WEDDING GOWN styles for 2019

With all the information available to brides from magazines and social media, it’s easy to be overwhelmed when it comes to making all those decisions for your big day.

One of those will be selecting your gown. First and foremost – this is a very personal decision, so you need to look at styles that are uniquely you. Here are a few of the most popular trends on the runways for 2019 to give you some ideas.

royally inclined

The wedding of Megan Markle inspired gowns with boat neck and off-the-shoulder necklines, as well as clean and minimal silhouettes.

Along with those clean lines, the royal wedding has also returned tiaras to the line-up.

big bows

Although they have always been popular, this year oversized, structured bows that turn into trains; loops to tie straps and metal versions.

romantic sleeves

Billowy fabrics with a Victorian inspiration are high on bridal wish lists.

Nothing like your mother’s gown of the 80s, these sleeves also have exaggerated trims; modular, layered panels and accentuated shoulders in lengths from cap sleeves to full-length.

jumpsuits/bridal minis

Yes, jumpsuits. They’re featured in styles for the wedding after-party, including flowy and bohemian, all-over lace, cigarette pants and peplum overlays. Jumpsuits are also perfect for reheasal dinners or for casual weddings.

Another after-party look, minis in metallics with feather trims and vibrant color pops are what’s hot for that second wedding dress.

geometric designs

Some designs will see the floral lace and sweetheart necklines replaced by geometric patterns and shapes, whether it be in the straight lines of the cut to the details of the fabric, cutouts and trim.

jewel tones

Even though pastels are still popular, 2019 will see a rise in jewel tones in embroideries and metallic accents, as well as ombré skirts.

shrugs

Perfect, especially for the fall and winter seasons, shrugs and wraps are a perfect accessory for your wedding gown.

glitter

Dresses boasting sparkle can come in any design. Over-the-top beading, reflective confetti or just sparkly fabric all are part of this season’s line-up.

WEDDING DRESS, white isn’t your only option If, at a time in the past, the boldest move you could make when it came to the color of your wedding dress was to pick off-white instead of a pristine snowy shade, that’s simply no longer the case. Like most rules, the one that dictates the color of your wedding dress is meant to be broken—and more and more brides are taking the plunge. Read on for some inspiration.

Did you know that the white wedding dress has only been popular in North America since the nineteenth century?

Before then, it was customary for the bride to wear—you guessed it—a colorful dress!

Today, the brightly colored dress is making a comeback and designers from around the world are reinventing this vintage trend. While shopping for a non-white wedding dress

might have been a tricky task a few decades ago, boutiques are now stocked with gowns in every color of the rainbow – and then some. Whether you’re in the market for an electric pink ball gown or an emerald green A-line, your local bridal boutique is sure to deliver the goods.

This year, light, airy fabrics are everywhere. Stay clear of thick, compact materials, which weigh down the silhouette. Embroidered feathers are a great way to add an ethereal touch to your gown.

bold black

Black has been making an appearance on runways worldwide.

touches (on hats, sashes or gloves, for instance), some are daring to unveil all-black dresses.

Midriffs were on show again on runways as the crop top made a return. Designs included clean, polished crop tops and matching skirts.

Transparency and lace are popular this season, as are illusion neck-

Embrace a

classic look

Classic is the name of the game for 2019.

This year, brides will will opt for a more natural look, one that highlights their best features with a bold accent, such as wine colored lips and faux lashes.

rosy hues

Hues from burgundy to soft pink, the rosy colors are perfect for this year’s bride and complement every face. Try using a soft color on cheekbones, but add in classic ruby red lips.

dewy skin

Brides will be avoiding matte foundation on their special day and instead will be opting for more luminous skin and an all-over glow.

bronze eyeshadow

Bronzed lids are taking the place of more daring colors when selecting eyeshadow. The range of colors to pick from will amaze you – from metallic to matte brown, you can create a smoky eye in a more simplified style. This eye color looks good on all faces.

Whether you decide on a bold look with a thick line or a thinner, more subtle look, winged eyeliner is this year’s special touch for your eyes.

If you’re uncertain about using liquid liner, you can substitute strong sweeps of charcoal eyeshadow.

Bold brows have been in style for a few years and still looks good today. Striking shaped brows will give your face an unforgettable look.

bandeau hairpieces/ headbands

Accessorizing hair with bandeaus and headbands that glitter give the bride a Meghan Markle-inspired look. Not as strong a statement as a tiara, but still brings to mind a regal feel.

