crouched down to line up his putt in his final four match against Tanner Gustafson of Carlos. Gustafson had his putting stroke going as he took down Strandemo before upending Eric Heimsness in the championship. Heimsness congratulated Gustafson (right) after he drained about a three-footer for the win on the ninth hole.
