any people suffer from the occasional bout of insomnia.

However, if this happens to you more often than you’d like, making a few tweaks to your bedroom may be the solution. Here’s what you can do.

GET THE RIGHT BED Resting on a comfortable mattress makes it easier to fall and stay asleep every night. Choosing the right one, however, can be tricky.

The best thing to do is find a store with a good return policy so you can sleep on the mattress for at least a month before you decide if it’s a good fit.

Your bedding can also make a difference. Choose soft linens made of natural materials and comfortable pillows.

MAKE IT A RELAXING SPACE Decorate your bedroom with soothing colors, round shapes, soft textures and cozy or airy fabrics.

Many sleep experts also recommend keeping your bedroom clutter-free and clean. A disorganized space can stress you out, while a dusty and dirty room can aggravate allergies and make it harder to sleep.

Also, it’s a good idea to install blackout curtains to make the room as dark as possible when it’s time to sleep.

It may be tempting to keep a television in your bedroom, but the light from the screen can trick your body into thinking it’s not tired. The same goes for your smartphone and even digital clocks.

For a restful sleep, keep your room free of light-emitting technology. If you need to unwind before bed, read a book or write in a journal instead.

One last tip: consider lowering the thermostat. Cool rooms help you fall asleep quicker and encourage deeper slumber.

Paint your white trim black to make a

WHY DO IT Your black trim will contrast whatever color is on the walls and lend the space a unique look. Ordinarily plain rooms become defined, audacious and more exciting.

How to make a windowless room seem brighter Whether it’s a powder room, a basement or an office, a room with no windows can be dark and hard to decorate. Here are a few tips to help you brighten your windowless room.

ways to make your laundry room more efficient

Your laundry room may not be the most glamorous part of your home, but it’s certainly a space that gets regular use. Here are five things you need to make your laundry room more efficient.

A FOLDING SURFACE. A long counter that provides you with enough room to fold your clothes as soon as they come out of the dryer is ideal. Consider building the counter over your washer and dryer to save space.

A SORTING STATION. Instead of heaping piles of clothes on the floor, create a designated space for white, bright, dark and delicate clothes. This can involve placing laundry baskets on a shelf or even installing slideout laundry drawers.

A SUPPLY SHELF. Keep laundry supplies handy on a shelf near the washing machine. Store laundry detergent, stain remover and dryer sheets alongside a receptacle to hold things left behind in pockets.

However, with the right tools and a little knowhow, it’s a task that almost anybody can complete.

Here’s everything you need to know about removing old wallpaper using either water, solvents or steam.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED No matter which method you use to remove your wallpaper, you’ll need a few tools. These include: •A wallpaper scorer to perforate the paper and allow the solvent, water or steam through.

•A scraper to separate the wallpaper from the wall.

•A spray bottle to apply solvents and water.

•A steamer, which can be rented or purchased. You can also use a clothes steamer.

No matter what method you use, you’re bound to be left with a few stubborn patches that won’t come off. Using solvent, scrub any remaining bits of glue or backing from the wall.

Once it’s dry, prepare it for a fresh coat of paint or new wallpaper.

Signs your battery needs to be

Ever dealt with a dead car battery in the middle of winter? Not much fun, is it? Drivers are far better off ensuring that their battery is in good shape before the thermometer dips. But how can you tell if your battery needs to be replaced? Here’s what to look out for.

INDICATORS OF AGE Car batteries typically last four to six years. One indication that yours is on its last legs is that the interior lights and/or headlights have gotten dimmer.

Another good clue is that your vehicle doesn’t jump to life when you turn your key in the ignition: instead, your start up is slow, weak or inconsistent.

If you’re experiencing these problems and your battery is old, it’s a good idea to get it checked by a licensed technician to see if it needs to be replaced. If your battery is still under four years old, it may just need to be recharged.

5 When it comes time to swap out a set of tires, many drivers opt for used ones.

Here are five elements to keep in mind when buying second-hand tires.

1. Size. Make sure that the model and the dimensions of the tires are appropriate for your vehicle. Follow the vehicle manufacturer’s recommendations.

2. Date of manufacture.

Locate the four-digit code on the outside of the tire.

The two first digits are the week of manufacture, and the last two are the year. On average, tires have a six-year lifespan.