Towering headpieces, large hats and oversized flowers were seen on runways as hair accessories, making a bold statement.

relaxed hair

Softly gathered hair or half-upsweeps with a few loosely hanging tendrils give brides a relaxed, nocare look. Intentionally messy hairstyles give you an effortless look.

bangs/ center parts

Bangs give a bold, chic look and can be styled in many ways, from a blunt, short cut to long and wispy.

Center parts had a strong showing during the Fall 2019 Bridal Fashion Week. The style can be sleek and pulled back or with more volume and less structured.

waves/low bun

Big waves and curls will give you a more glamorous look for your wedding, while the low bun paired with a statement necklace will show off the neckline of your gown.

touch-up kit To make sure your makeup stays in perfect style, prepare a touch-up kit to keep you looking fresh. Include a handkerchief, lipstick, blotting tissues and a compact powder.

ll eyes are on the bride and groom on their wedding day. Feeling beautiful and dapper can boost a couple’s confidence and ensure they look back on their wedding photographs and videos with pride.

Certain beauty basics and makeup and hair strategies can help any bride look spectacular on her wedding day. The following are some do’s and don’ts of wedding day beauty preparations.

DO employ the services of a professional hairstylist and makeup artist. Professionals have the experience and tools of the trade to help you to look your best.

From contouring to make your face seem slimmer to enlarging the appearance of small eyes, some tricks of the trade are best left to the pros.

DON’T forget to schedule a trial run. Make this appointment several months before the wedding day so you have ample time to work with your stylists and experiment with colors and hair arrangements to fit your personality and the style of your gown. Take plenty of pictures and notes so you will remember what needs to be on hand for the wedding day.

DO allot enough time for the wedding day beauty appointment. If you will be going to a salon, block out two or more slots instead of one. This way the stylist does not overbook and will not feel rushed. Many brides opt to have stylists come to their homes. There may be an extra charge for this service, but it may be well worth the cost.

DON’T wear too much under-eye concealer or one that is too light of a shade. This can draw more attention to problem areas than remedy them.

DO wear a little extra makeup than you are accustomed to wearing because it will show up better in photos. However, do not wear so much that you look clownish. A makeup artist can help you achieve the right balance.

DON’T make any drastic changes to your appearance right before the wedding. This includes changing your hair color or texture, extreme tanning, using colored contact lenses, or chopping off all of your hair. It’s better to wait until after the wedding to change your style.

DO bring a veil, headpiece, hair extensions, and any other accessories to your hair consult. This enables the stylist to practice working with these items.

DON’T tweeze or wax brows too close to the start of the ceremony. Redness and swelling are common side effects of tweezing and waxing, and they can be difficult to mask with makeup. Instead, take care of hair removal a day or two prior to the wedding.

DO exfoliate your skin prior to the wedding. This doesn’t necessarily mean you should endure a harsh fruit acid peel or another procedure. You can exfoliate with a gentle washing of your skin with a nubby washcloth to remove any dryness and errant flakes.

Moisturize well to ensure a smooth palette for makeup application.

DON’T have bridesmaids wear makeup that is bolder than yours, especially red lips. No one should upstage the bride.

DO experiment with any products you haven’t used before to test for allergic reactions and see how well they wear.

DON’T forget that men need a little help as well. Exfoliation and moisturization can help dry skin.

Guys should use a new razor and plenty of cream before shaving to avoid irritation. A dusting of finishing powder can banish shiny noses and foreheads for photo-ready faces.

Chances are more photographs will be taken of a newlywed couple than at any other moment in their lives. Certain beauty do’s and don’ts should be followed so couples put their best faces forward.

create your own wedding website Wedding invitations traditionally include a few different cards and a whole lot of information. If you’re planning a wedding and want to cut down on the amount of paper you send, a wedding website is the perfect way to communicate with your guests.

What needs to be on the invitation. All basic information about your wedding needs to be on the invitation.

This includes the full names of the bride and groom to be, the location of the wedding and the date and time it’ll take place. Traditionally, your parent’s names would also be included, but if you’re paying for your own wedding, you can take or leave this tradition. Include the URL to your wedding website so people know how to access it.

RSVP cards. Your guests need a way to tell you whether or not they can make it to your wedding. You can include this with your 16 I Do! Bridal Guide 2019

invitation, or have people respond on your website. Both options are acceptable, but keep in mind that some of your older guests may not understand the lack of a response card.

What to put on your wedding website. Use the website to let your guests know about accommodations, the gift registry and directions to the venue. You can also include some photos of the two of you, introduce guests to your wedding party or add local fun facts for people from out of town.

WEDDING INVITATION ESSENTIALS Here’s a list of things you’ll need to include in your wedding invitations: The save-the-date card This optional piece to the invitation should be sent out 6-8 months before the event. It’s especially important for destination or multi-day weddings and include the following: The names of the bride and groom The date of the event The city in which the wedding will take place The invitation card The invitations should be sent out 6-8 weeks before the wedding and should contain: The date and time of the wedding The location and schedule of the reception Driving instructions The wedding’s theme, if applicable An indication of whether or not children are welcome Contact info (email address, website, phone number) The RSVP card It’s crucial to include an RSVP card with your wedding invitations so that invitees can confirm whether or not they’re able to attend the event as well as indicate if someone will be accompanying them. Be sure to provide a self-addressed stamped envelope.

Brides have turned to Pinterest and Instagram for inspiration or everything from invitations, menus and custom monograms to cakes, allowing couples to customize their wedding brand.

Welcome baskets or gift boxes for guests, particularly for destination weddings or events where the majority of guests had to travel far, are being personalized with itineraries, maps, local treats and small gifts tailored to fit with the couples’ brand.

A wedding bouquet is a statement of your style and unique to you. If you’re planning your wedding for 2019, check out the trends in wedding flowers this year.

big and bold

Bright, bold-colored flowers with a deep tone paired with lush greenery is one of the styles for 2019 as brides select layers of flowers. Orchids in trailing oversized bouquets with intense textures and unusual shapes will stand out.

tradition still in style

Some brides are electing to step away from the wild style of arrangements, instead turning back to more traditional bouquets with delicate ribbons and cascading greenery to accentuate traditional blooms.

Playing off boho bouquets that are wild and eclectic, this year’s version is somewhat tamer. Still filled with overflowing greenery and wildflowers, these bouquets will be slightly smaller and more controlled.

magnolias

A magnolia-only bouquet may be simple, but their big blooms and large leaves are not short on visual impact.

succulents

Found in colors from light or dark green, blue and even purple, succulents are a stunning addition to your bouquet. They also won’t leave petals in your wake as the evening progresses.

Looking for a bouquet that’s a little more rustic chic? Try adding in stems of cotton to ensure your bouquet stands out no matter what the season.

A bouquet of all greenery might fill the bill if you are searching for that untamed look. Select your favorite foliage, vines and stems to combine.

The perfect bouquet is one that highlights your attire without stealing the spotlight.

Try a round style if you’re on the petite side, keeping it simple, delicate and short.

Look at cascading styles if you’re a tall, thin bride. The long stems will highlight your waist.

White is good if your dress is colorful, but not great for white or offwhite.

To ensure you capture the event with beautiful photographs you’ll appreciate for a lifetime, take a look at these inspiring wedding photography trends: Reportage/documentary. Couples are leaning toward more sociable and informal ways to celebrate their weddings, allowing them to focus on their guests rather than details. This photography reflects that style as these photos have a more candid and natural look than traditional shots. While your photographer will likely still cue you for some pictures, they’ll be using smaller, less obtrusive cameras to capture the little details, such as the emotions on faces, from your wedding ceremony and reception.

Second shooters. A second photographer is becoming more common and allows for photos of both the groom and groomsmen, as well as the bride and bridesmaids to be photographed at the same time.

Drone photography. If your wedding is taking place in a beautiful outdoor location, a drone can create awe-inspiring photos that are impossible to get from the ground. Since photography drones are basically miniature helicopters with cameras attached to them, be sure to hire an experienced and licensed operator to avoid disaster.

Eleven steps to planning

the perfect wedding Every couple wants their wedding to be absolutely flawless. Achieving perfection, however, requires quite a bit of organizing. Here are a few things to remember when planning your big day.

4. Send out invitations. The earlier you send out your save-the-date cards and invitations, the better. Be sure to ask invitees to RSVP. This is also a good time to designate bridesmaids and groomsmen.

9. Go to the jeweler’s. Choose your wedding bands wisely – after all, you’ll be wearing them for the rest of your life!

10. Choose the menu. Is your goal to please as many people as possible or to step off the beaten path? Do you need to plan vegetarian options or kid-friendly snacks?

Determine what type of meal will be served at your wedding, and don’t forget drinks and desserts.

11. Immortalize the day. Photobooths and disposable cameras are great for capturing candid memories, but you’ll probably want to have a professional wedding photographer on location as well.
